Not even a single pinch of irony or memeing, this is one of the most insanely well crafted game mods I've ever experienced. Bronies do NOT fuck around when it comes to their serious fandom creations.
I like to call this the swing set effect (a swing set goes forward and backwards aka positive and negative)
Pure passion can be strong and it does alot to people and when direct to something good we get this but sadly most bonies don't do that and use the swing backwards making stuff that'll make anyone cringe

The Everfree Forest being what gave you the most problems was both hilarious and not much of a surprise. This place is about as far away from being "just a forest" as it gets. Place is packed with various monsters and nightmares, and is aggressively untamed by anything and anyone. You are not an invader. You are door dash delivery. And the food is you.

Considering how the forest is the site of the tree of harmony I would advise caution trying to invade there.

the reason you weren't able to do that focus was because the resistance law that you needed was for just canterlot as opposed to the whole country so if you had have clicked on the state you would have been able to change the law and continue down before zecoras resistance formed
Yeah, it's important to read the events in EaW, especially decisions. Taking the time to read events helps a lot rather than just reading the event closure box for what it does.

The changeling are pretty tame when compared to what you can do with some other nations. If i’m correct i think there’s a possibility to exterminate all the griffon with a zebrican nation and you can basically make exterminations zones across the whole of griffonia.

I know very little about MLP in general nor when this mod is set with regards to it. But it entertains me somewhat the idea that just after the show finishes, the entire world collapses into a series of bloody and brutal wars.
IIRC the world collapses into war during the show lmao, the later seasons have a weird amount of focus on politics for a show for 8 year olds
It actually does. Like in the canon with fifth generation MLP it starts off after Equestria has fallen in the after a very brutal and bloody conflict between the pony tribes.

This is one of those projects where you can't help but commend the dedication and skill of the creator, but you're also questioning why the hell it was made and why anyone spent so much time on making it.
Honestly we were bored and left alone on the internet for a bit too long.
Because Bronies are a special breed of dedicated. The world the show crafted was that engaging, and the fans feel an unusual comraderie due to the oppression felt for liking a TV show. And with the world expansion during the last season? Knowing what I know of the show (my BiL was the half finished Celestia fursuit meme, guess what family gatherings were about so I had to stay on the up and up...) Most of this mod was simply plug in the puns and pictures; anyone who knows the lore knows about 90% of this is ripped from the show (including Stalliongrad... that was an actual reference during a Los Pegasus travel sequence iirc).
The anime fights made it almost worth it. Almost. Nothing quite like rainbow death lasers from fashionista and party cartoon horse things.

the reason why the nation would not cap was because the forest is alive and that's what's actually dealing damage to your units(meme event). so you gotta make sure that the forest does not own a single state even the territory you captured. that's why you gotta read the lore sometimes.
The MLP fandom is on another level compared to most other fandoms. The amount of effort and creativity that they put into their fanworks is unmatched.

Facts. Never before has such a concentration of artists been brought together. There was so much art made that stands well on its own right.
I am part of thr Equestria at War community and I can tell you it has been in development since 2017 and has a massive dev team. Currently they are reworking all of ye original continent (equus while also adding new focus trees to zebrica which was released this year and reworking parts of griffonia.) It truly is a project of massive scale and dedication and I can say it has brought many people from all over the world together. Friendship truly is magic.

Long anwser, it just became a unironically good fantasy world out of passion and generally fun gameplay ideas. Plus it the mod has a self awareness to it, it has much more characterisation to...well characters present in those nations, while the ones in more historical scenerios tend to be bland and absent in fear of presenting the historical figure in wrong light or characters are so over the top they only resemble their originals in few traits.

I am a fan of the show, I love MLP and EaW is a fun outlet for my pony addiction. @Koneser is also right as I originally played it for the memes (though I was already a fan of the show by that point) but it was actually insanely good and fun and I even got a friend to play it and they have never been a fan of mlp but this has become one of their favorite mods. Quality is quality and ponies make everything better.

