The harmony of art or visual doesn't define the fortune of a good movie.. Above all the film should generate an emotional connect with the audience in which that vital part is missing for this movie..

Haven't watched the movie yet. But I was also a victim to the hate spread about the movie. Love the fact that he decided to stand up for his film and his team that worked day and night to make this film happen. I cannot imagine how much work goes into making a film like this. Mr lijo thank you for making a visual treat like this, please go ahead with vaalibhan2, we are waiting for that.
I am so lucky to live in an area (in the US) with a lot of Malayalis, so our local movie theater shows Malayalam movies. Ee.Ma.Yau. was my favorite Indian movie until Malaikottai Vaaliban. Thank you LJP !!! I hope you can continue making the movies that you want to make.

That's complex and depends on the viewer ... that's another beauty of this movie
Loved this movie a lot! Amazing experience! It’s a huge miss for those who haven’t watched this in theatres
We are in a state where jailer and Leo were blockbuster there nobody questioned logic or cliche thin…but when somebody made a serious film…ppl are saying its a boring nd foolish film..Malayali audience do not deserve a craftsman like ljp
You grown up watching all the shit movies , that is why you feel this moderately shit as great craft . However keralites got to watch so much of great crafts earlier in Malayalam so they feel this as shit . That is the only difference .
@@travelagain545 earlier also malayali audience trashed good movies and turned out be a cult recently so now u know who s grown up watching shit movies and still watching shit movies.
I felt like the ones who were disappointed were the ones who were expecting something to "happen" or were eagerly waiting for the hero to do something "heroic". But, if one can keep aside all such expectations, and can be just an observer of the story that is unfolding on the screen, and the movie almost transcends into a meditative experience. Not to mention all the references and metaphors LJP had left in there for the viewer to figure it out themselves.
Analysis of such great pieces are what we want!❤
Malayalam cinema literally superb but Malayalam audience are literally different 🚶🏻♂️💔
Hoping you are not among malayalis, there were problems with the way this particular movie was promoted; all the posters and visuals except it's trailer made it seem like something with a mass touch, and even from the crew members there were comments positive about the movie being made for all kinds of audience.
There was also this big hype of Lijo joining hands with one and only Mohanlal too✌🏼

Those that are downgrading Malaikottai vaaliban should watch this interview or any interview that has lijo jose pellissery on his film Malaikottai vaaliban. The interview has lijo jose pellissery clearly pointing out what he was trying to achieve. A western, comic book style, tribute to the films of 60s 70s songs, films, that is Malaikottai vaaliban. It's told in a comic book style that is a western paying tribute to the old films, songs but also doing it in his own way. I personally see this film as Lijo's love letter to cinema and art itself. It's really fascinating to see Lijo so happy to talk about films. Truly shows his love for cinema and I am happy a filmmaker like him exist who want to do something different each time. One of, if not my all time filmmaker. That is Lijo Jose Pellissery!
MV Ljp pure magic 🔥🔥🔥 waiting 2nd part😘😘😘
Valibhannnnn is pure master class
It's such a bliss to see these 2 cinephiles vibe together on this very special film
The way BR handled Lijo is absolutely commendable. Because LJP is also said before in interviews that, he doesn't promote the culture of explaining the movie by the director itself. And BR doesn't asked any questions with respect to his comment, were there is also a great discussion going out there regarding NNM, churuli & Jallikettu plot ideas - endings. BR just concentrated on asking his mindset before every shots & and the way he technically approachs his films
For sure this movie is getting a good feedback now .ppl are understanding the real essence of the film.

Im a guy who watches reviews before going for a film but in recent times i have decided not to watch even the trailer too and when i watch in theatre it surprises me more and malaikottai valiban surprises me marvelously and i realised that when we have 0 prejudices about a film and go watch it,we know truly deep inside that weather a film is good or bad❤
Im glad directors like Adoor Sir is not making movies for this generation of Malayali movie audience. Or else, they would have torn apart his movies stating that there are no mass dialogues, guns shots item dances, and that there is lot of lag in the movie. Same goes with legendary directors like Bharathan, Padmarajan, K.G George, Hariharan, I.V Sasi
IV Sasi and Hariharan were good at directing action sequences. And at the same time, they had a good knowledge on how to blend art and commercial. IV Sasi’s Devasuram is a good example. I feel brilliant screenplays are missing nowadays. There is no Lohithadas,John Paul,T Damodar. Everybody just wants to make films rather than thoughtfully locking in a comprehensive screenplay. Vaaliban is something new and we as an audience should be encouraging that.

