Thank you for checking it out 🤟🏼
The nerd in me really enjoys these gear videos! I would love to see you talk about each of your compressors in some videos and hear some examples. Thanks!
Hi ! Thank you for the video. I see on the website "32/34 I/O, does that mean that 1 and 2 are separate from the monitor out, meaning I can use truly 1 to 32 ?
Nice vid! Hey do you use the "Direct" or the "Line" for the stereo bus when you go back to the DAW from your analog chain?
Requesting more videos of your new Ernie Ball Fluffster. They need to produce as your signature model! Let’s go EB!!
Nice video and good info.
Question please.
Will the Orion Gen 4 model handle 32 I/O (via the D-Sub connectors) when using the USB connector to your DAW? (I know the Gen 3 model can only do 24 via USB)...
I need 32 outputs (via analog D-Sub) to my Analog mixer (for mixdowns) and I wanted to confirm it will absolutely handle 32 D-Sub Outputs to my analog mixer. Thanks in advance. Well done...

Do I need external preamp to recording with Orien? or can I record just using it?
Nice video man, can this record 32 simultaneous analog channels?
are. you running a patch bay with your outboard gear? I have logic as well and I have some nice pieces of hardware ( tube tech cl1b/neve spx/mc77/api5500/8803/obsidian etc.. and I just bought the gen 4. I was running an Apollo setup and it worked fine but I wanted 32 I/o in one box and I heard the converters are really nice on this piece. Set up has been a complete nightmare - I haven't been able to make or mix any music in almost a week because I can't figure this thing out. help!!
Is the recreating tone series ever coming back? I miss those. I really want a recreation of Ghost's live tone, there's no one on youtube who managed to get that yet
So now how do you get the latency free effects for monitoring?
Is the summing with the integrated mixers done digital or analog?
I’ve been using a Lynx Aurora 16VT forever, but I keep my eye on these. I’d have to buy 16 more channels of outboard, tho, heh. Thanks for this vid, I’m definitely intrigued.
I just got my Orion Gen4 today, while at my workplace im on an Aurora 16 & Aurora n24 for years now. Its gonna be some weeks before the Orion will be implemented in my own studio but if i remember it then i can give you a comparison :)
I waited for like 7 or 8 months for Antelope to bring this out so I could buy 2 of them for my tracking console and I finally gave up on it and bought the Galaxy 64 which has 2 FPGAs and 12 DSP. So the Galaxy still has the synergy core effects and I think because the Galaxy 32 and the Orion gen 4 are so similar in i/o it makes since to sell the Orion with no effect for less money if you just need 32 to 128 channels of i/o. I personally like the synergy core effects during tracking since I don't have to patch in a compressor or and extra EQ if I need it during tracking. But I want the Orion gen 4 and I could have bought 4 of them for the price of the Galaxy 64.
Wondering about me getting the Gen 4 Version as i allready feel so used to all of it withing the Gen3 Version. The loss of the second ADAT I/O is what i cannot understand... people running @96kHz are left with only 2 additional Stereo In/Out options, where as the "old" offered 4 Stereo In/out (@96kHz). I will most likely fall to antelopes tricks to sell old wine in new tubes :) Thank you anyway for pointing out all those details about the software anyway!
Question, someone posted that the highest Buffer Size using thunderbolt and 128 channels is 512, is this true? he argument that Gen 3 is able to get 1024 because is able to use 64 channels, can you confirm this? what is the maximum Buffer Size using 128 channels via thunderbolt? I understant using usb connections there is not problems. Regards
Are the converters between the orion synergy core and the antelope orion 32+ gen 4 are the same ? Thank you
Pretty sure the Gen 4 are newer converters judging by the increased dynamic range
@@RiffsAndBeards Thank you fofr your response =)
The sound is amazing on this - I just got it but it keeps crashing and I'm unable to install the unified driver for the thunderbolt connection. so essentially I have 32 ins and only 24 outs available... lol. I've tried the recovery mode option they recommend on their site and it just doesn't seem to work for me... and their customer service is shotty... I just bought a brand new Mac Studio M2 max - so there should be zero issues...The absolute worst experience I've personally had making music. Extremely frustrating. You.wouldn't be willing to help me out would you?
I recently bought the gen3 but I'm returning it due to similar issues. The TB connection drops out a dozen or more times per day. It usually seems to happen when there's something shifty happening in another app or the OS or hardware. If Pro tools gives an error message, Orion is gone. If Sphere loses an input, Orion is gone. If a screensaver starts, Orion is gone. If an external hard drive is disconnected, Orion is gone. Unplugging the TB cable and re connecting always fixes it. Basically the most over-sensitive, flaky drivers I've EVER encountered in 30 years of working with computer audio. I'm going to take a chance with the Gen 4 (will be here next week) and hoping for a better experience with the new Antelope software and a TB3 connection...we shall see!
is Antelope Audio better than UA? I'm about to upgrade my interface. I've always thought as UA as the Cadillac working with Apple.
