Dorka's save to prevent a backcourt violation was, for me, the play of the game. She doesn't have much of a vertical jump, she's not that strong, but she is a smart, smart basketball player.
It was a heady play but wouldn't have happened if the refs had called a foul like they should have when Lou was getting manhandled by two villanovians a few seconds before.
It was an outstanding play. Actually, Dorka, my favorite player, is physically strong, but not really quick and does not have really good hands. I think that injuries have really wrecked her shot. I would so love it for her if she could have more shot finesse around the basket and shoot better 3's.
I agree @djhmo5...I recall hearing her say earlier this year that splint she had on her thumb was affecting her. Also consider that this was the wrist she completely destroyed a year ago. She is so unbelievably smart and in my opinion, that makes up for all her minor flaws. You can’t win without kids like her on the court, and that showed in December.
It was a great play. Dorka is plenty strong, but as others have mentioned, she is missing some finishing touches on her shots, inside and out. Hand & wrist injuries do that And Dorka is a solid decision maker, team player and a strong leader this year. One of the many rocks on this year's roster to anchor the team.
Real players always pull through! 2 days off to rest one day walk thru practice then good to go again! You got this ladies! Thank you MJ for the quick cut, it's my only way to watch the games, appreciate your work!
This game just made it very evident that this team is so tired! Especially Aaliyah!! She wasn’t even playing like herself, alittle was Villanovas defense but more was just her. Honestly she just looked tired and that scares me because that’s how people get hurt. Even if he need to put Amari or Ayanna in for 2 mins for her a couple of times I think that would have helped. Dorka stepped up this game. She was the most aggressive I’ve seen her all year. The paint game was missing because they were tired. They would have dominated like they were in the beginning if the stayed with the paint game. Honestly this game does worry me because they are showing fatigue and that can hurt them further down the line…
Lou and really the whole team was cold as ice on shooting for large parts of the game and that meant trying for layups, so V just defended that. Not shooting well often means tired legs, not great defense.
Thanks again MJ for consistently posting the games really appreciate your time and effort !!!! UCONN truly gutted out this win and now they get to rest. 5 games in 11 days is rough but they did it and won them all which is amazing. I really hope that Amari gets some decent development for the remainder of the season because a Dorka, Amari and Aaliyah line up could be lethal. Also, once Ayanna gets more under control and more confident she will be a beast. Caroline and Azzi coming back will have an immediate benefit and i think UCONN has a chance to make a deep run again in March. Plus if Ines builds some confidence in these final games, she can be more of a relief for Nika. Also rebounding is key. A little more toughness on the rebounds, which I think Ayanna can contribute heavily to, it will help them tremendously.
Yeah, Nika would benefit from a little breather now and then. Ines has a hard time with the press and gets bogged down when double teamed. She is learning though. Also, she's only 5'9". She is maturing and will be a real asset in time. Amari didn't play at all but I think she would been eaten alive by Villanova. I still think think there's hope but time is running out as she'll be a junior in the fall.
@@erics9213 that is true. I think it’s best that Amari transfers because once everyone gets healthy, plus the class of 23 comes in, she won’t see any playing time
@@usveteran9893 I think as long as they play her a limited amount of minutes like 15, she should be fine. They should keep a brace on her for added support
Nika, you beauty! That 3 from Dorka, and Aubrey's fitness, has saved the day! Tired, you could see it in defense....But, we WON! I wish we could get more from the bench...
OK, I've said a lot of nice things about every UConn WBB player except Aubrey Griffith, and now, her low post play has demanded that she be recognized for the superb athleticism she has. She has speed running the floor. You don't want to play race to the hoop with her because you will lose that track meet. However, she is now showing that she is super quick in the low post. I like that in a woman: she spins, she shoots, & the defender can't catch up. Moreover, I've spotted something Aubrey can use to her advantage: she can stop on dime, and then, take one step and she's at full speed. If the defender can't stop, and most won't be able to, Griffith has a bunny jumper, a change of direction opportunity, or a spin opportunity. Aubrey, you must get with a Phil Handy type because you haven't even scratched the depth of your talent. Go UA-cam Phil Handy videos, Aubrey. I like it when UConn has Edwards, Juhaze, & Aubrey Griffith taking turns in the low post because they're shooting bunnies and getting free throws: In fact, I like it when any girl in a UConn jersey goes into the low post & demands the ball. That's because any of them can knock down 70% of their bunnies and 75% of their free throws, while they can get their defenders in foul trouble. Let's face it: LouLou had her first stinker-game, so this game was another Big Girl Bunny Hop Crew!
