Carl Jackson was something else - respect he had for Glenn Campbell was absolute and Glenn’s daughter was in very safe hands. This is a treasure to listen to!
In 1972, when Glen was performing at the Clay County Fair in Spencer, Iowa, a friend and I were invited by Glen into his trailer after we had stopped to get his autograph. Carl Jackson was there also, so they both signed a program for each of us, but before we left they also played Wichita Lineman and Gentle on my Mind. I was 25 then, and am now 75 - but I remember that day like it was yesterday. Both Glen and Carl were so nice, and so talented, and it is so good to see Carl sing Gentle on my Mind and play that guitar. I was very impressed with his banjo skills back then, and am just as impressed with his guitar skills now. It's sad to think of that horrible disease - Alzheimers, that took Glen Campbell's life, but I'm sure he's playing for God and his angels up in heaven now. And I'd like to add, that besides being extremely attractive, Glen's daughter Ashley is talented both vocally and with that banjo.
Glen was always a modest man. He was impressed, surprised that "real, famous musicians" would include him in their groups. I watch over and over this one -- ua-cam.com/video/ETkzK9pXMio/v-deo.html -- in which he looks around at all the other country stars and almost can't believe he's there with THEM!
Good Lord! This guy just sang amazing and absolutely SHREDDED the guitar solo. Why are people like him not the "big stars" instead of these artists we have today?
Wow . Just found this video & absolutely beautiful singers & musicians. Video I love feeling quite emotional listening as beautiful memories of this song. Meanwhile my country is in unrest due to the betrayal of its citizens. I am happy 😊 I have found this video & will listen more 😊 please pray for strong fair Government for the people in the UK 🇬🇧 thank you .
Ashley has a beautiful voice, but she absolutely KILLS on the banjo. I could listen to her play it all day. Great job Glen, be proud of your daughter, wherever you are, RIP.
I sat in my dads old ford truck while he worked as carpenter, on summer break we returned from california to visit our father, texas born, it was always good to come home to the Lone Star State.....while daddy worked building houses I Sat out in the truck on hot summer texas days with nothin to do but scan the radio for my favorite song Rhinestone Cowboy...........Thank You Glen....Your an ICON forever
Carl,s voice, pitch, timing are among the best I ever heard. Clear diction and stunning guitar work. Ashley is a credit to her Dad. The whole group are on a superior level. I am so glad to have discovered this goldmine of serious talent. Thank you.
This is my first time seeing Ashley and Wow is she special. Had no idea that Glen even had a daughter, let alone such an amazing talent. It’s a downright shame that she isn’t more well known.
Probably one of the best covers of this beautiful Glenn Campbell song. Whenever I hear this song it's like listening to a tribute directly to Glenn Campbell. I hope I can say it, but what a lovely and talented daughter Ashley Campbell is, and dedicated to preserving her dad's legacy as well as securing hers.
I listen to this version every single evening. Ashley is a very TALENTED young lady as is most of the younger children. Carl was a guest on Glen Campbell's show MANY, MANY TIMES! Glen always said he learned how to play the guitar from Carl. I doubt that Glen needed Carl but they were definitely very good friends and played together until Glen couldn't sing anymore. Glen Campbell never forgot how to play the guitar. He just didn't know what he was playing. One in a TRILLION!! R.I.P.
I saw Glenn and Carl three times in Brisbane Australia. The third concert, we were in the middle of an airline strike, but Glenn and Carl drove 1200 miles - sydney to brisbane and return so as not to disappoint us. It was virtually unplugged - and it was 1974. Great memories - what a team.
Carl was in Glen’s backing band Caladonia(sp?) from the 70s up through the mid 80s. He played banjo, fiddle, and mandolin mostly in the band. But also guitar. He’s a very talented musician and went on to do work as a producer as well. I’m sure you get that Glen would’ve been joking, but in case someone reads this and thinks that might actually have been the case: If Glen said that about Carl teaching him - he was giving Carl a compliment and clearly joking in his typically humble way. Glen played guitar before Carl was born. Literally. Glen was born in 1936 and started playing at age 4. Carl was born in 1953. By 1954, Glen had already landed a full time gig playing on the radio and a local TV program in Albuquerque. And by the time that he and Carl actually crossed paths Glen had worked for nearly a decade as a guitarist for the Wrecking Crew. He played on the studio versions of songs by everyone from Elvis to Sinatra, The Beach Boys (he actually toured with them in Brian’s role briefly), the Mamas and the Papas, and a lot of Phil Spector’s heyday stuff. He did that, playing on basically every genre of music with the best sight readers in the game, without knowing how to read music. Which is astonishing.
Carl Jackson has been a friend of the family since Glen discovered him all those long years ago. Carl is a whizz not only on the banjo, but any stringed instrument he touches. First time I ever saw him, he was indeed playing banjo. In fact, in my record collection, I have his banjo album.
I have played Bluegrass music or over 50 years, patterned after Tony Rice but Carl is still one of my favorite musicians. What a player! Great version of this song!
Aaah like....WOW! I never heard of any of Glen Campbell's children. This young lady is fantastic! What really caught my ear at first was Carl's voice that guy he's got a sweet voice. Love his tone. Pitch perfect. I didn't know about them until about 15 minutes ago but definitely a big fan! This is the best thing about UA-cam finding these artists you've never seen or heard before. Again, just wow! all of them, all the musicians.
Oh My!! Understatement!! You KNOW he's proud of his daughter. I saw a clip of him and her playing together. She surely inherited his awesome talent.....an extention of Glen Campbell in female form!! He's still with us, though he's gone.
Back in the early 70's I did not appreciate the complexity and talent, harmony needed to sing this song. Glen Campbell was one of a kind. This Jackson guy absolutely nailed the cover.
This is just so beautiful to listen to. Takes me back to some lovely memories when I married my first wife on 1972. Thankyou for your excellent cover guys.
Amazingly clear voice. The driving banjo keeps the song moving. The leads on guitar and banjo are amazing, not flubbing a note in one-take in front of a live audience. Not like rock where mistakes can hide in the storm. The classiest hobo song ever.
Goose bumps - how grateful am I to have ears to hear when Glen came out with this originally right on through to this moment. Thank you all, and, of course, to Glen where ever he sings now.
The arrangement and everything about is glorious... sometimes you hear a song in a new light, that you were kinda on the fence about, and you just go ahhhhhh. He's an incredible voice too.
Our buddy Glenn Campbell smiles from heaven as he hears this touch of nostalgic sweetness! So good; the memories flow through us like a lullabye! (Sorry -- I can't get the spelling right for that last word!). Love, Cav.
That was beautiful - a real tribute to a great singer and guitarist. Their voices blend beautifully and nothing needs to be said about the quality of the guitar & banjo playing!
Great job Carl, Ashley and band, GC would be proud, must say, hadn't heard of you guys before but will definitely be keeping an eye out for y'all, Carl, you are the bee's knee's superb, thanks, god bless.
That was just so good. I am a Welshman living in Japan.....my Japanese wife was amazed,,,,,,,me? memories of my former life. One of the best covers I have ever heard! That was so good!
Carl Jackson was something else - respect he had for Glenn Campbell was absolute and Glenn’s daughter was in very safe hands. This is a treasure to listen to!
What do you mean, "was"?
Still is!
Very well said, giving respect to all concerned. From the smile on her face, I imagine it evokes some fond memories of her Dad.

