    I'm wondering what model to get. I was think the 270L or the 270ML and can't decide between them. I am based usually in melbourne or in cairns. I need a rod that can handle small gts up north but still be sensitive enough for bream down south. If none of these models are fit for this role can you recommend some?

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  Рік тому

      Unfortunately its so difficult to have that one rod that covers multiple species the reality is the L would be great for bream and the ML and M good for small GTs. I have lots of different species and technique specific outfits tuned for indervidial species

    • @AddictiveAnglingfj
      @AddictiveAnglingfj Рік тому

      @@fishingmad Yes that is ok. In a bit I won't really be targeting small GTs just wanted an option that would be good for all round plastics and lure fishing in melbourne and one that can handle small gts. What model do you recomment for what you are doing now in the bay for pinkies and flatties?

    I have the zodias baitcaster rods for barramundi fishing...the only thing I find uncomfortable is the hand grip the horn where your thumb joint presses against especially on the 6'6 model. The longer xtra heavy is a little better. I haven't tried their spin series.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks Darren, yeah it was tough going out there at first. The water was very murky from all the recent rain and floods so the squid didn't want to play. The incoming tide was when the pinkies fired up. The rod feels really nice, great for this light inshore stuff with soft plastics.

    Great vid, always enjoy your video. The new combo is looking great. keen to get one for me. That spot is really good to test the gear, I was there on my kayak on the long weekend, my mate caught rock cods as well. And I caught an odd red mullet on soft plastic, which is a bit unussual.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  3 роки тому

      Thanks 👍 Andre. The new combo is pretty good and versatile. Exactly what you would expect from Shimano at that price point. Yeah I agree that spot is excellent for product testing, the only downside is you catch many small fish with the bigger ones very far and few between. But its a great spot in winter when the fishing is tough. That whole area is reef and I too have caught a few red mullet and also many bright leatherjackets which are always fun and welcome bycatch. Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope to see ya out there. I've always struggled to find decent parking and launching spot there with the kayak so ill have to have a closer look at that.

    Hey Alan, i'm thinking of buying the Shimano Zodias 270L model to fish with soft plastics. I am just here to ask if it can handle fish species like Flathead and Australian Salmon? Also, would this rod be able to cast soft plastics a good distance off of places like the Wyndham Harbour rock wall or the rock wall at Werribee south?

    Hey mate. I'm thinking of buying a zodias. Currently looking at the 270L and the 268ML. I am mainly going to be soft plastics fishing in ppb for pinkies, some snapper and flathead. Because the L model has a lower cast weight on paper it seems more versatile but I was wondering if it could handle a decent model of a snapper or would I need the ML model for that. Can the ML model still cast light lures?

    • @fishingmad

      @fishingmad  3 роки тому

      Hi Joe, great feedback. What longer rod brands and model have you been using?. I have some bigger/longer rods for bigger fish. I will mainly be using the Zodias for light inshore fishing and freshwater fishing so it works well for that. Also good pickup 99% of the time we just drift on this occasion there were a few boats around and we found a half decent school sitting on the reef so we decided to anchor.

      @@fishingmad at the cheaper end the abu Garcia 4 to 8 kgs is a nice rod. Penn are making some really nice rods. Probably the best i have tried is the daiwa td zero i think 3 to 6 kg. A silver one. None of them have a better action than what you are using just a butt about 4 to 5 inches longer. So when you get a 50 cm fish you can tuck it under your elbow. And with a stonker up under your arm. I just can't hold a 60cm 10 lber with just my wrist, lol too old.
