1970... summer and Mungo Jerry on the radio... when people were laid back, relaxed, not offended by every little thing.... we had fun, we had a laugh and quirky songs like this just lifted you
This was the best hit it was classic ragtime.ten out of ten . The louder it was on am radio the better it was . True classic. My parents even loved it .every .one loved it
..... they even played it on country it was every station. And it didn't fade .it's great to this day .a true hit that is timeless.
Blowing in that jug and a perfect summer song. Brings back memories.
It's impossible to not know this song.
and 54 years on... it's still a great tune
In the Summer Time went to No1 in 12 countries, no3 in the US
Mungo Jerry are a British rock band from the 70's. "In The Summertime" was their biggest hit. I remember this fun catchy tune & it brings back good memories. They had some other songs mostly popular in the UK such as "Baby Jump", "Lady Rose", "Alright, Alright, Alright", "You Don't Have To Be In The Army To Fight In The War" etc.
Its Mutton Chops haha Love you ladies
More like Mutant Chops...... one of the Comic book time travel movies had a secretary describe one of the hero's as having facial hair like Mungo Jerry, that is most likely where she's remembering the name from.
Some people called them thigh pads
The sound of summer from my childhood, wonderful! Cheers guys.
My new game is to guess how many seconds it'll take before Donna recognizes the currant song, lol. I remember this song from back when it was a hit in 1970, I was nine years old at the time, listening to a little hand held transistor radio.
By the way, those side burns are called 'Mutton Chops'.
I was also 9 yo in 1970.
The best mutton chops ever!
Mungo Jerry, British group formed in 1970 in Ashford Middlesex and all the lads had Mutton Chops back then including me along with hair down to my shoulders. Nice to see Lulu back again 🇬🇧
Nothing like having my head shaved at boot camp....and still having my mutton chops 😂
Love this song. Always makes me happy.💯❤️🇮🇹
One to get on a play list for summer BBQ's
Love this song, total classic!!! ❤ Hope the 3 of you are doing great!!
Lulu gets the prize, they are "mutton chops", a facial hair fashion from the 70's, and before. Not many folks wearing them these days. Mungo is a term for reused wool. Oh well. "Have a drink, have a drive, go out and see what you can find." Definitely the 70's.
Mungo Jerry is a character from the guy who made the musical cats
Ray Dorset. Guitar. Paul King Banjo , jug. Colin Earle piano.
Mike Cole Bass.
Great Band.
Mungo jerry is the band name.. Ray Dorset is the singer
Ray Dorset on lead vocals. They did a great cover of The Pushbike Song. Originally recorded by Australian band The Mixtures
mutton chops is correct
Great song listened to mungo jerry growing up in the 70’s in Australia that’s an old apple cider jug thankyou ladies take care God bless
Oh the 70s fashion hehe. Such a fun song. And you ladies are adorable with those cute southern accents
Thank you 🤗
I seen them on my 16th birthday in 1972, it was my first concert they were accompanied by The JSD Band and String Driven Thing. What an evening it was too, on the banks of the River Endrick within the grounds of Buchannan Castle (where Rudolf Hess was held during WW2)
Ray Dorset has Mutton Chops :)
Mutton chops or sideburns as worn by Ray Dorset, British rock band. Thankyou
This song is so upbeat! What I like most is how much fun the band seems to be having...can't help but smile!
Loved this song. I grew up in the '60s. I was 16 when it was new.
Great old song! My cousin and his bride had this playing as they left the church after the ceremony. It got us all in the partying frame of mind. It was a wonderful weekend at the farm!
lol They were having a good ol time. Love Mungo Jerry. Great tune.
Mutton chops. Yep. Lulu hit it right on the head -- the correct word for "sideburns on steroids".
Mungo Jerry was featured in Only Fools & Horses (1983) when Del & Rodney took Grandad to Spain 🇪🇸 as this Classic Tune was playing as they arrived with a series of stills of them clubbing until they go back to the Hotel 🏨 with their dates only to see Grandad asleep 😴 with his false teeth in the Glass 😄😁😆😅🤣😂😎
This is a good example of jug band music from that era. Notice the guy blowing into the jug for a bass effect. Thanks for sharing. I rememer this well.
Excellent!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just a good old jug band.I like Baby Jump and Alright Alright Alright just fun songs.
FYI the piano player here named Colin Earl, and is the older brother of Foghat's drummer Roger Earl.
I had shirts like that.. back then...red and black ones
Sounds as good today as it did 50 years ago
I've heard people say the lyrics "have a drink, have a drive" is not politically correct, but Ray Dorset has always said he never meant alcohol, but a cold drink like ice tea or something. It just never entered his mind at the time when writing the lyrics. I believe him.
Probily illegal lyrics in these times... Just love it!😅 Greetings from Sweden.
Saw them on Worthing Pier, England, in the 70s. Also on the bill was Jimi Hendriks..
😊 ❤️🎵🎸 Jimi _Hendrix_ 🎵❤️🏴🖖
The sideburns are called mutton chops to many years ago but also get called pork chops in some regions, Gotta love them chops! lol the lyrics are just a joke , it’s a bit like Ozzie Ardiles singing “ don’t worry be happy! “
Those "sideburns" are called mutton chops, Lamb chops!! 🤣
Brings back fond memories I was 12 years old. I started playing bass guitar in 72 in the school band. It's a passion I've had for years went on to play in 3 or 4 bands over the years and have quite a collection of instruments. Pride of place is split a 1964 Fender Stratocaster and a 5 string double bass that was made in the late 1800's as an orchestral bass. Underwent a conversion to a 5 string jazz bass in the 70's. Belonged to a guy who was a square dance caller and leader of a 5 piece Jaz band. He played clarinet and double bass. My cousin played keyboards and occasionally I went along and joined in on my electric bass guitar or on a Gretch White Falcon.
