Great review! Very few reviewers touch on a bench’s stability but in my opinion it is the most important factor for an incline bench. I ordered the Ab-2 a month ago and am patiently waiting for it to arrive. I’m glad I ordered it watching your review! I live in Canada and I was already placing a large order with rogue so it only ended up being about $300 CAD more then the rep bench.
@@TheKurtlocker Luckily I've managed to find a used one in mint condition locally so I'm only paying around a 3rd of what they cost over here in the UK, the Mrs would murder me if I spent £1,200 on a bench 😂.
Awesome review as always!!! AB-3 ordered and waiting impatiently. No brainer for me ROGUE all the way. Its like comparing my Wrangler to a Bronco , the Bronco is cute , but the Wrangler is a beast. NO comparison lol
Thank you for producing this video. It answered a question I had as I was placing my order with Rogue. I owned the Zero gap with the foot attachment and in a moment of weakness, sold it. Nothing wrong with it except it is made in China. If you are buying the bench new, strongly consider supporting other United States citizens rather than from China. Now, back to placing my order for the new AB-3.
@@TheKurtlocker The AB-3 arrived last week. It is probably the best bench I have ever used. The quality and utility is unlike anything I have previously owned and I have owned them all.
Here’s the important thing to keep in mind. Is the Rogue over-designed and more stable extremely stable than the REP AB-5000? Yes. But the cost difference is huge. The REP AB-5000 costs $500 and shipping is FREE! The Rogue is $1000 and shipping costs an additional $250. For a home gym, this makes no sense. A $1250 price tag pays for a luxury gym for a year
I really do agree with the price breakdown you’re putting out here but I would caveat that if someone isn’t necessarily worried about cost, the Rogue bench is a clear winner on all other comparisons. Not by much on some areas, but always better.
Thanks for the comparison. I designed the AB-5000. A few points I would note: 1) The reason for the 3 foot design on the front post is because if the seat is slid all the way forward, it could create a tipping hazard if there was no support underneath. 2) Great suggestion on the rubber feet. We hadn't had that complaint before, but it's a good suggestion to modify the rubber formula and we'll get that to the engineering dept. 3) I'm really surprised you didn't mention the entire reason for the seat-slide function: To remove the seat gap in the flat position. This is a key design element and a huge benefit over the competition. 4) The side-to-side stability of yours is not within spec as far as I can tell. There should be virtually zero side-to-side movement of the backpad. Usual suspect is the few screws at the hinge point not being tight enough. They can be tightened with a hex wrench (allen key). If that doesn't resolve, I'd contact our support. 5) The summary of assuming the pads will wear out quickly, and therefore the Rogue is almost the same total cost of ownership, is a pretty big leap in imagination. While we don't use the pad you have on yours anymore, it looks pretty close to new condition even being a used bench, so it's unclear where that assumption comes from. We have had zero complaints about pad wear on this bench after being out for a couple of years now. Other than that, I'm glad you noted that Rogue has some nicer materials than ours, and ours has some nicer materials than theirs, I just wish the conclusion was based a bit more in fact. I think eliminating the side-to-side movement would alter your perception a lot.
@ryanjm thank you for watching the video. I'm actually excited that you watched and left these comments. Let me try to address them one at a time 1) This makes a lot of sense, I hadn't thought about the fact that the sliding seat pan would have caused a hazard. This seems perfectly designed because I never noticed any tripping hazards. 2) I hope the rubber feet will reduce the bench sliding on wooden platforms. This isn't an issue on stall mat or rubber flooring 3) Maybe I need to revisit my video again, but I could have swore that I covered this. If I missed it, that is a huge foul on my part. Thank you for highlighting the feature. 4) I reached out to customer support and was basically referred to a UA-cam video that Rep Fitness had published that didn't help anything. I responded that the "fix" was ineffective but never heard back. 5) The statement that the bench pad would wear out is fairly accurate IMO. I should have been more specific and focused on the seams being mainly what I was concerned about, not so much actually wearing through the material itself. The new pad material that Rep is selling looks about 10000000% better than what I have and hope to acquire that pad in the future for my bench. Overall I am pleased with the bench. I did feel that I had purchased it so early that I wasn't able to experience the improved design where specs were tighter and bench pads were of better quality but that is just what happens when you buy an early version of a product.
