Hi Ed... Really beautiful mallets and well made... I like them both but as we can't get Walnut easily in the UK. Then that would be my choice... Hammer Time ... !! Entertaining video as always... Take care...All the best.....Andy
When dealing with oily woods, it's a good idea to use Tannin, if I'm saying that right. Now, I'm no expert, just seen it show up in some videos, not sure of the process, or the intricacies involved, but it's something I will try to keep in mind and research more when I get to using these types of woods. Great job on this build, much gratitude for you sharing this with us.
Man those are beautiful. I’d to use the maple and walnut one when it’s “Hammer time.” Although if anyone else tries to use i’ll say “You can’t touch this.”
Hammer time. You are a born teacher who did awesome job with your video. Both hammers are beautiful. Thanks for the time you took to help us wood workers
Nice end result, Ed. I have a tip for you that may be of interest to you or to your viewers. RE: Securing the handle with wedges... Prior to cutting the kerfs that will take the wedges, drill an 1/8" hole where each kerf will stop. Now, when you drive in the wedges, any stress that might travel down the grain will be relieved by the 1/8" drill hole. Guaranteed!! WARNIING: When you cut the kerf, only cut into the 1/8" hole but do not nick the opposite side of the hole. That nick would encourage the stress to jump the gap and the advantage of the hole would be lost. Btw, I'm interested to know if any of the Paduak mallets are still available. Cheers and blessings to you and your channel viewers. e.k.
Honestly, dear Ed, I have watched the first ten minutes in fast forward mode, because I am awake for more than 30 hours now and could fall asleep every minute. But I cannot sleep before having seen the final result of your newest Hammer Time and Hammertime and HammerTime project! Both look awesome, I cannot decide which one I like more. Please keep up the awesome work and I wish you a wonderful start into the week!
Hi Ed, great hammer. I like the design and the way you made it. I was interested to see your nail gun does the same trick as mine, which is a similar make. Mine also won't fire the nails out sometimes. I found if i spray a little solvent in the head let it dry then use Graphite power on it then works fine. Thanks Les.
Nice job. I like the handle layout. I’m thinking of using the method for my handle tops, I have a job site table saw and was trying to figure out a way to cut “shoulders” for the mallet head to joint together.
Thank you for watching! I'm actually working on a hammer that I can make with the CNC. I want to show an alternative way to build them. Keep an eye on my website as I will sell them there. - Ed
Ed, Hammer time. I love both hammers. These hammers are as beautiful as they are functional. However, I plan to turn the handle on my lathe with groves for improved grip, while using your same attachment method at the hammer. Thanks!
Thank you! Turning on the lathe is a great idea. Check out my latest video where I make a carving mallet out of left over resin. I also turn the handle on the lathe. - Ed
As far as finishes, you could also use Acks wood paste wax with carnuba for a little harder finish then just oils, Nice looking mallets. I would like to buy one for myself.
Hammertime! I'd take either but the Walnut would be my first pick. Really enjoyed the video! I've been looking at making one of these myself. Thanks for the work!
Nice job,. I am a new subscriber, really like the fact you use soothing music as a background makes it very easy to watch. I am going to make me a hammer..
Hammertime, Such a wonderful video. I’m particularly impressed by the “no set hard rules” approach you take. That’s the way I work as well. Thank you for keeping it easy to watch and listen to. Both choices of mallets are equally impressive and I would be proud to have one in my shop. Thank you.
Hammer Time , Ed. I'm impressed in the way your shop has expanded the new tool upgrades I see ever so often. Both hammer look great. But I'm always partial to walnut. Hope all has been well for you and yours.
Thank you Paul! Funny thing is, I've had a lot of them (especially the smaller ones) for a while. They've just haven't been needed. Just collecting as I go. ha ha - Ed
Question -- I've seen other videos where they put weight in the head (lead fishing sinkers, sand) but you didn't. Is it a good idea to use weight or not that important? Yours turned out great!
Thank you for watching. I've seen that too. I think the difference it without the weights, it's a carving/joiners mallet. With the weights, it is more of a dead blow mallet. - Ed
Hammer Time! Both look great. I love your attention to detail and the pride you take in what you do. Great work! Either would be an upgrade for the shop. Pick one? Walnut 🔥
Hammer time. 😂. Just wanted to say that. Hell if it’s still an option Id be all over that walnut mallet. Nice work. Wouldn’t mind a mallet from another woodworker. Currently I make mine with the striking head 1 solid piece of wood by chiseling the mortis for the handle an adding the pretty face after. I enjoyed watching.
Love this mallet design and construction. Thank you for taking the time to make the video. The audio and video qualities are very high. Just got subscribed based on this video alone. Now I need to dive into your content a bit more. The only critique I have is the background music may be a touch too loud. This is only my opinion, so there's that! Great work, great design, and well done video. Just for completeness, "hammertime"! I do love padauk and I don't have any of it. I do have walnut I could pair with maybe acacia, hickory, ash or the ever popular maple. I even have some poplar, but for a mallet head that's maybe not the best choice! Suffice to say you have inspired me to at least have a go at making a nice woodworking mallet.
Hammer time Walnut all the way. First time seeing one of your videos great job definitely going to check out more.🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 the mallets turned out amazing great job
Ha.mer time. I love those mallets. Anyone will do. God bless you.
Hammer Time!! I love working with walnut and I’d have to say it is my favorite wood. But that padauk is pretty sweet!
Thank you Brad! - Ed
Hammer time. Like both but the paduk is sharp. My son uses it a lot with duck calls.
I loved your video. I would love to own one.
Best Mallett I've seen .... "Very well done", wood working brother.
Thank you very much John! - Ed
Excellent mallet making, very good fit and finish, great job. Simple and elegant.
Loving the walnut and maple... The Odies oil sure makes these mallets stand out and shine!
Thank you Rick and it makes them smell nice....for a little bit! - Ed
Love the way you show working without being affected by the likes hunger. Thumb up for sure!
Thank you! - Ed
Lovely! ....Hammer Time! ....both gorgeous but walnut ...just 👍
Thank you! - Ed
Hammer Time!! I think the walnut one would fit the decor of my shop the best, but either would be nice. Thank you!
Thank you Harry! - Ed

