Honestly a shame that Venom missed out on UMVC3 cuz of Marvel’s shitty petty feud with other studios like Sony who owned movie rights of certain characters despite them still owning the characters themselves. But aside from that, what an amazing video! Another great video and I’m glad you got to Venom. I’m especially looking forward to whenever you talk about Spider-Man himself. I’m sure you have a rich history to go over with him too.
To my knowledge, it wasn't even the Sony thing that kept Venom out (especially since we know Doc Ock almost got in and the only reason he didn't was for technical issues), Marvel just didn't want Capcom to use them. Same with Cyclops, and IIRC, the devs & producer had to fight tooth and nail to get them to sign off on Sentinel. I think Marvel just wanted certain characters focused on over others. Most of the additional Marvel characters in UMVC3 had MCU movies or series announced that same year, so that kinda tracks.

Unrelated to Venom in fighting games but something cool I learned that’s related to Venom is that film director Paul Thomas Anderson who is most known for movies like Boogie Nights, Magnolia, Punch Drunk Love and There Will Be Blood has spoken about how much he loved the movie Venom: Let There be Carnage because despite directing movies with more artistic merit he actually lives in a Marvel household despite superhero fatigue settling in with audiences.
I like that you mentioned how the symbiot being essentially the one ring wasn’t a thing until the 90’s cartoon decided that the suit makes the wearer hyper aggressive. Not sure which I like more though. Pre 90’s cartoon suit in the comics, retconned post 90’s cartoon suit that makes it so the suit makes its wearer aggressive and violent, or retconned Deadpool influenced suit. The Deadpool retcon retconned the idea that the suit was inherently evil or aggressive at all and that it just adopts the personality and attributes of its wearer. But it’s basically a blank slate initially. This retcon showed that through time travel or something Deadpool wound up getting the suit on battle world before Spider-Man, but his fractured and broken mind left an impact on the suit that made it confused and insane, lien Deadpool. Then Spider-Man’s personality impacted the suit. Then Brock having the suit give him the influence of both Deadpool and Spider-Man while also being Brock is what makes him initially very aggressive and angry but eventually leads to him being an antihero. Also Carnage was born while Brock was the 3rd person (and only 3 had worn the suit) at a point when Brock was pretty pissed at Spider-Man and that suit bonding with a literal serial killer (Deadpool is technically a serial killer… for money. And he’s crazy. But he’s not Cletus Kassidy levels of crazy) is what made that suit absolutely warped beyond repair. Personally I like the concept that the suit takes on personality traits of its wearers as it’s own more than it’s just evil.
The reason Vemon was absent in Marvel 3 was apparently CAPCOM made the excuse that Eddie ditched The Venom Symbiote with Anti-Venom, but after story mode in Infinite he ditch Anti with his original Symbiote (This is source from Marvel Database)
In terms of theme songs in capcom games, Sagat's theme (in SF2 and Alpha 3) have obscure time signatures as well. That might also be what they were going for with Venom's since he is kinda like Sagat to Spidey's Ryu
I want to give kudos for getting Venom's backstory mostly right (you missed the part where the symbiote had to save Peter from attempt to get rid of it) and for noting that despite their reputation, thanks to mostly unfaithful adaptions, Venom has spent the majority of their lives on the side of good. The choice of comic recommendation was great as well, its the perfect introduction to 616!Venom. Its just nice to run into someone who knows the true character and not the one note monster most people know them as. Onto the games themselves while I do like Infinite's theme for Venom more due to sounding more heroic and it is still better than most adaptions, I feel they dropped the ball characterization and voice wise. With several lines being outright out of character for Venom to say. Which is a shame because Marvel vs. Capcom 1 and 2 perfectly captured 90sEra!Venom.

In Marvel vs 1, if you hold the punch button when doing the web throw, Venom will slam down the opponent a few more times. Also his absents in 3 is do to Agent Venom being the Venom in the comics and not Eddie. Marvel didn't want to promote the old Venom when they had a new one running around.

