- Moose replaces the old OE rod bearings and rod bolts on his Euro-spec E36 M3's engine with King Racing bearings and ARP rod bolts. Pete jumps in to help Moose with the stretch gauge method of tightening the rod bolts.

1:10 There is no debate about it, use ARP rod bolts! Anyone arguing for the OEM parts has not spun a rod bearing yet but will.
Don't you need to machine the bores of the rods because with more clamping force with the ARP bolts/studs, the bore won't be round but oval? I've read that and heard it from somewhere.
yes You need that with oem conrods but seems like they dont care @@Limeayy
glad to see the ARP + dial gauge , Cheers
I was almost inconsolable at the Australian election results, but Moose has cheered me up - thanks Speed Academy!
Me too, what a sad night it is!
So what happened?
A fossil conservative Christian was defeated as prime minister. But his hole clan was still elected so people are upset.
It could be worse, you could be in the UK with our ongoing clusterfuck.
Yes after years of ownership of a e36 m3 euro spec and a couple of engines even a S50 euro in a e30. Arp blots are the way to go indeed very true about odd clamping force ive used OEM bolts and bearing still have the same issues . Why bother .
Great work Moose!
Best shirt ever.
Why is not on the store?
@@therealboofighter It was custom made by Moose ... Harrass DP for it to be added :)
Will be doing this on my M3 at some point so do appreciate the video and the detail you go into with stretching the bolts. Could you share a link to where you bought your parts for this job?
Hello Moose, do you have any details or Video on doing cam replacements and the special tools required for timing the Euro S50?
Hello, I’m Brazilian and I would like to know what you think of the king bearings, I have a 325i and I’m making her engine but I’m in doubt if I pay 2x more expensive and I ride with Ks bearings or cheaper and with king, I didn’t find much content about the king in portuguese so ... please answer me quickly
Hope to see some proper times this season! Get some front camber up there.
Moose spec with a dial indicator.
Well done moose!! So glad you guys have more moose!! His bloopers tho hahaha
Don't you use plastigauge to make sure of the clearance for the oil between the rod and crank ?
As there is only "one size" of bearing there is really no need, unlike with Honda's where plastigauging is a good practice due to the tigher overall clearance requiments
Moose has some great shirts
Moose vid!!!! Wooo!!
Does anybody havw the torque specs for the rods qnd the mains for this engine, i dont have a stretch gauge so using a torque wrench.
Thanks
What spec ARP (2000, 3000 etc) bolts have you used?
Good stuff Moose! Which track day car would you guys choose between E36 M3 (US), E46 M3, or GT86?
The USDM E36 in simpler, cheaper and more reliable than the E46 ... but the 46 will be faster in "stockist" trim as it has ~80HP more. . I tend to lean towards the E36 in terms of bang for the buck. - Moose
That's the same brands I got recommend for my Peugeot 206 GTI they are sweet as
Nice!! CEL EEE KA :-)
Moose! This is not _as_ necessary for an S50B30/32 as for the S54B32 right? I have an E36 M3 (Euro) but have barely heard anyone having the kind of issues with rod bearings as the E46 boys do. Am I correct in my assumption?
Correct .... the euro S50 are far less susceptible to excessive bearing wear than the s54.
My Bearings after 100,000 kms looked pretty good overall.
@@andrewd2911 Yeah thats what I thought. I hang around in lots of racing circles, and racing forums where E36 M3's are the "shit" - And I cant recall anyone whos had rod bearing failure on one of them. Im doing my vanos, valves and would like to do all new seals etc over winter with the engine out - I might look into this, but it doesnt seem necessary
@@Doggepp "If you are in there anyways ...." The bearing and ARP's are reletively cheap insurance. After 100,000 KMs 4 of the 6 bearings were nice with only moderate wear, with only 2 showing some wear thru to the 2nd coating layer. The S54's are absolute train wrecks in terms of rod bearings .... they are pretty much a required 100,000 km maintentance item
@@andrewd2911 Yes absolutely, if/when I take the engine out. I might as well do it. But I wont go out of my way removing the engine just doing that - Which I would do if I bought an E46. I wouldnt even take it to a trackday before fixing the rear subframe/body issue, and rod bearings. I live in europe as well, so the parts for the S50 are very easily accessible! Thanks for the answers. Anything else you would recommend that is a "must" with the S50B32? They're pretty stout from what i've read.
@@Doggepp As you have the 3.2L euro, you allready have the "good" Dual pickup oil-pump (I converted my 3.0L to the 3.2L oil pump) Other than a Vanos rebuild and perhaps the VAC oil-pump shaft upgrade (covered in the next video) you should be good to go. Other than regular maintenance like chain guides/tensioners (My Oil pump guide/temsioner was really worn) - Moose
Sick
120km is 75miles roughly.
You haven't had an American car video in 6 months
That's a good thing UA-cam is overloaded with them and they are Canadian soooo
BALOOOOOPIGA GA GA GA! MOOOOoooooose!
Pause at 5:56
As below 👍👍👍
120000 KM is 75000 Miles NOT 5xxxxx miles. SI units is the future USA :-)
Cel eee ka 😂
Rod bearings chew cause lack of sufficient bearing clearance from factory..if new bearings are same size then whole process will have to be repeated in no time😳🤷
Too short.
Moose tease.
Engine has 56k miles and is in need of bearings? Dang.. that’s considered new where I’m from.. 120k miles is still low miles to me lol even 140k!
My Euro S50B30 is sitting on 187,000Miles (300,000km) now, on the stock bottom end! *touches wood*
The 100,000 km motor did not "Need" bearings, 4 of 6 were really nice, only two showed moderate wear thru to the 2nd coating layer. But as I was in there I decided to replace and upgrade as a preventive measure. - Moose
I'm an idiot, kept trying to understand his fucking shirt. Took me longer then it should have 0_o
