  • In today's video I went ahead and gave a direct comparison of the pneumatic vs electronic wastegate variants of the N55. This is a really interesting topic especially for those of you looking to tune your cars and build high power, I also learned quite a bit myself. One critique: Mod for mod, and chassis to chassis, an EWG N55 is generally faster because it has a larger turbo than a PWG, not because of the type of wastegate.

    Awesome explanation man! Been looking for an in-depth video like this for ages. Props to you for being the only channel (as far as I know) that actually dives deep into the n55 engine and the variations!

    the PWG cars also tend to accept a higher blend of E85 w/o upgrading either of the fuel pumps.

    great video man! another advantage of EWG’s are the lack of vacuum/boost leaks which can be present in PWG’s and result in power loss

    Great video and explanation on the Wastegate. Question? I'm monitoring my wastegate duty cycle with bimerlink and it uses 1 or 2 indicators. Not sure if one means open and 2 means close? Thanks for the help.

    I have the PWG since I found a much better deal on a 2013 model 335i. EWG seems like a nice improvement. Best improvement is the B58 though :D

    Thank you for sharing your informative video. I own a 2012 BMW X5 with an N55 engine, and I’ve been experiencing some issues lately. Recently, I observed that the boost solenoid was energized even at idle. Could you please advise if this is normal behavior?

    Mine is PWG Right so basically if I step on it to get my turbo to spool should the vacuum be pulling the wastegate shut? Because when I put my foot down all I hear is the wastegate rattling and the car is not running great it is nearly stalling when stopping and reviving its self to stay on at idle

    After driving both and deciding on a EWG 2015 435i I got 3 days ago. The EWG is fast.....PWG can't compete...it's unreal.

    • @TheCinderellaman10
      @TheCinderellaman10 3 роки тому +1

      Don't know if that's true, rumours have said some early n54 had forged crank and rods also but others have said just good strong cast. Maybe n54 is closed block and n55 is open block, so suffer from knock at lower power, but again this is here say

    • @shiv135
      @shiv135 3 роки тому

      @@TheCinderellaman10 yes true but both N55 and N54 share the same open deck design, turns out the fueling on the N54 is better ie fuel pump and injectors

    Question I see you have a burger Motorsports intake too. Mine always comes loose overtime causing the car to hiccup on my 335i n55 do you have the same issue? I always have to tighten the band to keep the intake attached.

      It doesn't exist but it's entirely possible to make. The DME sends an electric signal to your boost solenoids to actuate your wastegates. You could easily make an electronic device that reads that signal to pull your wastegates shut, without any vacuum. I really hope someone develops something like this eventually, because I have spent way too much money fixing my vacuum lines and boost solenoids.
