- #Drishyam2 is a Malayalam-language thriller film written and directed by Jeethu Joseph and produced by Antony Perumbavoor through the company Aashirvad Cinemas. It is a sequel to their 2013 film Drishyam. The film features #Mohanlal, #Meena, Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil, reprising their roles from the first film. The film takes place six years after the events of Drishyam. Anil Johnson composed the music and score, while Satheesh Kurup performed the cinematography.

#Drishyam2 screenplay was spell binding. Even the first 40 minutes of the movie , the screenplay slowly builds up the unease in George Kutty's life and the goosip & grapevine among the village folks.
Nobody could have predicted the outcome of the movie.
The climax was thrilling and had everyone on the edge of the seats.
Just too Brilliant!
Mohanlal's potrayal of George Kutty cannot be matched in other languages.
Yeah even in Papanasam Kamal just overacted the role.He wants the audience to see an Emotional outbreak and made the way blocked for a sequel.I dont think there would be a Remake in Tamil.In kannada character of Ravichandran Confessed that he killed him in the climax 😅.The Telugu and Hindi version seems to have no problem since they have done it as it is.

Esther's friend role was a red herring to keep us thinking that trouble will come through him.

Also the character was poorly performed so it felt like a misstep to me.
Maybe for part 3. The younger one turning a rebel, the family bonding falling apart and she divulging the details to her boy friend etc.
Yeah I also looked it this way only. Only due to the friend's arc we were concentrating more on him and nobody expected Saritha aur Sabu to be undercover police officers. Atleast I didn't.
i felt it was a deliberate misdirection to let audience not suspect saritha and make her revelation more shocking.
BR... i think you probably overlooked esther's friend role... Esther's friend created the reason for Meena to panic, then try to talk about the same with Mohanlal and when he doesnot want to talk about it in detail, she needs a let out and then lets it out to the Cop neighbour. So esther's friend character and scenes are not loosely written. Makes sense!

I’m a Sindhi punjabi living in Mumbai and huge fan of Drishyam, so I already watched the sequel on Amazon prime with English captions on 😀 (I don’t know Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, etc) but a fan of Mohanlal s acting.. I really don’t need the Ajay Devgan Hindi sequel! NO NEED... superr movie

Let me tell why this film is a masterpiece: Just look at the parallels; A thread:
1) George Kutty(GK) sells the land to fund his plans for covering up the crime. Geeta buys the same land for revealing the crime. And they are unaware of each other's plan
2) Life of Jose and GK
3) Sufferings of Rani and her Mother.

@12:07 - From what I understood, after seeing the film for the 2nd time is, Remember Georgekutty's house is tapped. Esther's friend character and that subplot is to initiate a conversation inside the house, between Rani and Georgekutty. Since Georgekutty wasn't interested in talking about anything related to the murder. The police were trying to initiate a conversation, so they get a well detailed confession from either of them. Saritha (policewoman in disguise) tries simultaneously too, with a whole angle of Anju getting suitors for marriage. But the evidence Saritha collects from Rani is a half confession, just enough to make Rani and Anju look guilty, but a mention of a dead body or murder isn't there. Later on in the film, Saritha throws Rani bait, by saying Police suspects the Church cemetery, which Georgekutty denies but again doesn't mention specifics. Police fail in all three instances. So the Esther's friend track was not a red herring at all.

Mr.Baradwaj Rangan Sir, Can we say that, the scene where Georgekutty destroyes the skeleton of varun by pouring acid on it, is a homage to or is inspired by Breaking Bad. As a Cinema fan, Georgekutty, in those 6 years must have watched Breaking Bad also! 😅😁
one scene i liked is the confrontation of rani with georgekutty to find out whether the body is in the cemetery -- i could feel georgekutty's angst on whether to tell his wife about it

the boyfriend character - first it makes us to concentrate on him to find out the mystery and we are deliberately misled, so we do not mind the neighbor's intentions.second - Meena/Mother character was seen being very self-conscious while seeing her daughter talking to the guy, slips because of her vulnerable moment.
Same kind misleading happening when an accident happens suddenly in front of the teas hop, just to interrupt the conversation.

