Javier Arroyo yes I know but he’s saying he’s looking at the sun but he was actually looking at the tower. I know that he needed his glasses, Don’t be so concerned

how?
HAHAHAAHAHAA
I don't get it
Love how they could've just made it straight, but decided to just make it still lean a bit.
To make their prediction of the tower falling one day come to pass. Anyway it wouldn't a tourist site if the fault is totally corrected. Once it still leans, it something for us all to learn about and appreciate.
it would never be perfectly straight because when the lean started during construction, the builders compensated by making the walls on the leaning side taller to level it out a bit, it's actually pretty visually noticeable . If it were straightened at the base, it would be curved a bit in the opposite direction of the lean.
@@smenard8388 It would still be a tourist destination. The tower's beautiful. And the churches are also beautiful.
Andre Newcomb I seriously doubt it would stay as popular as it is now vs being completely leveled. How many other famous bell towers can be named without having to do a web search?
The lean brings in tourists.
“We don’t make mistakes, we make happy accidents “ That lean has kept a million people year visiting Pisa. That’s a gansta lean.
This tower is so famous that we always used in sample problems in trigonometry
I’m literally doing trig homework with the tower of Pisa problem while reading this
Lmao my math tutor showed my class an exam question that’s worth 4m with like 4 out of 7 sentences talking about the history of the tower(which is obv irrelevant but cool to know 😎) and the question asks u to find the angle of the shadow or smth. Actually I haven’t learn trigonometry but she just showed us for fun :)
😂😂
I did trigonometry problems of the tower in 1999✋✋✋
Just fold a piece of paper and put it under it

Isn't this an engineering mistake and not an architectural mistake?
Yeah I think so . Engineering deals with that
But what if it was only an architect without an engineer?
Engineers have commonly been around for about 200-300 years, the tower was completed in 1372
@@Rainolx still an engeneering mistake, not an architectural mistake
@@teles448 Geotechnical engineering was not understood back in those days. It's still having us scratching our heads from time to time. A similar incident occurred much more recently in South Padre Island, Texas. Unfortunately, that tower was imploded and the project was scrapped.
Engineering is an integral facet of architectural design. Arches themselves have to do with the properties particularly of concrete and stone in compression and stresses, the form itself and compression distribution forcing the entire underside of the arch closer together actually makes the structure stronger. So yes... architectural failure.
Shows how Humble the tower is, leaning forward with due respect
Maybe it’s leaning backwards due to back pain

I don't know if I would call the leaning tower of Pisa a mistake when it's an 840 + year old engineering marvel that's in perfect condition.
It was never intended to lean. It is a mistake because the original engineers failed to factor in the type of ground they were building on, something that had been a known practice for over a thousand years before it was built.
D. They know...theyre point is....can something so miraculous be a "mistake"

One day in Rome I was approached by a couple of young south Americans that asked me if the tower of Pisa was far from there. Probably they didn't realize that "Pisa" was a town located in another place.
Italy: *Gets an Earthquake*
Tower of Pisa "I WILL NOT FALL!*
Italy is one of the most seismically active countries in Europe. It hasn’t fallen for centuries. It won’t.
I'm no engineer but relieving the ground of some of it's soil on the high side of the tower would have been my first choice.
Exactly, but Italy is famous for it's corrupt politicians and if Moussolini has a cement factory, you can guess whose gonna get the contract to try and fix it.... Even still though, the cement guys could have stilll extracted the clay from the high side!

Tower: leans
Italy: Amazing. We must keep it for 100s of years
Best informative video ever ...it provided everything I wanted to to ..thank you so much
The point they missed here is that even if the lean angle is brought to zero, it will still not be straight. Reason; it was never built straight. Actually they tried to straightened it up during construction but tilting didn't stop and we got a wonder of the world.

The last solution was brilliant. 🤣 It's like what my instructor always say, "the solution is very simple. Don't over think"

It was incredible.
The tower of pisa is like a tower falling down but the speed is -300
It's a shame how the tower gets all the attention, while the baptistry and cathedral are amazingly beautiful.
are those baptistry and cathedral lean?
None of it would get any attention if the tower wasn’t leaning