I think the 90s cartoon made the Symbiote make the wearer more aggressive as a narrative short-hand to gloss over the fact that when Peter first got the suit in the comics, he went through some emotionally rough stuff that really put him on the edge and ready to break people in half. The show didn't want to deal with stuff like the Sin-Eater and more of Peter's friends/acquittances dying so they shortcut to "Peter's in the suit and he's aannggrrrryyyyyy" Edit: i don't mind the change but a faithful adaptation of the original arcs leading into the Venom debut would be a nice change of pace in a future story.

So Venom, not really played with him much, still haven't tried him out in Infinite and still haven't unlocked him in MVC2, I definitely want to try him out though, also did not expect to see High-Speed Venom here, I honestly thought secret characters would be covered in a video all about them aside from a few exceptions (Like Shadow and Roll) but considering how different he is I would say it's warranted, tbh I actually prefer him in MVC1/2, I like his anti-hero portrayal more and I think I like the light blue a bit better than black, although black probably does look better on a 3D model. (Also I'm pretty sure the yellow color in MVCI is more so based on Phage than one of his MVC2 colors)

And yeah, MSHvSF/MvC1 secret characters are largely going to be part of their relevant character's videos unless there's a large enough change to their moveset or presentation to justify a separate video (So like you said, basically everyone but Shadow Lady and Roll). Wow! I was waiting around Jin. But doing a character study on Venom caught me off left field. Which makes perfect sense since we were around Halloween, anyway. Other than that, that was another great character study on one of Spidey's most dangerous enemy/reluctant ally. Venom's combos were insane, especially ending it with a upward Web Throw. That was sick, but in a fun, hardcore gamer kind of way. On a funny note, and this is somewhat off topic, imagine Venom being paired up with Cosmo from Fairly OddParents (since both characters were voice by Daran Norris, who voiced the former in the PS1 Spider-Man game). Cosmo's voice becomes so annoying, it bothers Venom to the point of either telling him to shut up, reminding him of Super Toilet, or just eating him whole besides his brains (which is one of Venom's main traits (e.g. "WE WANT TO EAT YOUR BRAINS!")). Anyway, you never cease to amaze me, Keep up the good work. Can't wait for the next one. BTW: Venom's ending in MVC1 is much better with Spidey as your partner. Trust me, it is much funnier with him near the end. 😉
I like Venom's light blue look in MvC because it reminds me of the coloring in older comics. Before comics started being colored digitally (which happened some time around the 90s-2000s), if an issue's colorist had opted for shading and highlights, characters with black costumes would often end up looking blue because their highlights would be a bright blue color. This is because, due to how comics were colored, it was really difficult to get grey tones to print consistently (you may know that the Hulk was originally supposed to be gray--this is why they made him green instead, if you look at the early printings of his first few comics where he's grey it looks like shit), so artists often went for a blue. Batman is one of the most notable examples of this

I have a really weird nitpick about mvci, but the characters are way too talkative compared to the other games. It feels like they have a completely different line for every action especially the supers.
I don't mind it too much (I think it's charming), but it is funny just how many alternate lines there are for even smaller actions like command normals.
Well his animations are amazing in marvel infinite his voice needed to either be deeper or to have some sort of modulation or filter over it to make it sound like two people are talking at the same time or something. It sounds too much like a goblin is speaking
As MvC was my first introduction to the character, I was pretty surprised seeing other media and Venom not being blue xD Also, I'd never seen the character's intinal origin story before, I had no idea he was actually that closely tied to Spidey himself! I know MvCI's visual gets a lot of hate, some justified, man I just love how Venom looks in the game. And I'm still shocked how well they nailed all his moves in 3D! Of all the MvC classic characters, he always felt like he was the most tied to a hand-drawn style, especially with how dynamic and (literal) fluid the animations are
The animators did a _really_ good job with Venom in Infinite. I wasn't sure if they would be able to capture just how fluid his sprite animations were, but they did a fantastic job. As far as animations go, I think he and Jedah are absolutely the highlights in Infinite, even though they had to tone down the latter quite a bit for ratings purposes.

