Staind - So Far Away - Composer Reaction | The Decomposer Lounge | The Pure Listener FTW!
Aaron Lewis got me through some tough times, that's for sure.
I feel you
Aye Brotha
Wow does Aaron Lewis make some good music.
Absolutely...
Ditto buddy
Still think Staind are massively underrated. Such great song writers. They deserve more credit.
Agreed!
They are back on tour and I couldn't be happier
They get SO MUCH UNDESERVED HATE!! Always LOVED Staind since back in ‘98ish when I used to hear them on WAAF in Boston before they got BIG!!
As far as a band Staind is one of those that shaped my high school years, but now as an adult I fully appreciate Aaron Lewis' vocal abilities just as much as the fond memories attached to their music.
Same. The Aaron's career seems to match the style of my life.
Other Staind songs that were big hits that really show off his voice are "It's Been Awhile" and "Epiphany"
Epiphany is such a wonderful song💖🔥
Break the Cycle was my jam in my preteen years lol. It's Been Awhile is probably my least favorite song on it though. I always loved Suffer, Waste, and Safe Place. I bought that and SOAD Toxicity at the Super Target by my parents house when they still had CDs.
"Right here" !!!
Outside will always be that one for me
Epiphany is amazing to sing
Stained spoke to me. "All the mistakes that one life contains. They all finally start to go away".
Mudshovel was their "break out hit" and sounds completely different to this song.
Mudshovel, Just Go, Raw...really anything off of Dysfunction would be great!
@@jakegomt Crawl.
By far one of the most underrated vocalists of their heyday. What's equally amazing is how his solo live versions of Staind material are just different enough to stand on their own but not far enough to completely undo any affinity I have for the original recordings while also creating a seperate track that I can enjoy every bit as much.
I noticed a lot of my all time favorite songs are waltz time. Goo Goo Dolls - Iris is another good one
Aloha! Staind, more from the soundtrack of life! Dysfunction and Break The Cycle CD's were staples for many years and so many great songs. Great pick again my friend...
"Fade" is a great song and one of my favourites from them
One of my favorites too
Oh hell yeah, fade is my fave of theirs
Man fade is ....
To this day since mid 2000s this is my all time favorite song. This song just hits the feels musically and lyrical.
If I ever get to meet Aaron, I owe him a hug, a beer, and a thanks from the bottom of my heart.
Aaron Lewis is totally underrated as is Staind. “Come Again” is one of my favorites as is their cover of “Sober” . Great reaction 💜
Completely agree. Hes got a great voice but the problem is he's spent the past decade seemingly trying to make sure everyone knows he's just a bit of a dick!
@@DPW864 last I heard he had gone down the country music route
I was just thinking the other day that Geebz should do a Staind song, and here it is. Awwwright!
Aaron Lewis has one of those voices that just hits me hard every time, my favorite is Aaron’s cover of Black by Pearl Jam.
Staind is awesome. Their album Tormented is one of my fav albums of all time
I am so glad you reviewed this song. It's one of my favorites. I love your work, and it really gives me insight from a producer's perspective as a musician with the approach to songwriting. Please for the love of God keep reviewing the hits of alternative music from this era which is sooooooo underrated.
I'm not the biggest country fan, but I have continued to follow Aaron Lewis' career in country music. He's just so talented.
same here
I totaly forgot about staind! It made me remember about another band I used to hear back then , Cold
Break the Cycle and 13 Ways To Bleed On Stage are probably two of the most important albums I ever owned.
Great staind song for you to check out is Mudshovel! It’s really a heavier and different change of pace compared to this
That was such a great tour - the energy was amazing
Mudshovel. Suffocate. OH. MY GOD. I think growing up on the east coast, hearing these guys early, and knowing guitarists cut from the same cloth as Mushok... drop tuned, east coast guitarists surrounded by the early stages of the opioid epidemic, growing up in the dilapidated towns that NAFTA sucked the good jobs away from... captured some ill shit; northeast version of the delta blues. My first mosh pit I was so wasted my buddy had to watch out for me.. .and he was a very large white boy from the trailers. I remember handing my glasses off, and a few songs later watching him stiff arm some boot-stepper that was stomping right at me (I'm not white, if that helps with the story). My buddy looked at me, told me to get the eff back out there as other brothers in the pit grabbed my shoulders and pulled me back in. God, those were the days.
