Thankyou for the video. We arrive in Chios and have the day free before taking the boat to Athens later that evening. We will take your advice and visit the restraunt for the loukoumades.
DO NOT take her advice, unless you like JUNK FOOD and EMPTY CALORIES of the worst kind. IF you want to eat crappy food, you can save a fortune and do it in the USA.
Nice wrap on Chios. I’m yet to watch the second part. My father was born there and I was only there in August last year. Fun fact: it’s the birth place of Homer and the great Greek composer Mikis Theodorakis (Zorba The Greek). Your video made me feel like I was only there yesterday! Cheers
Wow, I didn’t know that! There is still so much to learn about the island if I ever get a chance to go back. This area of the world is full of so much history (and beauty, too!). I hope you have the opportunity to return, as well. Thanks for taking the time to watch!
@@ohsopom He is not 100% accurate. Homer's birthplace is still unknown, but there was an ancient saying that identified Chios as one of SEVEN cities that claimed him as their own. It actually starts with SMYRNA (Ismir): "Smyrni, Chios, Kolofon, Argos, Ithaki, Athina, Pylos" (I write from memory). Second, THeodorakis was from Crete, (Chania) but was maybe born in Chios. I was born in Crete, but moved to CHios from 1 to 9 years old.
Hi. You keep mispronouncing the island I grew up from 1 to 9 years old. IT IS NOT PRONOUNCED "KIOS". Kios is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT, MUCH SMALLER ISLAND! The island you visited is XIOS, pronounced "CHI" like in "HAVE" or "HERE".
Hi.. Can i use 20 seconds from your videos for our presentation for Bulgarıan citizen about Chios Island.? I will be happy if you give permission. Thank you very much..
PS you cannot be serious if you call this a "bumpy ride", or you have not taken a lot of boat rides so you can compare. Turkey is VERY CLOSE TO CHIOS. In some places the distance is only TWO MILES, so even a slow amateur can SWIM ACROSS in less than an hour or two!
Two things: First, your omission, in the wrap-up, of the Geneoese era of Chios for a good 3-4 centuries prior to the Ottoman occupation, is unforgivable. Second, although as you correctly mentioned the massacre of Chios yielded 30000 victims, the English subtitles mention 3000. Good job, otherwise. Now, you can’t do much about correcting the historical record that pertains to the Genovese era of Chios but you surely can correct the number that you stated in the subtitles: the Ottomans slaughtered 30000 not 3000 Chios people. They were your words. Just correct the subtitles please.
@@ericsugimoto Actually, it is. Unforgivable! You know why? because genoese architecture and visual heritage is evident everywhere around the island (especially in the Kambos area, also in Pyrgi village but also throughout the island’s structures.) If, as is the case, no reference is made to the geneose period then how is the visitor supposed to know where this beautiful heritage came from? So, unforgivable? Absolutely! Dramatic? A very inadequate way to describe an omission of this caliber.
Of all the great foods, you liked these very unhealthy Loukoumades? These are god-awful and crude, as you said, like donuts (but different). It may well be they are the same as the "loukmas' in Turkey. I'd rather have a Baklava with pistachios from Gazi Antep, or a very healthy version we used to make, with zero butter (all olive oil!)
Instead of criticizing and hating the video, why don’t you make a good one yourself.. thank you for the effort you put in this video ❤ and we don’t care how you pronounce Chios. 🤗
Oh, I hadn't heard of that before. We didn't notice any issues when we were there and I was actually surprised at how few tourists there were. Perhaps there have been some changes since then. Thanks for watching my video. I appreciate it :)
Unlike many other Greek Islands, CHios was NEVER TOURISTY, and in fact when the FIRST charter flight arrived there in 1989, they told me that the city got out the... "philarmonic" and greeted them!!!
THANK YOU VER NICE. 💐💐💐🌹🌹🌹🌹
Thank you so much 😊

That sounds great! I hope you enjoy both their savory and sweet options. Enjoy your trip and thanks for watching!!!

This is Egyptian Island

Don’t think the wrap up is meant to be a full historical account of Chios. “Unforgivable” is a bit dramatic

There are still refugees here, somebody has to look after them till their status is asserteined
That's interesting to learn. Thanks for watching!

@visumaxm3048 Thank you for the kind words. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch!
A couple of years back Chios was always in the news as being overrun with “asylum seekers” so tourists were not going there.

Lots of Turks many of them were

@@anastassiosperakis2869 It wasn’t comparable to, say, Santorini or Mykonos, but it had thriving tourism.