Omg!... Loved the design and build...Truly it "Hammer Time" Im in favor of the dark walnut
The flamenco guitar in the background is cool man.
Yes! I was just writing same thing, I'd love to know the key and actual scale they are playing, beautiful notes
Man those are beautiful. I’d to use the maple and walnut one when it’s “Hammer time.” Although if anyone else tries to use i’ll say “You can’t touch this.”
Thank you Michael! Ha ha - Ed
Hammer Time! They look fantastic but I have to say Walnut always stands out to me.
Thank you! - Ed
Tim Fry is the winner of the padauk mallet. Congratulations Tim! Please email me your address and I'll get it in the mail. - Ed
Thank you very much!
I sent you an email.
I’m very excited!
Hammer time. You are a born teacher who did awesome job with your video. Both hammers are beautiful. Thanks for the time you took to help us wood workers

So your tip is to do exactly what he did at 4:38 in the video? 🤣🤣🤣 you’re funny.
Did you even watch the video?

Thank you! - Ed
Hammer Time. I don't own anything with padauk in it, so my first choice would be the padauk and maple.
Really enjoy the videos.

Thank you Dennis! - Ed
If you plan in making another set of hammers , I would like to purchase one.

Well done Ed very beautiful take care and God bless
Thank you Mike! - Ed
beautiful work!
Lots of adjustments on that nailer. The main thing is keep it warm, if it gets cold the drive pin won't fire the nail as the tolerances are off.
Thank you for watching! - Ed
Cool mallets brilliant video
Hammer Time! You can't touch this!
Stunning. Beautiful.
Thank you James! - Ed