@ ryanjm, since you are involved in the design, are there any plans for the AB-5000 to have the most upright hole drilled for 85 vs 90 degrees and if not do you see any issues with a customer drilling an 85 degree hole?
Great review, some important notes about the Rogue AB-3: The weight is significantly less than the REP 5000 because the stated weight of the rogue bench at 117lb includes the decline foot attachment which is ~24 lbs. so the actual comparison of the benches themselves is 93lb for the rogue and 125* for the REP. Also i’ve heard the wheels are nicer on the rogue, but I have not tried the REP bench. Lastly, when in a flat position the AB-3 has incredible support and stability where the bench meets the frame, in comparison the REP bench has another plastic/rubber coating similar to the feet that is slapped on a metal square tube. Great review, thanks for the content. *the REP 5000 weight is a guess based on REP 5200 stated weight.
Nice review. Very helpful. Price point comparison getting a little bit closer as Rep just increased the cost to $539. Also you need to add the $89 cost for the Rep leg attachment as it is included with the AB-3 total cost.
Yeah I bought it last Monday. I don't mind the price bump. Not too bad of 40 bucks because I seen other companies get greedy on thier price bump like force usa. And still beats the price gauging of resellers. Also they don't charge tax to California residents.
Good point. I was wondering what the current price of the AB-5000 will be when it ever comes in stock. So it ends up being a $300 difference. I am about ready to pull the trigger on the AB-3 now since the AB-5000 restock has been pushed back another 3 weeks. I’ve been waiting since the restock date was mid January so who knows if that will happen either. And at least with rogue I can order now and it’s 14-30 days to ship.
I currently have the Rep ZeroGap but it will be the first thing I upgrade once the rest of the gym is complete. I had to return the first one they sent due to poor quality control (QC). The replacement I have now still has issues but they’re cosmetic so I decided to keep it and upgrade later. The poor QC on this bench has pushed me to Rogue for my power rack and other equipment. I wish you made this video 4 months ago 😭...should have gone with my gut and bought made in ‘Murica the first time.
I’ve got the AB5000 zero gap with upgraded pad. I would suggest contacting them to see if you can upgrade. The new pad has really nice stick and my friends who have tried it say it’s way better than the benches at a commercial gym. It holds me in place really well even doing heavy dumbell pullovers across the middle of the bench.
I was hoping to see the full range of adjustment for the seat, I hate those benches where the seat doesn't come up high enough and you feel like you're sliding off when doing inclines.
I got 2 ZERO-GAPS in my gym. They are definitely a great bench but I’m slowly realizing they are not commercial grade. Thank you for clearing that up. I definitely plan on selling 1 and investing in a rogue one. I’ll keep one rep bench because I absolutely love the ZERO-GAP feature.
I sold my Rep for the rogue bench BUT I also bought an Elite FTS Collegiate 0-90 Bench. Now that is a bench you should look into and is a MUCH better option if you’re looking for a “Zero-Gap” Much happier with these.
Rep is best for value. Most garage gym owners will be more than fine with any Rep bench. Can use the savings on other pieces of equipment. I currently have the AB5200 and the FB5050 wide pad. Both are stellar. Personally I don't do any decline work so the AB5200 is better constructed than the 5000 in my opinion. I didn't need the wide pad flat bench but it is nice to have. Neither bench is *perfect* but meet and exceed all expectations, especially at the price point. For those that simply want Rogue products their benches are superb I'm sure. But they don't bring twice the value for nearly twice the cost IMO.
Any wobble with the 5200? The bench with the brand I have has this little tilt when I lean back with heavier weight and it drives me NUTS!!! I’ve been eyeing the 5200.
