Yeah, it was close, I think the elves missed lethal twice. Once when they didn't activate the first sheppard and 2nd when they played the perfect over attacking with 2 lanowars.
@@jeffcgh Is it though? He was scrying every turn and extra draws with jace, played multiple champion of wits, and played the entire game to dig for the card. It's definitely lucky but it's not insane luck, that's how drawing and digging works
@@sams7068 I just counted. He dug 11 times, including scry, and the game lasted 8 turns. There are 3 languish in the deck, so the odds are about equal that he will draw one. Simply the fact that the very last card he drew was a languish is what makes it cool. That was his last and only chance to draw it.
That was... Amazing to watch. Massacre wurm is such a damn good counter to so much of the meta. Makes me almost sad that field of the dead got banned. I enjoyed oneshotting my opponents after a huge swing turn :D
I really enjoy your thought process for making decisions. I often react instead of being proactive in my card playing decisions. Thanks for the inspiration!🧙♂️
"But, our opponent is also about to take a healthy amount of damage." *slams Massacre Wurm* "One might even say an unhealthy amount of damage" That line had me rolling on the floor lol
At 25:33 Yes, the opponent missed lethal here. If they attacked with their mana dorks instead of tapping them, LVD would have taken minimum 25 dmg instead of 12.
And then they give him the BM "Nice!" when the entire game he's been digging with jace scry/draw and multiple champions for his 4 outs (3 languish/1 massacre worm).
Love me some scarab god action. It was my promo rare for hour of devastation pre-release event, which was also the very first paper limited event I went to so it's something I'll never forget. Good times.
Interesting build. I'm playing a Dimir Mid in Bo3. The synergy between The Scarab God and Liliana, Death's Majesty is really good. Back in Amonkhet - Ixalan standard season, I wasn't able to play that deck. Now I can and I love it.
Its WOTC's way of telling us they forgot a texture. It's the same "issue" we've had with Tibalt since he came out in WAR. His devils have always been that way.
Ok LegenVD, I've been following you for a while and your content is always fantastic! I have one question about gameplay though. I have learned so much through your videos but one thing I still seem to have a completely different instinctual reaction to are your decisions regarding when to keep lands in hand and how many. You keep talking about wanting to hit your land drops and I get that but I think I am personally much more aggressive (greedy ...) about discarding lands over spells. It depends on the deck of course, but for instance if I have 4 lands in play and a cathartic reunion, i will mostly be fine discarding all additional lands because I'll have 4 draws to hit land 5. Do you have any rule of thumb about when to keep/discard your lands vs spells?
I guess there is no real rule of thumb, because it is really up to the deck. I am usually playing as you do, being "greedy" on spells and discarding lands while I am moving through the mid-late game. As you can read from LVD, the main aim here is to reach 8-lands to activate two times scarab God so basically it unravel LVD strategy with this deck.
Currently at the deck tech. I am looking forward to seeing how this performs. I have a similar version with some ideas in common (Barrin, Languish as my sweeper of choice) but the results were very disappointing. I am really intrigued by your deck building skills.
Any chance for a updated verison of this deck? I just started into historic with a blue scarab zombie deck. But i really like how this deck plays, im sure there prob new cards that could make it even better now.
Is Mono Blue Tempo or Control still playable in BO3 historic? I meet so many random Hand Hate control or Ramping Control deck, They are easy to play around counter spell and tempo out mono blue.
wait, in match 3 when you cycled the land to draw out worm, wouldn't it have been better to have cycled on the end of their turn just in case they tried to remove it from your hand? or am I missing something
i think i HAVE to agree with mengucci here that languish just isnt that good ... extinction event in the current meta seems so much stronger being able to deal with uro and the other big breakers

“One might even say an unhealthy amount of damage” 🤣. You had me at Scarab God. I’ll be crafting this one.
Your dry humor is one of the reasons you're my favorite mtg streamer.
LegenVD: *slaps top of any black deck*
This bad boy can fit the entire playset of thoughtseize in it.
LegenVD you are one the greatest magic content creators and my personal favorite! Keep up the amazing work man!
Very true. He's really good at what he does. His explanations are really thorough. Easy for even newer players to follow along.
That languish top deck against elves was amazing! I was on the edge of my seat there. Definitely a top 5 play of the week there.
Yeah, it was close, I think the elves missed lethal twice. Once when they didn't activate the first sheppard and 2nd when they played the perfect over attacking with 2 lanowars.
I could feel the rage emanating from that spirit dance player as everything he played got killed or countered
26:32 Now THAT’s a turnaround
The luck is insane! Imagine if that happened on a PT!

Man really uploaded in the middle of streaming. Absolute legen(v)d! Just built my first commander deck around The Scarab God, can’t wait to play it!
Like, then watch. 🙏🏻
Every. Single. Time.

