I feel that. Mlp g4 will always have a special place in my heart, but we have to make sure to frequent the right places considering the characters it attracted.
I know you posted this video 4 months ago and i didn't find out about it until now because i'm not exactly subbed to your channel, but thank you so much for the mention Stardust it is appreciated but also kinda unexpected i didn't think anyone would ever mention me in an mlp iceberg video of all things and i don't really understand why anyone would but i appreciate the mention regardless. lol
@@Stardust_42 I guess so, but for the sake of curiosity why did you mention me in your video? because like i said it was a complete surprise to me when Hope Paul found one of my comments and told me about it.
@@TheCommenterDragon I’ve seen you under so many videos, and I just thought you were worth a mention. I guess I just like the effort you put into leaving comments and nice messages
@@Stardust_42 I see, well i still appreciate the mention thank you! Although while many people say that they admire the level of dedication i give to the fandom and the effort i put into my comments which i also appreciate, but i personally don't think that what i do really contributes much to the fandom i mean all i do is commenting and not much else i mean i do have a second channel with my own content but all the stuff i put on their is amateur at best. Not only that but i have learned in the past that sadly not everyone in the fandom likes me or tolerates what i do, but that's okay because you know you can't expect everyone to be on your side, i may not have any control over how people think and or feel about me but if some people don't like what i do then that's their problem.
IF you think about it, Luna saying Equestria has never seen an alicorn birth doesn't HAVE to mean that she and Celestia aren't natural alicorns. It could be that either they were born before Equestria was founded, or that they hail from a land beyond Equestria's current borders.
Yeah. More than likely, it's just retconning the Sisters book. However if you really wanna preserve it as canon you could argue the semantics of what Luna said.
@@pancakes8670 No arguing semantics here, the wording is clear as is the timeline. EQUESTRIA hasn't seen the birth of an alicorn before. The journal of the two sisters makes it clear that celestia and luna are already rather old and almost certainly predate the events told in hearthwarming eve. Honestly I find it stupider for someone to assume that celestia and luna weren't natural born rather than them just being so old they just outright predate equestria.
@@alphamaccao5224 And then the show retconned the book again when it showed Celestia has only been raising the sun for 1111 years. Equestria already existed before Celestia took care of raising the sun, with Star Swirl helping to do it. There's also the fact that Equestria was founded by one of Star Swirl's disciples and that he was Celestia and Luna's teacher, remarking how tall Celestia has gotten in over a thousand years. And also that before Celestia and Luna stood up to Discord with the Elements of Harmony it was him who ruled Equestria. And obviously this must have been after Star Swirl and the other Pillars banished themselves to limbo to have planted the seeds for the Tree of Harmony. So the timeline of events would be like this: Star Swirl -> his disciple Clover the Clever helps found Equestroa -> Celestia begins raising the sun -> Star Swirl and the Pillars plant the seeds of the Tree of Harmony -> Discord rules Equestria -> Discord is defeated with the Elements of Harmony -> Celestia and Luna rule Equestria Using the show canon alone we don't even have any evidence that Celestia and Luna's births could even possibly predate Equestria. And it'd be weird for them to do so considering Celestia only started raising the sun when Equestria was still in its infancy, with its founders still alive. And considering Celestia was much smaller when she was still Star Swirl's student it'd make no sense for her to have been alive for so long already considering what we see of Twilight's growth in the show finale.
As entirely fan made as it is, I like the concept that the Upheaval series created. Celestial and Luna being from a “heavenly” race, sent to help guide Equestria to lighter paths.
but doesn’t Luna say “it’s beyond our understanding”, meaning that even if they were born out of equestria, they wouldn’t be so shocked about an alicorn birth since it may have happened to them
just as a note: mordetwi was not a joke, i was sadly childhood friends with cartuneslover, the person who helped make the mordetwi da art group, and she did it based off of a crossover artist who she was really obsessed w/'s canon. Mordetwi was a thing people were legit into.
lmao i have to make an edit cause i just remembered this * It was the yaoifangal13 person i was friends with, i think cartuneslover was actually the crossover artist
@@mikethegoo The Mane 6 sans Twilight thought she was a pony. The point is, Bridle Gossip wasn't an episode about racism because the ponies who were so afraid of Zecora didn't realize she wasn't a pony. Because the white people were trying to fit them in a European mold, judging them by European standards. The only difference is that the ponies accepted Zacora and decided to learn 😂
Fun fact: Slendermane actually has a card in the official TCG, with a negative set number and no name. When you flip the card from your deck, you instantly lose the game.
In the early seasons especially, there were loads of references to Greek mythology. Off the top of my head: Tartarus, Cerberus, Sirens, Orthros, Arimaspi, Chimera, Phoenix -- all canon. Also a very popular episode where a pony gets into serious trouble through flying too close to the sun and it destroying her wings...
No idea if anyone has done this but here goes 0:00 Intro 1:00 Layer 1 (Stuff everybody knows) 4:21 Layer 2 (Stuff every fan knows) 29:41 Layer 3 (Stuff dedicated fans know) 57:25 Layer 4 (Super obscure stuff) 1:18:49 Layer 5 (Dark/sexual/violent entries) It’s fun to learn about something you barely know about and wasn’t into as a kid; I’ve only heard about MLP stuff from Izzzyzzz (and here obviously). @@GLIEEE429a cannon is a firing machine. A canon is something that exists in a show factually, like how it's canon that rainbow dash has wings, or more specifically it's canon in equestria girls that rarity and Applejack are in love
as a younger (2005) fan of my little pony that grew up with the show and wasn’t really online, i had no clue how big the community was and how many inside jokes, references, etc. were created on the internet because of this show! not to mention the memes and fan creations! this was a wonderful explanation and reopened my MLP door in my brain, thank you!!

