My 500hp Mountune Focus RS - Nurburgring Ice Cream Run!

- The first outing for my Mountune Focus RS at the Nurburgring had to include a pit stop half-way around to get an ice cream! Kicking off we jump in with Misha to take it out for a few laps on the Green Hell following the recent engine upgrades at Mountune to almost 500hp. With an exit half way around in Adenau, it made for a bit of fun to break up the lap.
The car is well on the way to being a full-on project now; having started as a 1-of-300 Red Edition Ford Focus RS with 350hp; and now the full rebuild of the engine and new turbo giving it some serious oomph. The first stages had been mostly cosmetic with the interior re-trim from Prototrim and small components like the SS Tuning steering wheel. It was then onto the exterior with the Ventus Veloce carbon aero kit and BBS CI-R wheels with Michelin Sport Cup 2 tyres, plus a Varex Xforce exhaust system. Now though it has spent some time at Mountune to transform the engine from the ground up, including new pistons, conrods, intake, manifold, plus the downpipe with sports cat and of course a tune to manage it all.
Having driven some miles now on the car since the work was completed it's time to start pushing it harder, and the perfect place to do so is around the Green Hell, the Nurburgring Nordschleife. Joined by Misha (UA-cam: @mgcharoudin) as we have done on many previous outings, it's time to get a feel for the car while we take on the lap.
However, to make things a little different, given the absolutely lovely weather on the day we take a stop at Breidscheid in Adenau, the 2nd entrance to the Ring to buy ice creams before returning to the car and continuing our lap!
This is just the start for the Red RS, there will be many more laps and things to come with the car but so far it is running like a dream, and I'm very happy with the results of the project to date.

Exactly what I commented with a bit more words, if it may be understandable why he didn't give him the GT or the Senna, I was a bit disappointed in him, not letting Misha push the Focus for a couple of laps. I would give him drive the Senna and GT asking him to be careful, if they were my cars, I know it, and I would ask him to drive the Focus for a bit more, so he can get used to it, and do a power lap. The Focus, for sure! I was expecting a bit more from Shmee in terms of driving in the Focus, the other two were on a really busy track, and are cars you can't take chances.
chill out, you wont let your friends drive your cars, same thing here. too much to loose, cars aint cheap.

I have to commend Tim and Misha on how they conduct themselves! There is no drama whatsoever in their channels, where others that are here there seems to be conflicts between everyone on this side of the pond. It makes sometimes think who should I watch.....just because.....

I would love to see Misha "the expert" drive your cars around Nurburgring with you as a passenger just to see your reactions. I know you are much faster than most now but Misha - I think you'd agree - would press your cars closer to the limits yet not be stupid about it. Please consider 👀
For sure he'd be more on it than me but there are also other issues to have to consider such as insurance costs, and even then what happens with the sizeable excess were something to happen. Of course that chance is incredibly low but it's a serious issue if it strikes.
@@Shmee150 All true and I appreciate your honesty. Still, I would love to see you driving on track with much less traffic. I loved how aggressive you were with your AMG GTR on Nurburgring after you upgraded the turbos. You were really fast even with wet track conditions with much less traffic that day. Awesome run! Take care and don't work t👀 hard. We worry about you and UA-camr-burnout.

It's amazing that regardless how stock or modified your car is...you can get out and enjoy the sounds of going WOT and shifting between gears. There's just that feeling you get, like a mini-adrenaline rush when you're flat out, nearing red line, and grabbing the next gear..waiting for that power to continue propelling you to a higher speed. I have a stage 3+ 2016 Focus ST, RaceRed like Shmee's RS..and its an absolute blast to drive. Even being in Texas, where we have the highest speed limits in the country, our average highways are limited to 65-70MPH...which is barely even considered 'opening up' the car. So we're subjected to risking getting tickets just to enjoy the cars at their potential.
Funny story..I havent had any speeding tickets in years. On my birthday, in January, I got pulled over for speeding. I was doing 65 behind a slow car holding up the passing lane for miles. The second he got out of the way, I dropped the gear and hammered it. I went to 105+ in seconds. There just HAPPENED to be a highway patrolman getting on at the exact same time. Saw me do 65-105-65 in less than 10 seconds. When he pulled me over, he said 'this is a fast little car'. Then told me he "clocked me at 95" even though he 'knew I was going faster', wrote me a ticket for 80 in a 65, and said to 'keep it under 80'. Pretty cool cop. ^_^ Moral of the story...if I had a Nurburgring to get that need-for-speed out of my system, I prob wouldnt mind doing speed limits more often. But COTA is an hour and a half away and isn't cheap just to turn a few laps.