I actually like at the end but literally saw ur comment and did it ur way cuz I'm tired and might forget 🥴
19:45 that was pure gold!
Damn that Wurm play - just ruined his plan after he did a big swing turn
That was... Amazing to watch. Massacre wurm is such a damn good counter to so much of the meta. Makes me almost sad that field of the dead got banned. I enjoyed oneshotting my opponents after a huge swing turn :D
Well, it is called "Massacre" Wurm for a reason, lol
LVD, thank you for producing these videos every day. Best mtg content creator and great guy :)
I really enjoy your thought process for making decisions. I often react instead of being proactive in my card playing decisions. Thanks for the inspiration!🧙♂️
A Scarab God deck uploaded on this Holy Yargle Day. It would be hard to forgive such heresy if it was anyone else but you.
"But, our opponent is also about to take a healthy amount of damage."
*slams Massacre Wurm*
"One might even say an unhealthy amount of damage"
That line had me rolling on the floor lol
Your videos are keeping me sane while I study for the bar exam. Thank you!
Good luck!
19:50 right there.... it´s for what I live for... that´s Magic my friend hahahah LegendVD always a Pleasure

Love Vastly Dude, our LVD
Honestly your videos are the only ones I look forward to every day now. Amazing content!
Ohhhh man that Languish against the Elf pile was a thing of beauty.

Recently found your channel and I love it! Great content and you have awesome narration and insight.
This deck is particularly fun to watch! Don't know what it is but it's super fun
Love scarab god. Thanks for the vid
Good Stuff as always!
That Massacre Wurm play was massive!
I can't wait to revisit this type of deck with the preators in the new anthology.

Wow this video has Legend getting some crazy last turn top decks. The Wurm and the Languish
Amazing job as usual man! I'd love to see your take on a sultai build in historic! 🤘

It depends on the deck of course. Here I'm happy going all the way to 8 mana for double Scarab God activations.

19:10 mtg arena top 5 plays of the week material?
wasn't there before an animation for The Scarab God?!?!?!
It looks like some cards lost their animation (also thinking of Glorybringer).
"...and our opponent loses the game" hahaha i love your commentary
Have you considered the oracle of half truths ? Seems like a perfect fit for this deck
Living the content brother
Any chance for a updated verison of this deck? I just started into historic with a blue scarab zombie deck. But i really like how this deck plays, im sure there prob new cards that could make it even better now.
Scargle God
Very nice deck! Please can you play UW control next time in Historic
That Languish x.x great moves
Great content
Wouldn't Mind Stone be pretty decent here?
Would definitely be serviceable, although I wanted to try a version with more early interaction instead.
"Life is such a fragile thing." - I miss the flavor text from Languish
Would be nice to see atleast some of your decks in Bo3 ranked also! :) Like this one, as it seems pretty cool and good :)
No massacre girl? Seems like a good recurring ETB for scarab to use
We have Wurm.
The only way shmucks like me can enjoy historic games! Cheers mate.
third game was an exact red wizard edwin odesseiron (from baldurs gate) magic encounter, powerful & cocky summons wasted miserably :)
i like escaping a champion of wits 20:22
You probably should have kept the tales end vs elves since you can counter either the Shepard's or craterhoofs abilities
In hindsight maybe, although it's only a temporary solution to Shepherd.
Hopefully historic adds training ground for that sweet U/B reanimate cost on scarab god
Is Mono Blue Tempo or Control still playable in BO3 historic?

wait, in match 3 when you cycled the land to draw out worm, wouldn't it have been better to have cycled on the end of their turn just in case they tried to remove it from your hand? or am I missing something
At that point I was just looking for anything I could cast, hopefully something cheap. Didn't necessarily have the luxury of waiting.
@@LegenVD ah i see, thank you for replying!
What about running Gonti in a deck like this?
Definitely a great fit!
The dude in match 3 was like, “wtf just happened...”
Do you think this deck could have any legs to stand on in modern?
Path to Exile makes Scarab God a lot worse in Modern.
@@LegenVD do you think there are some simple upgrades I could make to get it to work in modern?
@@theassasin158 Haven't played the format in a while, but Fatal Push is definitely a must have.
@@LegenVD thanks 👌
"I don't think there's anything Tale's End wants to counter in this matchup"
Allosaurus Shepherd comes down; makes a bunch of 5/5s
Yeah, although it's far from the perfect answer.
maybe liliana 4 over jace as a means to get cards into the GY?
But what about sultai
Why does Scarab God not get a cool animation? I know the Scorp god is better, but that is no fair. Scarabs are awesome
noice!
Don't mind me. Just feeding the algorithm.
why not just make an army of zombies so the opponent looses a lot of life? great content!!!
i think i HAVE to agree with mengucci here that languish just isnt that good ... extinction event in the current meta seems so much stronger being able to deal with uro and the other big breakers
I usually play Extinction Event over Languish, but had a good reason to make the switch here. Uro decks are also a lot more popular in best of three.
Gotta say. I did NOT miss Scarab God lol.
Those elf deck guy made two horrible mistakes - doesn't activate castle and tapped 3 attackers for nothing. I get some Dunkirk vibes, to be honest.
: )
i feel like it aint a proper scarab deck without thief of sanity
