Great review….you saved me 250 bucks! I’ll stick with my St Croix 4 piece Triumphs…..I got 3….They work great! Come to Colorado and I’ll get you on some nice fish! Today in Boulder it was 60 degrees and even with skim ice on half the lake I got some nice hold over stocker Rainbows!

I've spent quite a bit of time in Colorado. One of my favorite places for hiking. Have done four of the "14'ers" out there. (Sherman, Grays, Bierstadt, and Elbert), but have never fished there. One day!!!
Hi T. I tend to use a stiffer rod. I like to have a little more control and "feel." I also tend to use a larger reel. I like to cutdown on the number of wind / turns coming off the reel. I think it helps with line twist. Sounds like the new rod will be for heavy cover fishing. Take care and good luck, Mickey
I just found your channel. I was searching for videos on the St Croix Mojo Bass rods and this video came up. I guess because of your other St Croix rods. I am glad it did. I enjoyed this video and I look forward to watching more of your videos. God bless and tight lines.
You may like the Original Zodias rod as the bottom portion is EVA like the grip area. The bottom of the new zodias that you have is supposed to increase sensitivity.
Ahhh. That makes perfect sense. I can see how that could pick up the slightest vibration. I like the way the Expride looks. Wondering if it has the same line guide spacing.
@@OldLadyAngler from what I see from a side by side they appear to have the same spacing for the line guides but I may be wrong. I assume there is a reason why the bottom guide is lower than your other spinning rod

From a spinning rod casting performance, the sooner the loops coming off the reel are focused the better it casts. If the loops are too big, the line hits the rod blank and slows the line coming out of the reel.
So what do you think of the problem that I'm having? I had this same reel on my Avid X M Fast rod and it performed just fine. To me, it feels like that first line guide is either too close to the reel or maybe it's too small? It felt really odd to me.

Nice honest review Tracy. I love Shimano reels but only own a few of their rods.. I've got a 7' Skeet Reese Medium power fast action rod (Shakey Head/Senko model) that I won in a bass tourney and I love it. Sensitive but with enough power to get them out of some minor slop. And it's not super expensive. The only thing similar is that it has the hook keeper down low and it's not too sleek looking with that gawd awful yellow. Hi Michael. I only got to use it twice. I broke the tip off when I set the hook into a submerged tree. I sent back to Shimano and they approved a replacement but who knows when they'll send it. I've heard it takes a few months. I really did not care for that line slap and also the metallic part of the rod butt. I got an Expride and I'm much happier with it. But in all honesty, I love the St. Croix Avid X rods that I have. I have 3 of them and they're awesome. The only reason I got the shimano is because I could not find a M/H avid x spinning rod in a short length. The Expride has a little bit of line slap but nowhere near the Zodias. Could just be my set up though. I'm using 15 lb braided line. God loves you too!
I can go 12+ hours on this seat. I've done it numerous times. I did invest in a seat cushion in the last couple of years but it wasn't due to being uncomfortable. It was to boost me up a few inches so that the back of my PFD stopped hitting my seatback. Take a look at the new Slayer Max in 10 or 12 foot lengths. I'm waiting on my 10 Max to come off the production line. Any day now.
So is anyone else having issues with these rods breaking??? I’m on my third one that just broke on me. The first one broke at the tip at that time my boy was working at BP so took it back. The second time I just got it back from warranty exchange two months ago or less. Fished with it around 3 times and I baby the damn thing. It broke a quarter of the way from the top while casting. This last time it broke in half while casting. All I use it for is throwing dead shrimp on a 1/16 jig head. It’s the 7’ MH so it should be more than enough rod for that. They travel with rod warrior neoprene covers and neoprene reel covers. All rods ride up in the cab of my truck so no slapping around in bed of truck. I have custom rods by fish stix, J&H and H&H that have never broke once. They treated great as well however not babied like this Zodias. I bought it for the fact that it looked great paired with the vanford. Which by the way is basically a brand new reel cause it spends more time sitting on the sidelines. This is a sad rod!!!
@@OldLadyAngler no mama haven’t heard of this brand. I should have followed my mind and just sold it once the replacement came. I figured that it would be better since it came from factory and not all beat up at the store. Guess I was wrong 😑
Thanks for the review, very informative. All that trash! Why are people so lazy. Thank you for taking care of the lakes you fish. I find myself doing the same thing.👊
I will never understand why people try and fish heavy cover with spinning equipment. When I'm fishing heavy cover I don't want a reel hanging under the rod. It's counter intuitive to winching fish.... You're just making it harder on yourself. Good review though.
Well.... it allows me 100% better accuracy in the area I fish. That's crucial. This rod was bought specifically for light grass and lily pads. No wood. And I've fished this way for years. I have no problems winching in the big fish. None at all. My 9+ pounder two weeks ago was in grass and trees..... pulled in on a M/F St. Croix Avid X and a Stradic 2500.
Seriously that's just a matter of preference if it's spinning pole all my entire life and never once did I have a problem with my real getting in the way😂

It was to boost me up a few inches so that the back of my PFD stopped hitting my seatback. Take a look at the new Slayer Max in 10 or 12 foot lengths. I'm waiting on my 10 Max to come off the production line. Any day now.
Awesome!! Thanks for the info!! I will check into those kayaks!
im a big fan of cork on the handles
Me too, Led. Just feels much more comfortable.
Hi dear, l will buy zodias 4-12
Do you recommend zodias?
I did not care for the Zodias. I do, however, love the Expride that I bought to replace my Zodias
@@OldLadyAngler l bought 4-12 zodias last week 🤓 l like it
So is anyone else having issues with these rods breaking???
Wow... sounds like you really had issues. Have you tried the Expride? I prefer that one over the zodias... but of course it's more $$
@@OldLadyAngler no mama haven’t heard of this brand. I should have followed my mind and just sold it once the replacement came. I figured that it would be better since it came from factory and not all beat up at the store. Guess I was wrong 😑
@@72rrwilson Expride is Shimano.
Nice review sis!
Thank you 🤗
good afternoon, please tell me how do you think shimano zodias 270ml-2 cope with wobblers or jerkbait in size 110
The zodias will handle it.
what zodias do you have? model????
@@Вадим777-ч5з Medium/Heavy Fast taper. 6 foot 6 inch
It's hard for me to understand, Just tell me what number, Is it written near the handle ???
@@OldLadyAngler 266mh??270mh???
I should get another modern Shimano rods, I do have, and like, lots of Shimano reels.
I LOVE their reels for sure. But I think I like the St. Croix rods best.
@@OldLadyAngler I only have 1 St Croix, bought it used, used it for dropshot until I broke it, still works for worm fishing.
@@Uncle_Yukon They have great warranty / customer service too.
😊

Thanks for the review, very informative. All that trash! Why are people so lazy. Thank you for taking care of the lakes you fish. I find myself doing the same thing.👊
People can be so pathetic! Thanks for watching!
Change your reel to a 1000-2000 it casts better
I was hoping to actually increase size to a 3000. It doesn't make sense that a 2500 reel is too large for this M/H rod.
Looks like you need to drag a trailer-raft with a garbage can on it.
hahahahahaha. Darn near
Seriously that's just a matter of preference if it's spinning pole all my entire life and never once did I have a problem with my real getting in the way😂
@kennethrenrock6588 to each his own, right?
