Honor, courage and commitment are not just words, they are the foundation that the US Navy is built upon. For those who cannot learn, adapt and be part of a team, it is much better for the Navy and the recruit to find out early when lives are NOT on the line. After three decades of US Naval service and having been retired for over a decade.....I still miss the camaraderie I had with those I have served with. If you wish to be the best, you’ve got to be willing to give more of yourself than you ever thought possible and only then can you see if you can make the grade and be a member of the greatest Navy in the world. Live your life with honor and you’ll never have regret.

Went to Great Lakes RTC in '87. Man is it so different now. Didn't train in running shoes, only for PT. Wore Boondocks with the Dungaree pants LOL. Our Division MASH sessions were a lot more intense than what they do now also. I think our first session after the "break in" period was about 4 hours more or less. Makes me wonder was it too intense then? Were they turning out to many recruits to go home or something? It was tough, I'm sure it still is. But it certainly is different than when I was there.
OH, MY GOD...... If you're going to join the military, any branch of the military...you need, NEED to be in some type of shape. And no, "round" is not a shape when talking about the military. Push-ups, sit-ups, running, 8 count body builders, flutter kicks, superman's etc.... You should be able to do lots of each. If you know you're going to join, or if you're in DEP, work out. It's not a secret that the military boot camps use physical "reinforcement" (exercises) to both punish and get their point across. If you're in shape, EVERYTHING is easier....EVERYTHING. It's also one less thing to have to worry about. Learn your general orders....and don't "sort of" know them, don't "kind of" know them....KNOW THEM. Everything you can learn before you go will help you. Know the ranks, it's not that tough. If you're over-weight, lose the weight BEFORE you go or you're going to get "extra attention". The last thing you want is your DS, DI, or RDC's (I believe they call them now) undivided attention.
TL. Joining the military is a commitment a serious one....if you're even thinking about it, don't...DO NOT take it lightly. But I'll tell you this as someone who served for 10 years on active duty, the last 7 with the Marine Corps as an FMF Corpsman (to include combat), the military can change your life.....and change it for the better. Who you are NOW...doesn't matter, it's who you are in the service. If you do decide to join, take it seriously. As I said, work out BEFORE you go....and do it consistently. Be in shape, know your general orders, know the ranks. Know all you can before you get there. My recruiter was honest with me....he told me "boot camp sucks, it's supposed to" and he was right. But it's only a few weeks and that is NOTHING for the opportunities it can give you throughout your life...your ENTIRE life. Not everyone gets to claim the title of Veteran......because not everyone had what it takes to be a Veteran. Not everyone has the courage to venture into the unknown with nothing but their confidence and courage to accompany them. Whether you stay for 4 years, or 30 years...it's something no one...NO ONE can take away from you. You will learn a great deal about other people and more importantly about yourself. It's an experience unlike any other. You can make life long friends that are more than friends....they are brothers and sisters....people who you KNOW are made of the tougher stuff. The story of YOUR life is YOURS to write....make it a good one.
Yes. But the recruiters will cheat to get ppl in. I've seen it happen. They'll write down higher numbers on push ups or sit ups and fudge the numbers on runs. Theyll say you'll get better in bootcamp. I guess they have a quota or something.
motown. Yes, they can, but I'm not talking about the recruiters, I'm talking directly to and about those that are thinking about joining. To the recruiters, you're a number, a billet, a quota they HAVE to make or they're going to hear about it. Take them out of the equation. If YOU are in good shape everything is easier. If you are in good shape getting dropped for what someone else did (and yes, it WILL happen) won't effect you as much. If you are in good shape you won't be running around "red-lined" all the time. Your stress level is going to be high enough in boot camp, especially in the first few weeks. Wouldn't it be nice to KNOW that pretty much no matter what they throw at you physically it's still not as tough as what you did to prepare yourself???? Look, the RDC's tailor what they do to most of the weaker people. If they did it to the level of the more fit people they would destroy the entire company so they build up to it. The RDC's have rules they have to adhere to as well. They can only drop you so many times for so many reps. My advice is to go into recruit training in decent or better than decent shape. If the recruiters want to write down higher numbers that's on them. But the folks who go in, in horrible shape are the one's who are going to pay the price in the long run....boot camp for them will be HELL.....at first. Why not avoid that altogether??? It's like a test you know you need to study for.....either put in the work/time or don't complain when you fail. If someone is thinking of joining or is in delayed entry, it only makes sense to workout....you will anyway in boot camp so avoid the soreness beforehand. Hey, do what you like, I went in, in really good shape and EVERYTHING was easier......EVERYTHING.
