lol, so glad someone else said something, I wanted to last night. And this was on FOX… makes you understand why people think women’s basketball is stupid. These women chase all over the place, very poor commentators.
Toward the end of the game, I really did not appreciate the comment these announcers made about Nika taking a 3-point shot. She made two attempts the whole game to score, and they commented about it. It's clear the ref was making phantom calls and these announcers are biased. Good win UCONN!
About 19:20 Edwards gets cracked in the jaw and gets called for a turnover....a couple minutes later Muhl gets called for a touch foul...the officiating kinda stunk...but i thought UConn did a good job and stuck to their game.....only a handful of games left in the regular season and nothing is going to come easy....
Amazing Huskies made this happen. Lou second game in the row where she was able to hit her shots, Nika 8 assists so important for the whole team, Dorka strong in the paint and outside and Caroline made an impact in her 22 minutes. Carolines return is so important, she might not be the fastest or most athletic but she plays with a lot of IQ on and off the ball. Only wish Aubrey ad Aaliyah would get back to 100%. They play strong but can do way more than they did in the last couple games. Also notworthy how they keep a player like Maddy Siegrist mostly in check. Good defensive effort. Whereas Villanova often times really looked to me playing dirty and trying more to beat up the Huskies than to play basketball. A lot of questionable foul calls and non calls thoughout the game. With a few games now where officials looked decent this again was an example of how bad officials were this season.
Soraite, that was a good summary. You are right about Caroline Ducharme. She knows how to get open underneath. She was free more often much more than she was found. It's obvious she should be starting and Griffith should be sitting. That's because Aubrey can't shoot from the outside, doesn't square up on defense, has no idea what to do in the post,and never creates a shot for someone else. Whereas, Caroline does all of that & maked the three.

I know, I know - turnovers. Let's do this, keep track of games UConn loses BECAUSE of turnovers. Other stats: out rebounded V 47-25; made 17 freethrows to 6. Turnovers aren't the only stat that affects the outcome of a game. (Oh, and how many of UConn turnovers were caused by fouls that were not called)
That start was the dirtiest refereeing I can recall ever seeing. Rebounding was better. Stopping Siegrist went well. V beat on our players and the refs wouldn't call it. That's sickening. Dorka was destroying them with the shot-fake and dribble. What could V do though, they had to stop Lou. It's a shame Nika couldn't hit a few shots to spread the lead more. Everybody seemed off on FTs. Take care of Carol. She's a huge help.

Turnovers can be the difference in a win or loss come the post season. Also other people have to start stepping up and being a offense threat other than Lou. She Carries a lot of UConn’s offense and her big games truly help UConn pull out the win but that has to change. UConn has to force other team’s defense to work hard and be a threat from everywhere on the floor. They have the pieces to have a lethal inside and outside game but they have to execute more. It’s little things that UConn needs to improve on that’s keeping them from being a really really good team. I will admit that I’ve given up on the hope of geno playing his bench. I know it’s not going to happen unless they are blowing a team out so now I can only hope that with the pieces UConn has for next year that the bench will play more and help lead this team to a championship. A lot of people don’t think this team will last with only a 6, possible 7 person rotation but I wouldn’t count them out just yet. @@janetmrakovich883 they aren’t as high caliber players as geno has had in the past like the squad that won 4 chips in a row. They had their bad moments as well but they were pretty much unstoppable. These players are still top tier, excellent players but aren’t has high of a caliber. And of course I know it’s like don’t compare players from then verses now but you just observe the quality of players through the years. yes I absolutely believe in this squad.
I don't believe those teams had extensive injuries like this team. Let's take Stewie off the floor for a year and oh, Moriah Jefferson and Morgan Tuck or Kia Nurse. Then have the remaining players play 34-40 minutes every game. I think the outcome would be measurably different.

