...and another one become pay per view...
watching your videos remind me of being a kid and watching the Old Yankee workshop
I’ve got a large slice of spalted hickory outside my shop that’s been calling for a purposeful life. Bingo!!
Beveling and finish work really makes it pop!
Some real art in that detail work. It's almost too nice to use!
brings back memories of my apprenticeship ,made 3 different sizes .Handles stuck out 35mm now almost flush
Awesome! I really liked the fact that you went for the natural look with out sanding! At least that's how it seems!
really nice, John. I like the little detail you put in with the chamfers!
I made two of them mallets but only with pressed in handles. They like to fly off. Now I know how it's made. Thanks for the fun!
I really like the bevel details.
It's a traditional design. See "How to make a Joiners Mallet" on Paul Seller's channel.
Still cant get over how awesome the tablesaw is
Congrats on joining the Mob John, and I think it's awesome you've been adding more hand tools into your videos. They really are a joy to use. I lost 90% of my power tools in September when I lost my shop, I now have a small work space that I would never call a shop and I've decided that when I finally get to rebuild my shop will be mostly bv hand tools.
Simple but a thing of beauty and great craftsmanship of itself.
It always makes me wonder why people dislike videos like this, I mean what could you possibly give a thumbs down for on this??
Internet is full of trolls. They do it just because they can and because they can wilfully annoy people totally anonymously without any repercussions or consequences. Hmmm, sounds like a definition of coward... Depending on the content and who uploaded, could also be done because they were paid to do so. A competitor paying idiots to dislike videos and badmouth stuff...so common now.
Forgetting to show the important part of fitting the hammer head to the handle.
I have wanted to make one of these for longer than I can remember. But, since I can barely remember yesterday, I'm not sure how long that is.
Beautiful Mallet John! Love the music too!
This video inspires me to use more hand tools!
I love this beautiful mallet. Thanks for sharing.
haven't been on this channel in a while, but really enjoying this hand tool vibe.
I made a small mallet from2 pieces of old dowel rods, one for the head, one for the handle! Drill an appropriately sized hole for the handle, then put a wedge in it to hold it in place.
thanks for a wonderful presentation, I will be making one, just one alteration. I will be leaving the natural curve under the bark, and add a curve similar to the one you added, to give it a semi-sphere top. Also, nice touch on the face. Once again, many thanks.
I liked the small red plane u used also love the mallet
Great news!!
Thanks James :)
if malletts could take and tell storys
Can't touch this...its hammer time! Thumbs up John.
I will build one these after seeing yours. Maybe 2!
Thanks for showing how and sharing that
Nice mallet .Thanks John
I need one for my shop. Will try your design. 😉
Very satisfying work
Nice, thanks for sharing. I have a block of walnut that needs a handle and shaping
Great video, John. I love the way you cut the chamfered edges. That was a nice touch.
Beautiful! And applying the finish at the end was so satisfying!
Very nice mallet you make every thing look easy even tho I know there is a lot of work put into it.
Wow, even the zero clearance insert had to much clearance :-)
Very nice video John.
Great work John! I have to make one now.
Thanks! Good luck with yours :)
I like your new small mallet and love your Stanley block plane same as mine 😊 .
Very nice project. The edge chamfers are a a great detail.
Sweet little mallet
Nicely detailed piece. Ready for a decade or more of use.
Thanks for the video! Nice, little project, I'll use this video to make myself a mallet!
BEAUTIFUL!!!!
That's a great mallet John👍
Nicely done John! 😃👍🏻👊🏻
Best of luck with the Makers Mob!!
Nice. Thanks for the video John.
Very nice job.

Thanks for the great video John. You are awesome dude! 👍😊
A smashing good video! Thanks for sharing!
Love the cool chamfer!
Another great build. Thanks for sharing.
Very nicely done!! Finally an easy tutorial. Also, very generous and useful plans. Thank you
i was waiting for one of those shavings to go flying as soon as i saw that table saw fire up
Están muy buenos los videos. Soy carpintero de tiempo completo y e sacado muy buenas ideas de aqui
Really nice looking mallet John. Best of luck with your new endeavors in the maker mob.
Beautiful!
This is awesome!!
Great video! Thank you for posting this tutorial.
We've all seen your band T-shirts over the years. That music at the end just doesn't seem like "you" somehow. Just saying.
Beautiful mallet. Enjoyed watching, as usual and "liked."
Nice looking mallet John! Thanks For sharing it with us' Merry Christmas!🎄🎁💖👌👍😎JP
good job
Me when i find a piece of stick and a pocket knife alone:
The mallet is very nice and simple. Good work!
I wish you well with the "Mob" but the last I had looked it is way more expensive than I can justify. I've also noted that you can no longer find out how much it is to join, before you join! Sorry John, but I don't trust sites like this. If you're selling something, put the price out front.
In addition - Exactly what are you supposed to do with the "stuff" on the "Mob" site - From the Terms and Conditions.