In 1972, when Glen was performing at the Clay County Fair in Spencer, Iowa, a friend and I were invited by Glen into his trailer after we had stopped to get his autograph. "Elton Jarvis. He played it too slow." He played it too slow. "You did it faster" that was it "well play it the way you did" Ok ❤
Superb Comments Guys From John South Africa
Thank you Papa, wonderful story and comments.

he is a big star !!!!!
I believe he's covered it better than anybody else I've ever heard .
Great question!
Laurent Farsey...but doesn't receive the accolades he deserves.

Carl Jackson does real justice to this iconic song.
He sure does.

Glen and Ashley are absolute treasures............but so is Carl Jackson. Thank You, Lord, for such harmonious incredibility!
My late mother’s favourite song. Brings a tear to my eye even now. Beautiful.
Love this rendition and love the fact that a young lady like Ashley Campbell is keeping real country music alive! Carl Jackson is phenomenal. Wow!
Beautiful beautiful beautiful. Ashley is a proud daughter of her great papa. I pray they will be together again one day.
Hopefully not too soon. She's still a young woman with a very long career to look forward to.
I"m quite sure that Glenn is smiling down on his beautiful young lady and is very proud of Ashley!🙏🙏🙏
The world lost a true great pioneer in music when Glen was called home. Glad to see his beautiful and talented daughter carry on his legacy.
