Women has talent she did a good job by the look of it
It's actually good. What should also have been noted is that Chrysalis was a surprise to the audience. What we knew going in to the season finale at the start of the episode was that the main character's brother was getting married, and her friends were asked to come along to help plan out the rest of the wedding. The whole "Invasion of the capital city and a villain taking out not one but two godhorses in a manipulative bid for power" thing was actually developed in a way that's structurally very respectable.

I love this video. It's strange how MLP wrote such competent stories and built complete characters in this cultural peak for its time. I am glad you didn't play it off as a joke and gave it respect well deserved.

Whatever spell Celestia blasted Chrysalis with was so devastating that it permanently maimed her and all changelings down the line were born with holes in their hooves and tattered horns.

Honestly, and I hate how I know this stuffs, the Changelings don’t make use of many physical weapons or seem to care about or need medical supplies. The only things they would need is living food sources, which they can take on the March. And due to their flight they can move around mountains and rivers more effectively than ground limited opponents. As a result, Changeling logistics would center around destroying the logistics of their opponents while using superior maneuvering to evade proper conflicts until they’ve starved out the opposition.

No joke. I had considered starting my own UA-cam series showing how different IPs could theoretically exist in the 40K universe inspired by how much of FiM's lore lines up surprisingly well with 40K lore. The Tree of Harmony is pretty much one for one with the Tree of Life, the Changelings are equine versions of Lakrymoles, the Sirens' entire MO is identical to that of the species who enslaved entire populations into worshipping them that Horus and Sanguinius fought during the Great Crusade. The list goes on.
There's even the immortal solar-themed god-ruler who had to defeat their fallen lunar-themed relative millennia ago.
There's a great classic one-post greentext that explains how ponies are basically orks, but with friendship magic instead of WAAGH! energy.
And another fantastic story that says that Equestria is on it's own isolated world within the Eye of Terror just like Warhammer Fantasy, and that Celestia is the horse that the Emperor rode on throughout history until he had to use things like cars and airplanes to get around. The idea is that he granted her a tiny portion of his power so that she'd be immortal and magically/psychically strong enough to serve as a valuable companion to him. Being on Equestria was essentially a retirement plan he gave her, since he knew Earth would be in for some extremely rough times in the future.

I want to know what his take on the possible tactical applications of Chrysalis' throne are, you know, the one that completely nullifies the manifestation or use of any non-changeling magic within its area of influence? Sure, when it broke, the effect was dispelled, but the idea that beuilding something like that is possible always seemed like something that should've been addressed in future episodes, but wasn't.

-> In the final episode, the 3 Final Bosses (including an super-powered version of Chrysalis), after defeating most of the good guys by force [partially destroying the Castle in the process], took those same fragments & repurposed them to make "anti-magic cages".
(Also): In THE MLP MOVIE (2017), the invading "Yeti" forces also use "black armor" that is impervious to magic (as well as "black cages" of the same material to capture unicorns). It is assumed that the changelings simply "stole" a bit of of that metal using their shapeshifting abilities (then fine-tunning it to not affect their specific kind of magic).

@11:57 Magic Lasers are not something all Ponies, nor all Unicorn nor Alicorns can use. Its a dangerous offensive spell. What is more common is "Concussive Force Beams" The Slap fighting, to add more context, was because Sombras Army is made up of Magically enslaved Crystal Ponies, and Celestia does not want them killed. You could consider that a flaw perhaps, but I do understand why in this case, she doesnt want lethal force done to them.
Not to mention the Twilight Gatling Cannon is something that only works if:
a: you’re in possession of a unicorn of Twilight’s magical caliber
and
b. Pinkie Pie using said unicorn as a gatling cannon would be funny.
I've to admit, I did not expect this from Arch.
And this is coming from someone who enjoyed show and fandom (while it was still in full swing) when I was little.

Arch, you should do more of this. Not the pony stuff (well, not per se), but the militaristic analysies and lore explanations of series with no business being analysed in such a way. I'd recommend Pokémon as a series which would work out pretty well for this, as it does have a decent amount of warfare in its background.

Charlie, a newcomer, is apalled. The first day he did nothing but talk about his beloved Gardevoir. Poor boy has been screaming at night. "I never had nightmares back home" he says. I think his girlfried had a lot to do with that.

