    As is usually the case we had far too little time in this great state! These were our top 5, but we know North Dakota has much more to offer! What are your favorite ND places to visit?

    The cabin that my mother was born in is in the northern unit. I spent my summers in the western part of North Dakota on the farm south of Arnegard. I cherish all of the memories and out of all of the places I've lived, North Dakota is my favorite. Moved back in 2014!

    This video made me cry 🥲 I just feel so strongly about moving here from Maine to start a new life, been researching like crazy and just being where I am now I feel that I'm really missing out in the world, you guys have bison and wild horses! That's amazing, wild horses are kinda rare nowadays aren't they? I so badly want to be there right now exploring my new home but I gotta wait 6 more months to save up as much as I can for the big move. I'm so excited to live there and to see all that North Dakota has to offer! I plan to move to Fargo so not sure how far some of these places in the video are to it but I wrote it all down to explore later on when I get there! Thank you so much for making this video and I can't wait to explore it too!!! 🥰🥰🥰

      You have to be adaptable to live here. Brutal hot summers, -40+ winters, high winds, and dangerous storms. Lived here all of my 45 years. Visited other places and always want to come back home.
      Quite peaceful here and "North Dakota nice" is a phrase for a reason.
      There's more to do on the east side, but it's flat and a higher crime rate. What little crime we have.
      The west side (where I live) is less populous, but more scenic.

    Just visited North Dakota at the end of September/early October. Weather was perfect and crowds were low. If you go after August 31, check opening days as some places close down in September or by mid-October. Additional places we enjoyed:
    - BONANZAVILLE (Fargo). Native American museum, acres of collected vintage farm equipment, autos, trains, carriages, buildings, planes, homes (fully furnished), a church, vintage telephone systems, pharmacy, soda shop, etc - this place is AMAZING!)
    - RONALD REAGAN MINUTEMAN MISSILE SITE Command Center (Cooperstown)
    - NORTH DAKOTA HERITAGE CENTER & STATE MUSEUM (Bismarck)
    - FARGO. We really enjoyed this city. Stayed a couple of extra nights there to visit the HJEMKOMST CENTER (Moorhead MN, just east of state line that runs through the Red River in downtown Fargo). Downtown is clean and feels safe, airport is on the smaller size and easy to navigate, West Acres Mall is still vibrant, and we enjoyed shopping at Scheels (sporting & outdoor store, only in upper midwest?).

    Plan at least 3 days for Medora and Theodore Roosevelt National Park and include the variety show on one of the evenings. For history buffs, visit the Chateau de Mores state historic site. Other than Fort Lincoln State Park, all the attractions listed on this video are in the same area in or near Theodore Roosevelt National Park. The nearest town is Medora. Our family visited this area a few years ago on an extended trip to Yellowstone, the Tetons, and Rocky Mountain NP. If you visit, TRNP, take time to visit both units of the Park, and get out of your vehicle to hike. You will see more wildlife, if you do. We camped in the Park in the south unit, and a herd of bison walked through the camp in the early morning. A bit terrifying, but amazing!
    But the attractions are not limited to TRNP. Bismarck, the state capital, is a beautiful city along the Missouri River and is easily reached on I-94. Bismarck and Mandan are neighboring cities divided by the Missouri River. Fort Abraham Lincoln is a short drive from Mandan. The video did a nice job of describing the attractions at the fort. Just one addition, the fort employees dress in costume and many (if not all) remain in character. It is a fun way to experience history, especially for kids. For those who like history, there is also a wonderful Lewis & Clark interpretive center near Washburn, north of Bismarck, just off US 83. Along the way, there is a fish hatchery that gives tours. A bit less accessible are the International Peace Gardens near Dunseith. The gardens cross the two international borders. For avid hikers, the North Country National Scenic Trail goes through about half of North Dakota, beginning/terminating at Lake Sacajawea not far from Bismarck. North Dakota is a great place to view wildlife. In the north, one might see moose or elk. In Theodore Roosevelt National Park, there are bighorn sheep, bison, and wild horses (mentioned in the video). In the southwest countryside, it is not uncommon to see Pronghorn Antelope. There are hundreds of species of birds. But what is great about North Dakota is the wide open spaces with gently rolling hills of grassland. It has some phenomenal sunsets!

    This is old info from when I was a kid but it's probably somewhat reflective today, though heavy toward "other": 45% were Germans, and 40% were Norwegian; the rest were Polish, French, UK, Eastern European AND Irish, especially in western Pembina County. (Sweden was noticably represented, but most who came over stayed behind in Minnesota.) As for the Irish, it seems you can't quench your thirst in the state without running into one. A visitor once wrote home to Boston that N.D. "is a strange place, the rivers run north and the Irish vote Republican."
    The fine video covered only western N.D. On my list a!so would be: Lake Sakakawea, Turtle Mountains and Peace Garden, Pembina Gorge, Fort Ransom and the Shyenne River, Devils Lake aka Spirit Lake, Kildeer Mountains, Red River of the North and the Little Missouri River. (For most of these destinations, don't just go there, N.D. doesn't have a Gettysburg or Cooperstown, N.Y. Go online etc. for info, set your objective, and arrive with a plan.)

    • @richardjohnson6215
      @richardjohnson6215 2 роки тому

      FYI. The observations above might seem out of place. I meant to reply to Anthony m's question below about Irish in N.D., but my remarks ended up here in the Comments section. I liked the video and am impressed by all the good suggestions other NoDakkers have posted.