I watched Drishyam 2 today and man o man it is surprisingly amazing. No illogical scenarios and I was worried about how they'll do justice to gerogekutty's character because in the end he is a "criminal" but I was so satisfied as throughout his life he will be in the fear of getting caught and that is more bigger a punishment than him being jailed.

Drishyam 3 can happen because there are actually 3 climaxes, that is in the first half there is a scene where Mohanlal comes to visit sai Kumar(the book writer) there is a conversation between them, Mohanlal saying that sir after discussing with other people they are also not happy with the climax we can drop this climax as well because there are some risky elements as you mentioned, at that time sai Kumar is asking what about the first climax, for which Mohanlal is saying that also not okay. Sai Kumar is asking then do you have any ideas Mohanlal saying he has some ideas and they were going to discuss it which we don't know. In the climax, as we know the first climax mentioned is about the book and the second climax is what we are seeing from sai Kumar's point of view. we don't know what 3rd climax was?

@@faridraza1630 Georgekutty needed a lot of money to execute his elaborate plans of evidence tampering. He needed to grow financially. The capital for his financial growth (or a portion of it) came from Asha Sharath character when she bought a piece of his land. So in a way, she 'helped' Georgekutty to protect his family this time.

Just think about movies where mass heroes kills villains. And live a happy life after that without any guilt or regret. Atleast in this movie it is shown that they suffer trauma in their life. That itself is appreciable.

This can definitely happen considering the system is not full proof and Jeethu did a very good job doing the background work, talking to the corresponding Forensic and concerned police about if such a thing can happen, and Jeethu says he got a response that whatever he has written can happen in a real life scenario as GK has been planning this for over six years.
Some of the questions i do see is on the camera and how body remains is taken but strangely that is how it is happening in the real world too..
Watched it like 3 times and it is about a Well written script where Jeethu joseph as a director has answered many of the questions a viewer may have through the dialogues of each character!!!
yeah i too saw that interview .... there are so many loopholes in real life scenarios that a smart man can actually plausibly manipulate this stuff.... the eyewitness was the only point that bothered me... felt convenient to have placed an eyewitness there especially someone who was not even present in the original

Regarding forensic swap,,,,evwn we thought its too unrealistic,,but jeethu has given that its done very authentically.....he did so much of research with forensic and police and made sure it can happen before plotting it......only problem i found is u cant bug someone's house just like dat....its hell of an illegal activity

It was made as a single movie(as far as I know) but due to its length,it was split into two.

I have a doubt regarding one point in the story. In the climax Saikumar's character Vinayachandran says like, there is also a tail end for this story and then the next scene shows... Georgekutty saving some remains of the body and then sending it to Varun's family. In the beginning of the movie Prabhakar requests Georgekutty to hadover his son's body but he says he can't.
So my question is how did Georgekutty knows about the tailend & when did he narrates it to Vinayachandran ?...or is it happening after Prabhakar's request....thats bit confusing..

Vinayachandran says book was published only 6 months earlier. And Georgekutty continues to meet security guy and Vinayachandran often.
He kept meeting Vinaychandran after meeting Sidique and he often, I repeat often suggested changes to the climax...
@@ZB1902R ya i agreed...but i felt.. that part was not much detailed...the book was published 6 months back but they were discussing the story for 2 years and when Georgekutty visits vinayachandran for the last time (movie scene 23:35) he is saying like he dropped the idea of the new climax becoz of the risky elements that means they discussed it long back & Vinayachandran came from Dubai 2 days back...and that's the same climax which he narrates to the police. There is no possibility like Georgekutty discussing with Vinayachandran about saving the remains of Varun's body as a tailend for the climax.....and that's what confused me....
The tail end was again a part of the discussions he had.... As Saikumar said, he had great cinematic sense.... So he admired his story telling.
He made the copyright of his story of that he could convince his scriptwriter.
While discussing the climax of the story with vinaychandran,Georgekutty asked about the alternative climax, of changing varuns parts, vinaychandran points out risk factor init, and Georgekutty was not sure about it could happen according to his thoughts, thats y when varuns father's asked to Georgekutty for varuns

"Do ask me about it, even if i wish to give u ur son's remainings, i can't, i m helpless. So pls.."
But fortunetly things happened in favour of Georgekutty everything was covered according to his alternative plan and he was able to get varuns remainings in his own hand's, for everyones peace of mind Georgekutty in directly thru a 3person he handover varuns remaining with a letter.

