Jordan's way of emoting as he sings, completely devoid of self-consciousness or irony, definitely feels like Orpheus. Like, that's a Muse's son right there.
I loved Reeve Carney so much for the naivety in his voice singing the Epics. But there is so much depth in how Jordan sings this. Going between such a tender falsetto that portrays so much hurt as if his Orpheus lived it (like we are hearing him draw parallels from his relationship with Eurydice to Hades and Persephone's relationship) to transition into the belt with such raw, powerful emotion behind it. Watching his face have those realisations in real time, like we can see him reacting to the Muses telling him a story only he can see. I couldn't have jumped on getting tickets to the Australian tour any faster because I can't wait to see it done by Aussies and hear it in my own accent.
Yeah! Reeve will always be my favorite, and I love how powerful is falsetto is. But damn, I do enjoy how Jordan does this song. When he was first cast I was like "this dude is WAY too cool to portray Opheus well" but wow he proved me wrong.
I saw Reeve Carney in Hadestown NYC a couple of years ago, then saw a new cast in Toronto and I held them to the standard I saw when I watched the NYC cast but in general I think I just love the way different actors bring their own thing to the roles!
i was able to witness jordan in hadestown last december. his singing literally brought me to tears. a lot of people can sing well and hit the notes but only a few people can actually move you with their talent. definitely one of the most talented performers in this lifetime 👏🏼

But after I had heard Jordan in the role here on UA-cam, I just knew I *needed* to see him in it... I've seen him twice now. Songs which, I'm sorry to say, left me relatively unmoved ("relative" for Hadestown ;P) as sung by the previous Orpheus actors - Epic III being among them - just completely grabbed me in Jordan's renditions. This made me laugh so hard but I completely agree. I’ve watched this video wayyyy too many times considering I only started listening to hadestown like a week ago
I saw it live recently and the syncopation was similar in the live production. I think it's more a stylistic choice than a mistake. It's jarring when you know the studio album really well, but I think it helps give the performance more character! It's not as rigid, and it's a nice nod to the folk inspiration/origins of Hadestown, which frequently has a syncopated style like this.
