One critique: Mod for mod, and chassis to chassis, an EWG N55 is generally faster because it has a larger turbo than a PWG, not because of the type of wastegate.
Awesome explanation man! Been looking for an in-depth video like this for ages. Props to you for being the only channel (as far as I know) that actually dives deep into the n55 engine and the variations!
Thank you for sharing your informative video. I own a 2012 BMW X5 with an N55 engine, and I’ve been experiencing some issues lately. Recently, I observed that the boost solenoid was energized even at idle. Could you please advise if this is normal behavior?
Mine is PWG Right so basically if I step on it to get my turbo to spool should the vacuum be pulling the wastegate shut? Because when I put my foot down all I hear is the wastegate rattling and the car is not running great it is nearly stalling when stopping and reviving its self to stay on at idle
I have a 2011 335xi n55. I want to do a turbo upgrade. Ive read that my stock turbo is a PWG turbo. Can i purchase a EWG vargas turbo and just bolt it on? Is it possible to go from the stock PWG to an aftermarket EWG on the same car. Please some one answer my question i cant find any answers.
Great video and explanation on the Wastegate. Question? I'm monitoring my wastegate duty cycle with bimerlink and it uses 1 or 2 indicators. Not sure if one means open and 2 means close? Thanks for the help.
@@SimplyCarThings thanks for the response. I was at the store telling the guy it's 3.5 for the ewg and 4 for the pwg. Guess I owe him an apology when I go back
dawson the stock wheels grew on me quite a bit but if i was keeping the car i would change them. Im actually going to be selling my car pretty soon for another BMW
Question I see you have a burger Motorsports intake too. Mine always comes loose overtime causing the car to hiccup on my 335i n55 do you have the same issue? I always have to tighten the band to keep the intake attached.
It doesn't exist but it's entirely possible to make. The DME sends an electric signal to your boost solenoids to actuate your wastegates. You could easily make an electronic device that reads that signal to pull your wastegates shut, without any vacuum. I really hope someone develops something like this eventually, because I have spent way too much money fixing my vacuum lines and boost solenoids.
My friend please help I have a completely engine with dme and harnest with ewg turbo and I want to swap on my broken engine with pwg turbo want ylro know if it works before I swap the turbo but I really want to keep the one with ewg it has a low milage on it please help if can be done thanks.. it is a F10 bmw 535xi thanks
Bro , I need your advise I have the same car like yours 16 bmw m235i x drive I already change all my piping into performance FTP , charge pipe , boost pipe , and inlet turbo pipe , and arm motor sports FMIC , injen cold air intake I’m running a JB + I take out , because I thought the engine fault code will elimate ? But still there , and also I installed a burger tuning oil sports valve that might be the problem ? Kindly advise bro , what should i do thanks .
Don't know if that's true, rumours have said some early n54 had forged crank and rods also but others have said just good strong cast. Maybe n54 is closed block and n55 is open block, so suffer from knock at lower power, but again this is here say
@@TheCinderellaman10 yes true but both N55 and N54 share the same open deck design, turns out the fueling on the N54 is better ie fuel pump and injectors

the PWG cars also tend to accept a higher blend of E85 w/o upgrading either of the fuel pumps.
MHD ewg F series can only run e20
@@Youngtruckerdee yea, iirc I was able to run e30 on my PWG N55
I'm running full e on mine with no problems
@@JoseGomez-gx9uz upgraded fuel pump?
great video man! another advantage of EWG’s are the lack of vacuum/boost leaks which can be present in PWG’s and result in power loss
ahh thats a great point! I didnt even think about that

thanks so much man! i really enjoy sharing cool info about these cars with others so glad to hear you like the vids!
I’ve been watching this guy forever
I have the PWG since I found a much better deal on a 2013 model 335i. EWG seems like a nice improvement. Best improvement is the B58 though :D
good point! the arguing stops once the B58 steps in haha
Same
seriously cool video, I was actually wanting to know this, and you cracked the nail on the head! love from London!
so glad to hear that! thank you for watching and supporting the channel!
After driving both and deciding on a EWG 2015 435i I got 3 days ago. The EWG is fast.....PWG can't compete...it's unreal.

love your videos. EWG was introduced post July 2013 model manufacturing date.
thank you bro! and thats good to know, thank you for sharing
Thanks for the clear explanation! Just subscribed to your channel

I don’t even own a BMW but still watched the vid for some reason
haha, glad to hear that! Thanks for watching anyway
Brilliant video as always Bro.
thank you brotha! :)
I subscribe just because of your precise explanation for EWG and PWG well done 👍🏽 man
ayy thank you so much man!
Can you convert from a PWG To a EWG?
Good question !!!!!!! Answer someone pleas
@@iliasakh6610 It's not economically feasible, you're better off getting a Pure Stage 1 turbo.

You should definitely get those wheels for your M235i at 2:58
they look great dont they? Apex EC-7's although they were fitted on an M2 in that clip
They look sick
Love your videos but what happened to the front lip??
Great video and explanation on the Wastegate. Question? I'm monitoring my wastegate duty cycle with bimerlink and it uses 1 or 2 indicators. Not sure if one means open and 2 means close? Thanks for the help.
Omar really informative video you really know your BMW’s respect Bro 😎
thanks as always, Paul! Appreciate your support!
Nice educational video 🤙🏽
Can i do a modification to my jb4 ewg to use on car with pwg?? I have a big turbo now and i think just change the plug to ewg to pwg?
If I have a pwg and do a turbo Upgrade can I switch to ewg?
Christian Flores yes, will need some coding I believe
im not entirely sure but I assume it would be possible to do so!
thanks i learned something new. so now that im gonna buy 235i i'm good?
yes, 235's all have EWG N55's
I went with a 135i N55 because they’re $10k less. I don’t want to eat $5-6k depreciation with a 235i.
I have a 2015 BMW 535. I assume I would have the ewg which affect the size of downpipe.what size downpipes does mine use.the 3.5" or 4"
I believe your car is equipped with EWG so it would be the 4" downpipe

we've all come a long way since then! thanks for being an og viewer!
are you ever going to get different wheels for your car? i personally don’t like the stock wheels on the f22. just want to know your opinion

Ryan A i havent had any issues with mine coming loose. I would just check your fittings and clamps to make sure everything is secured properly
How do you know which car do you have ?
Hi friend, bmw 335i N55 2013 is EWG or EPG?
Good info brother! Wonder if there's EWG mods for the N54.. lol
The LakesideView i wonder the same tbh!