@@jasonmckinney3876 none while using it. I regularly high incline press 80-100lb DBs. However if you are standing you can wiggle the backpack while it's in incline position in fairly easily.
I'd like to make a quick update, I bought the wide pad for the 5200 and sold my 5050. Wide 5250 is solid. Love it. Didn't need the 2nd bench in my 1 car garage
With the recent price hikes by REP, the difference in price between the two products is not enough for me to justify settling for the REP bench. Key factors that tip the scale in favor of the Rogue bench are material quality, stability, weight distribution, fit/finish, 85 (vs 90) degree position, MiUSA (vs MiC) and resaleability.
Love my AB3 got it about a month ago. I was going to get the REP AB5000 but just seemed way to cheap. Rather spend the extra money now and not have to replace the bench down the road
I’ve had Rep and Rogue benches. The Rep benches are nice but the Rogue ones definitely are more stable and better build quality. I currently have the Rogue AB 2.0. I have 0 complaints about it. It’s only drawback is that it’s $750 after shipping. If you can afford Rogue go for it but Rep is a quality product just not as high quality as Rogue.
Picked up a guy for an Uber ride last night at the Rogue Factory in Columbus, OH. They really do make them in the USA. That would explain the price difference.
I went REP zero gap and REP FB-5000 w/ wide pad. Price was right for me on both. Quality on Rogue might be better, but you have to pay an arm and a leg.
@@r8der674 how'd you get the zero gap?! I've been checking every 15 minutes and then they delayed to the 12/11. But on the morning of the 10th they were in stock and sold out within minutes
Really don't understand why Rep didn't just decrease the ridiculous 4 inch seat pad gap on the 5100 that they conveniently fail to disclose in their ads, rather than coming out with the zero gap 5000. The 5100 doesn't have the front heavy weight issue the 5000 has and is easier to use. It would be a near perfect bench imo.
Excellent! I might’ve gone for the REP however they weren’t available. Glad they weren’t actually since that price difference would’ve been too tempting for me. I ordered the AB-3 10/14 and received shipping notification from Rogue 11/14 so I’ve got a week or so of intense anticipation ahead! The color match on the REP and the rack look spot on though which is nice. Congratulations on having your hands on both benches! The REP is going for double the price and more on eBay lately.
The markup on used equipment is insane right now. I kind of refuse to be a part of it. When I sell things I don’t list above the actual manufacturer list price.
The only problem is Rep fitness has the crappiest way of handling the high demands. They don't have a waiting list, don't inform you via email when they're in stock, their ETA's are off so you have to check every 15 minutes close to that day and they'll still be sold out
This is why I am considering a Rogue Bench. I would have bought the Rep Zero Gap by now except the REP ETAs are BS. And the more I think on it the more I want to support American workers. Price be dammed.
@@richards6431 I'm also looking for another brand adjustable bench. But the rogue AB-3 OS $400 more than the Rep zero gap and it's only 10" wide compared to 12" wide rep
I appreciate the very thorough review. I'm guessing for garage use that it would take some years to hit that + $500 mark of ordering replacement pads and rollers on the Rep model.
Ended up going Elitefts 0-90* bench, it was on sale for the same price as rogues $540 but the shipping was $10 less... The shipping either way sucks at $175...
I got lucky when I bought my rack and bar years ago from rogue with the three for free etc, but this year I chose to support Dave and Elitefts with a bench and yoke bar and I'll chalk the shipping up to all the great information and learning I've gotten from him and say it was money well spent...
How many inches is the gap for the ab3? That's my only concern. Hoping it's small. Thanks for this detailed review! And covering the best points! Other than gap, is it the best adjustable bench on the market? That's what I'm looking for.
The gap is between 0 gap when fully upright and about 2.5” in the flat position. IMO the AB-3 is one of the best built adjustable benches out there but don’t forget to check out companies like ghost strong equipment.