You speaking about Drishyam as an 8 ep series just made me realise there is a similarity between Drishyam and Ozark. Both the protagonist are made to do things to keep their family afloat.

For me personally, Gangs of Wasseypur part 2 is the greatest "indian" sequel ever made. But in terms of only malayalam cinema, drishyam 2 takes the spot.
and i know that wasseypur part 1 is half of the complete story (something like bahubali 1 & 2) and the drishyam films are 2 complete stories.

Mohanlal is one of the greatest actor India had ever produced. It's indeed a honour to share oxygen with him.
The actor who played Jose, who is a comedy artist does not know what's Amazon Prime and he said in an IV he have to figure out as he get many calls from friends.
So Amazon prime is not that deep penetrate in c class town and villages

Also, Agent sai srinivas athreya movie, subtly establishes in the first scene that in all thriller movies, you can figure out who the villain is etc. Here it is the ex-IG but she is referred to in the name of the land she sold. We know she will come back. But it was really interesting how they brought her back
I thoroughly enjoyed and admired the movie. Would like to address few of the questions and please give pointers:
1. The scene where Asha slapped GK seems bit dramatic because she already quitted the post and Murali Gopy is in charge?
2. Why GK didn't bother that much about the recordings in their private room (after finding their true intention). Would have been better if he had sensed or reacted for the same. Not sure whether I have conveyed correctly.
3. Even I felt there are many characters and maybe Jeethu could have avoided few of them. This point is somewhat my personal view because I believe if no of characters say >15, certain shallowness can be felt in thriller genre.

I think the writer / director thoughtfully sent Rani’s mother to Qatar where her brother lives. In D1, we see her brother and obviously they wanted to evade the questions that the audience would ask in D2, when we see Rani and her daughters all alone!

I think the boyfriend angle was just a red herring so that we may not focus too much on saritha' s character. That way the reveal about saritha's character was a twist.
But that made me Expect that Saritha's twist even before revealing.I got a spark there that saritha would definiteky a spy
Chenkol, the sequel to 1989 film Kireedam starting Mohanlal is one of the best sequels according to my opinion. Emotionally and performance wise Chenkol was a notch above Kireedam.

A great sequel and cleverly done the narration portions so that if any loopholes it feels like a miss from the narrator as it’s shown from the narrators viewpoint and story than georgekuttys unlike the first where we were travelling with georgekutty and was looking through his viewpoint. As always excellent performance from mohanlal. Murali gopi and his character helped the movie a lot. Still miss sahadhevan from drishyam 1. The scene where sahadhevan looks in the mirror and confirms georgekutty has something to hide gives me chills even now. One of the best villain roles.
You don’t know I prefer Murali gopi and for reason I was never fearful of sagadevan. Instead I was always irritated by him but so many people loved his acting. But Murali I thought was in a higher level of intellect. His presence in each shot was eye catching.

From the circumstances in D2, two major things gets clear. First, the police realises that Georgekutty will not wait to begin planning the next escape. So they will try not to give him time to set up another 'plot' on his favour. At the same time GK, from the shadow police neighbours and the eye witness, and his wife's vulnerability,understands that even after all this, the police will again come in their way, masquerading in any possible form.
D3 could be a cat and mouse mind game between GK and the police.

Regarding good sequel: I think Lage Raho Munnabhai served justice to it's first part, it being a feel good , spread love kinda movie. Also the characters played by sanjay dutt and Arshad Warsi maintained their arc.