also, i have the book too! i thought that it was strange that it didn’t include how celestial and luna got their wings, if alicorns had to start as unicorns or if one of them was a pegasus, etc.
same here 😭 as a kid u dont really realise how big a fandom can be unless u actually knew how to read and What ur reading (like, not mindlessly reading words w/o knowing anything ?) (which wasnt my case when mlp was at its peak)
I feel like Spike's element would be "acceptance". Hear me out for my reasoning. It took Spike a LONG time to actually accept who he is and where he grew up. He grew up with ponies instead of dragons. He stated he always felt like he was missing something deep down because of this. He finally learns to accept who he is and how he grew up to be the noble dragon we know now. So, I believe if Spike had an element, it'd be the "element of acceptance".
@@Stardust_42 I wouldn't say trans coded, his story reminds me more of Tarzan honestly. Growing up with nobody looking remotely like him, and then finding people like him later on, and learning more about who he is through these interactions.
@@nineinchthread I mean true, but as a trans guy myself, not every acceptance story has to be an allegory about the trans experience. It can just be about a little boy not knowing who he is or meant to be, and that's ok. Now that I think about it more, Spike really is just old-school King from the Owl House, just tweaked a bit. Fantasy character formula as old as time.
@@LoreCatan wow King really is just Spike lmao, and i was mostly joking about him being trans coded, but we all see ourselves in the stories we read/watch and spikes arc is familiar to me
I know this video is a bit older now, but on the note of “spike is twilights kid,” in the comics she is shown raising him. I know you haven’t read those, but it’s really messed up. From a young age when she hatched spike from the egg for Celestia’s exam, she is forced to raise him alone with no help or anything. it was actually really traumatizing for her, and she failed out of some classes because she literally had to raise a child she didn’t want, ask for, or know anything about. I think she was like 7? Anyway, the comic is super sad to see, but it does give a lot of twilights backstory as she took care of herself and spike alone growing up, and shows just why she focuses so much in her studies, etc. just a bit of extra knowledge :)
in the show spike is treated as a brother/son and it was twilights parrents that raised spike. it was the one where they did the castle security upgrade where shining prolly made equestria have a debt way too huge to pay back
The comics cannon is different from the shows. Even though it's sometimes treated as a backstory for some characters who never got it in the show or a 10th season. It's very confusing since I heard people pick apart things they liked and said it was cannon while things they didn't like was labeled non canon.
About the whole “unicorns are the master race” thing: Twilight is unusually talented with magic from the very beginning of the show. We don’t see most normie unicorns casting spells like the one in the clip. Unicorn “supremacy” DEFINITELY has canon merit but I don’t think the power imbalance is as big as people believe. (Also, the older MLP generations had a lot of older fans too, mostly women toy collectors, so the Billy + Mandy episode could have been joking about that.)
That’s a very good point, I remember I stuck with a Pegasus oc was partially because most unicorns can really only use levitation or light spells. Maybe something powered by their cutie Mark, but not much else.
50:05 I think the issue with "cider" is there's alcoholic and non-alcoholic versions, but the fact they're served in STEINS makes it look like traditional cider.
@@Aysisse Its also because of cultural reasons, Cider while being popular in England and the USA is totally absent in France. Shopkeepers here just have some in stock for decoration
Fun fact about the oc, Midnight Strike! The owner of the OC was a child who bragged about their oc getting into the show because their parent worked on MLP, and actually got banned from the forum she bragged about it on (chicken smoothie) due to it! I and many others talked to her as well and she seemed pretty young at the time. Wonder how she's doing nowadays
"Please don't jump" was Bronycon 2013. I was a volunteer security op in the 4th floor ballroom during said dance. The DJ had everybody in the room jumping for a song. It registered a like 5.something on the Richter scale in the convention center (eta: idk why I put 'hotel' originally) basement. The crazy expensive huge hanging speakers were BOUNCING on the ceiling. It was a wild night.
9:10 - Another video mentioned this. If you couple this with the episode, Somepony to Watch Over Me, you get a stunningly real indication of how they likely died. It wasn't Timber Wolves. It was a Chimera. This explains why Applejack was overprotective of Apple Bloom, and also why she knew how to deal with Chimeras. It also explains why the parents seem to have died at the same time.
About unicorns, I know Twilight was able to take all the apples off the tree but I binged MLP recently and they really drill it into the viewer's head that Twilight is just unusually powerful compared to other unicorns. That's how she became Celestia's personal student. I'm on season 3 and I haven't watched any other unicorn do teleportation or use magic to levitate anything heavier than probably an food or dresses in Rarity's case. There's also Trixie but her talent is magic tricks. I doubt most other unicorns could pluck every apple out of a field of apple trees like Twilight did. That being said, Pegasi are the superior race
So we can assume unicorns like trixie and starlight were actually quite powerful but never went to celestia’s hogwarts so never tapped their full potential (although starlight did realise how powerful she was and did learn on her own) and every other unicorn that more or less went to celestia’s unicorn hogwarts (sunset, twilight) can use complicated magic outside of just levitation (time travel, specific type of spells, teleportation, transfiguration, charms). Cause we see starlight’s sunburst friend is also quite powerful and can use complicated magic too and he went to hogwarts Every other unicorn that didn’t go to hogwarts and aren’t outliers like starlight, can only use simple levitation and only for small items that don’t weigh a lot
I've seen it all, teleportation is actually a very hard spell to master and also all three pony types have magic The earth ponies are stronger than the others The pegasi rely on magic for their wings to work And unicorns just have basic telekinises Twilight, Sunset and Starlight are just naturally powerful Trixie on the other hand was originally planned to have gone to Celestia's school for those gifted unicorns but the idea was scrapped and her strongest magic in FIM is nothing more than illusions, the only real magic she does without the Alicorn Amulet is just the basic telekinises. She can't even teleport Although Trixie in the comics was shown to be an Alicorn in a different universe like how a comic Twilight was shown in another universe to be the "Great and Powerful" one so the two definitely had many scrapped connections... It's almost like they were originally planned to be complete opposites... Trixie only appeared in later episodes despite her scrapped-frim-canon abilities because the creators loved her too much to have her remain as a one off minor character
i'm not sure if anyone has pointed this out, but for the fankid au thing i think this is actually refering to next gens, also called fankids. basically, aus about the kids of the main characters (or side characters, if you want). these type of ocs are obviously not exclusive to mlp, but they were for some reason extremely popular with mlp fans, especially back in the early days of the fandom.