Who else thought about digging beneath the tower before they mentioned it?
The funny thing is some old engendering are abandoned or we have forgotten bout them but but this one is still standing
Love Discovery UK & the leaning tower of Pisa
When I first saw this in 1969, I didn't even want to step foot inside of it, to climb to the top! Shows you how pronounced, the lean, actually is!
Let me get this straight, we don't even have enough technology today to fill a pothole properly and yet we are criticizing how they built a tower that is still standing today. I don't think so.
Civic investment is different from engineering.
“From-a this-a tower, you can see all-of-a-Pisa! Heeeeyyyy, look-a, I can see-a my mama’s house-a from here-a!” **hops up and down** “HEEEEYYYYYY, MAMA MIA, LOOK AT MEEEEE-A!” **tower tips** “Oops-a!”
London Bridge: "I am falling down"
Leaning Tower: 'Stand tall even when you are about to Fall'
The final solution they came up with was the first solution I thought of. Lol.
The tower hasn't collapsed to this day because the underlying soil is behaving like a plastic, hence is undergoing plastic deformation. As engineering geologists and geotechnical engineers we often use this marvelous to improve the understanding of soil mechanics.
Imperfection is beauty
So it leaned but it still stands today?
"If it looks stupid but it works, it ain't stupid."
Surprisingly, the following piece of information is missing in this video. This piece of information, I believe, can explain why the bell tower did not topple: "Construction of the tower occurred IN THREE STAGES over 199 years. In 1173, the foundations of the tower were laid. The tower began to sink after construction had progressed to the second floor in 1178. This was due to a mere three-metre foundation, set in weak, unstable subsoil, a design that was flawed from the beginning. Construction was subsequently halted for almost a century, as the Republic of Pisa was almost continually engaged in battles. THIS ALLOWED TIME FOR THE UNDERLYING SOIL TO SETTLE. Otherwise, the tower would almost certainly have toppled. Between 1233 and 1272 , the works resumed. In an effort to compensate for the tilt, the engineers BUILT UPPER FLOORS WITH ONE SIDE TALLER THAN THAN THE OTHER. Because of this, the tower is CURVED. Construction was halted again in 1284 when the Pisans were defeated in an important battle. The seventh floor was completed in 1319. The bell-chamber was finally added in 1372. [Source: Wikipedia]
Well explaned
Remember when evil Superman straightened it out as an act of rebellion and then re leaned it to take back the evil deeds
I remember going up this in 1988. Weird feeling climbing the stairs.
Go to Venice, every church tower's a leaning tower, you'd save the cost.
Going to Venice will cost you a lot more than going to Pisa, trust me
@@marcofava in the end I'm trying to say leaning towers are everywhere. Some tilt More some tilt less even this stupid tower isn't the most tilted.
How can you put so little information in a 7 minute video?
To everyone saying that digging on the other side was your first thought: it was mine too, BUT there are other factors at play. I don't know a ton about it so I can't say for sure, but i assume the reason they didn't do this before was because of a lack of technology. To burrow into soil that has had a tower that heavy pressing down on it for that many centuries has to take an incredible amount of power--and, on top of that, to do it without destabilizing the tower with all the movement from said power. I don't know for sure, but i think it's a safe bet to say that the engineers weren't just plain stupid.
I would be very interested in a follow up video on why nobody did this before!
Is that the shouty guy from the Cillit Bang commercial?

i can imagine how this tower rolls its eyeballs mocking these poor engineers lol
From the first depiction of the foundation, I figured the best solution would be to undermine the high side. Additionally, I would have gotten it down to between 2 and 3 degrees, installed friction piles for support then poured a cement slab under the tower to keep it in place.
I would have ripped it down and made a better one that isn't so boring and ugly
@@voidremoved Well then it's a good job you're not in charge of anything anywhere whatsoever and also do not live in Europe.
I would have left it to see how far it could go. Then rebuild it properly after it fell.
Structural Engineering Masterpiece
Lol at the start of the video I was like “why not just dig a bit out on the other side and let it fall back” guess I shoulda Been an engineer
DemonCore44 same bruh
Maybe it can change the direction of incline and could be called floating foundation design to respond to earth change to reduce extreme change
The fact that they were able to build that tower already amazed me lol
Look at Santa Maria del Fiore in Florence. It was built in 1500 and it still the biggest bricks dome in the world. No one is and was better than the italians in engineering.
They should dig another time underneath the higher side to make it 3°, otherwise any earthquake or natural disaster can crush this great tower down. The soil underneath the tower is ex-swamp region, so there must be a layer of semi solid soil that previously caused it to lean. Also it seems risky to go up in top of the tower, public access can be lethal if something wrong happens.
I kept of wondering what would happen if the tower fell while people were being interviewed
There are 2 other leaning towers in Pisa: S. Nicola and S. Michele degli Scalzi!
We are masters in amazing architectural mistakes!
Just remove dirt from the opposite side so it can balance itself.
Edit: never mind they did that.
They did it but they decided to preserve the tilt.

Thanks to all people who have pushed this tower in the pictures . See how so many push tilted the tower. Now we have push it from other side guys.
That part in Superman 3 with pisa brought me here.
I literally thought of the last solution 3 minutes into the video.
The leaning tower of Pisa wont fall due to something called dymanic soil structure interaction, which describes the relationship between the soils softness and the tower's height and rigidty.
Piza makes every rapper jealous with that lean
Lol, I thought about their "brilliant solution" as soon as I saw their first attempt and I'm no engineer. I'm sure a ton of people also thought about digging the other side for balancing it hahaha
