Where I live, there's an elk depredation season in August. Only "antlerless elk," so no trophies. Early season challenges include sunrise WAY too early, lots of yellowjacket activity in the woods, dressing for the August weather, and having to get the animal off the ground quickly when you make a kill. On the upside, you can get in and out of the woods before it's swarming with hunters looking for that monster bull. I found myself nodding along with you on the early season prep.