Just back after watching MV for a second time. The experience was totally different this time. I feel like MV is LJP's best movie till date...
I don't know how to say... But a lot of people out there including me eagerly waiting to see the sequel of Malikottai Valiban. I can understand the challenges to make that happen but if any possiblity there you should do it because i personally cant watch this masterpiece anymore without the hope of the completion of the story.
I watched the movie in theatres and thoroughly enjoyed it. One of the best cinematic experiences in the past six months for me. I am going to watch it once more tomorrow. That is how much I liked it.
But, there were a lot of issues with the movie and I will tell you those I felt. (Also because you pointed out that everyone with a smartphone is a critic now😂)
1. The promotions- The movie should have been advertised as an LJP sambhavam rather than a Mohanlal movie. Because people came to the theatres with nothing but wrong expectations. And Lijo, how did Tinu’s comment blow out of proportion? The only proportion it emasculated into was exactly what Tinu intended to blow it into. Chumma oraal vannittu theatre kulungum ennokke angu parayuvo? On what base? And that introduction was so simple, so so simple that even a pothead could not say that.
This was a good good good LJP movie. But an average Mohanlal movie is far different from this.
Also, the first teaser was really good, but the first trailer did no justice to the cinema. See, yes it was a part of cinema, but it was not the whole vibe of the cinema. I hope you understand this.
2. The music- the music, for me, was subpar. There was little to no separation for the music except for Vaaliban and the Chamathakan bgm. The rattlesnake hiss signifying unseen evil and poison inside the minds of the people were cool. But apart from that, the background scores failed to convey the emotional turbulence or the state of mind of the protagonist. Also, it failed to put people in a different mood on the basis of what was happening on the screen.
Eg. take KGF 1, each fork that Rocky gets to is noted with a different bgm, not out of the tone of the other ones, but still different from one another. This enables the audience to understand that there’s novelty in the scene or prepare for what is coming.
The scores in MV failed to build the tension and mark the happening of something spectacular. Or even the romance or mundanity.
The folk song was the first time I zoned out of the movie, thinking what cringe this is.
3. Lack of impact on most scenes.
4. The subpar action- The actions pieces, were not that bad to be honest. But they simply failed to meet the mass appeal and spectacle of the Vaaliban in the legend being told or the realistic simplicity of other aspects in the movie. Ividunnu pokukem cheythu avide ethiyathum illa ennoru vibe aarunnu. It was not the worst action or anything, and is quite ignorable if you mentally discount for it. But this inconsistency with the universe you have built, where Vaaliban wanders about as a normal human being and him casually jumping up 90 degree of a pole is what made people zone out and report the scene as lacking any impact.
5. The framing- See, I loved the cinematography of the movie. The frames were brilliant and they gave us a vibe of the story being not limited in any place or time frame, a feeling of unrestricted life and infinite time. But man I craved some moving camera shots and some close up shots. I know this is your style, but I’m sorry I personally preferred the other a little bit better.
It is because of these reasons, that I can understand it when someone tells me they did not like the movie.
I enjoyed it because there is nothing in the industry like this. The world building, the performances. I have no clue why Aswanth roasted the performances, but I loved them. They were only as dramatic as the movie demanded and anything less or more would have been out of proportion. The love story I loved. I did not feel any lag while watching the movie. I did not even zone out except for the folk song part and the fight with the couple.
Waiting for part two.
Well written sir... I would like to underline the fact that there was zero emotional connection with the audience. And almost all the songs were really really poor and cringe worthy.
Neth tha patha....Sema feeel...Super movie of Lal Sir❤
What an interview. Thanks for this !! ❤
4:56 I really thought the same.
Both mohanlal and vijay's fans are the same. They never encourage to experiment something different from usual.
Don't compare vijay fans with Mohanlal fans, look at the success of neru without much hype or promotion it collected 80cr+ without having any mass sequece also mass movies like aaratuu becomes a disaster so audience knows what is good and what's bad
Ppl dont compare Mohanlal fans with the brainless Vijay fans. Mohanlal fans accepted that the cringe mass masala movies like Aarattu and Big brother were poor movies and the fate was reflected in box office. But Vijay fans will boost his movies like anything and even below avg movies like Beast and Varisu made some money. They will never accept failures or negative opinions.
I saw the film first day.... Some of the fans was making fun and making sound in between the film... I must say not only the fans but thr fans was playing along with haters.. I was totally enjoying the film... And they tried really hard that I don't enjoy it.. So no one want to enjoy it..

No doubt Malaikotta Valiban as a Cinema is fantastic Masterclass and Mohanlal as Vaalibhan is matchless but Lijo Sir unfortunately its script or content failed to connect with the larger audiences and to add icing on cake The production and crew tried to use Mohanlal's Mass as a USP starting from Title design to posters and Trailer everything had a massy feel to it which was a mistake from Production end and then the movie failed to deliver what was expected by the audience which led the movie go wrong with viewers so accept it and Let Go. Movie had everything which could have been used for a mass film, but breaking the Grammar of contemporary cinema was the beauty of this film and You and your film making will be written in golden words