came to the comments to make this statement as well, and a little disappointed it's not corrected/researched even a little bit :( threw my trust off for the other stuff that she doesnt directly mention she looked up
exactly!! I even had my own ocs! what I remember most is a son of Sunbrust and Starlight called Comet who was very serious and studious! aaah, nostalgia! TwT
@@poikilos she also doesn't know much about fallalout equestria(I don't know either because there's A LOT to read!) and with so much stuff on this icebarg I don't blame her for not looking it up ;-;
40:55 Given that Celestia and Luna are incredibly old, I choose to believe this means she was referring to Equestria as a nation not having any naturally born Alicorns, since they would have been born before the nation was founded
people went ham on the "flurryheart is first natural alicorn" as fact but i feel like celestia and luna must have been born alicorns. the whole reason they became princesses was that they could raise the sun and moon by themselves when it took a group of the strongest unicorns to do it, and apparently the unicorns were exhausted while celestia and luna were fine. i feel like since no other pony has been able to do that in canon, (even twilight struggled in s4) it makes sense that they were born alicorns and for some reason the alicorns died out or left and equestria + the princesses don't remember them. a lot simpler and more cohesive, lauren faust pls make a prequel show about what happened to the alicorns lmao.
@@fluff_bunny1885 based on how Lauren views twilight and Candice being alicorns (she didn't want them to be alicorns at all) I think she intended that Celestia and Luna are naturally born alicorns. So yeah.
I like to think celestial and Luna were unicorns and became alicorn through some rite of passage but so many ppl think otherwise and I used to think like obviously they are born alicorns but yeah maybe they are and maybe they weren’t I mean I don’t know but we know cadence and twilight became alicorns so who knows. And let’s it even mention Opaline Arcana
@@rebeccathegachatuber3040 That’s probably in reference to Flurry being born an alicorn to parents who weren’t natural alicorns (Shining is a unicorn and Cadance was a pegasus who ascended like Twilight)
I like to think that Sunset Shimmer is the Element of Redemption, given how her character evolved and changed over the three EQG films. Also, I pretty much knew everything mentioned in the layers....time well spent in the fandom I guess, but sweet Jesus there were some things I forgot about.
really good video!! i will say that the derpy controversy was a little deeper than parents saying 'you cant show that on television', it was actually more of a concern that derpy's stumbling everywhere, breaking things, tone of voice, etc, was Very stereotypical of intellectually disabled people in a really not good way. i do think her portrayal in the last roundup was Not Great, not the worst ive ever seen (im mentally disabled myself), but even then i still love derpy and i think the show could've done some really cool intellectual disability representation with her if the initial reaction didnt make them chicken out of it basically

thank you for calling out/skipping the really stupid theories LOL. my biggest pet peeve of iceberg videos is when people genuinely go in on theories like NO all the babies in rugrats aren't machinations of angelica's mind can we please move on
lol everything needs a theory that basically says its a dream or its a coma or its all in someones head etc. its just a way of saying "this doesnt make sense and i cant make a theory for it, so its weird because dreams!"

The whole thing of Granny Smith founding Ponyville and being hundreds of years old always fascinated me. Since it heavily implies ponies have a very long lifespan. But how long their average lifespan is exactly been a long-going debate in the fandom.
21:19 This might have already been commented but it wasnt exactly because some parents complained, there was an interview with one of the showrunners who made the decision to "censor" Derpy and revealed that their own child is special needs, they found out that "Derpy" can be used in a derogatory way and decided to change her up a bit after alot of thinking.
THANK YOU!!!!! for not putting too much emphasis on the fan theories, i thought i was the only one who hated it when the half of the lower tiers of iceberg videos were just fan theories
i'm surprised this iceberg mentioned the buffalo but didn't mention how pony colonialism exists? and is canon? and also that the ponies aren't even from equestria they're from another land we never see. like ok so the hearths warming episode says that the ponies came from another land. they "found" equestria because the wendigos ruined their land. but like equestria was already inhabited by the buffalo, which we can surmise from the season 1 episode they appear in where they call the ponies "settlers". so i THINK this is all supposed to like how in real life europeans left europe in order to come to america because europe was so bad and they wanted new opportunities, but america was already populated by native americans. however this is still confusing because not everything matches up with america, such as them having a queen. also this means that there is an entirely different land that we never see in the show and that land is where ponies actually come from. maybe a reason why buffalo never appear after that episode is because most of them are wiped out because of the ponies taking their land? idk all i know is that i hate that season 1 episode for making pony settlers and pony colonialism a thing (and also for very grossly misrepresenting the conflict between native americans and the us government)
Colonialism was a thing literally everywhere that there are people. It could just as well represent Saxons taking England from the Angles. or the ancient Scandinavian tribes going south, etc. It could represent any number of mass-migrations of people to occupied lands. Really just trying to say that people migrating from one land to another is a tale as old as time, and even bears mentioning in old stories, for example, old holy myths and even some Native American creation myths.
"this has happened in other places too!" y'all mlpfim is so americanised, of course this was referencing american colonialism 😭 just look at the names of almost every place on equestria's map
Another theory for the origins of Discord comes from Lauren Faust, where she had originally given him an origin story. She essentially thought of Discord as a creation of the universe itself in order to combat all of the Harmony that existed. So the theory goes that Star Swirl accidentally spawned Discord when he created the Tree of Harmony, Discord existing as a counter balance to the Tree. They came into existence around the same time as each other.