Not going to lie I grew up watching Powerpuff Girls, so for me watching MLP was a breath of fresh air from all of the "modern day" cartoons that got unbearably stupid and dumbed down for the "child audience". Plus it helped me through a rather dark time in my life where I was suicidal. Seeing the weird and cute yet also hilarious and serious ponies made going through life at that time more bearable.
Same author, too. Faust is brilliant at making cartoons.
Similar for me, not suicidal but I was in a bad place and this show helped me through it. Sometimes all you need is a nice cheerful story to lift your spirits.
And unfortunately, later seasons made it exactly that. In the series after the movie, the main conflict was that foreign nationals might erode Equestria’s culture and the villain at the arc’s start was a stodgy old man who thought that Equestria shouldn’t change to suit outsiders. This flies in the face of earlier more sensible episodes, like when the yaks were allowed to preserve their culture despite being viewed as weird and backward, because it’s their people and their culture. But no, the new lesson is that the ponies need to give up their own cultural uniqueness and let outsiders’ wants dictate their people’s behavior.

13:12 It's more likely that killing tends to be packaged with hatred and other negative emotions en mass, which have a tendency to attract Windigoes, the spiritual creatures that nearly froze over the world before Equestria's founding. It's part of why pony culture tends to be so friendship and unity focused, to avoid another ice age because ponies just can't get along. Good Trooper Gilda sort of expands on this in a scenario where ponies (and Griffons) actually do kill the opposition, where after a battle the Pegasus assemble a storm to wash away all the carnage so everypony doesn't get so down and droopy it attracts Windigoes; Gleaming Shield even says to Gilda, who believes Windigoes to be a myth, “The pegasus position on that question is that if they keep to their traditions, the windigo will continue to remain a myth."
In the original version the ponies do kill Satan so yeah.
Celestia will not be satisfied with mere murder of her defenseless defeated foes no only their prolonged suffering magically inforced that they suffer for a thousand years!

I was mostly surprised about Pony El'Johnson's return. One of the legendary Alicorns of the Old Kingdom, before Primarch Celestia Guilliman took over.

Can we all jist take a minute to appreciate the fact that MLP:FIM has no right to be as good as it turned out to be?
@3:21 yes the violence was toned down in G4.... but take in mind Princess Luna and Princess Celestia do use Magic Lasers to burn up completely King Sombras body and then they trapped his soul in ice far up north... despite him being a very evil character, that is pretty dark what they did to him. They normally banish villains into other dimensions, but they killed this one.
Sombra was a slaver and a dark magic user. It seems this qualified him for execution rather than banishment or reformation like most villains.
Arch, we thank you for this, your honesty and effort put into this lore was the breath of fresh air your channel needed. Variety is the spice of life, or in this case the sugar in your coffee. Keep it up!
As a Brony who stuck around for six seasons and went to several cons Changelings and Chrysalis are still one of the coolest things they did with that show. Yes the Wending Episode has plot holes but it’s still one of my favorites for how arty and unexpectedly dark and epic it gets. That and I like Shining Armor and his introduction. Back when you could betray men in a valiant light in a girls show.
Season 1’s finale was a goofy, slapstick party gone wrong. It was when MLP was still, for all Lauren Faust’s efforts, a harmless little girl’s show that adult men happened to enjoy as well.
Then season 2’s finale came along and we got open hoof-to-hoof combat against the ravenous brood of _an undead insectoid succubus horse-sorceress._
I laughed so hard I actually had to leave a meeting for like 5 minutes XD amazing as always arch
I’m still amazed that FiM was animated entirely in Adobe Flash. I was still in college when the show started, and my animation instructor used the show in a few tween lessons.
For reference, kiddies, I want you to imagine 1:1, shot-for-shot remake the entirety of the LOTR (extended cut) movies…in the style of paper-craft puppets like in South Park. Before Troy and Matt went digitally animated.
That's a lot of dedication and effort for a Aprils fools joke.

@5:09 They are indeed a pony, I have the official art / lore book. Most the fandom oddly doesn't, they are listed as a pony and undead, energy, emotion Vampire. Most the fandom will cite the comic origins as the true origins of the Changelings, but what they miss is, at the end of the comic, Queen Chrysalis admitted to lying about everything she was saying before she attacked the mane characters and escaped. Even if the comic does override the art source book, they would still be a quasi undead construct.

