I know this feeling of accomplishment. i too have spent countless hours tinkering with many engines and there is nothing that compares to the satisfaction in your heart after seeing all your efforts make such a huge difference in this new "piece of art" as my dad would tell me growing up back when I would buy an e30 for 1000 bucks, and do exactly what you are doing. taking every individual piece and making it spotless, because of the love. keep on loving brother! 🤙🏻
There’s that S52 content! Excellent work on the restoration, that was a ton of wire wheeling. Lots of satisfying ratcheting too. I love my power tools but manually ratcheting just feels right. Engine looks mint.
i bought the drivetrain out of my first car at the junk yard recently. sad to see my first car is going to the crusher, but im extremely happy to still have the drivetrain out of it. with that being said, im excited to start tearing it down for a full restoration and swapping it into my 88' ED6 civic. thanks for the inspiration!
About five minutes into this job, those sneakers would have been covered with oil and my down jacket ripped in three pieces. Props for all you did, but especially on keeping clean! :P
@@ChromaticGaragethere's a good chance that the dust you made while cleaning all that off the engine has made it into the bottom end, look its your show, but for people who have already done stuff like this (ie me a few times) it looks all wrong... Keep the engine sealed while doing the crappy stuff and then when your ready for paint just tape around the covers...

Thank you so much man! You really pointed out all the things I really do care about and genuinely just enjoy. I appreciate you for watching the videos, it means a lot! Much love 🖤
Was this a known 100% good engine? I'd be worried about timing chain wear, cam/crank wear, and piston ring wear. Head gasket failures have plagued two of my BMWs. You're a few steps away from taking the whole thing apart, getting it cleaned, machined, painted, and reassembled! No, not a "few" steps really, but with the work it takes to install an engine, why not fully rebuild it while it's like this?
I had it compression tested before doing this. I’d say I’m quite far from doing all of that, would be a little extra at this point. But I’m sure I’ll do that to another engine soon
Hey, how come you are not filthy, messy and disorganized like most mechanics? Very nice work, you make me want to work on my car!! lol I just had to like and subscribe based on how clean this is being done.
Okay, how the hell are your sneaks not ruined from the oil, grease and rust from the engine? 😂 I could never survive that. also I'm a sneaker head too. Im down to see some shoe detailing for sure! 👟
This is such a beautiful video from a uniquely gifted creator. Cars, for me, are a pure joy and an escape from the depressing nonsense that overwhelms our lives. It’s the one thing I am allowed to enjoy with a childlike sense of wonder. Your videos rekindle that awe and appreciation for these gorgeous mechanical souls that never cease to fascinate. “Thank you” can’t convey enough appreciation, but truly- thank you!
Thank you so much Johannes! I believe that everything you just said is very relatable for a lot of us. There are very few things in life that allow that genuine disconnect. Appreciate you for taking the time to watch 🙂🖤
What kind of restoration is it when you just paint the thing ?What about unmounting the head? checking the conecting rod bearings and main crranks shaft bearing and more and more ? :D ok this is vid about engine painting not restoration man :D but as a painter gj
Back on 2012 i replaced the headgaskets since im already there i cleaned the plenum the rods rockers etc. For the heads i used a acid from BettyMills worked wonders. The engine was entirely clean and sparkling that same year i lost my 1992 Acura Legend to Sandy. But an engine sparkling clean is at best.
You should have used Dupicolor primer, DE1612, at least for the block. The paint will most likely have adhesion issues. Source: I did the same thing a decade ago with the same motor.
The day isn't complete without watching a video on your channel. This is the dirtiest I've seen your shop since you moved in! That feels like ages ago! Great work as always!
Haha thanks man! This definitely was dirtiest I have made the floor, no doubt about that. However I think it’s about to get worse with some upcoming stuff haha
Why just respray? It’s on a stand? Refresh it? Just bearings and seals. A good internal clean on the galleries. Rods, pistons, crank, cams will all be good. Just amazes me that the opportunity is there and ya just… paint it. And you paint the core plugs. Why :/
When i do this, i only paint the parts that where either painted from the factory or have had corrosion so paint would help prevent it happening again. Also a steel wire is not suffecient at getting all the corrosion of, the correct method would be blasting. Also 2K paint is reccomended, the one you used wont last if it sees fuel or oil...

good job, is there a reason why you are not using impact or cordless ratchet? isnt that the easy way
No real reason! I find hand tools more methodical when taking more delicate things apart like engines 🙏🤝

nice vid nice edit nice contend. bit u shoul have sand the engine for the spray colour to stick