Fun fact, I was actually a close friend to the guy who married his Twilight plush for many years, I was even the "priest" who conducted their wedding over skype. He is an interesting character, a bit eccentric to say the least, but once you get past these eccentricities he is actually a rather nice guy who is heavily into retro videogames like Atari. I haven't seen him in years I have no idea how he's doing nowadays. But I know this, back when we last spoke he was significantly more tolerant of people drawing lude art of Twilight than he used to be, he doesn't actually stand by most of his statements in that original post anymore. The case of Jinn is actually connected to another group of people calling themselves tulpamancers, people capable of creating splinter personalities in their head at will, though Jin has always maintained that his Twilight is not a tulpa. The primary distinction being that Jinn always maintained that his Twilight was real while most tulpamancers acknowledge their tulpa's are an aspect of themselves. After knowing them for years it is at least very clear to me that his Twilight is at least a separate personality. Though whenever this is through some kind of split personality disorder or communion with spiritual entities I am not certain.
Im a former brony, stopped watching around the beginning of s4 but was there for the beginning of the fandom, this was so nostalgic it was like living through late middle school into high school all over again. I miss all my old brony friends i lost touch with, i hope they're well, they were my first online friends.
Okay... this is one of my few pet peeves with the fandom: Apple & Pie families being related. I think the episode made it abundantly clear that if they actually are related, the tie is so far back in history, we're talking a couple dozen generations back considering how deep they had to dig in scrolls and books to try to find the connection, they, for legal AND genetic purposes, they ain't related. That's like saying that two random people in this world had ancestors who were on the Mayflower, so they have to be related. Using that logic, you, I, and just about every other person in the United States would be cousins. Reality check; unless you're a banjo player in West Virginia, you ain't my sister-cousin-uncle-mom. So, the ONLY reason Hasbro had for killing MarbleMac is because THE SAME THREE Karens that bitched about Derpy bitched ran around lije the Flower Ponies in a bunny stampede screaming how "Hasbro is pushing incest on our kids!!!" and being their normal obnoxious selves about it.
Noooo I loved Marble shes my fav character and I'm still sad they didn't show her more SHES LITTERALLY PINKIES TWIN SISTER. Very upset but I'm still happy Mac got a gf
Tbh, all life is related so everyone is by definition. No one is more than 50th cousins from anyone else, so it definitely isn’t any weirder than most other relationships as you pointed out. It was a joke in the fandom, but of course we can’t have nice things because some people have to complain about things that don’t matter.
I've always taken Celestia and Luna's comment about born Alicorns a different way. That Celestia and Luna were born before the founding of Equestria, and they were the last born Alicorns before Flurry Heart.
That would be a great interpretation but Luna said “it is beyond even our understanding.” Which could still be interpreted in a way that suggests they were born alicorns, but who knows
@@Stardust_42 Well, if Alicorns used to be born naturally, but for over a thousand years there were no Alicorn births, then suddenly **POOF** Alicorn baby, what could anyone expect them to know except that this is the first Alicorn birth in Equestria's history? I wonder if the fact that Celestia didn't suggest the possibility that Alicorn mothers could give birth to Alicorn babies as a theory means she's had children before and knows that's not the case? What if there's an Alicorn gene that was passed down recessively to children with one Alicorn parent? Perhaps it could be that the recessive Alicorn gene can be forced to express itself under the right conditions and that's how Cadance and Twilight are Alicorns but there aren't a lot more Alicorns running around. In that case, Twilight being an Alicorn would mean that Shining Armor has a recessive Alicorn gene, and it wouldn't be that far out there under the principles of gene theory for parents, one with a dominant and one with a recessive Alicorn gene to have a chance to produce a child between them with a dominant Alicorn gene. Of course that'd be too technical and take too long to explain, not to mention it'd have nothing to do with the show's themes, and that's not even taking into account how it'd even be possible to translate that into terms that wouldn't leave children asking their parents tricky questions.
@@Stardust_42 I mean, there are no other alicorns other than those two and cadance (who is quite a bit younger) so it would be rather obvious that celestia and luna wouldn't understand the process behind an alicorn birth, especially as it's likely they themselves have never had children. The fact that you and so many others get caught up in those two lines just makes me laugh.

You forgot in the Trans Pony segment that there were multiple instances where we see a pony vector, known as Caramel (not Apple) in both fannon AND cannon, shown as either a stallion OR a mare. We first see the character as a stallion in the earlier seasons, then as a mare in a few early mid episodes, then as a stallion for the rest of their appearances. Fannon headcannon is that they magicly transitioned into a mare from stallion but turned back, as they changed their mind
I’ve never heard of Caramel Apple, or any pony for that matter, changing genders at any point during the show’s history. Caramel Apple has always been female in the show.

On 16:46, Bonbon and Lyra being a couple is cannon, and they also get married, it could've been just a fan idea at first but it's definitely in the show and part of the og lore now xD
This is the first time I watched any MLP-related content since I cut out this fandom out of my life in 2017. I am very, very sorry to bring this up, but I have to talk about it after all these years. I was 12 in 2014, and I used to participate in a brony roleplay site (it was a specific one to my country, in my native language, not an international one). I had multiple bronies bringing me into sex RPs, some on the site, some on some suspicious chatrooms, some showing me mlp clopart, some even asking me for pictures of my body, basically every kind of grooming imaginable. The admins never did anything - I was too embarrassed to tell anyone, but some stuff happened on the most public chatroom on the site, so they should know better. Stuff even happened on local brony conventions. I was a closeted lesbian in an extremely christian environment, I didn't even know lesbians existed, and I was bullied at school. I thought I was broken, so I gave in to men taking advantage of me. I ended up in a 10 month physical relationship with a brony who was waaaay older than me, touching me every time we met. I blamed myself for years. I'm glad p*dophilia was brought up as an issue in the fandom, because it certainly affected my life to a degree I couldn't engage in any mlp media because it reminded me of my abusers, even when I accidentally seen anything pony related I felt my stomach turn (It still happens sometimes). I'm on strong antidepressants to this day, struggling to get up for work and even to take a shower. I apologize for this vent, I only recently managed to talk about all of this to my therapist.
also fun fact, in the mlp comic series theres been ponysonas of many chraracters hidden such as Mabel pines, the entire Sailor Moon main cast, Zoro and Sanji from One Piece and Utena
Wow, that was truly amazing content. I used to be really into this show back in the day but falling off around season 6 or 7, had friends that were into it too. it took me down memory lane with fond memories. one thing I'm surprised the iceberg Didn't mentioned how Pony designs were mirrored on the other sides (their manes being down left or right depending on the side you view them from) which I always found weird lol. anyway, subbed to you, was really fun to sit through this entire thing.