It was about the fact that I’ve seen in the comments time and time again this plea for geno to play his bench because the starters are tired. What I was getting at was that in the past geno has really only ever played 6 or 7 players, with a fully healthy team or not. it’s not about the injuries it’s about the simple fact that, the name of the game at UConn is at most only 7 players are going to play. Unfortunately only 5 players this year have been playing majority of the time due to injuries. Even when Azzi comes back it still will only be a 7 player rotation. That was my point. When I talk about the past players being of a higher caliber is because I believe they were simply more dominant and we didn’t question as much when geno would only play them the whole game. So the reason why I talked about the caliber of the players because It’s like people have pity for this team and these players and I’m like, yeah it absolutely sucks that some of the best players on the team, matter of fact, in the country are on the bench but UConn is fine and they are still a good team.

Where Amari is concerned, I have yet to see a fire in her to get on the floor. They need to step up in practice first. If they take the floor and cause chaos, what is the point. Rest vs chaos.

Aubrey seemed to catch some of the fumble-itis a couple of times. Handling the ball is taken for granted so much of the time, but it takes mental quickness and when they're tired it's more difficult.
After watching the game again, the ladies did pretty well in the fourth quarter to regain the lead again. Hats off for their grit! Good win ladies! Go Huskies!
Not to take away from UC’s stellar D and energy level but…..I thought Nova played poorly and they certainly didn’t shoot well. It seemed as though the stage was too big for them: huge stakes, national audience, full house. Missed key free throws and wide open shots. If UC could cut back on the turnovers, they’d be a beast. When the heck is Azzi coming back?

As to the announcers' annoying constant babble, here's how I feel: EVEN DUCT TAPE CAN'T FIX STUPID, BUT IT COULD MUFFLE THE SOUND. Thank God there's very few games on FOX---then again, there's always the MUTE button (with Dwight Yoakam's music playing instead)..wish I had thought of that idea sooner.
Here's just a little something to put in the mind regarding turnovers. Looking at Top 25 games on Sat, 2/18, and Fri 2/17; the winner's turnover is first, loser's turnovers is in parentheses - Sat 2/18 22(9), 15(16), 17(19), 15(20), 19(13) - Fri 2/17 11(7), 14(23), 14(14), 20(14). In just two of those games did either team manage single digit tos. In three of those games the winner had as many, or more turnovers than the loser. Turnovers happen everywhere, and to Top 25 teams, and in double digits.
So Olsen can shove her butt into Nika’a stomach and that’s not a foul but Nika puts her forearm defensively on Olsen’s back like every other defender ever and it’s a foul? Make it make sense!!!