You could tell by their demeanor from the onset that one of the twin brothers was going to wash out - even before the updates about both of them being held back. RTC probably should have separated the two from the beginning.
Wow... when I went to boot camp back in 1996, we didn't get life preservers for our swim qualification. You jump in and tread water for at least 10 minutes straight and THEN you can get out of the pool. Those sticks they were using to pull people out of the pool with,... well those were used to keep us in the pool until the time was up. Imagine being dead tired and you're swimming toward the edge of the pool to get out and then someone pushes you back in with that stick! Fury and rage is what happens next.
same here, when i went thru great lakes in 1988, we didn't have lifeboat drills, life preservers, or any of that jazz. you showed up in your navy swim trunks, jumped from what I believe was a 30 foot, not a ten foot tower, treaded water for ten minutes, and proved you could swim a few strokes- man has the Navy changed!
Thanks to boot camp and the Navy, I have been forged into an individual who is patient and resilient. I served for almost 10 years as an IC. Now I am a civilian and an RN. I could not be here if it wasn’t for the training I received and the hard times that I have endured.
Or when you’d have that one guy at tap do his motivational speeches and everyone is screaming and running around and shit 😂. Or the “LOCK IT UP GENTALMEN” or “EARS! EARS! OPEN!” Got so annoying

So right now, I'm in the process of joining the Navy, and I'm watching these videos to prepare. I'll admit, I was terrified of the water as a kid, and even today, I'm still a little worried about this swim test. But, I'll never overcome this fear unless I attack it, which I sure as hell will do.

Royal Naval basic training 10 weeks, more nuanced and more quieter. Eventually they will meet sailors from the Royal Navy, probably best if they avoid and competive drinking them... it would end well for them and will probably get messy
Petty Officer Sperry reminds me of one of my Company Commanders from basic training at RTC San Diego back in 1983, Chief Dodge, he would yell , scream, get in your face the typical Drill instructor but he rarely ever gave out pushups or any other physical punishment, now The other Company Commander Chief Johnson Never raised his voice the entire time we were there but all he had to do was say “Down” and he would have us doing PT until we collapsed and were sucking air. As a fellow Seabee 1983-1989 I’m proud to see Petty Officer Sperry proudly wearing the Seabee Combat Warfare Badge. “We Build We Fight” “Can Do”
You all just hang in there. You'll look back on it all with fond memories. And really it will be the easiest thing you do in the Navy. It's only a couple months vs. a deployment.
On quitting and getting kicked out, we lost a recruit on out P-1 Day. He acted out in medical check-in. He bragged about being institutionalized and said that he wanted to die the most painful death ever and then he was gonna come back and tell everyone how good it felt. He came walking by us with his seabag on. We asked him where he was going. He looked at us and said "Home." P-1 Day. Didn't make through his P-1 Day.
Kyra Douglas Better think about the Army if you can’t jump in three ft of water!! Just kidding. Can you swim? If not, learn before you go and get confidence so you don’t have issues!! Get a good instructor and tell them about the Navy. Good luck!! Hooo-ahhhhh!!

Join the Submarine Navy. No shave chits for every deployment. Of course you don't see the sun for months at a time, but hey, take the good with the bad.

You're a bitch.
Roblox Jeremy She’ll either learn and do it or get sent back home to mommy and daddy!! Lol
I love Jones and Ortiz, they will be successful
You are so right! The have the correct attitudes!!
I graduated yesterday and only got to see the first video before shipping out. This videos make get flash backs lol
I love these Videos I know these will help me to Prepare not only Physically but Mentally. I know it wont be Easy but its just another challenge to complete
It's also likely scaled back a bit for the camera. Don't wanna scare future recruits too much.