As a lover of this series, my comfort show (there has never been a show this unique to me) I was the target audience, young female kid, but I am still so fricken in love with it. Totally worth watching all this which I did, I am very surprised I don’t know some stuff (actually better I don’t for some of the more…..nsfw ones, cuz I was a kid for the first few seasons). High effort for this vid, you deserve more subs!
48:03 I almost had a heart attack because I thought someone found my unpopular Stellar Eclipse comic I finished back in 2015. It’s published, it’s out there, I have the original copy, but I have no idea where the digital one went and I thought y’all found it
I was a little girl when this show was coming out in it's prime and as someone who was part of the target audience when this show started (I fell off when I was around 15 cause I just wasn't watching tv much anymore) this video reminded me of a lot fun memories from when I was little, even the fandom (I had unmonitored internet access)
1:12:21 is actually a Death of a Salesman reference, a short play written by Arthur Miller (the same author of the Crucible, which most people will know of) But in the play, the main character Willy is obsessed with the idea of his successful brother (who we never meet) so I will assume that is the reference made with Pinkie's 'I miss my brother'. Totally just info-dumping, I'm a huge fan of Arthur Miller/MLP and never thought I'd see any crossover EVER.
Man I started watching mlp when I was really young ((I'm 15 btw)) and i was super into the fandom and all, so it was so terrifing and nostalgic to watch this video- Definetely subscribing
Surprise was one of the original 4 pegasus toys way back in G1 (post MPP though) and Scorpan being mentioned was a reference to the very first MLP G1 animated special Rescue at Castle Midnight, where Tirac was the BBEG and Scorpan was working for him because Tirac threatened Spike if he didn't. Also RE: Starlight Glimmer being the dude from LoK, they are both inspired by Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut.
Its depressing how much I knew of the last layer at such a young age,, like when molestia was there I was like “oh right, totally forgot about her” she scared the hell out of me when I was a child and pony mov gave me nightmares because of fluttershy’s shed scene,, ah sweet childhood memories Jokes aside I laughed so much at this video and I’m astounded by the effort put into this
im suprised that mlp creepypastas didnt make it to this iceberg. rainbow factory, cupcakes, little miss rarity, my little amnesia is such a huge part of the fandom edit: nvm i wrote this before watching the last layer, i assumed the creepypastas were popular enough to be in the forst couple layers
In the 7th episode of season 4 of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic titled "Bats!", Applejack states in the song "Bats" that the titular bats are 'mean as sin'. This heavily implies that not only does religion exist in the My Little Pony canon, but that there was a Pony Jesus that was nailed to a cross. This means that Christmas and Hearth's Warming both exist to some capacity.
I dunno if this counts since it was G3/3.5 after all, but there was an episode of MLP g3 called A Very Minty Christmas, so at least at some point in the general universe that MLP takes place in, Christmas is confirmed to be a holiday that ponies celebrate.
Small correction, if you dont mind! "Fankid aus" are actually the same as NextGens, aka when people create the children of canon characters! These arent only made by kids and theres actually a large community for them!
This made me really sad to watch. Not because it was bad, but because it reminded me of my early 20s. I'm 35 now, I've been focused on career (I'm a 3D animator in games) that I all but forgot all the things I loved about the show and the community (despite the drama). around 2015 at 25 I went to university and all but started a new life, it's a nice, but also painful thing to suddenly revisit who you were over 10 years ago. Thank you for making this.
I love all the rat gags you put through this. Really added that extra depth to the video, if it wasn't deep enough already. I can't imagine how long this took to make. Thank you for your contribution to documenting and analysing internet history o7 /)
I remember watching the series when I was a kid. I NEVER realized the show had "lgbtq" Themes. Truly amazing how the show can be fully enjoyed by pretty much any audience and with different reasons.
9:30 about Cozy Glow - to be fair she did almost drain all magic from Equestria which as we know most creatures can't live without, the entire land and most of their systems depend on magic. she almost doomed all life (or most of it) to perish
Very informative, I actually ended up learning something new in every layer (yeah even the first one, i didnt know Lauren left the show after season 2)
I don't usually comment on UA-cam videos but you nailed on this one, girl! I already know a couple of things but some of them I really had no idea, I grew up with the show but never interacted with the fandom since I didn't spoke english back then, so it's always very good to do my research and understand what the heck I saw as a kid- I just wish the show itself developed the alicorn sisters more further... But besides that, I always loved the headcanons fans made! The slice of life was so special when it released, I'm flabbergasted till this day
I havent watched mlp since i was a little ass kid and here i am enjoying the hell out of this iceberg. Majority of the time I don’t even know tf hes talking about but im in love with him
This is a great video! For some reason the part about the Gak ads hit me with nostalgia, I vividly remember the Gak wars lol. My sister & I would watch new episodes as they came out, we were quoting that ad for weeks
I have been seeing Commenter Dragon around since 2019! His comments are the only one's that i intentionally look for whenever i scroll through through the comment sections of a pony video. Because let's be honest the level of dedication he has both for his comments and for the community is to be admired!
this iceberg started off really nostalgic and fun. until the bottom layer made me need therapy
Wow 😳
Congrats you just watched every Iceberg video
I feel that. Mlp g4 will always have a special place in my heart, but we have to make sure to frequent the right places considering the characters it attracted.