Yeah, taking even just the most recent major addition (zebrica) there's a whole bunch of content in there, literal hours of stuff to read and do - and that isn't including the globe trotting choose your own adventure game alchemy esoteric fascist route.
You know it's impressive when even major things (like the 3D models for the units being changed to be ponies) don't even elicit a response because there's just too much to mention.
There's a ton of hidden content in several countries too. I find the east continent way more interesting than the normal equestria+changeling thing

I haven't seen anyone do some of the hidden delights in Zebrica, like republican chiropterra (religious-socialist or democratic), or founding a trade port ancapistan and turning it into the largest libertarian paradise in the world, taking over an entire subcontinent.

The Everfree forest is magic and full of monsters like a manticore, dragons and a sea serpent. The ponies are afraid of that forest for the most part.

I like how even in game the everfree forest is the most powerful force
Its funny because all of this is pretty accurate to the show which addresses Equestria as a big allegory for the geopolitical and social issues that humanity has faced over the years. The Changelings are racial hierarchists, the dangers of extreme equalism in Our Town, the Buffalo being native Americans who are repressed and in conflict with the Western cowponies, the Griffons being isolationist xenophobes, the dragons trying to overcome their greedy and sadistic culture which ostracized the kind and generous, a literal god of chaos voiced by the same guy who played Q on Star Trek, etc. As much as MLP was about the simple issues of being a good person like kindness, respect, responsibility, etc. it was also discussing many adult themes and issues like genocide, slavery, racism, xenophobia, classism, and authoritarianism.
this is low-key an amazing mod though. has no business being that good

Unironically the best HOI4 mod ever created.
For a property that's been around since the 1980s, there's a surprisingly deep amount of lore. Add in the fan work community (including the devs of Equestria at War), and you have a livable world that almost mirrors our own.
At the same time, nothing before 2010 is currently canon.
I read through the wiki and as painful as it is this could make a good series. It’s immensely in depth and is the most advanced HOI4 mod only seconded to Kaiserreich. I won’t explain the lore but Equestria has a lot going on and looks interesting

Well, as a MLP fan, who has written crossover fanfic with Star Trek...
This fandom has some aggressively creative people. Even if every bit of this video has me laughing.
The fun part is that the writing (in places like zebracia aka the Africa stand in) is really good with great stories and so much effort
For real, the writing for the Star Father path is genuinely moving and it's the only video game content in years that actually made me cry.

The forest isn't bugged, you just clicked randomly at the decisions and failed the checks to keep it in check, so you self locked :) And yes, the Pax Chrysalia path has a number of self locking paths if you don't pay attention.
Best part about furry and brony mods and games is how weirdly good they are. Like from an objective standpoint just on art, technical skill and depth, this is one of the most impressive mods on the workshop for Hoi4.
bronies kept a consistently high quality for all general mods. most other fandom modders are fine with texture swaps. altho, the bad mods are very low...

After a quick wiki search, Thorax is basically the big good guy representative for the changelings. In the show he ends up taking over the changlings after the defeat of Chrysalis. Also apparently at some point he metamorphs into a big rainbow guy or something.

Ponies had an effect on this man
Staykuyi accidentally did perfect roleplay of Chrysalis during this Everfree Forest war :) I dont remember correctly how exactly you should defeat the forest, but it definitely not by usual conquer - look at province modifiers and you will understand why your divisions lost org so quickly. Also i would like to see his reaction when he find out level of resistance in Equestria
I'm surprised the Crystal Empire is that far south. Like I thought the reason it was snowy and icy outside the shields all the time was because it wasn't just at the North end of Equestria, but up in the Artic Zone. Like Alaska or something. But here' we've got a half dozen places further north just on the same continent. Although I guess Pinkie did have to go through the Crystal Empire to hit Yakyakistan, so there's at least one country canonically north of the Crystal Empire. :D

Despite what the "cool kids" say about this mod. It's by far the best mod I've ever seen/played!
It kinda shows that when done right. A hour furry game can feel slightly less cringe than some other pro-nazi mod or alt-history mods out there.
This mod is genuinely incredible, and imo the best HoI4 mod of all. The sheer depth and content available is actually staggering. If you ever play again, Hippogriffia has over a dozen possible paths and is very interesting, and even that is just a small sample of all the content available.