As other comments say, 'Mudshovel' is a great choice to show off Aaron's raw power. But I'd like to add 'Zoe Jane' to demonstrate his ability to sing softly - which contrary to most people's perceptions - is incredibly difficult to do well.
So far away shows both imo. The soft and hard. No screaming though but his rasp is in it.
"Staind - It's Been A While" is a must follow-up for this band. EDIT: there are a lot of curse words in this song so watch out for it, may not be appropriate.
Thanks for listening to Staind. Some awesome songs that show off their different sides:
- Spleen
- Fade
- Epiphany
- Warm Safe Place
- How About You
- Fill Me Up
- Schizophrenic Conversations
- Please
- King of All Excuses
- The Bottom
“Please” is so underrated. It has some of the most personal anger ever put to a song
If I remember correctly (it's been a long time since I read this) Aaron Lewis went to Hawaii to write for this album to give him a different environment to draw inspiration from.
There's so many great songs by Staind but il list a couple from each album that I really love. First major debut album is called dysfunction and my two favorite songs on that album are called home which was a single and the other one is called crawl which was not. Their second album break the cycle was their most successful album to date. That's the album with it's been awhile which was their biggest hit to date. That's an amazing song but my two favorites of the album is called fade and warm safe place. The next album which is what so far away is off of it is called 14 Shades of Grey. My two favorite songs on that album are called Layne which is dedicated to Layne Staley of Alice in Chains and the other one I really like is called price to pay.
They're fourth album is called chapter 5 because it is technically their 5th album but their first one wasn't a major release so only about a thousand copies were made so technically it's their 5th. My favorites off of this album is schizophrenic conversations and devil . The next album is called the illusion of progress. My favorites off of this album are called the corner and believe. The last album to date is self titled called staind.
My favorites are called failing and something to remind you which is just Aaron's voice and a guitar. A beautiful song. I know you're a busy man and doubt you will get the chance to read any of this but I just wanted to say thank you so much for putting Staind on your channel I've been a pain in the butt I'm sure because almost every comment I say great job I love your channel by the way could you please do staind. LOL so thank you thank you thank you from Massachusetts and God bless!! All right😁
Dysfunction- Suffocate and Crawl and Spleen
Break The Cycle- Change and Fade
14 shades- Zoe Jane, Fill me Up, Blow Away
Chapter V- Everything Changes and Run Away
The Illusion... - Save Me and The Way I Am
Self Tiled- Throw it all away and Eyes Wide Open
Personally I prefer heavy Staind over soft Staind but I love all Staind.
I feel that self titled is under appreciated sooo much and it’s one of their best albums next to Dysfunction. I can’t wait for new Staind in 2022
I feel the same way! I love all staind but the emotion in the heavy songs is unmatched
I mean, their first album was Tormented. Dysfunction was the second, but...
This song was part of our wedding music's soundscape.
My wife and I had our first dance to this very song.
Brings back so many memories from high school.
As much as I loved Staind going back to Dysfunction, this was my favorite song and my favorite album. A lot of the older songs were great but they were produced by the pain Aaron was going through with drugs and depression and a hard life. 14 Shades of Gray was like him reaching that point where he could accept his past but also learn to be happy with his present life. The tone of the songs got a little brighter as he sang about his wife and his daughter. I love most of the older, harder stuff, but I also love it when you can hear someone's life transitions in their music.
I can’t believe in all the times I’ve listened to this song it never hit me that it’s 3/4 timing. Haha!! Thank you for pointing that out.
Staind was one of the reasons I picked up my guitar and pulled off the hard barre chords. Aaron influence my lyrics/poems in my high school years. I always try to incorporate some melody in my rhythm playing like what Mike Mushok does in his guitar playing.
Definitely do one from Break the Cycle next - "It's Been a While", "For You", "Open Your Eyes", "Fade", "Outside", "Epiphany" lots of variability in the moods for those songs.
it was a good time back when staind was on the radio
True. I remember that back in the day
This song always reminds me of the times when my husband went on deployments and coming back home.
Litterally any song from Staind is great. They are one of the few bands, if not the only band, that I can sit and listen to every single song they ever made and enjoy every last second of them all.
Ah, i love Staind so much!!!!
All right!! A Staind song that I love is "It's Been a While". I highly recommend it.