Welcome to the MLP fandom
The bottom layer was like a time machine, so many good memories unlocked
I know you posted this video 4 months ago and i didn't find out about it until now because i'm not exactly subbed to your channel, but thank you so much for the mention Stardust it is appreciated but also kinda unexpected i didn't think anyone would ever mention me in an mlp iceberg video of all things and i don't really understand why anyone would but i appreciate the mention regardless. lol
The prophecy! I guess you’ll just have to sub now lmao
Not only that but i have learned in the past that sadly not everyone in the fandom likes me or tolerates what i do, but that's okay because you know you can't expect everyone to be on your side, i may not have any control over how people think and or feel about me but if some people don't like what i do then that's their problem.
what a legend
So the timeline of events would be like this: Star Swirl -> his disciple Clover the Clever helps found Equestroa -> Celestia begins raising the sun -> Star Swirl and the Pillars plant the seeds of the Tree of Harmony -> Discord rules Equestria -> Discord is defeated with the Elements of Harmony -> Celestia and Luna rule Equestria
Using the show canon alone we don't even have any evidence that Celestia and Luna's births could even possibly predate Equestria.
Celestial and Luna being from a “heavenly” race, sent to help guide Equestria to lighter paths.
but doesn’t Luna say “it’s beyond our understanding”, meaning that even if they were born out of equestria, they wouldn’t be so shocked about an alicorn birth since it may have happened to them
The whiplash of switching from "it's a very cute relationship 🥰" to "THEY SENT A CHILD TO HELL"
Nine minutes into the video for background noise and I hear “Hell canonically exists in MLP”
just as a note: mordetwi was not a joke, i was sadly childhood friends with cartuneslover, the person who helped make the mordetwi da art group, and she did it based off of a crossover artist who she was really obsessed w/'s canon. Mordetwi was a thing people were legit into.
i remember being in the mordetwi dA group, i didn't even ship it but i just joined any mlp group i could back then lmao
lmao i have to make an edit cause i just remembered this * It was the yaoifangal13 person i was friends with, i think cartuneslover was actually the crossover artist
Omg I looked up cartuneslover mordetwi on safari and the results are. Interesting.
Twilight was the only one of the mane 6 who even knew Zecora was a zebra. Everyone else thought she was a creepy pony who lived in the creepy forest.
Because you said zebra, you reminded me of it and I need to say it.
Zebras are genetically closer to donkeys than to horses
@@mikethegoo The Mane 6 sans Twilight thought she was a pony. The point is, Bridle Gossip wasn't an episode about racism because the ponies who were so afraid of Zecora didn't realize she wasn't a pony. They tried to fit her into the mold of a pony, so when things like the 'bizarre dye job', living in the Everfree Forest, and foreign mannerisms didn't fit, it set off alarms in a baser part of them.

I find it so weird that MLP has a version of hell. Though, I like the fact that it’s Tartarus, the Greek Mythology version of it.
No idea if anyone has done this but here goes

as a younger (2005) fan of my little pony that grew up with the show and wasn’t really online, i had no clue how big the community was and how many inside jokes, references, etc. were created on the internet because of this show! not to mention the memes and fan creations! this was a wonderful explanation and reopened my MLP door in my brain, thank you!!

I like this little theory, also, Spike is a trans coded character!?!?
@@Stardust_42 I wouldn't say trans coded, his story reminds me more of Tarzan honestly. Growing up with nobody looking remotely like him, and then finding people like him later on, and learning more about who he is through these interactions.
@@LoreCatan I actually understand both because they both about acceptance

I don’t even care about MLP, but the massive amount of passion a lot the fandom has for the shop is crazy entertaining to play in the background.

9:10 - Another video mentioned this. If you couple this with the episode, Somepony to Watch Over Me, you get a stunningly real indication of how they likely died. It wasn't Timber Wolves.
Be sure to watch the EQG movies! Spoiler alert; Sunset Shimmer can teleport!
@@Stardust_42 oh I watched that when I was 11, I completely forgot about it! I'll be sure to do that
So we can assume unicorns like trixie and starlight were actually quite powerful but never went to celestia’s hogwarts so never tapped their full potential (although starlight did realise how powerful she was and did learn on her own) and every other unicorn that more or less went to celestia’s unicorn hogwarts (sunset, twilight) can use complicated magic outside of just levitation (time travel, specific type of spells, teleportation, transfiguration, charms). Cause we see starlight’s sunburst friend is also quite powerful and can use complicated magic too and he went to hogwarts
Every other unicorn that didn’t go to hogwarts and aren’t outliers like starlight, can only use simple levitation and only for small items that don’t weigh a lot
@@Stardust_42 Sunset was Celestia's previous personal student, so she's cannonically exceptional as well
I've seen it all, teleportation is actually a very hard spell to master and also all three pony types have magic
The earth ponies are stronger than the others
The pegasi rely on magic for their wings to work
And unicorns just have basic telekinises
Twilight, Sunset and Starlight are just naturally powerful
Trixie on the other hand was originally planned to have gone to Celestia's school for those gifted unicorns but the idea was scrapped and her strongest magic in FIM is nothing more than illusions, the only real magic she does without the Alicorn Amulet is just the basic telekinises. She can't even teleport
Although Trixie in the comics was shown to be an Alicorn in a different universe like how a comic Twilight was shown in another universe to be the "Great and Powerful" one so the two definitely had many scrapped connections...

Notice how all the light stuff tends to have dark fan-made theories/content, but all the dark stuff tends to have lighthearted, innocent fan-made theories/content for it. It's like people have this weird drive to balance things out.
@@Mega-Brick fandoms have an insatiable need to ask “but what if??”
So characters with happy lives get put into dark situations for fanfic angst/experiments/depth etc., and characters with dark lives get put into happy situations so their fans can sleep easier at night.
all the animal crossing theories being about purgatory and hell and you being dead like omg maybe we just decided to go live with animals for fun!!!! 😭
@@jungjaehyuns headcanon: animal crossing is set after the golden ending of Undertale.