Orlando RTC: Put it this way - I went into boot camp in better shape than I was coming out of it.
Recruit: Good Morning Petty Officer.
Petty Officer Sperry: Let's Gooo get up!
0:00 So relateable, how they just ignore you and you have to keep talking. lol
You go over it so may times perfectly in your head, and then, "Good morning . . . uhhh sir, or ummm." lol
what's worse is when they ask you your general orders.
Division 821!!!....you have 2 minutes!!!!!! I miss those days. Love you Navy... always and forever!
You should become a recruiter because I’m quite afraid of joining the Military and what you just said might have sparked something I repeat MIGHT
TideFan Yankee facts💯💯💯👏👏👏
Never thought I'd miss boot camp and it's been 10 years for me since I graduated.
Ready for that JTSuits reaction! 😂
15 years later, I see somethings have changed, others not so much.
You could tell by their demeanor from the onset that one of the twin brothers was going to wash out - even before the updates about both of them being held back. RTC probably should have separated the two from the beginning.
My buddy is in the military. I have so much new founded respect for him now (not that I didn't in the past but much more now)
Wow... when I went to boot camp back in 1996, we didn't get life preservers for our swim qualification.
I didn't get life preservers in 2006 either.
I went in December of last year and we didn’t get preservers either, and idk which “ship” their in either cus our racks weren’t that nice.
It’s a new thing in bootcamp called Abandon Ship. It’s different from the swim qualification
I also didn't see any utility pants in the pool... lmao. Trying to fill them up with air to make a flotation device hahaa. 2001 :)
same here, when i went thru great lakes in 1988, we didn't have lifeboat drills, life preservers, or any of that jazz. you showed up in your navy swim trunks, jumped from what I believe was a 30 foot, not a ten foot tower, treaded water for ten minutes, and proved you could swim a few strokes- man has the Navy changed!
Thanks Big time All Hands ! Great episode🇺🇸! ✌💪❤
Finally #4 drops!!! I’ve been waiting for this!
Thanks to boot camp and the Navy, I have been forged into an individual who is patient and resilient. I served for almost 10 years as an IC. Now I am a civilian and an RN. I could not be here if it wasn’t for the training I received and the hard times that I have endured.
Those 10 counts were brutal.
We only had 8 counts when I was in. No Tide Pods though.
😂 it made me so sad when I heard “you have 30 seconds to hydrate”
And then they always said, "The head is secure!" Now THAT pissed me off. LMAO
Or when you’d have that one guy at tap do his motivational speeches and everyone is screaming and running around and shit 😂. Or the “LOCK IT UP GENTALMEN” or “EARS! EARS! OPEN!” Got so annoying
Hahaha, every division had the motivational speeches guy! lol. "Lock it up" and "ears open" was some bullshit, but not as much as"TOELINE" every morning.
The more I watch. The more I'm ready.
I hated swim, I couldn't swim and I still joined the navy but I passed after a few attempts, it was both scary and thrilling
This is really a pretty good series..definitely glad to see more yelling 😁 a lot of these sights and uniforms are different from my day..but proud of our Navy and all my shipmates 😋
*back at home*
Me : "Mum they bully me."
Mum : "Good for you, you should not have bullied your little sibilings."
Damn, Petty Officer Sperry has a CAR.
and the afghanistan campaign medal dude was a badass lol
That’s why he’s there. They don’t pick scrubs to be a RTC. You got to be squared away
I’m arriving tonight 🇺🇸✈️
rebecca elie I’m arriving in 3 years 😂
dont fall asleep during moment of truth lol
You're dink nub
Goodluck! Hang tough and weather thru it. You'll look back on it all with fond memories.
good friggin luck guy, graduated 2 weeks ago and i still feel like im there sometimes.
So right now, I'm in the process of joining the Navy, and I'm watching these videos to prepare. I'll admit, I was terrified of the water as a kid, and even today, I'm still a little worried about this swim test. But, I'll never overcome this fear unless I attack it, which I sure as hell will do.
I’m joining soon and I am very pleased to have the opportunity to serve !
Boot!!!
I’m so glad they made these videos. I go to boot camp in Feb. Nervous but ready.