"For You" is my favorite song by them
Wow... Cruising around in the pickup in high school just came flooding back...
My All Time Favorite Band, STAIND! 🤘🤘🤘
Alright!!!!! My husband and I really enjoy everything. We love you energy and you have taught us so much about music. We listen to it differently now. Thank you!!!!
LOVE you are doing the soundtrack of my life!!!
Love this song, it takes me back listening to it with my dad in the ol 97 firebird. He had this album in there. ❤
I strongly recommend "Nothing left to say" by Staind. The vocals are phenomenal!
Staind's Live From Mohegan Sun "Something To Remind You" may be the greatest live acoustic song ever. I'd like to hear your reaction to this song. Thank you for playing this.
Staind has carried me into this decade. I may have found a new taste of music since then, but I didn't know about them until 2011, then I couldn't get more excited about exploring everything they had to offer since. They are one of those bands that seem to NEVER miss. It's so emotionaly relatable, even if I'm not within the demographic. If I ever get married, I'm having one of their songs play at my wedding, that's how attached I've become, even if I'm not longer a regular listener anymore. We need more Staind representation!
So, some songs to check out. People mostly go for the other hits, like Mudshovel, It's Been A While, Outside, For You, Right Here, Something to Remind You, etc. While you're getting those requests, here's some that hit me: Tangled Up In You (what I said would be my wedding song), Epiphany, Zoe Jane, The Bottom, The Corner, Falling, Failing, Lost Along the Way, Reply, The Devil, Home, Tonight, How About You, and there's even a few secret songs you'll only find on UA-cam that I'll come back and comment on...
Something Like Me and Let it Out were the two I'm thinking of and I know of a third as well, but what I'm trying to say is while they're not particularly the best in anything except how well they capture you with emotions. Wether I'm raging to King of All Excuses, or I'm looking back on my life and I feel like Everything Changes, or if I feel alone, I turn on Schizophrenic Conversations, so to me whatever emotions you're going through, they have something for you, and I love that SO much
This song is great once you can relate.
This song live was the most beautiful moment in my 40 plus years of concert going.
I went to school with Aaron and he has done this at school talent shows way before this! He even recorded some of his country music at my friends studio
Alohaaaa. Dude it's never too much! We are here cause we enjoy you and have enjoyed you. Why would we want less!? Great stuff, I actually make this a part of my daily routine in the morning! So please do not stop or trim your content. Thank you for your knowledge
I’m from WMass where they are from the drummers mother was my 5th grade teacher and my brother was in HS band with him. Saw them in clubs and bars in Springfield before they made it big. Go to the tormented album. Totally different sound.
Sea Sick by Silversun Pickups please. Love the swaying feeling.
What about "Lazy Eye", "Panic Switch" or "Nightlife"? I love them, truly peculiar blending of atmosphere and hard-hitting rock
Something to Remind You is my favorite Staind track. Home is another one that I like that is more off the beaten path.
Ah man, this one brings me back to my college days.
ALRIIIIGHT
Love your channel, bro. Keep em comin.
I’m having vivid flashbacks haha I had completely forgot about this song. Many a mile aggressively teen driving on backroads jammin
massively underrated Band
Staind has at least 10 great songs that i can listen to any day of the year
Staind- Suffocate
The entire Dysfunction and Self Titled albums are masterpieces
This was their first song I can recall hearing and it impressed from a technical standpoint. Just a super clean and well composed song.
the 2nd song I can recognize the 3/4 time signature. wowwwww I didn’t even notice
I’m glad you got to listen to this song, because it is one of the greatest songs of modern time hands down. I am a very picky music person and it blows me away even after listening 5,000 times. Incredible!
As a drummer for over 30 years, I totally agree with the heartbeat...back bone...aka time keeper!!
Awwwright ❤️
Decompose their greatest song "This is Beetle (Bad as Can)".
Sup sup!🤙 First time listen to Staind. Very cool. This track has some cool musical attributes to it.
I haven't heard this song in a long time.
In fact, this song always brings me back to... Smallville !
Loved Staind in high school (early 00s). But I really only got into their album Break the Cycle. The song It's Been Awhile was their smash hit but I would recommend just about anything else from that album as that is probably the softest song on it. They actually rock out pretty hard. I think their lead singer is now a solo country musician.
Me being an addict. Song hits so fucking hard.
