Just keep in mind that "Gojoseon" is supposed to mean "The Chosun that came before Chosun". There is zero information that one or multiple kingdoms even existed during this time, no name (since there are no records), nothing, all we have is pottery and basic artifacts, nothing resembling kingdom administration like writings, coins, or the like. Chinese language is an ideography system that could be read in different dialects, meanwhile Hangul is a phonography system that read Chinese characters in Korean dialect, but Hangul was set as official writing system is because of low literacy. It caused some problem that today Korans can not understand the meaning of hangul characters if hangul not used in sentence.
@@ffakerr8159 Theoretically yes korean should have some problems understanding meaning of a word that’s not in a sentence. And yet one more thing needs to be considered is there is a limited list of words that koreans actually use often in daily curcumstance(like all the other languages), so the chance to spot a korean confused by written words is relatively small.
Well, the accent was different but korea used to use chinese back then. King Sejong made Hangul because chinese was hard to learn and most of the people didn't know it.

I actually lived in the old capital of Gaya, Gimhae, for a year. It has a really interesting history as well. It was kind of like the Switzerland of Korea at the time, maintaining its independence by trading with everyone and staying neutral. It was most famous for its iron, which it traded to the three other kingdoms as well as Japan.
I looked it up, and there are a lot of ruins to see in the city and the scenery is nice. Gaya is one of the countries with low presence in ancient Korean history, so only one drama has been made. But even that drama didn't get good reviews. In addition, it failed to become centralized and eventually became a part of Silla.
It's kinda hot potato, many Koreans fear the consequences of the unification, but almost none of them would want any other country around Korea to take the land either.

Korea has a completely different identity from China. Recently, China has promoted and manipulated Korean culture as its own. This allows them to guess what they want in the future. Some already Chinese say that Korea was part of China. I want people around the world to know through this video that Korea is a different people with a different language, culture, and history from China.
The Korean peninsula is very strategic and vital to the to China. China CANNOT ever defend itself fully from outside invasion lest Korea dissapear from the map. China would never hold themselves from laying claim on Korea.

Love to all Koreans from Slovakia! 🇸🇰❤🇰🇷🇰🇵 I also included North Korea too- because despite having a controversial leader to say at least, I still wish the best for the people there, as most of them are definitely innocent and most importantly, they still live and their lives matter.
According to the Constitution of the Republic of Korea, North Korea is a terrorist organization that has illegally occupied the northern part of the Korean Peninsula. Korea is just ROK!
Went to Osan, went to Seoul. What struck me was, I think it was the end of the day, and the Korean National Anthem started playing. Everyone stopped and stood at attention, so I did too. After it stopped, everyone still stood. Then The Star Spangled Banner started. Goose bumps and eye sweat. Love the Koreans.
Neighboring countries did have some influence to Korea, but Korean nation was actually one of the most independent nation of all time. Before the kingdom of Joseon, most Korean monarchs were called emperors in the record and some countries payed tribute to Korea, the rulers of Joseon mostly seek peace based on Confucian ideology so they tried to stay well with most other countries. When Korea gave tribute to China, China gave a lot more rewards in return, so according to "조선왕조실록" the record of Joseon monarchy, the king sent too much tribute in a year so the Chinese restricted the number of sending tribute. Manchuria and Mongolia also invaded Korea, but again, Korea was nominally a vassal state of them, but they didn't really interfere much on the ruling of the country and that applied to most East Asian countries like Vietnam and Japan when they were invaded by foreign country. In my opinion, this video is actually one of the best video so far about Korean history made by a non-Korean. A lot of other videos about the Korean history have biased Chinese/Japanese and colonial sources where it focuses mostly on foreign invasions of Korea. As seen through that Korean kingdoms mostly lasted more than 5 centuries the country historically was rather peaceful than most of European countries. In fact, Korea has more successful repels of the invasion that is not widely known like the siege of Yodong where Koreans repelled one of the biggest armies in number before ww2. (A Mongol general once said Korea is the country where people resisted the most and fought) But in this video I can see that a lot of research was done to make this video. Lastly, Thank you for making the history of Korea.
The way I see it is, China: We can technically eventually beat Korea but it will be the most pyrrhic victory of all time, so we will have them send tribute and we will just leave them alone Korea: We can work with this
In fact, it was recorded in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty that Shinha said that he would send a tribute to the Ming Dynasty to solve the economic difficulties.

Goguryeo had a strong "dictator" Yeongaesomun, so when he died, his sons had inheritance issues, which split Goguryeo and weakened it. Goguryeo, Silla, and Baekjae are origins of Korea's rich culture such as Kimchi, Hanbok, and Gat. Goguryeo had a heating system called "Ondol", which is only distinctly used in Korean culture. This proves that Korean culture is deep rooted from Goguryeo and other ancient countries :)) Balhae succeeded Goguryeo. Btw thanks for covering Korea