"Permission is granted to temporarily download one copy of the materials (information or software) on Makers Mob's website for personal, non-commercial transitory viewing only. This is the grant of a license, not a transfer of title, and under this license you may not:
modify or copy the materials;
use the materials for any commercial purpose, or for any public display (commercial or non-commercial);"
Based on that, I guess we're supposed to look at your stuff, say "Wow" and move on. According to that wording, one is not allowed to do anything with the material.
I've already unsubscribed from Jessi's feed because it's just turned into commercials for the "Mob", hoping the same doesn't happen here.
Sorry for the rant, but needed to vent!
It means, you can't make the stuff from the plan and sell it as your own. Stop reading so much into it.
@@KipdoesStuff Sorry but I read "or for any public display (commercial or non-commercial)" as meaning I can't post a picture on Facebook, on my web page, or any other place that would be public! Also "modify or copy the materials", what do you think that means? Those terms are a legal document!
@@jrkorman You can't display the materials (plans) publicly.
Great looking mallet and interesting project as always John. Thanks for making this content.
Beautiful mallet! I'm going to try to make one! Thanks for this! I'm thumbing up and gonna subscribe to support your channel!
Anyone else wish he would have left the top as live edge?
Just updated my patron for 5$. I love your work. Keep it up!
Thanks :)
Skillz
You don't strike me as one who "plays well with others" but gl, hope it helps that cash flow!
In many ways this mallet is like Jessica Simpson. It’s simple and beautiful. 😂
It's the fear of it breaking
Does wood grain direction matter?
Great video, thank you for posting. Is there a reason to not Tung the inside of the mallet head and the handle?
awesome
When you were trimming the stock for the mallet head on the table saw, I was literally holding my breath! Cutting a very small piece of dense wood without support except your hands on a saw without a guard…! Not a good look for some, John! Anyway, nice job on the project, sir.
Those triangular bevels are strangely satisfying. You've got some sexy bevels there John.
Tap that!
What was the finish applied at the end? You seemed to not mind touching it with bare hands, so may be some kind of mineral oil or wax?
what was the scraping tool used for the handle?
EXCELLENT DESIGN!
WHAT FINISH APPLIED?
THANKS!!!
thinking of using Crepe Myrtle for the head... thoughts?
Надо про верстак показать система быстрого зажима супер🤔
@2:04 the disk stopped spinning by itself?? How can it be? Great video as usual @John Heisz
Is the closing music a version of Driving on 9?
Muito bom gostei 👏👏👏👏👏 Brazil
Why is there no price for the Makers Mob on the web site? How much does it cost? I don't want to waste time filling in forms with my info if I can't afford it.
Also any time a company isn't forthcoming with a price, It makes me think there is something shady going on.
If everything is legitimate, why hide the cost? Surely they think the service is worth it.
Also will we see less videos from our favourite makers on UA-cam as they're busy with Makers Mob? I understand they need to make money, just asking the question.
The link is just to the free plans sign up, not the main site. There's nothing fishy going on, I can assure you - I would NOT direct viewers to anything like that.
Visit the main site for all of the details: www.joinmakersmob.com/
@@JohnHeisz lol, thanks John, been seeing a few posts complaining about cost, I knew there was a reason. They were too lazy to click on the main site. LOL
@@JohnHeisz Even at that link, no price without giving name and email address. Yes, looked over the entire site. Even tried to google. What I have found is several folks asking, no one being given an answer. Why not just be clear?
Not claiming the site is fishy, just agreeing with the above that the price is kept pretty hidden.
Went ahead and gave them my email. For those that care, $19.95 a month, $199 a year.
Hello John. I was wondering why you finished the mallet when assembled rather than in two separate parts? Also, was the head made from spalted wood? Would spalted wood be too soft?
5:30 Come in!
Me gusta el juego
That's a beautiful mallet, love the way the head can't fly away.
I thought you declined your invitation to the makers mob? They must have really wanted your skillset. Best of luck with courses I'm sure they will do well.
прекрасно , звук ручного инструмента, когда нож режет древесину
Buy some carbide forsner bits they wont rub and burn
That is a very hard maple, its going to rub and burn, lol.
Alter, die Finger nicht so nah an das Sägeblatt 🫣. Ansonsten echt cooles Teil 😬👍🏻
243 views and 29 likes ! REALLY ! IT'S SOO EASY TO SMASH THAT THUMBS UP !
Not so easy if it's cast to a TV.
@@LostWhits I watch mine through a Television also ! It has a "like" and "dislike" !!
@@OG-GhOsT1974Maybe my smart TV is just intellectually challenged then. Haha
Would it not be nice to have a very soft face to prevent damage to any wood you may knock on?
a soft face wouldn't last very long and the damage to the face could mar anything you use the mallet on. Its not for pounding, its for gently persuading.
I always enjoy your videos. I made a couple mallet heads the other day out of hdpe. How did you come up with the 2 degree angle? Personal preference or based upon length of handle?
Personal choice I reckon. Paul Sellers likes 7°
Maple?
Hmm - so you can only get the free plans if you are not already signed up?
"Hand Tools". Except for all the power tools used.