@@TheKurtlocker I looked and saw the one adjustable bench they had for 1400, holy moly. And it doesn't seem to decline.. I think ill do the AB3. 2.5 doesn't seem as bad as others which have 4 inch gap. I appreciate the help!
@@TheKurtlocker have you ever used the prime adjustable bench? I'm hearing really good things on this one also. The only thing on that one is the soft material on the pad but some people like it
Does the back of your bench, the long upright part, on the Rogue, wobble back and forth if you place your hand on it and move it? Just got one and it's not very sturdy at all.
I fixed the wobble for the zero gap bench leg attachment. I used 1 1/4 rubber washers .they go between the metal rings and leg rollers. Use leverage when puttibg it together. Totally mitigated the issue www.amazon.com/dp/B00JJXMJLC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_wCb2FbGHY9NY0 There is also a trick to making it stable when attached to the bench. - attach leg attachment *do not tighten knobs* - while the leg attachment is in the bench lift up the leg attachment as much as you can without lifting the bench -while still lifting the leg attachment tighten the pop pin, while still lifting the leg attachment tighten the tension screw which is on the bottom. It looks to be it will only work best in this sequence. It is solid like one piece with this method.
@@TheKurtlocker no prob that wobble was killing me. The build is solid but the design is amateur hour. A simple cheap fix that they should include .I was on the verge of returning, it now I love it.
I have a question about the Rogue AB-3 Bench that im about to purchase. Does it come with the foot assembly for incline sit up or am i suppose to add on the Rogue AB-2 Decline Retro Fit Kit to do incline sit up? Much thanks!
@@TheKurtlocker thank you for taking the y up me to reply brother! Can I ask if the gap for the ab3. Bothers you? Or would the gap bother me for someone who is 5”7 unless I bench all the way on the bench pad.
The back pad on the AB3 is long enough to be used as a back pad so you don’t even notice it really. Unless you’re tall, you shouldn’t have to split between the seat and back pad
How is the AB-3 for flat bench press? Is the gap annoying? I have the Rogue utility bench and a cheap incline bench. It would be nice to just have one bench for everything.

I do think that rogue made a significantly more solid bench, but I also don’t think that for most people it is worth the difference in price. Thanks for watching.
It’s a “you get what you pay for”. I do plan on getting the one by rep fitness when it comes back in stock. Thanks for the video reviews, it lets me know what I’m getting myself into.

The only problem is Rep fitness has the crappiest way of handling the high demands. They don't have a waiting list, don't inform you via email when they're in stock, their ETA's are off so you have to check every 15 minutes close to that day and they'll still be sold out
Maybe someone needs to make a Facebook page like rogue stock bot for rep items
This is why I am considering a Rogue Bench. I would have bought the Rep Zero Gap by now except the REP ETAs are BS. And the more I think on it the more I want to support American workers. Price be dammed.
Nothing wrong with that reasoning.
Agreed. I especially like reps new pads. They are a lot better than what was reviewed here
Great review. Any thoughts or experience with the prime fitness adjustable bench? I’m considering that vs the Rogue.
I’ve seen it but the only solid review I’ve seen was from Garage Gym Reviews.
Believe it or not, the fid bench from titan fitness is well made and you can't beat the price.
I may look into doing a video. Thank you for watching
You didn't really mention the zero gap feature
You aren’t incorrect. I do compare it at one point, but I didn’t emphasize it enough as it is one of the biggest differences.
In that reverse foot pad orientation, can you fit your legs under for nordic curls?
It wouldn’t have the tightness you’d likely want but it COULD potentially work
Ended up going Elitefts 0-90* bench, it was on sale for the same price as rogues $540 but the shipping was $10 less... The shipping either way sucks at $175...
Shipping can be a real obstacle for home gym owners.
I got lucky when I bought my rack and bar years ago from rogue with the three for free etc, but this year I chose to support Dave and Elitefts with a bench and yoke bar and I'll chalk the shipping up to all the great information and learning I've gotten from him and say it was money well spent...
Absolutely. EliteFTS is a phenomenal resource.
