    Little trick for doing this, once the cap is removed. Screw in one of the bolts into the rod. This gives you something to manipulate the upper.

    Dang it! Every time I watch one of your videos I need a new tool! Just ordered the angle gauge.

      Awesome! I bought a Mac tools 3/8 digital torque wrench 🔧 now with torque angle for way too much but hey now I have it even though my pockets $500 lighter. How way autoX in the M2?

    I know this is a older video I still thought I should leave a comment.
    I really enjoyed your video. I was surprised that you were able to take the bearing out from under the crank. I also have a question. Why did you not pull your crank out and change those bearings at the same time? I'm just starting to get into BMWs and I'm learning that there seems to be big issues with the bearings.
    I also liked that you actually followed the directions from ARP. I could not even guess how many times I would be helping a friend out and we would get into an argument on torque range. They want to go by the manual not by the directions that ARP puts in their packaging. I'm also glad to see you applying the lube to the threads.
    Once I started looking for information on BMW motors I noticed that the torque range device. Normally what I have done most of my life is to mark the bolt and mark the finishing point.
    Now I've decided that I'm going to use a device especially putting an engine back together. As I was looking I came across a UA-camr who test tools on his site. It just so happened last week he did torque wrenches and talked about which ones will do degrees. They are not extremely expensive but the tool you are using is what the UA-camr used to confirm the degree was right or wrong. After seeing that I figured those little devices could be what I'm looking for. If it comes down to me doing too much of that then I will probably just buy one of the torque wrenches that has that feature built in.
    I really enjoyed your video I always make sure to give someone a thumbs up for providing useful information. I also made sure to hit the subscribe button. Looking forward to watching more of your videos.

    Nice, so all King Race bearings have a Pmax coating on them? What's your thoughts on doing the main bearings?

    Just finished building my car after all year working on it. Started it and it immediately heard ticking from the valve train. Worst feeling in the world but now I get to tear it apart and learn how to repair it. To anyone in the same situation DON'T GIVE UP and also don't buy an engine and have it shipped to you, if you can't hear it running its not worth it, I got burned haha...

    Would this bearings work on a m54 as well?

    Did you lubricate the bearings before finally installing the arp bolts?

    • @BlakesGarage
      @BlakesGarage  5 років тому +2

      Yeah, sorry forgot to show that step I put Lucas assembly lube on the bearings and crankshaft before final torque of the ARP bearings.

      Blake's Garage wait so you put lubricant on both sides of the crank?

    • @BlakesGarage
      @BlakesGarage  5 років тому

      Yeah, like with my fingers and on the bearing surface not behind it on the rod just the Journal and bearing surface.

      @zambuzan 5 років тому +1

      Blake's Garage ah ok makes sense. For some reason I thought that u have to cover the WHOLE bearing in lube... but from what I’m understanding its just the area of the bearing that comes into contact with the crank (not rods).

      @zambuzan 5 років тому

      Blake's Garage oh and you might as well do the head gasket while the engine is out bro! Maybe install some ARP head studs while ur at it too, but maybe not since u said u weren’t boosting it....

    Why not do the main journal bearings also?

      Very late but that would require removing the whole crank? Right

    Rod bearings need to be measured with micrometer and dial bore gauge Plastigage is rude crude and not as accurate. I have done 40 years of this

    Didn't realize it was common for all BMW M motors to have rod bearing issues. I did them on my S65 and they were within miles of going.

      You have to think everyone rev’s and beats the piss out of these engines for like 100k+ so it’s definitely a good idea to freshen them up before something catastrophic happens.