How awesome to be able to hammer your car around such an iconic bit of tarmac, stop at some point on your way round, binge on ice cream and then crack on to the finish line. This has got to be added to my bucket list. Would love to do it through Apex with Misha behind the wheel too👍🏻

I've had the exact same icecream in Breidscheid from the exact same shop looks like! Content has been epic, Tim. @@Shmee150 Especially for year card holders it's interesting to enter at Breidscheid; the waiting times at the regular entrance can be so busy it's just a waste of time! :)
Yes that's a major advantage alone at the Easter Weekend; just skip in at Breidscheid and do a few laps from there; plus you have the full station in Adenau with a shorter queue than the ED in Meuspath.

He obviously isn't overestimating his skills like some YT users that have never been on the Ring probably or behind a wheel of something with more than 200hp. Who told you that you have to drive on the limit on a TF day? Especially people that visit often the track.... Never drove a track just for fun? His car, his fun and obviously his pocket when things go wrong... We're waiting for your videos with on the limit driving of your cars. I guess we shouldn't hold our breath, should we....

I would like to see this project RS drag race something. Speedometer needle lacks conviction between 80-100mph for 330bhp/tonne car...

I thought Shmee might consider giving Misha a lap in the GT and the Senna, of course having Misha drive carefully, considering it is not his car, and he doesn't know the car yet, but still, I understand why he wouldn't give such a car to anyone else. However, I am a bit disappointed, why Shmee didn't give him do a good lap in the Focus, Misha knows the track up and down, right to left!

disapointed with how slow the rs looks, looks exactly the same as mine thats only got a 390hp litchfield stage 1 map
always looks slower on camera because u dont "feel" the speed and the road. :)
There were only a few parts where he actually went WOT. A lot of that was a casual lap...he 'let' much slower cars pass him. I'm sure a good experienced driver could make a nearly 450+awhp RS run circles around even some of those super cars, minus the long straights. And as Wadu Heek mentioned, which I'm sure we've all experienced...its much faster in person than it looks on camera. Some of us don't need to go all out every time we're in our cars to enjoy our cars..usually those with something to prove do....
You have a very valid point. I had Mountune perform some upgrades and provide a tune of their own. Even though they were able to extract more horsepower than I had on a previous tune performed by another installer, their remapping of the engine characteristics actually made the car slower. So two things I did to get back my car to it’s explosive, slingshot-like acceleration; remove the Mountune WGA, put back the stock one, and go back to the tune provided by Snail Performance. On paper, and the dyno, it has less HP, but it’s actually much faster, as I’m able to do 0-60 mph in 3.2 seconds without using launch control.
While Mountune has great performance parts, their tunes are another story. They attempt to extend the power band and the turbo spool before blowoff, and they succeed at making the Focus RS dull and boring. I know every nuance of my 2016 Focus RS, how it behaves and performs. Mountune turned my Focus RS into a boring Mustang GT, and so I had to return back to original WGA and aftermarket tune.
Shmee, Ford did not tell us about their goodies bag of secret Drive Modes for the Focus RS! I believe in Sport, Track and Drift has up to 3 Drive modes in each in each one! Now, I would love for you to drag and track the RS in each of those secret Drive Modes and see how they far against the competition!

You need to distinguish between turbo and intake sound. You apparently can't tell the difference. However, this RS is very nice - great car with great mods. Deserves more punishment.
