    I really appreciate how you explain that you do what you can do. If you have fifteen minutes then do fifteen minutes. This relieves me of my stress of "all or nothing."
    I've been decluttering as well as maintaining the daily bathrooms and kitchen and it's a great feeling!!! Looking forward to starting Zone Cleaning with you after my baby steps are completed!!! Thank You for the inspiration!!!
    We used to have the orange water droplets (after showering) which my husband thinks were caused by the oil based paint. After painting we no longer have that problem.

    Seeing the fly lady system in action has been really helpful for me. I used her system years ago and was too overwhelmed with all the lists. I love how you have the calendar that you write on so you know what the plan is for the week but you're not overwhelmed by each day. I have been able to follow along and enjoy your encouragement and enthusiasm. Thank you so much for sharing your journey, you're helping me with mine.

    You are doing a great job, Sophia! And it´s really inspiring to hear your conclusions about your old "system" of cleaning compared to the flylady-system! Thanks!

    About the orange drips, here is some info I garnered online: The most common cause of orange or yellow liquid or streaks is oil migration, from linseed oil in oil-based paints and stains used on either interior and exterior surfaces. This can occur even when the oil-based products are very old, and even if they are under many layers of newer paints and stains and other materials.
    We had this at one time in our bathroom after having painted the walls with the standard interior grade Behr paint from Home Depot. We have since repainted, starting with the top-of-the-line KILZ primer (KILZ Premium), then with Sherwin-Williams' top of the line Duration paint, and have not had the problem since.
    So my un-expert advice would be to use a high quality primer then a higher quality paint designed for bathroom/kitchen applications where the painted surfaces are likely to get wet or at least damp.

    I'm still decluttering and doing the morning/evening routine chores. I'm almost ready to start zone cleaning. Thank you so much for explaining this method so well, and guiding us through each day. My house looks so much better already!

    I'm truly enjoying this series. I've been following FlyLady's routines for 4 years. Zone 3 for me is our 2 bathrooms and the laundry closet. Each day I try to do at least 15 minutes in this zone. But today - I had an epiphany. I struggle with the weekly home blessing. Today I realized I dread it because I do entirely too much. More than 10 minutes for vacuuming and dusting. I've decided to stay within the 10 minute limit for each task.

      Ginger Rogers YEAH!! That is what FlyLady says to do. WITH A TIMER!! See my comment to Sophia, above.
      p.s. So, Do you dance? LOL.

    • @grogers511
      @grogers511 7 років тому +1

      LOL! Yes... I know FlyLady says just 10 minutes but I always felt I had to vacuum and dust everything anyway... because of course, I know best. I'll trust the 10 minute cycle for a while and see how it feels. And... yes! I dance whenever I can. Waltzed with my Dad (91) yesterday with him on his walker. Singing... Waltz Across Texas.

    Sophia, I get the same thing in my bathroom on the ceiling (orange droplets). Thank you for mentioning that it might be an old oil based paint behind the current paint. That makes sense! Love this video series (and all your videos!)

    I have often said to myself, "Why do I need to clean that? No one will see it." Thanks to you and FlyLady, I now recognize that it needs to be cleaned because it is dirty (duh!) and now want it clean because I want my entire home clean. It's not about what others think (ok, it is a little bit), but it's more about what I think and what my family thinks. You know what? I have found that since our home has been decluttered and is being maintained on a regular basis, our moods have changed! Our two teenagers are much less "teenagery," my husband is less stressed by work, and I am not feeling so guilty because our home is dirty. FlyLady's method is life-changing, and you have made her method more attainable with your videos. I am forever in your debt.

    You can also use that shampoo you didn't like just as you are using the Bath & Body Works shower gel for the soapy water to clean the toilets than nothing goes to waste. I have also used shampoo or shower gel I don't like in my "HE" washer to wash clothes. The product is used up quickly and nothing is wasted that way. Love your videos!!

    • @kathalinehansen7078
      @kathalinehansen7078 7 років тому +1

      Trissie Etta make the soap you are using in your HE washer isn't too sudsy. That is why HE washers require special formulas. They leave out sudsing ingredients, and make particles smaller so they dissolve quicker in less water. Otherwise, soap will remain on clothes.

    • @londoncalling8121
      @londoncalling8121 7 років тому +2

      Kathaline - I agree. I've always used what Americans call an 'HE' washer (frontloader). That's all there is over here in Europe. I think this could eventually damage the machine too. It could also possibly stain light coloured clothes if the liquid is tinted. Another lady commented that she uses unwanted shampoo and soap as her shaving gel, which I thought was a good idea.

  • @robin8993
    @robin8993 7 років тому +1

    We get them too... however I don't think it is from the previous paint. we remodeled our bathroom and there is no paint behind what we put up and we still get them. I thought it was from poor ventilations, not sure.

    Hi Sophia, I was told that the reddish droplets are caused by the minerals in the water. When the steam dries the minerals stay. We have high iron in our water, that's all I know.

    Sofia, I'm watching the series and cleaning along with you 😉
    I'm concerned you are doing too much though. Zone 3 is the bathroom and ONE other room. Not ALL the other rooms that zone 3 encompasses. I totally get you are motivated and want to get on top of it all, but this method is about GENTLY catching up to a maintained house, not blitzing through the system. Remember, Flylady says only15 minutes per day x 5 days per week. I can see you're already doing far more than that! You work fulltime outside the home as well, so unless you are the energizer bunny, you have limited energy. If you do too much you'll eventually end up doing less than the minimum and end up falling back into old habits. You really should be doing the bathroom and only 1 of the boys bedrooms. Next month do the bathroom and the other boys bedroom. In August, its bathroom and maybe the laundry ... pick the room that frustrates you the most.
    💛💚💙

      Zone 3 in Flylady's book (the original) says Main Bathroom, Children's Rooms, and another room of your choice. And she includes detailed cleaning lists for zone 3 which are further listed as the bathroom, children's bedrooms, extra bedroom, children's bathroom, office, and laundry room. Remember, you have the whole week to clean a particular zone and, of course, adjust it to your home and you (and your family's) needs. I don't think this is Sophia's first rodeo here. She'll be fine. :)

    • @big.fan.of.justice5754
      @big.fan.of.justice5754 7 років тому +3

      I'm just passing along the information I've received from a flylady mentor. And its important for other flybabies who are following to know Zone 3 is ONLY the bathroom and one other room. The whole point of the system is not to get overwhelmed. No one should feel they've failed if they can't keep up with ALL the rooms that are a part of Zone 3 in ONE week. If you've finished those 2 rooms and still have time and energy then go for it 😆 and start another one.
      ps...Flylady has since clarified Zone 3 since her original book was published. I guess there was a lot of confusion among flybabies in this Zone.

    it has to be the oil in the paint that's causing the yellow streak because my bathroom is doing the same thing, i thought it was a vent problem.

  • @shawner4640
    @shawner4640 7 років тому

    If you plan to paint the bathroom for the boys, I would definitely use a heavy duty primer(2 coats) before putting on the color. It could be from previous owners who painted over a wall before cleaning it. Maybe from cigarette nicotine. That is my guess.
    Loving your zone cleaning videos. You are doing a great job.

    Tossing those things on the floor you are making more work for yourself. Use a throw away bag, box, bin, or trash can and carry it from room to room. We had a bathroom that dripped orange and I found out that there was a toilet smoker who lived in the house before us and it was tobacco, it dripped out of the ceiling not the walls.