When Ralph died I was surprised that he left "Bertha" the 5 string bass to me!
I love watching your 3 generation reaction Lulu is a sweetie and the occasional appearance of her grandfather is great!
The instrument collection now stands at 31!
I don't play much these days but there's an upcoming gig at the end of February.
We run a clay shooting ground and game shoot on our farm. The pheasant season ended last month and we have the Shoot Dinner.
I have some buddies who still play in a band and I'll be joining them on stage.
Toto
Dire Straits
Pink Floyd
The Eagles
Crowded House
And even a couple of Brooks & Dunn numbers are included in the set.
I really enjoy your reactions glad I found your chanel
😊😊😊
PEACE LOVE n HIPPYNESS ✌💖☮
Hey my Friends, react to JOURNEY "Don't stop believin" live in Houston 1981. Iconic song, great live performance with Amazing vocals & super guitare solo. Thanks 💐
Do NOT have a drink and a drive! lol
If you liked this, I think you would love "Something In The Air" by "Thunder Clap Newman". It's another one hit wonder from the same era.
He still looks and sounds the same then singing this song or at least that is how I remember from a documentary about the free Maison
You have witnessed the ancient origins of Beatboxing. 😂
Mungo Jerry's other big hit was a cover version of "The Pushbike Song", originally by Australian band The Mixtures. It's very similar in style to "In The Summertime", but worth a listen if it's your kind of music.
Yeah,I remember this one, pretty good. The lyric is a screaming no no these days.to be fair they well new it and were pokeing some fun. In 70 you could. Will the big sideburns ever return?
I knew the '70s girl would recognize this one right off! 😊
I would like to introduce you to a great Scottish pop rock group “Texas” which started in 1986 and has sold 40 million albums, start with “I Don’t Want a Lover”

the sideburns are called mutton chops... and they were a big thing in the 60s and 70s
weirdly catchy!
I knew the song but didn't know the group's name. I grew up listening to this song on the radio. Thanks again ladies for jogging the old memory!
Have a drink, have a drive!
mutton. Chops.., it was a thing in the late sixties....it was mentioned in Avengers end game when Tony stank and Dap. Went to the base in new jersey.. they asked the lady if it was somebody or mingo jerrt....ha....
Mutton chops. (Mutton being the term for sheep/lamb meat, and chops...a cut of the meat)....they resemble lamb chops.
tub thumping, jug blowing, washboard strumming... down right good summer music, many of the local garage bands covered this song at the school dances, and his style is called Mutton Chops
Back in the day they were called mutton chops here in the United States also I know because I used to wear mine like that Ha ha ha I was 13 years old when this song come out1970Tell me how old I am God bless you all Peace always and Jesus name
Mungo Jerry is a direct descendant of Sasquatch.
Check out the video of him singing in Germany in 2020, he looks so well, it's 54 years since 1970, that dude has some strong hair genes.
Don't forget "the bicycle song" !🙂👍
Mungo is a Scottish name….not common but well known in Scotland…there was a St Mungo 1500 years ago, in the Dark Ages. St Mungo is the patron saint of Glasgow too.Oh, and there is a St Mungo’s Hospital in Harry Potter.
😊 Also, the British actor _Hugh Grant_ - his middle name is 'Mungo'
(Hugh Mungo Grant.😊) ❤
They were generally called mutton chops. I haven't heard the term in recent times though.
Pure happy music man! I liked their songs mighty man also lady rose and the song have a whiff on me. Thesr are also happy making songs.
Ray Dorset - singer.
I guess I can take this off my "to be requested" list. And Lulu, people wore the mesh shirts without the undershirts.
They be "mutton chops" , kiddoes. Here in Albion, anyway.
Go to dance and you bounce up and down all the while laughing and singing along.
Mutton chops here in the US mid Atlantic corridor also.

Glad you enjoy it!
"Mungo Jerry" was mentioned in "Avengers Endgame".
I always liked Mungo Jerry doing ‘Maggie’. Questionable lyrics but they made me laugh.
Per Dagmar just below, but also The Bicycle Song.
I personally liked the voicing of the drum sounds.
Those sideburns were mutton chops.
I feel for ya, Donna. I think I've forgotten more good music than I remember.
We called them pork chop side Burns.. Mike Nesmith of the Monkees had them but not that big.
What a feel good tu eh?
Well done😊
Fun fact: They thought the song was too short. That's why they copy/pasted the song; the second part is exactly the same as the first. So you listened to the same song twice.
thats wolfman jack on piano.
Mutton Chops is the same cut as pork chops but from a sheep rather than a pig.
The best sideburns ever 😂
As soon as the music started you could see that you all knew it . .
Lulu . My dad called them mutton chops . . .
Great reaction as usuall . .
Till the next time . . .
Take care ladys . . 💐🍻🙏🇳🇿
If you watched The Avengers Endgame, there is a reference to Mungo Jerry when Stark and Cap are on the military base to get Pym Particles. When Stark sticks out and they know he shouldn't be there, they ask the secretary what he looked like, and she said he had a Mungo Jerry sideburns. lol
Yes, they were 'mutton chops' sideburns. This song may have been used in an anti-drink-driving campaign. Quite some time after it's release by a few years.
If you liked Mungo Jerry you might like The Wurzels, I've got a brand new combine harvester was their biggest hit or the Fiddlers Dram song Day Trip to Bangor (Didn't We Have a Lovely Time).
I had many copies of this song
If you like his chops, look for a picture of General Ambrose Burnside. Not a great general but he could style.
Kathy!
Yep LULU mutton chops.
This song was in the sixties
Another name for them is 'Bugger's Grips'.