Does the Rogue Leg roller fit into the Rep leg roller area?
It does not
I was interested in REP but they never seem to have anything in stock.
It’s tough to keep high demand items like benches in stock during this “lockdown” hopefully we’ll be through it soon
How many chest exercises should I do per workout?
As few as possible to illicit a physical adaptation
The only thing on that one is the soft material on the pad but some people like it
I have not and I have heard similar reviews of the prime bench.
@@TheKurtlocker gotcha! Thank you!
Does the back of your bench, the long upright part, on the Rogue, wobble back and forth if you place your hand on it and move it? Just got one and it's not very sturdy at all.
It has a small amount but not much
Can you use the Rogue decline attachment for the Rep Fitness bench? Are they compatible?
They are not. If you were to get them to work I’d be surprised.
Can you do decline barbell bench press with the AB-3?
That is correct and that is where the AB-2 and the AB-3 differ. The foot roller attachment and receiver is on the AB-3 and not on the AB-2
Thanks for the review. Here’s the most important question. Does the REP bench suck?
The REP bench definitely does not suck.
I fixed the wobble for the zero gap bench leg attachment. I used 1 1/4 rubber washers .they go between the metal rings and leg rollers. Use leverage when puttibg it together. Totally mitigated the issue

There is also a trick to making it stable when attached to the bench.
- attach leg attachment *do not tighten knobs*
- while the leg attachment is in the bench lift up the leg attachment as much as you can without lifting the bench
-while still lifting the leg attachment tighten the pop pin, while still lifting the leg attachment tighten the tension screw which is on the bottom. It looks to be it will only work best in this sequence.
It is solid like one piece with this method.
Thanks for the link and advice. I’ll have to try it out.
@@TheKurtlocker no prob that wobble was killing me. The build is solid but the design is amateur hour. A simple cheap fix that they should include .I was on the verge of returning, it now I love it.
Does the Rogue Foot Extension fit on the Rep AB 5000? I assume mo
I don't think it would fit as the rear frame is a different design
I have a question about the Rogue AB-3 Bench that im about to purchase. Does it come with the foot assembly for incline sit up or am i suppose to add on the Rogue AB-2 Decline Retro Fit Kit to do incline sit up? Much thanks!
The AB-3 should come with the roller
The gap is pretty large but I can get my entire body on the upper portion of the bench
I dont really notice it but being 5'6 my butt fits right in the gap and its very comfortable
I facepalmed when you said your butt fits in the gap. Lol.
Thanks for the third party feedback though!
does the rogue bench come with the leg attachment ?
The AB-3 comes with the leg attachment.
Now you have me thinking if I want to replace my Rep AB-5000 for this Rogue one lol. Btw are you keeping the Rogue bench, or just using it for this comparison?
I just used it for the comparison. It’s not mine but if it was, I would keep the rogue one.
ROGUE!
It is clearly the higher quality bench
How can I buy rogue ab3 from india
I imagine the freight would be outrageous but if interested contact team@roguefitness.com
@@TheKurtlocker can u suggest a bench which I can buy from India,
Thoughts on ab 5200?
It's solid bench. Rep sells some great quality pieces
He looks like baby Himmler
My mustache would single handedly kick Himmler's ass because he was a total douche
Video seemed bias. Like you can definitely tell he favors rogue. Like every con the rogue had he made it seem like oh its no big deal compared to a con that the rep fitness had , made it seem like oh thats very bad.
$1000 USD for a bench. Rogue, once again, sees suckers coming.
The Rogue bench is significantly more expensive but made out of made-in-USA materials by Americans in Ohio and is better built. I would feel that it is a matter of priority, not necessarily seeing suckers coming. Thank you for watching!
Cost factor for rogue is made in America
Very true, for me it is often worth it. What are your thoughts?
@@TheKurtlocker most of the time it’s worth it but lately USA made is starting to be low quality
@dmdm9198 it is crazy that made in USA is slowly going that way. There definitely are some quality imports as well