I was going through what they are getting ready for the Navy. I was ROYAL CANADIAN AIR CADETS of Barrhead Alberta Canada, 526 Barrhead Legion
“air chairs get there” “1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 7 8 7 8 9 10” “you have 30 seconds to hydrate”
I miss boot camp 😩! I might go be an instructor after these orders.
born and raised in the philippines, immigrated to guam, joined the navy in 1984...pffft...big deal boot camp no problem....thought i wanted to quit first 4 years...retired 20 years later....loud and proud retired petty officer first class i don't freakin' care....i did my duty...hooyah! good luck future fleet sailors and thank you brothers and sisters for your service!
Lmao I leave tomorrow. Was supposed to leave in October but got hit with that earlier date
American Wusky hooyah 5k bonus
2:47 I wonder if she made it.
3:24 Air chairs. Get there.
*proceeds to do 30 minutes of air chairs because one person refused to do it right at first, then a small cycle of people messing up starts.*
Royal Naval basic training 10 weeks, more nuanced and more quieter. Eventually they will meet sailors from the Royal Navy, probably best if they avoid and competive drinking them... it would end well for them and will probably get messy
2:53 sponsored by Nike and the United States Navy
new balance*
cj floyd I think he means the PO yelling “DO IT! JUST DO IT!”, not the shoe brand.
DO IT AND DO IT NOW!!
belay my last petty officer
@@chadpersing5596 haha I often hear that
Petty Officer Sperry reminds me of one of my Company Commanders from basic training at RTC San Diego back in 1983, Chief Dodge, he would yell , scream, get in your face the typical Drill instructor but he rarely ever gave out pushups or any other physical punishment, now The other Company Commander Chief Johnson Never raised his voice the entire time we were there but all he had to do was say “Down” and he would have us doing PT until we collapsed and were sucking air.
As a fellow Seabee 1983-1989 I’m proud to see Petty Officer Sperry proudly wearing the Seabee Combat Warfare Badge. “We Build We Fight” “Can Do”
I start my process next month! Who's else is joining the Navy???
Wrong Turn I'm going in next month too haha sept.27
Wrong Turn me!!! I just start too
MrTailedfox2010 oh great!
Nimath EMMANUEL that's cool. We might leave on the same day who knows!
Both were separated from the navy?
0:22 when you wake up and say "...ah crap" the US Navy isn't for you.
Hooyah ship 5.
I just graduated from a-school. I plan on vlogging my entire navy journey. feel free to follow along! and ask questions if you have any!
So the swimming is the only thing. I literally am afraid to jump in only THREE feet of water...... YMCA here I come 😩
Kyra Douglas Better think about the Army if you can’t jump in three ft of water!! Just kidding. Can you swim? If not, learn before you go and get confidence so you don’t have issues!! Get a good instructor and tell them about the Navy. Good luck!! Hooo-ahhhhh!!
05:23 what was that?! The thing with the life vests and the floating platform? Boat? I've seen pics of that from the past but i never did that when i went through, none of my div did...
Seems funny they were picking on a recruit for not shaving then you see an instructor with a beard. I'm sure he had a no shave chit but still. The irony.
Honestly though.
for reals. LOL!
Join the Submarine Navy. No shave chits for every deployment. Of course you don't see the sun for months at a time, but hey, take the good with the bad.
A lot of black men (not exclusively) are this way..they get bumps from close shaving. You are still required to keep a neat beard and can't be over a certain length.
No shave chit
I’ve been watching and enjoying this series very much! Why on Earth did you stop at episode 4?
01:00
Holy shit!!! Petty Officer Milcette was my second RDC! This is fucking crazy!
I was a NQS for a few weeks until I passed my swim qualification on the night before battle stations!
0:13 “Good morning aiiuiais” LOLOLOL
My compartment started with 94 females and at the end of it, we had 63. Most people get asmo’d cause the PFA final, baseline, or doing some hella dumb shit like recruit to recruit contact
6:56 Bruh, he can't even get his legs up😂😂
Just for curious. That woman at 2:47 passed or failed?