Mudshovel & outside are fantastic..awwwhright
Awwwright!
Awwright.. 2 of my favorite songs in 1 day. Seen Staind open for KoRn in 99 on the issues tour. I play & write music so to me this channel is just awesome. 2 songs to check out. 1.. Home. 2.. Believe.. Thanks for all you do !!
Ps.. Im "LIKE" 100 🎸😎
"The corner" has always been a favorite of mine, you should definitely give it a listen 👂👂
Zoe Jane by Staind! Beautiful song, written by Aaron to his daughter ❤️
A.R.Rahman - Bombay Theme ( the most beautifully haunting theme I've heard !)
ELDER. For an elder. Aloha. Thank you geebz. !!!
Alllllright
If you want a real experience of Aaron Lewis (vocalist), Staind does a bunch of really amazing acoustic sets. They actually do a live acoustic cover of Sober from Tool, and Nutshell from Alice in Chains.
His version of Black is right up there too
AWWWRIGHT LOL thank you for being you and continuing to do these breakdowns. I've listened to several songs that were out of my scope and I'd never heard before thanks to you.
A few folks have said it already but I'd absolutely recommend Staind's "Epiphany" as well, very different stripped-down vibe.
ALRIGHT!!
Gotta do Mudshovel it displays the range and some good ol fashioned gutterals Aaron Lewis has 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙I love Staind and I heard they're working on a new album 👍🔥🔥🔥🔥
Live show May 1st!
I believe “Epiphony” is the song for you my friend.
Awesome.. I love his voice.. he is probably the 4rd best living vocalist in the US right now.
Staind - Fill Me Up ... that song is great at the end
AWWWRIGHT!
Thanks for doing this one, it's one of my favorites. I didn't realize it was in 3/4, and I somehow didn't even notice the strings until this listen with you. When you got near the end of the song, at what I call the "climax" (feel free to let me know the real term for it!) and you smiled, I smiled too, and got a couple tears in my eyes. I don't know what it is, it just feels so awesome to see someone else enjoying something I've enjoyed for so long. If I had to suggest a song, it would be Falling Down. For a lot of people, Staind's appeal is their lyrics but I feel like Falling Down has some really interesting musical elements to it as well. It does have one or two curse words in it, if you're not able to do those. The hubby says Just Go would be his pick (also a bit of cursing).
Awwright!!!
If you want a complete 180 from this song, react to the songs Spleen or Eyes wide open
Thank you for doing Staind. They were very impactful to the soundtrack of my life being a teenager in the 90’s. Aaron Lewis is one of my favorite vocalist of all time. The pain in his voice is just so good. I recommend song from their MTV Unplugged set. It’s a classic.
I’m gonna say it...
Check out “A Little Piece of Heaven” by Avenged Sevenfold.
Awwww right
Love the bridge in this song. Also off my favorite album of theirs. 14 Shades Of Gray
Around the 6-minute mark As aaron sings "this is the smile" you make a big smile. You said you never heard it before so the coincidence is pretty cool. Thanks again :-)
man i love this song, heavy nostalgia there for me
Just found out Staind is making a comeback POGGERS
A few more tracks to check out
Me
Epiphany
Mudshovel
Fade
As a bonus, Aaron featured in a track with the band Cold that's definitely worth a listen! Song is called Bleed.
Cold is a really great band, too!
As a young kid, legend has it from my parents that besides Sad But True by Metallica, this was the first song I ever truly heard on this Earth. I’m not ashamed to be the person I am today😂
I'm a huge 90's music fan and a huge fan of the MTV Unplugged's, and to be honest the Staind Unplugged is my absolute favorite. If you are ever looking for some easy listening, check it out. Much different from the the produced stuff, yet soooo great!
videoreaction category, my favorite band, my favorite song, uploaded on my birthday... what more can I ask for??
Awrightttttttttt, actually one of the only channels I listen to the end.... still waiting for that Isis baby, any song would do.. ..... to truly get a personal experience it is actually key to listen to the song with out focusing on the lyrics. You shape feelings and emotions and memories, then you insert the lyrics and they can become more personal.. tools album lateralus is great for that, lyrics are just vague enough that you can make it your own.
Aaron Lewis has such an amazing voice! Great react to a great song!
О,my God!I love this song!!!😍Summer 2003,Syberia and Staind😀😍✌👍
