European disease thing is a myth. According to modern research infamous Cocoliztli was probably some native disease, most likely some variant of Salmonella. Other epidemics bring by Europeans were far less severe (excluding Smallpox what was relevant only on early stage). Also despite the myth disease kill indiscriminately. The reason for disproportion in deaths were result of modern medicine and quarantines used by colonists.

3:17 - The animation gives the idea the Bandeirantes departs from all Brazil to the interior, but they always start the trip from S.Paulo, also they are called Paulists at the time, Bandeirantes is a recent term to refer to them.
3:37 - Rio de Janeiro was already called Rio de Janeiro before the arriving of the Frenchs, who gives this name was Americo Vespúcio. Villegagnon tries to found the colony in an island in the Guanabara Bay, but his resistance to go inland because his protestant believes (to avoid the high sexually behavior of Tupinambás from Rio de Janeiro) is also one of the reasons of failure of this colony.

Actually, Brazil did have an indepedence war, in fact, it even had to pay reparations when the war was over, making Brazil broke and in debt to Great Britain who mediated the peace deal as soon as Brazil's independence was realized. It wasn't just at Salvador, where from what I remember there was even a Portuguese army, most of the northern provinces still identified themselves as Portuguese, so they declared to still be part of Portugal, at Uruguay (Cisplatina at that time) there was a Portuguese army that got surrounded there since they were far away from their own forces, Brazil captured at lot of ships at their ports, and the Naval part of the conflict was pretty major, with most Brazillian officers being foreigners since Brazil didn't have a navy before the conflict, the navy was led by a famous Scottish man named Thomas Cochrane, who was essencially a mercenary, even sacking a city in Maranhao, but he was pretty good, and not only was the Portuguese navy expelled from Brazillian shores in 1823, but they reached Portugal after chasing Portuguese ships. I wish I could name my sources, but I'm not at home, it's mostly books, but most of this is in the book ''1822'' by the historian Laurentino Gomes, witch I trust enough.

The Independence of Brazil was signed by the Empress, Maria Leopoldina de Áustria, wife of Dom Pedro I, son of João VI, King of Portugal.
Dom Pedro I just publicized the thing with the "Independence Cry" by the Ipiranga River, since he was more peasant to the people of Brazil at the time. Maria Leopoldina was brilliant, intelligent, full of great ideas, but was badly treated by Dom Pedro I and his court for all of thoses atributes.
Maria Leopoldina died when she was pregnant, mostly by depression caused by the opression of Pedro I.
She is the true Mother and Father of Brazil.

Cambodia and Thailand have a history of military coups, instability between the feudal landlords and the people,not to mention that they were exploited by colonial powers and got their independence much later. By 1914 , I have no doubt that Brazil would already have Universal suffrage (Male and female). Our corruption level would be lower than today's, I think we would be on the level of corruption that Italy has for example or even lower. We would also be an industrialized nation by the interwar period and black people would be much more integrated to society than today. Freedom of Press would be the best of the world. Brazil would also be much more active in international affairs. Standards of living would be as high as Spain and Italy, considering the development of standards of living in the Empire that was gradual

Little note: when signing the treaty of Tordesilhas (the one where Portugal and Spain split the world in half) Portugal already suspected there was something southwest of their homeland (that something ended up being Brazil). The treaty was done so in the Portuguese would have the right to colonize the land they found southwest of Europe if they found any.

Some other things like: most of the rebellions during the 19th century were separatists and the Tordesilhas's treaty is considered to be a cheesy way of Portugal to guarantee a spot on the new world against Spain. Simply because was too convenient there was a land just on the other side of the line.

No joke, ON NEW YEARS EVE I was reading a book on Brazil whilst coming back from a trip and I thought to myself, huh, I hope suibhne makes a Brazil video. Lmao this is great.
Complementing some correcting comments:
1:30 - As far as I know, corn is an important product of North American Indian agriculture, but Brazilian Indians were not, and are still not used to it, (as far as I know!). Their main product was actually cassava, and it is still very used in Brazilian cuisine (like corn in Mexico).
5:04 -
Cafusos: Black + Indian (mentioned instead of pardo/mulato)
Mulatos: White + Black (mentioned instead of cafuso)
Pardos: Same thing as Mulato, but sounds less pejorative, so that's preferable to say (mentioned instead of mestiços)
Caboclos: Indian + White, like the bandeirantes
Mestiços (Portuguese): Mixed race people, not used so much in Brazil nowadays, since most of Brazilian population are mixed race, except for mixes with races that have more recently settled in Brazil, like Japanese.
Mestizos (Spanish) (Don't mess it up with Mestiços!!!): Equivalent to caboclo in Spanish America. (mentioned instead of caboclo).
Mulato não é pejorativo, quem implantou isso foi os movimentos de esquerda. Respeite a história e a honra daquelas pessoas que contribuíram no passado, seu animal.