Infinite handles dialogue, really, really weirdly. Even when characters have special dialogue, there's only a chance said dialogue actually play; it's completely random. Makes getting the footage of the interactions in MvCI a total pain. That said, it's kinda weird that he doesn't have fight intro dialogue for Venom

Yes! Venom's theme does deliberately use some of the instruments from Spideys theme in very similar ways (the piano samples in particular). It's a neat way to subtly acknowledge their connection. I think my favorite MvC1 theme is either Gambit, Hulk or Venom's themes.
Not that I care but I know that some people would make a big hissy fit that a white guy voice the black character nowadays and I absolutely hate the fact that people would want to make a big shitfit about it. I always like to bring up to those types of people like yeah Phil Lamar played samurai Jack a 15th century Tokugawa samurai. They didn't get an Asian guy to play samurai Jack they got a black dude. I don't care who plays what character but my rule is always when it comes to playing a character physically like in a live action If it's based off of an established piece of work that's been around a while you would do best to try to respect the original artist interpretation of what that character look like and try to get someone that looks like that person. But if you're trying to get someone to play the flash's wife That's not really a big character in media or popular culture so you can get whoever to play her. But if you're telling me that you want to go get Michael b Jordan to play Wally West I'm like dude come on.

As MvC was my first introduction to the character, I was pretty surprised seeing other media and Venom not being blue xD
Also, I'd never seen the character's intinal origin story before, I had no idea he was actually that closely tied to Spidey himself!
I know MvCI's visual gets a lot of hate, some justified, man I just love how Venom looks in the game. And I'm still shocked how well they nailed all his moves in 3D! Of all the MvC classic characters, he always felt like he was the most tied to a hand-drawn style, especially with how dynamic and (literal) fluid the animations are
The animators did a _really_ good job with Venom in Infinite. I wasn't sure if they would be able to capture just how fluid his sprite animations were, but they did a fantastic job. As far as animations go, I think he and Jedah are absolutely the highlights in Infinite, even though they had to tone down the latter quite a bit for ratings purposes.

Honestly, some of the roster picks like Jedah were so fresh, and the idea of Sigma fusing with Ultron is so good... MvCI is like a cornerstone of missed potential
@@HybridAngelZero Ultron Sigma is far and away the most well realized part of MvCI, IMO. For all of the stuff wrong with the story presentation, that was a really good idea that they surprisingly executed really well in spite of everything else.
@HybridAngelZero a lot of the original characters in MvCi model wise look very good. Like Gamora, Sigma, Ultron and Venom all have really nice models and animations but you can really tell the others are just reused

Infinite handles dialogue, really, really weirdly. Even when characters have special dialogue, there's only a chance said dialogue actually play; it's completely random. Makes getting the footage of the interactions in MvCI a total pain.
That said, it's kinda weird that he doesn't have fight intro dialogue for Venom

VENOMS THEME HAS SPIDERMAN THEME TONES IN THERE. SOUNDS LIKE TMNTTF MUSIC AT TIMES. BEST THEME IN MVC1 ALONG WITH ONSLAUGHT AND WOLVERINE IN MY OPINION.
Yes! Venom's theme does deliberately use some of the instruments from Spideys theme in very similar ways (the piano samples in particular). It's a neat way to subtly acknowledge their connection. I think my favorite MvC1 theme is either Gambit, Hulk or Venom's themes.
I was ecstatic to see one Spideys greatest enemies join MVC, i wish they could have brought one of his actual voice actors for the games.
Not that I care but I know that some people would make a big hissy fit that a white guy voice the black character nowadays and I absolutely hate the fact that people would want to make a big shitfit about it. I always like to bring up to those types of people like yeah Phil Lamar played samurai Jack a 15th century Tokugawa samurai. They didn't get an Asian guy to play samurai Jack they got a black dude. I don't care who plays what character but my rule is always when it comes to playing a character physically like in a live action If it's based off of an established piece of work that's been around a while you would do best to try to respect the original artist interpretation of what that character look like and try to get someone that looks like that person. But if you're trying to get someone to play the flash's wife That's not really a big character in media or popular culture so you can get whoever to play her. But if you're telling me that you want to go get Michael b Jordan to play Wally West I'm like dude come on.