Last time I tried this mod it was just the two continents. The one in the south is new for me. Of the older mod, my favorite country to play is the Crystal Empire as there is a path to resurrect Sombra. One even gets to execute one of the original characters from the show that is acting queen of the Crystal Empire. After Sombra comes in, the country is renamed into an even cooler name. And a choice eventually comes up with a choice to marry one of the other leaders, one of which is the leader stakuyi is playing in this episode.
Never watched the show and probably never will be, but i just love this mod.
It is one if not the best total conversion mod for HoI.
Gameplay wise there are new techs, new unit's and so many detailed focus trees that can let you go so many different ways in so many different nations.
And there is so much lore that mostly has been created from the ground up by the devs, you can either ignore it or read up on huge history and curent events.
My favourite part is tough that you can do your own thing and not just get dragged in to just one big world war like vanilla thanks to one nice thing that the mod does different.
The create/joined faction mechanics are turned off by default, tough can be changed still in the menu btw. But what that does is that you can only create and join factions through focuses, events and descisions and you wouldn't believe how great it is that you can just do your own thing without having to worry that you are draged in to a big war all of a sudden.
All in all this is my favourite way to play HoI by now, i have played so many games alone and with friends so far and im still far from having played all the different nations and directions.
And the devs just keep on adding more and more.
I agree that it's by far and away the best way to play single player Hoi4.
The base game is better for multiplayer because the wars are truly global and you need coordination. EaW is mostly about having multiple small scale wars and it's much more manageable for single player.
The changelings are insectoid shapeshifting succubi. They literally consume love for sustenance. Their main feeding strategy is to kidnap a pony, shapeshift into them, then eat the love of their friends and family until all positive emotion has been drained away. This is canon, this is how it works in the show.
“Why are you trying to spread more misery than me?!” Is totally something Chrysalis would say, lol
If you think about it, where this playthrough ends is where the “Chrysalis victory” timeline starts in the show, Changelings hunting down Zecora and the resistance in the Everfree…

Hello, as a former writer of the game; this is still pretty good after all the years of development (Last wrote for the game in 2020, but man do I have a lot of countries in there I did stuff for at this point that is still there!)
Hope you at least had fun. Though I would honestly, play something besides Changleings. Might I recommend playing again as Kasa, New Mareland, or the Griffonian Empire or the Aquelian Republic?

They didn't like that I was streaming and doing better than their "official stream" and started making a bunch of fake pictures including ones of me doing self harm, such as drinking a blue liquid from a windex bottle.
So I left rather than deal with it even if management was on my side I saw no reason to stay after that.

I was the primary playtester for the entire naval rework and am one of the reasons they have that massive naval tech tree that they do; also figured out how the AI worked for the dev team so they could write a co-herent AI Navy and make it work.
The Penguins were written so much by me that they had me do their admirals and I literally just used the Penguins from Madagascar as a meme that people just enjoyed having
I edited a bunch of the events involving "The Woods" and every changeling player will have PTSD flashbacks from that
Beyond there, various little events, tech descriptions, national focus descriptions, and "International Events" flavor text are mine.
I worked for them for nearly 4 years.
I am glad to see it streamed through the incidents especially the windex bottle has made it where I myself will never play the game.
When it comes down to conversion mods for hoi4, Old World Blues, the fallout one, is my favourite. But I have to say that the amount of effort and story that went into Equestria at War is mind baffling. I really need to try it at some point. But right now in Elder Scrolls Universalis forming Morrowind so... It's gonna take a while.

PS: As far as an easy, fun, conquest heavy nation goes, the Griffonian empire/Equestria are a good choice. Alternatively, you could go with some of the more... exotic ones, like Colthage and the star children, or Barrad mageocracy and Leopold...

The forest is actually a menace in the show so I’m not surprised he failed at trying to take it, especially since he had no idea what he was doing and didn’t understand what he had to read into it

in all honesty this mod is THE best mod for hoi4 and its so sad that it is underappreciated just becuase it has ponies in it

As a brony who doesn't understand history, but does understand the lore, this was so much fun to watch even though I was correcting him as if he can hear me through the screen. I would love to play this, omg.