Some minor corrections and notes:
3:13 : The Bandeirantes were a popular movement, they were not sent, but went in search of spices and gold in their own will, and were more concentrated in the south, in São Paulo.
3:22 : It is good to remember that those Bandeirantes also killed and slaved thousands of natives.
3:36 : I did'nt knew that! It's a minor event nonetheless, a bigger one that's more important is the Dutch Invasion in Pernambuco, that I think would be nice to be mentioned.
5:30 : It was a peaceful independence, Pedro and his father agreed that if a revolution would happen should happen by the hands of them, the portugese. So it was not a patriotic revolution nor a popular one, unlike the american revolution.
5:35 : The most part of civilians were hired by the emperor, for there was a lack of militar force to defend themselves from the portugese that didn't agreed with the new governament.
5:50 : THERE WAS NO SOCIALIST MOVEMENTS IN BRAZIL UNTIL THE XX CENTURY! The delusional revisionists of today can say that, but they were just popular movements that wanted independence.
6:17 : The practice of slavery wasn't endded because imigrants' workforce covered Brazil's needs, but because England were making pressure to end this practice.

The Independence of Brazil was signed by the Empress, Maria Leopoldina de Áustria, wife of Dom Pedro I, son of João VI, King of Portugal.
Dom Pedro I just publicized the thing with the "Independence Cry" by the Ipiranga River, since he was more peasant to the people of Brazil at the time. Maria Leopoldina was brilliant, intelligent, full of great ideas, but was badly treated by Dom Pedro I and his court for all of thoses atributes.
Maria Leopoldina died when she was pregnant, mostly by depression caused by the opression of Pedro I.
She is the true Mother and Father of Brazil.

I congratulate the quality of the video and your efforts, however there is a problem with how you told the history, expecificaly from when Dom Pedro I turned emperor (he was counciled by his dad and fought a rather small war [if compared to the american] against the representatives of Portuguese interest that resulted in Brazil paying a fine and enheriting the debts Portugal owned to the British Crown) to the point in wich the revolutions happen in wich there are several distinct classes and interests in each (although it is quite complex so i kinda get it). Oh, there were two states to succede in the beginning, S. Vincente as you said and also Pernambuco.
I say that because i'm Brazillian and studied my country's history in school, also searching eventually for myself, non the less, the video has great quality and excluding the part i mentioned, didnt seen to have any flaw. Thanks for the great work!!

am pretty sure that it wasn’t like that. Literally most of the population suported the monarchy at that time, as Brazil was on it’s golden age. The reason that the Empire ended was because the military, after the Paraguayan War, felt desprised by the Emperor, Dom Pedro II, setting a military coup in 1889, with no popular support. But in general a great video!!
Who was "most of the population" at that moment? I'm pretty sure former slaves (the de facto majority of the population), had no political knowledge to support or oppose the Monarchy. The elite? They stopped supporting the Monarchy after the abolition of slavery. The military? As you well said, they felt abandoned by the Emperor. So, in that case, who's the majority? This is a myth created by people who think the Monarchy was the best moment in brazilian history. The Monarchy fell because it was already weak. As a matter of fact, the Monarchy was heavily dependent on slavery, and it's fall it's directly related to the abolition.

I am Brazilian and I felt honored with this video so thank you very much, but I felt that some things were missing like in 1888 when slavery was abolished most of the former slaves were illiterate and there was A LOT of prejudice against former slaves who could not find jobs and they practically offered themselves as slaves even at that time, because there were no anti-racist laws at that time and the cisplatin war, that for a while Uruguay was ours and then it belonged to the Spaniards and in the end it became independent, but thank you very much for the homage. 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