Thanks MJL! Oh there are times in this I just wanted to look away and have the real team come out onto the floor. Oh em gee. Like the others have commented our ladies are just wiped out tired.
I’m ashamed to admit that I watched the game earlier today and I turned it off early 4th Q. They looked too tired and didn’t have much left in the tank. I’m sorry UConn for losing faith.
According to Geno, when he watches basketball, he watches the tape version. He wants to know the final score before he watches, too much stress otherwise.
Thanks again MJL Those girls look tired, very low scoring, I know it was a tough physical game but to only score 63, hope they get some more players back soon.
As a UCONN fan, I was on the edge of my chair the whole game. Villanova is better than I thought they were. Lou Lopez has a terrible shooting night but she played good defense against a tough team. I think UCONN is very tired, especially having to play 40 minutes each game on top of the travel. Kudos to Dorka for really stepping up this game when needed.
Ok everyone, the team is tired, we get it, they get it, the entire country has got it; move on. Another impressive aspect of Senechal's game - her shot wasn't dropping, but she never let up her defensive intensity; Senechal is tough as they come on defense. And, she never quit moving on offense, she was constantly trying to give her teammates as many openings as possible. She has got a great mind and a big heart.
Villanova has nothing to be ashamed of in this game. If they played at Villanova it would have been different. I think UConn has some people who need to get better and back on the floor soon.
Gutsy performance from a tired team! I think Geno wanted to keep everyone in there so these players could figure it out on their own. And they did great down the stretch. Like it or not these possibly could be the starting 5 for awhile with Azzi and Caroline being out. Hopefully Ayana, Amari, and Ines can play in the Providence game so the players can rest for SC on Sunday.
If i were to choose a player that must be exhausted, it would be Nika Muhl. She must have the most minutes played iat UCONN. Playing point guard is the most tiring position in basketball. You are constantly on the move. Having the ball most of the time a point guard is also always pressured. Not to mention having to guard the same position on the opposing team.
I'm just glad 'Nova kept pulling that #10 off the floor, Dalce, I think? I know Conn was tired, and she got in some foul trouble but she was a beast on D for the 'Cats. buncha blocks, took a couple charges, 5 boards in like 20min? thank you for sitting! refs let the girls play a bit... both ends. dorka & Aaliyah both driving bodies hard, Nika & her sneaky chippy self :) . Nova definitely had their share of hacks, fore arms, shoves too. not mad at them tho'... goes without saying everybody brings 'A' game to uconn, and they know the conn's on a brutal part of the schedule, with crazy a short bench? If I'm an opponent I'm bringing as much physical as I can get away with. only makes sense. Major kudo's to them for withstanding the storm! Nika made some really important shots tonite!
Amazing performance by Aubrey and Nika. Cant say that for the officials - again - wonder what they are doing but clearly not their job. Aaliyah an Lou never found their way into the game, but i think part of it is not getting foul calls when they thried to score and Villanova just got away with it. Dorka is losing the ball way to often in the paint, she needs to develope some ballhandling skills it is ridicolous who easy she loses the ball. I wonder how long this team of 5 players can go on playing (almost) 40 minutes every game every 3 days facing teams that try to "play" extra physical against UCONN. Geno obviously thinks the bench cant fill in the spot right now when games are that close.
Geno must trust the bench. They can make miracles. He must/should gamble a bit. The starters were exhausted obviously. They need to rest man, March is coming hot.
Dorka is good player but has a bad habit of bringing the ball down below her chest, in the paint. Players half her size can swat the ball away. Good teams will do that all night. She needs the ball to remain high above her head more and shoot then. Go huskies!
Come on coach, 40 minute running without sub is a massacre. How can you guarantee that these ladies will make it up till March if they're swallowed by fatigue? Give 'em bench time to shine...well, just saying...still my RESPECT to coach Geno...
That alone, the change of score would P.O. me to drive the team to victory If I was Nika.... It should not be allowed to happen... If you advance the game then you can not go back to change the score.... Ref or Score's Table... When doubt then stop the game and review if one play not necessary a score is allowed to happen then no change possible...What would happen if it did happen at the end of the game a team would lose then it becomes a political thing and the game is not pure any more!!!!