I hate how even though i was never a brony, i had 2nd hand knowledge of the majority of this stuff thanks to my brother, who was a brony
i'm surprised this iceberg mentioned the buffalo but didn't mention how pony colonialism exists? and is canon? and also that the ponies aren't even from equestria they're from another land we never see. like ok so the hearths warming episode says that the ponies came from another land. they "found" equestria because the wendigos ruined their land. but like equestria was already inhabited by the buffalo, which we can surmise from the season 1 episode they appear in where they call the ponies "settlers". so i THINK this is all supposed to like how in real life europeans left europe in order to come to america because europe was so bad and they wanted new opportunities, but america was already populated by native americans. however this is still confusing because not everything matches up with america, such as them having a queen. also this means that there is an entirely different land that we never see in the show and that land is where ponies actually come from. maybe a reason why buffalo never appear after that episode is because most of them are wiped out because of the ponies taking their land? idk all i know is that i hate that season 1 episode for making pony settlers and pony colonialism a thing (and also for very grossly misrepresenting the conflict between native americans and the us government)
Never really thought about it, but yeah ponies were kinda hostile in the early days. Apparently very predisposed to racism too.
@@Stardust_42 Rest assured, I promise you there are like three hundred edgy fanfics exploring it. Some of them surprisingly well-written!
bro really think colonization only existed in the United States
Though whenever this is through some kind of split personality disorder or communion with spiritual entities I am not certain.
i hope hes doing ok
he seems like a nice guy in that message i hope hes doing well
😮
he honestly might be a selfshipper as a coping mechanism (not saying he is 100℅ but it's possible)
Im a former brony, stopped watching around the beginning of s4 but was there for the beginning of the fandom, this was so nostalgic it was like living through late middle school into high school all over again. I miss all my old brony friends i lost touch with, i hope they're well, they were my first online friends.
The way she seems so done by the time she gets to the bottom layer 😭 we appreciate your valiant effort

Okay... this is one of my few pet peeves with the fandom: Apple & Pie families being related.
Omg I don't know why I never realised but yeah that's gotta be why Hasbro didn't do MarbleMac. Which still makes me sad.
Tbh I feel like the ep should of just never been made,, I headcanon them as cousins tho but I think we can all agree that ep was stupid 💀
Noooo I loved Marble shes my fav character and I'm still sad they didn't show her more SHES LITTERALLY PINKIES TWIN SISTER. Very upset but I'm still happy Mac got a gf
I was just like "they gotta be related in some way cause there has to be an Apple Pie connecting the families"
The fact that you and so many others get caught up in those two lines just makes me laugh.
what a ride, thank you for making this absolute piece
cant wait to watch this again during episode break on next horse anniversary 😂
!!
fun fact: cozyglow is probably a teen since cozyglow is roughly the same height as the cutie mark crusaders and we can see the cutiemark crusaders in equestria girls
Thats not how it works, the mane 6 are adults yet are teens in eg, age isnt relevant
@@choonleiniyo yeah they are only teens in eg for merchandising purposes.
The "main six mental illnesses" was my reintroduction to mlp. I watched it as a kid but I didn't stick with it, then when I was like 13 one of my friends sent me a video explaining that theory.
It was weird but I'm glad they sent it so I got back into the Fandom.
THANK YOU for mentioning the whole journal of the two sisters thing!! The erasure of it from cannon made me hate flurry that much more
As someone who grew up with MLP:FIM and (unfortunately) brought into the internet through the brony fandom, it scares me how I recognised more stuff from the NSFW layer than the 3rd and 4th layer. I AND PLENTY OTHERS OF THE TARGET DEMOGRAPHIC OF THIS SHOW ARE NOW CHRONICALLY ONLINE THANKS TO THIS STARTING PIPELINE.
All and all I'm still grateful for My Little Pony AND the fandom as it has, although coming with it's grim side, showed us the love people can have for a show. You truly reassured us as kids and now as adults that there's so much we can do online and there are no boundaries to what we can enjoy and contribute to as communities. So bronies, thank you, truly. You paved the way for the younger generation into the internet.
And thank God I only knew about Trollestia and didn't question what Molestia stood for.
as a fellow child during the peak of the brony era..... yeah. it was ROUGH but also fun
“Okay they weren’t that good, I was depressed, but at least I had ponies”
Exactly how it was for me, you really are a true fan
1:05:34 Initially, Sweetie Belle was supposed to be Rarity's daughter, but the creators didn't like the idea of a single mother in the series, so they scrapped that idea
Things sure have changed huh
@@quantumblauthor7300 who's the single mother?
honestly i like them more as siblings, the idea of rarity being a single mum just doesn't make sense to me in a show like mlp/nm (i don't hate single mums at all!! i think they're all very hardworking and deserve more than they get)
@@CEO_of_SteidiIt makes sense to me we have a single father and a orphan raised by a grandparent in Gen 5 some people have single mothers It makes sense that they would want to represent that initially on the show
@@Maplebear1203 i commented this like seven months ago and idek what i was getting across with this comment?? i think i meant to say they're all canonically 18 or something close to that age but by that logic she'd be a teen mum which would be too 'adult' for a show like mlp
tbf i think mlp would nail a character being a single mum though they can make anything kid friendly and ace it
i love the headcanon of rarity being a mother figure to sweetie belle though because rarity's parents in the show seem lowk neglectful
It could mean their non binary or gender fluid as well !!
@@omoriiii5630 true
I’ve never heard of Caramel Apple, or any pony for that matter, changing genders at any point during the show’s history. Caramel Apple has always been female in the show.
@JZJ7777 just looked it up, but the Apple part was wrong (my bad). It was just Caramel, a tan earth pony with brown mane and tail, with a 3 blue horseshoes cutiemark. The mare version is called Toffee
@@dangreen6901 oh, right.