I've played this mod a lot, (maybe even more than basegame it's so detailed) and it's really good. Not just as a full conversion mod, but in that some nations have special subsystems you can play around with. When a mod adds compelling political intrigue, and the need to balance relations within your borders, you know they've put a lot of effort into it.
Here's the moral of the story, don't set like goals they will always be crushed lol
Has anyone told Stakuyi about the fan built MLP universe that throws Equestria into a apocalyptic Fallout timeline yet? This mod reminds me of that.

I really recommend playing this mod more. Equestria at War unironically is one of the best if not the best narrative HoI mods that exist. As you get focus trees that lead to other stuff with the potential of changing things later down the line. Its great. I haven't played it in ages but last time I played I remember the various Griffon countries being a lot of fun and also many had the possibility of going down different ideological paths or fighting civil wars.
I can explain the Everfree Forest. You see, years ago there was this god of chaos and disharmony called Discord. He is a draconequus, basically a chimera. There was a point in time when he took control of Equestria and ruled with chaos. During his control he ridiculed the lands and puppeteered Celestia and Luna. Eventually the princesses had enough and encased him into a block of stone to be imprisoned until years later where he was reformed by the kindest pony Fluttershy. Right before he was captured and encased in stone he was seen eating a bag of seeds. These seeds were thrown about an already grown forest filled with magical beings such as mimic crocodiles and timberwolves and planted themselves into the ground to become the Everfree Forest. Created by his chaotic magic, these plants and vines grown from these seeds became sentient and living, with the goal of taking over Equestria since the stoning of Discord. Now, inside the forest is a tree called the Tree of Harmony. This was grown by a single seed filled with magic and hope of a better world. This tree grew up near the Castle of the Two Sisters which was the old home of Celestia and Luna. This seed was planted when the original protectors or the land, called the Pillars, had to sacrifice themselves to time and space to hold a pony of shadows called Stygian. Stygian was the original creator of the Pillars but eventually grew mad after being forced out of the group after the group thought that he only wanted to steal their ideologies. This Tree of Harmony had a powerful magic that became the Elements of Harmony, which were eventually controlled by the mane six. (Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash, Rarity, and Apple Jack). What most likely happened is after the lands were taken over by the changeling hive, the tree of harmony realized that something was wrong and had seen that the Elements of Harmony failed to protect the lands from the changelings. With the Elements of Harmony now gone, the magic to control the Everfree Forest ended up dissipating and allowed the forest to grow. You were sending in changelings to fight living trees and vines, and other dark creatures that don't care about your guns and war tactics.

Ya know, this is pretty much all lore friendly. And yes, that would be lore friendly for a TV show aimed at little girls. For as much glitter and sparkles that show had, it also showed everyone getting their hooves dirty in war, betrayal, mind control, politics, strange political relationships (cough Fluttershy and Discord cough), fascism, stereotypes and legit racism, monarchy vs democracy, curses, and tons of DBZ lasers and fights and nightmare fuel... all powered by the magic of friendship. Oh, and the exploding top half glass of chocolate milk or Rarity in denim. For a TV show it certainly was ahead of it's time, and gave the franchise a dose of actual feminism and equality, not the man hating misandrists we see today (seriously, one scene famously showed a husband javelining his exhausted wife into the BBEG, while another husband changed diapers _with his mouth_ as the wife prepped for the journey. It was actual supporting each other, not a battle of the sexes.)

Hi Stakuyi, I have a challenge. Take advantage of Fascist percent to expand as the US and still be democratic. Basically be at 30% fascism to get to the war goals area and expand. Then once you've expanded enough, ban fascism and head towards the giant awakens.
Idea: Destroy the NCR on the fallout mod as The Burrows faction that i forgot the name of.
Basically, in my mlp lore interpretation, ponies are kinda demi-gods because they have friendship and guts and magic, and alicorns are gods cuz they have that but x100
it's like My Little Pony, but the Friendship has been murdered and the magic has now been turned lethal.
As an Equestria at War dev, I would recommend playing Hellquill if you enjoy genocide so much, specifically the "Reformisten" path.
As for countries that you should stay away from, please do not play Stalliongrad or the Dread League. Both of these countries are exceedingly outdated and of poor quality, and do not reflect the high standards we set for ourselves in our newer countries.
