  • Want to be an Alpine farmer and cheesemaker?
    Every summer a few fortunate Alpenwild guests have the exclusive opportunity to visit Senntum Michel and live the life of an Alpine farmer and cheesemaker. In these high meadows above Grindelwald, you gaze out over the peaks of the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungfrau. You’ll share those views with 27 dairy cows, as well as heifers, calves, goats, and chicken. And you’ll participate in making traditional alp cheese over an open fire.
    There are two ways to enjoy this unforgettable and traditional alpine experience-either as a morning visit or on an overnight stay.
    You’ll experience first-hand the art of making cheese on the alp and the time-honored traditions of being an Alpine farmer and cheesemaker. You’ll enjoy a wonderful farm breakfast-fresh bread from the oven, Alpine butter, various cheeses, yogurt, homemade jams, coffee, tea and fresh milk-all in an unforgettable setting. After breakfast, you’ll visit the centuries-old cheese huts where the cheese is aged to perfection. Most Alpenwild guided tours in the Jungfrau Region include a morning at Senntum Michel.

    This is incredible, utterly beautiful! Here is Canada my family and I are learning the art and beauty of making artisan cheeses with milk from our goats. Watching your milking and cheese-making operation - plus the sheer joy and contentment that goes along with this type of traditional life-style - is so inspiring! Keep preserving this amazing gift and encouraging others! Thank you for sharing!!

    Beautiful that you offer these accomodations.. I have visited grindelwald before. I am arriving from the u.s. in october 2019 and would love to experience the alpine and overnight stay. I have no time limit and as andrea said it is something that has called me my whole life. I live in the u.s. but have always dreamed of coming back to eroupe to live. I was a military daughter born in stuttgard. My mother was born in napoli . I have the opportunity and cannot pass up the dream of possibly living in eroupe. A stay in the alpine working with farmers sounds like a perfect start to my journey.

      The overnight stay is an unforgettable experience. But the Alpine farming season is short--just late June to mid-September. Then the cows come down from their summer on the alp and live in the valley until summer comes again.

    Contrast the lovely way the cows are treated, with many horrific conditions these gentle animals are subjected to in American dairies & slaughterhouses.... this video made me cry.

    • @dougamclean
      @dougamclean 6 років тому +2

      Denise Smith amazing how many people make such comments and have likely never even visited a dairy farm. Farmers have understood for generations that low stress leads to better milk production..dairy cows in this country are fed well, bedded cleanly and comfortably, health maintained, and as happy as any cow you see in this video! Just because they don't have this lovely Alpine vista, and they're milked by machine instead of the loving hands doesn't mean anything! Get educated..then get an opinion. (PS. This is not a discussion about slaughter animals..that is another video and discussion).

      It is beautiful. But if you ever end up staying a summer at an Alp, you'll see that it won't be tension free at all. There will be injuries to you and your animals. There will be tensions with the few people you share the Alp with. Howerver much you want to romanticice it, it's still hard work and surely won't be relaxed. It's very beautiful and pure though. It's one of the greatest experiences i'f ever had.

    • @Alpenwild

      Part of the way they sustain the farm is by agrotourism, so you pay to visit, eat, and enjoy the serene mountains. However, there are lots of farms in Switzerland that do work exchange programs if you are interested in learning the trade: wwoof.ch/