Derpy is one of my favorite ponies BECAUSE of her eyes she is one of the only characters I ever see with crossed eyes like me and that was really encouraging to me when I was little
31:30 this was actually answered in Season 9 Sparkle seven where it was confirmed that he is her brother not her son, this is a retcon of one of the comics which laughably had celestia have twilight raise spike even tho she’s a kid
Celestia really said “get them started early” lmao 💀
I watched Sad my little pony when my grandma passed away. My grandpa died a few weeks ago and I genuinely considered watching the video again to keep tradition?? Idk it was important to me honestly, and thinking back on that is wild
I absolutely love your sense of humor, so many moments had me laughing! This video felt like a friend explaining things to me.
i remember i was like 9-10 and i was so mad that twilight got wings. i was jealouse of a fictional character (...why tho ) and only accepted her being better than my fav characters when my sister let me cry in her lap for two hours and bought me ice cream...
This is so nostalgic. I was in the tumblr pony ask blog community, and I have drawn so many ponies... And the music and other things... Ahh, best years. I even got a sketch of my character from the official comic artist and a plush. So much stuff happened.
I was expecting to know most of the things on this list (and I did but I also learned a few... unsavory things) but you presented the information in such a funny and interesting way! Great work!
I don’t know anything but the basics of MLP but I love icebergs and your voice is really soothing and enjoyable to listen to. Amazing video.
Thanks for not showing the Luna Game footage, not a lot of things affect or trigger me anymore, but I always have and probably always will have a huge fear of jumpscares, so normally when Luna Game is discussed I frantically skip ahead due to sheer fear, so thank you for that
This really took me back, I remember watching a bunch of old mlp animations, songs, parody videos, grim dark fanfic readings, etc. I made a bunch of really horrible and edgy ocs that I loved so dearly. I was the target age and gender demographic, but i think I mostly interacted with older brony content. The fandom truly did spark my love for art and fandom
1:22:53 Also Twilight was voiced by someone named Rina-chan… Who later went on to become a professional VA under her real name Kira Buckland. Yes, THAT Kira Buckland.
I can’t be the only one who keeps mistaking Christina Vee and Kira Buckland
Kiara Buckland?
Wait what did she voiced i think i heard her before.
The PMV of “Your Gonna Go Far Kid” is actually what got me into the fandom.
It was pretty popular as well I remember listening to it in the day alot even my sister loved it as well as an old friend of mine
I love your tone. You sound so fed up and tired but then you say "Its amazing go watch it" lol I adore it. Its like aggressive love.
I missed Pony Creator, I remember making my own ponies as a kid.
On 16:46, Bonbon and Lyra being a couple is cannon, and they also get married, it could've been just a fan idea at first but it's definitely in the show and part of the og lore now xD
"You can't have a nightmare if you never dream!"
That might be the most horrifying thing I've ever heard, and it was in a damn My Little Pony song...

fallout equestria is legitimately very good. I’m not in the MLP fandom but i’ve read it twice.
High effort for this vid, you deserve more subs!
why did I know more obscure stuff than dedicated fan stuff
I’m not a brony but I watched the show when I was little and I hold the show very close to my heart because it was everything to me as a kid ❤️
I remember being like 9 and crying to the “sad my little pony” video. Fun times
48:03 I almost had a heart attack because I thought someone found my unpopular Stellar Eclipse comic I finished back in 2015. It’s published, it’s out there, I have the original copy, but I have no idea where the digital one went and I thought y’all found it
"Ok they weren't that good I was depressed, but at least I had ponies" I feel you girl 😭
Totally just info-dumping, I'm a huge fan of Arthur Miller/MLP and never thought I'd see any crossover EVER.
this was so fun especially being a fan that wasn't old enough to be apart of the fandom at it's height I can still know what y'all were up to lol
Man I started watching mlp when I was really young ((I'm 15 btw)) and i was super into the fandom and all, so it was so terrifing and nostalgic to watch this video-
Definetely subscribing
Surprise was one of the original 4 pegasus toys way back in G1 (post MPP though) and Scorpan being mentioned was a reference to the very first MLP G1 animated special Rescue at Castle Midnight, where Tirac was the BBEG and Scorpan was working for him because Tirac threatened Spike if he didn't. Also RE: Starlight Glimmer being the dude from LoK, they are both inspired by Harrison Bergeron by Kurt Vonnegut.
This was the best use of my time. Thank you for all your hard work, soldier!🫡
Its depressing how much I knew of the last layer at such a young age,, like when molestia was there I was like “oh right, totally forgot about her” she scared the hell out of me when I was a child and pony mov gave me nightmares because of fluttershy’s shed scene,, ah sweet childhood memories
Jokes aside I laughed so much at this video and I’m astounded by the effort put into this
im suprised that mlp creepypastas didnt make it to this iceberg. rainbow factory, cupcakes, little miss rarity, my little amnesia is such a huge part of the fandom
edit: nvm i wrote this before watching the last layer, i assumed the creepypastas were popular enough to be in the forst couple layers
i just called them grimdark fics, but yeah they're also creepypastas
Truly amazing how the show can be fully enjoyed by pretty much any audience and with different reasons.
me neither! i started rewatching the show when i was 16 and it made me love the show even more :)
I already know a couple of things but some of them I really had no idea, I grew up with the show but never interacted with the fandom since I didn't spoke english back then, so it's always very good to do my research and understand what the heck I saw as a kid-
I just wish the show itself developed the alicorn sisters more further... But besides that, I always loved the headcanons fans made! The slice of life was so special when it released, I'm flabbergasted till this day
Very off topic, but I just got an ad for a F13A5H-lite on the 5th layer of this video. Loved the Video by the way:)
That wingboners part was such a high note to end the video on. Subbed

This is a great video! For some reason the part about the Gak ads hit me with nostalgia, I vividly remember the Gak wars lol. My sister & I would watch new episodes as they came out, we were quoting that ad for weeks
34:09 Could you imagine if some airings if the episode had slendermare, but most of them didn't have that cameo?
I have been seeing Commenter Dragon around since 2019! His comments are the only one's that i intentionally look for whenever i scroll through through the comment sections of a pony video.
Because let's be honest the level of dedication he has both for his comments and for the community is to be admired!