One of the windows that appears while Celestia is talking shows Discord dangling three ponies over a fiery pit of death. It even bears a startling resemblance to the "Devil" Tarot card. And while we look at the window, the tortured screams of ponies can be heard. A major part of it all is Discord's Faux Affably Evil personality. It's just so disturbing. He loves what he's doing to them. He loves breaking the minds of the mane cast and he didn't even need to do the mundane version through gaslighting; as he showed with Fluttershy, he could've skipped straight to the instant supernatural kind. He did it because he wanted to. No wonder Celestia and Luna imprisoned him in stone for eternity! The World of Chaos Ponyville becomes while under Discord's rule is another example; soap roads; floating, upside down buildings; odd gravity in general; rapid switching between day and night; strange animals; cotton candy clouds raining chocolate milk; a checkerboard ground; false buldings; and many crazed ponies acting very unlike themselves. And that's only a small taste of his power, "the first changes".

The way she says she doesn't want to remember King Sombra's reign involved outright slavery. From the general reactions of the Crystal Ponies, they are clearly traumatized by the experience. One of Sombra's traps involves literal nightmares, trapping the victim in a nightmare that is inescapable unless someone else wakes them up. When the barrier keeping him out fails, one of his citizens screams "I can't take it!" and rushes towards the edge of the cliff, before bumping into him as he ascends the cliff. We're not explicitly told why she was running there, but we can guess the implication was to throw herself off it rather than live under is rule again. Later, during one of the alternate timelines, Sombra is shown to have mind controlled and enslaved the entire population of his empire, notably, the eyes of his slaves are the same as those under the effect of his nightmare spell. After his ressurection by Grogar, Sombra goes on a rampage. He successfully breaches the crystal palace to reclaim his empire again, and instead of going after Shining and Cadence (The monarchs), he moves straight towards Flurry Heart, their infant daughter while laughing, before he is stopped. When it is revealed that Fluttershy is Discord's friend, Sombra immediately shoots a black magic laser at her to force Discord to intervene and become wounded. Despite being an excellent moment for the Mane 6, Sombra's surprisingly Family-Unfriendly Death can really catch a first time viewer off guard. It looks like his skin is melting off as he disintegrates, and if you time it right, you can see what looks like his jaw disintegrating with it. I would like to take a moment and praise Arch for the effort he put into this video, while I’m undoubtedly sure he was cracking up laughing the whole time, he treated this video like just another one of his lore videos and I appreciate that. Most when this time rolls around do not take their things seriously, which is fine you do you, but I appreciate that he told this story in his own way.

As a former brony this was a lot of fun, thanks. Wasn't a fan of the change to them after thorax, really felt like an unlikely retcon because they couldn't keep them as they were. 180 transformations like that are just silly and really felt like they just had no idea what to do with them.

An excellent retelling of our history. I might mention one bit many have missed. The queen intentionally antagonized Twilight in the caves until she was firing lethal blasts at her image, only then did she find the real princess. If her plan had worked, one of those lethal blasts would have been the end of Cadence in her already weakened state, scarring Twilight forever.
The only reason it didn’t work is because of a secret in-joke between the two that Chrysalis couldn’t have seen coming, either.
TBH that iteration of MLP is still more badass than most post 2018 Marvel.
This video just proves that Arch's style and formula can be applied to any franchise in existence, and still be entertaining

As a self-confessed brony at the height of the fandom this was a genuinely great April Fool's video, MLP was part of what got me through Uni knowing that I could always look forward to some light hearted cartoon ponies on Saturday mornings with some great music and art produced by a community that didn't care what others thought of them, so seeing some of their sometimes ridiculous antics presented so seriously by one of my favourite 40K content creators is almost nostalgic and honestly pretty great, well played Arch, well played /)
@5:02 unfortunately, no MLP conventions allow anyone to cosplay as Human Starlight Glimmer when she was a Magic Communist because, as the judges put it" It promotes Nazghoulism" not the exact word, but you know what it means.
Finally more new xenos species lore. Queen Chrysalis and her Changeling Horde are in the 40k Liber Xenologis books right?

2-Would love to see Arch do a 40K/MLP mash-up where he does the whole "which pony goes for which chapter" and if I don't see a Loyalist Luna Wolves for Princess Luna I'll be amused...
3-I think that this is one of the failures of most "modern" cartoon shows in that they fail to make their product sufficiently toyetic enough that they can SELL stuff that would make it harder for networks and TV studios to cancel them. Nobody wants to stop the rainbow if they think they can get a big pot of gold at the end.
Yes, but there is a problem of cartoons being too toyish and the toy creation determine the narrative of the show and not the other way around.
tMNT had too many characters, but most noticably. The cartoon movie to transformers had killed of all the originals to make room for the new characters ( and they toyline).

As a Brony myself, I loved seeing you lose your shit making this video. I think it was an excellent joke video to do and it's this willingness to make silly of what you talk about in the same way you do with 40k which is why you're one of the main tubers i go to for 40k.