Nah...I think she failed based on her attitude noticed how she had an attitude when the petty officer yelled at her
She passed she’s in the last episode
I remembered the "IT" being called getting "beat" Lol. One dude in my division was a fuckin powerhouse and was crankin out pushups like it was nothing. Our RDC was actually getting pissed that he wasn't tiring the dude out!
The greatest! Congratulations!
half of the people doing pushups at 1:18 weren't doing pushups
Looking forward to serving my country. I'll be shipping out there in a couple weeks.
Do they mean the twins were separated from each other or both from the Navy? I'm assuming the latter due to their limited appearances in this episode.
Separated from the Navy.
I'd imagine for "loving to get special attention," as it was shown in Episode 2 haha.
Camels Toe How should I know?
Camels Toe I don’t know if it’s true but everyone’s saying they quit when they thought we were going to war because we bombed Syria
ErikfromEarth Being separated is a military term. You are separated from military because either you are unfit, or a person feels after experiencing the stress decide to bail and request to get out! In my opinion, it’s lame!! Weak!!
All I remember in boot camp is that my rdcs kept breaking the stick I practiced with, every new one I got ended up being broken
3:00 damn she not trying to be there😂
Lol
She has no military bearing
Oh she’ll make through sadly but she’ll get fucked up in fleet
At 0:30 did he say “alright petty officer”????
"aye aye petty officer"
Imagine if they went USMC
Hell
Right... marine DI see’s you didn’t make you pillow right he’ll/she’ll flip the whole bed
Oof
Their bay would be torandoed
@@bassackwards2585 I had an RM1 who would RIP everything off your bed or everything out of your locker when it wasn't right. And depending on his mood he may do it to everyone to build team skills.
It is a lot different than when I was was in.1959 San Diego, CA. The tower we jumped from 50 ‘.
These young boys and girls will soon metamorphosis into young men and women soon. In 1960 I was a young punk serving on two aircraft carriers. I soon learned what to do and do it right.
Battle Stations, and the ceremony switching from the recruit hat to sailor
The guy in SIQ 1:29 lmao
Lmao being SIQ was the shit!
Nicholas Dupree pfft wisdom removals
I didn't even notice that, until I read this comment. I remember feeling guilty when I was SIQ
2:43 what was that yellow {wrapper?} she dropped
They shoulda done a 900, 800, all male and a integrated divisions.
Would have loved to see an 800 or all female.
@@jeremyw.5729 the Navy has 800 divisions, which are all male, also every 3rd 900 division is all male. But the rest are integrated with males and females.
oh, good to know.
Are you only talking about 800s and 900s? Cause if not there are several of the regular divisions that are all male.
C92400 wrong I was in ship 14 all males.
I don’t remember boot camp being that pleasant, but I went in, in the early 80’s
0:15 I couldn't contain my laughter😁😁
At 1:00 his pistol and anti terrorism ribbons are switched. Pistol should be the lowest ribbon on his rack. But what do I know, I’m just an E-3. 😅
0:15 lmfao im dying XD
wait if they cant argue how are they to handle it among themselves
when the recruit was being addressed she was allowed to look away.....REALLY???? did someone hand her a HANKY next???????? OMG retired Senior Chief really concerned!
Steve Connolly I’m with you, fellow retired Senior Chief equally concerned. That is the crap that is filtering into the fleet these days. Try that crap in 1996, that was your ass...
You talking 1996, the decade of stress cards?!?!?! One new Sailor pulled one of those one me and asked to see his card. Ripped it up right there! The poor kid cried!
I remember when I went to boot camp in 82, how those old Chiefs said that is not how their Navy is!
I've been retired for 10 years. It's not my Navy anymore, it is there Navy!
Steve Connolly I know I’m not in and I wanted to slap that attitude off
I went in 90 to Great Mistakes. Wearing boondockers running ladders for making a mistake, good times, lol. It sure looks different now. But I wish I got the firefighting and ropehandling experience this series showed. I would have loved that. It was just marching around, sleeping on your feet and trying to power through every day. I gained 15 lbs of muscle though.
3:09 that is what happens when you snitch on someone. Y’all gonna learn today.
10 feet? It how far off the deck of a burning ship?
who else in the comments are rooting for luis?!
Let's gooo, Get up!