It is for sure. I've been using ua with their plug-ins for over 12 years and I just can't see trying anything else. It's as good as it gets. The uad plug-ins alone make it a no brainer for many of us. I'm actually still using the firewire 16 with an older Mac running El capiton lol. Still runs like a champ. If I upgrade to the newer version,I'm pretty sure I'd have to by a new Mac as well so till then, if it ain't broke don't fix it type of thinking here. Honestly I'm sure the newer ones would be an improvement in certain instances but the old ones (about 12 years I've had it) are so good still I swear by ua
I have an Antelope Orion Studio Synergy Core and compared to the Apollo X8p, it beats the Apollo on basically every level. More processing power, more effects included, more I/O, better converters (although I haven't measured them, but on a listening test I prefer the Orion), and on a lower price..I don't know for the smaller interfaces but the Orion is the best in the game imo.
I bought an Orion 32+ Gen3 like two months before this came out, for effectively the same price 😭 Oh well, I'm loving it anyway, though for the Gen4, the screen, dial, and software all look like they would be nice improvements.
SAME!!!
Oh well. I still don't really know how to use it as a mastering tool. Additionally it can't do DC coupling. I honestly feel a bit "hosed" with the Gen 3.
The gen 3 is great! You have the plugins for monitoring, and you can still set the buffer to 1024 samples, the gen 4 just goes to 512!!! 🤦🏻♂️ so the gen 3 is much better at this moment…
I own a Aurura n 16 ch I need more chanels. I'm trading my Lynx wwhat do you think. Thank you.
Way too much interface for me but really cool to see.
It’s ALOT of interface😂
It's way too much for most anybody. Including fluffernutter
how does this interface compare to RME as far as sound Quality
Both sound great! RME is much more stable… I’ve had Antelope and had too much trouble… I love the sound and the features but not the control panel, (drivers) 🥺
Why only 24ch in&&outs are visible in my daw?????
Gotta use a Thunderbolt cable not a USBC
Initially I just loved the specs on this unit. BUT....just heard on another review that the fact that you have 128 I/O limits the DAW buffer size to max 512. That's absolutely 100% a deal breaker. What on earth are they thinking ??? 😞....
On the Gen 4? I’m running my buffer at 128 here.
@@RiffsAndBeardsHmmm well the question was to be able to run 1024 buffer size.
I’m glad I didn’t pull the trigger! 🤦🏻♂️
The real savings with antelope is that you don't need a patch bay. the flock audio patch is almost as much as this thing (3100) for the same number of channels. granted with a patch bay you can route stuff so there's only one conversion taking place, but with converters like antelope makes it's not gonna be noticeable.
the only downside i've heard about antelope is that the software and hardware isn't reliable. hopefully they've fixed a bunch of that with this update.
I'm kinda sad they are ditching the synergy stuff though. it was good to have competition with universal audio. Though to be fair the samples i've heard of most of the plugins were meh. I wonder if this means that'll also be leaving the mic emulation market too. Those were pretty good from the samples i heard.
"software and hardware isn't reliable" That's an absolute deal breaker for any gear especially an interface.
@@unitedsouthenterprisesllc for many it is, but others don’t experience the issues. And when it works I hear they are super great interfaces. Just a history of lemons or something. I don’t hear anything bad about their customer service though. Up to the individual and what they value.
Ever had any bad customer service or hardware issues with yours? I feel like that's common complaint for Antelope.
That def was a thing a few years ago with the prior generations for sure. I have had zero issues with my gen 4 so far.
@@RiffsAndBeards Awesome to hear brother 💪
Old intro song was better doe
"My friends call me Fluff" - no one calls him Fluff.
I use Linux and I'm stubborn.... I can only support interfaces that have a web based graphical interface like Motu seem to have... shame the Focusrite above 2i2 and most other interfaces have O.S specific software like this... it will always render itself obsolete in the years to come unless 3rd party apps become available which is very wishy washy...
No DSp and no sample rate conversion... Sounds like the gen 4 is a downgrade...
boring..more tubey gear please 😋🎸
But if I don’t have the interface I can’t record the audio for the other stuff tho
@@RiffsAndBeards ok that is an argument for sure or maybe they should just add a tube in the next version even if it is just for glowing 😂 👍
Do not advertise bad interfaces or I gonna report it to UA-cam… Antelope interfaces has a lot of problems and even Sweetwater dropped it. @Riff, Bears&Gear
