I think you should restart, especially if you want to get the achievment for the singly city challenge :) Also you mentioned the difference in the game mechanic (e.g. razing of capitols). Personally I am happy both ways!
I'd enjoy either choice but you know if you don't restart it's gonna gnaw at the back of you're mind and you'll end up doing another video eventually. Maybe do a sped up bullet point video of interesting events to catchup to about this point fr the first redo video.
I think you should restart, maybe use the Shuffle map generation to get a truly random experience.
I think you should restart as well. It becomes a limitation on your victory choices if you attempt to just stay as a single city and just play it through because of the inability to raze enemy capitals. Its a shame though, you were left quite unmolested and had a pretty decent start. Hope you can get another good start in the next one.
I dont care, I think you should decide yourself, your the one playing:)
Pretty much the same as everyone else. Restart even if this was a good start. I'll be watching either way.
I vote to restart because I think that you could get a better start than this one and I really like watching the starts of civ games :)
Continue this game, but i would understand if you did restart.
i vote a restart too since is stupid to limit yourself to own another city when u a able to.
I also vote restart. I like what you have going here, but the unique feature with razing is unique to a single city challenge, and you'd never see that otherwise. I also agree with the commenter that mentioned liking watching the starts. I personally like seeing if you can get lucky with goodie huts and get a quick policy, free techs, pop growth or early pantheon.
Speaking of religion, I wonder how powerful that could be in a SCC? Pacifying your neighbors with shared religion modifiers might be useful. Still, it's tough prioritizing your already limited production choices early on with a shrine, especially when you need to race others to found your faith. I haven't really explored the religious beliefs that are good for the SCC... hmm.
I think this is the main thing with the SCC. You have to be willing to make sacrifices. You have to target wonders which you really need, and make a direct tech line to them. You have to be prepared to miss out on a lot of other wonders while doing that - so choosing carefully is important. You can't afford to have specialised cities, and must make you one and only city a "Jack of all trades" and switch citizens around as needed. This is one of the few game types where you will actively see me micromanaging my citizen every few turns; or at least every time the population grows.
I was pleased with how the game was going - I thought it was a strong start. I'm gutted that I screwed the options (but I have no one to blame except myself). Still, I wanted to be honest and open about it. So far most votes are for me to restart, and I'm fine with that. Maybe next time we'll get a start near a mountain or natural wonder, or a river to work.
I also spent some time looking to see if there was a Civ V save game editor. I was toying with the possibility of just editing the save file and enabling the option that was (as I technically haven't done anything in the game that contravenes the SCC rules). Sadly, it doesn't seem like there is such an editor!
I would restart. Either way i will watch.
I think you should restart, I like watching the starts anyway :)
The start of a new game is often the most interesting part. It's that excitement of exploring a new map, and never knowing what you're going to find, or how you will make use of it.
Im in the reboot camp.
I would restart in this situation.
Self-imposed rules don't prevent you from doing something you normally wouldn't be able to do (imagine if you mis-clicked with the Merchant and bought a City-State). You wanted a One City Challenge, so you should get a proper one!
continue
Honestly I like watching you, regardless of the serie.
However as you just begin, I think you should continue. I know, it's not as if you're losing and want to have a better start but it's still a game started and you should finish what you start!
Nevertheless, it's your game, your series, do what you prefer, I'll continue watching.
restart
I vote restart, just because it was the single city challenge that made it different from a normal domination Victory with just another civ.
It is looking like everyone is happy with a restart (which is what I would prefer to do anyway). I actually felt like I wasn't enjoying it as much when I realised I had screwed up. I honestly felt like not uploading the this video and just taking the first one down. However, I decided to be honest and put it to a vote. So I think I'll keep this series going, and episode 3 will be the restart - though I'm going to run through the early turns at a somewhat faster pace to get roughly back to where we were.
UnstableVoltage I would point out that you can always redo the comments for the original videos and turn this into a standard Venice let's play. Other than that, I do think a restart is warranted, since the OCC option changes the actual game mechanics.
Already restarted :o)
Sure, I would like for you to restart the game and play in the One-City mode. Keep up the good work !
You are doing so well and you have such a great starting location, it's sad to lose it. But I was looking forward to seeing how one city challenge goes, so I would vote restart.
Continue with this one and once finished start a new one with the option enabled ;)
Whatever you think it's best but I would like to have a mountain, river, sea and few sea resources also some land resources like horse, sheep or at least wheat. I am more interested in how far you could go or win at all, but not being able to raze cities instantly could be a huge problem. Also you can't raze capitals right?
In a One City game, any captured city, be it an original capital, holy city or city state all get instantly destroyed. This has it's own pros and cons. Firstly, if you capture a city with great works in it, you can't take the great works and move them to your own cities. Secondly, you can't liberate cities - as the moment you capture it, it gets razed without giving you the option to liberate.
On the plus side, you can wipe any city off the map, making it impossible to be recaptured. This can make a domination victory easier, as you don't have to hold capitals (except your own).
So while I could play as I am, and just avoid ever taking over a city state with my Venetian Merchant; if I ever tried to capture a city I would technically be breaking the rules.
I'm also unsure if the option has any other effect on the game - such as starting locations, resource spawns or AI behaviour.
Thanks for info :) Didn't know any of that, also I can't wait for you to play new Civilization.
I can't wait either. As soon as I can get my grubby little hands on it, I'll be making videos and uploading them :D
UnstableVoltage Oh interesting, I never considered instant razing and domination. This could be pretty neat with Venice, given the huge amount of cash they get rolling in. Venice could just buy their armies and steamroll everyone!
Again though, it's a double edged sword. Once you start wiping out original capitals, anyone else looking for a domination victory is soon going to be setting their sights on you. As you only have one city, losing it is game over.