I admire Koreans for rising up again and again after being brought down by foreign forces through their history. The current situation is not fair, it serves others but not Koreans. However I believe a united and free Korea will rise one day again.
But the case that koreans was devided by foreign forces was only nowdays south and north korea. In other case, many korean countries were established seperately
Korea is no stranger to divisions. The peninsula had three warring kingdoms in its early years, then became unified. But got divided again during the cold war.
Amazing video! Keep up the good work! Just small nitpicking at 6:37, I believe it should be "east" instead of "north" (at least according to the name, "dong" in the word "andong" is Chinese for east)
Despite some of the things you mentioned being different from what we learned growing up in Korea, your umbrella theme of 'sphere of influence' couldn't be any more fitting in my opinion. Above all, the amount of interest that people are showing to Korea is quite fascinating. When I was studying in the states, people often asked me whether I was from China or Japan, and when I said I was from Korea, oftentimes they wouldn't know anything about my country. Thank you for taking the time to create and upload this :)
If south korea is not an developed country, what country is developed country lol. South Korea is very rich and also has top 5 military power in the world
In Korea's 5,000-year history, there have been two periods of colonial rule. First, domination by the Mongol Empire, and second, colonial rule by a modern nation called the Japanese Empire. One of the reasons for surviving these two dominations and even after bordering and going to war with a huge group called the Chinese civilization was the unique topography of the Korean Peninsula. there is. The distribution of mountain ranges and ridges on the Korean Peninsula is an extremely difficult obstacle for an invader to dominate. Korea's ancestors built forts along the mountain ranges, held sit-ins, and continued to engage in resistance and guerrilla warfare. Because of the fierce resistance, they were able to preserve their culture by building a nation-state that still maintains its own culture.
2:58 Story of Myth When gojeoson was created, a bear and a tiger asked the king/god dude if they could be humans. the king dude said that he would make the bear and tiger into humans. but there was a catch. they needed to eat garlic in a cave without seeing light for over 100 days. The bear kepted on eating and the tiger ended up giving up. The bear's hardwork had turned her into a beautiful woman. Every boy in the village wanted to marry her. But after finding out that she was a bear, they didnt want to marry her. The woman was upset. The tiger came to her and offered her to come back to the wildlife with the tiger. shd declined. The king dude asked the girl if she wanted to be her wife. she gladly accpeted it. and boom done. now my finger is burning

One of the reasons King Sejong made Hangul
Because the language of Korea is different from that of China.
@Master Mollang it is hard to compare because Latin language system costs more letters than Chinese charactors when express one same meaning sentence

After it stopped, everyone still stood. Then The Star Spangled Banner started. Goose bumps and eye sweat. Love the Koreans.
Korea deserves unification and 1000 years of peace. Special place, Special people.
The way I see it is,
China: We can technically eventually beat Korea but it will be the most pyrrhic victory of all time, so we will have them send tribute and we will just leave them alone
Korea: We can work with this
In fact, it was recorded in the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty that Shinha said that he would send a tribute to the Ming Dynasty to solve the economic difficulties.

God bless the DPRK and long live Comrade Kim Jong-un! 🇨🇺❤🇰🇵 ☭
Omg yesss. I’ve been waiting for you 😩❤️❤️
I just had to nod, when they said, that there is a movement to make Hangul the universal writing system for all the languages in the world. ☺It is so easy, so simple, so beautiful. ❤
Poland of the far East.
Lol
But Poland is too weak for south korea to compare.

Cheonmu(천무)K-MLRS-2 was a weapon made by looking at fire carriages(화차)during the Joseon Dynasty.
Thank you for making an animation about our country's history.

Dude, this is one of the best history content that talks about Korea, great job😂
third famous? Yi Sunshin is the most famous general of Korea
lol you right!!!!
Third I think in historical order, not third in popularity or recognition.
@@jaskey yea but it was sin nonetheless
After living there for almost a year loving the place in a very deep way I can say there are some very open and raw cultural scars on that place.
as a Korean, i can say it's pretty clear.
thanks for clear info for the world
"Finally, an 'ancient history documentary' that makes me feel young again!
Excited for the video. Quick note: "Two thirty three BC" would read as 233BC. Not 2333BC. Might cause confusion.
yes...... As Korean, I"m very surprised at that.😥
I admire Koreans for rising up again and again after being brought down by foreign forces through their history. The current situation is not fair, it serves others but not Koreans.
However I believe a united and free Korea will rise one day again.
But the case that koreans was devided by foreign forces was only nowdays south and north korea.
In other case, many korean countries were established seperately
The history of the Caribbean would be very interesting too.
Now South Korea is one of the richest country in the world and also has the powerful military.
South korea is developing country. GDP per capita is only 31000
Rich? I dunno. Powerful military? Maybe a decent army but nowhere powerful in the air force or navy

2:58 Story of Myth
When gojeoson was created, a bear and a tiger asked the king/god dude if they could be humans. the king dude said that he would make the bear and tiger into humans. but there was a catch. they needed to eat garlic in a cave without seeing light for over 100 days.
Idk why but “king / god dude “ made me laugh 😂😂😂
remind me of some old saying , history is being written by the winners , weak country has no diplomacy ( as in they are not able to determent their own path )
Korean history is truely very fascinating
Yes. If you look at the details, Korea have been enjoyed full sovereignty in both domestic & foreign affairs for thousands of years until 1882. And Korea has never been disappeared from the map until 1910.
my last korean trip was December 2019 the precovid days..i availed a trip where in u can get to visit the border, still saddens me that only walls divides this country... i felt the tension between parties...