Thank you so much for posting. What an awful game. Villanova should be embarrassed. Wanted to watch a basketball game and I witnessed a mugging. Seeing obvious biased is never fun. The Big East or the NCAA won’t do anying about it…sadly. But whatever…I haven’t seen a meat grinder clown show of officiating like that in a long time. Reminded me of one of the referees from the movie Hoosiers.
Turnovers! The Achilles heal of this team, one brain dead play after another. It’s like they lose confidence, panic and lose the ability to think clearly. This should have been a blowout instead of a nail biter. They have so much great talent and work ethic, but turnovers will be the end of this team’s run to a championship. Nika needs to slow down on offense, she plays so much faster than her ability to maintain control. It’s very possible to play fast and still under control. Most point guards are point guards because of their ability to do just that. Where has Aubrey disappeared to? I thought this team would be a lock when she came out of her shell half way through the season, but now she plays like she’s afraid to shoot, passing up open shots and ignoring opportunities to drive to the basket. Just about every time she touches the ball, it looks like she just wants to get rid of it as fast as possible. I don’t understand. She’s such an amazing athlete and a very good shooter. She should be a scoring leader on this team, but she is so timid on offense. It doesn’t make sense!!! It’s great that the Huskies have been able to fight their way to win after win, still being so short-handed, but if they eliminate just half of their unforced turnovers, their games would be so much easier and much less stressful. They have so much talent, grit, and stamina, but also a low basketball IQ that is really hurting them. It’s a very correctable problem. Not sure why they haven’t made a dent as of yet. I’ve seen some really bad officiating in some games this year, but this was the first game in which I felt it was very one-sided against the Huskies. Several elbows to the head without a whistle. Several shot attempts under the basket where the shooter was hacked and no whistle. Nika gets pushed into Seagrist at the end of the game and called for a foul. It was pretty bad and biased from start to finish. Great to see Caroline back. Her contributions will be invaluable as she regains her form and gets increased playing time.
Spot on Jeffjoy! I wondered the same things while watching the game! Nika didn’t drive into the lane this game at all? Aubrey has been not herself. She did get stuffed several times so that could have shaken her confidence? The post players moves are unfortunately predictable at this point. Any team watching the films of their play know how to block them. The players need to adjust that. Ever since the SC game, UConn post players have struggled with all their signature moves. I think the WHOLE women’s league watched that game and since then, Dorka and Aaliyah have struggled. The turnovers are still mind boggling! How we win with over 20 turn overs shows that this team is a mental mess, but it comes and goes. It has been hard to watch these games. I almost put a hole into my screen watching these games! But like all fans and or parents, you excuse the stupidity and still support your troubled children! Haha Go Huskies!
Yeah…Aubry at times looks hesitant on offense. She was much more “in the flow” earlier in the season. Yet she’s such a talent that you can overlook some parts of her game. You’re spot on about turnovers. It’s a statement about their defense that they’ve been able to win despite those pesky turnovers!
Does absence of paige affects this much. Team struggles. Everyone looking for the person who takes the burden and make the play easy. No court vision mostly. Its pity for the top team lik uconn play like a B team.
This "B" team as you call them has 24 wins against 4 losses, and is rated in the top ten in the country and currently holds down a #1 seed in the ncaa tournament. So you can take your B team for a hike.

As to the announcers' annoying constant babble, here's how I feel: EVEN DUCT TAPE CAN'T FIX STUPID, BUT IT COULD MUFFLE THE SOUND. Thank God there's very few games on FOX---then again, there's always the MUTE button (with Dwight Yoakam's music playing instead)..wish I had thought of that idea sooner.
Here's just a little something to put in the mind regarding turnovers. Looking at Top 25 games on Sat, 2/18, and Fri 2/17; the winner's turnover is first, loser's turnovers is in parentheses - Sat 2/18 22(9), 15(16), 17(19), 15(20), 19(13) - Fri 2/17 11(7), 14(23), 14(14), 20(14). In just two of those games did either team manage single digit tos. In three of those games the winner had as many, or more turnovers than the loser. Turnovers happen everywhere, and to Top 25 teams, and in double digits.
With UConn playing half assed, and Ref help, Villanova still couldn't beat them.

Agreed. Some of the UConn players are looking for the foul when they shoot. That has to stop and they need to finish their shots, period! It has become an annoying trend that won’t fly in the tournament! The missed layups are part this weakness! Good players finish shots. Go Huskies!

Thank you so much for posting. What an awful game. Villanova should be embarrassed. Wanted to watch a basketball game and I witnessed a mugging. Seeing obvious biased is never fun. The Big East or the NCAA won’t do anying about it…sadly. But whatever…I haven’t seen a meat grinder clown show of officiating like that in a long time. Reminded me of one of the referees from the movie Hoosiers.

Turnovers! The Achilles heal of this team, one brain dead play after another. It’s like they lose confidence, panic and lose the ability to think clearly. This should have been a blowout instead of a nail biter. They have so much great talent and work ethic, but turnovers will be the end of this team’s run to a championship.
Nika needs to slow down on offense, she plays so much faster than her ability to maintain control. It’s very possible to play fast and still under control. Most point guards are point guards because of their ability to do just that.
Where has Aubrey disappeared to? I thought this team would be a lock when she came out of her shell half way through the season, but now she plays like she’s afraid to shoot, passing up open shots and ignoring opportunities to drive to the basket. Just about every time she touches the ball, it looks like she just wants to get rid of it as fast as possible. I don’t understand. She’s such an amazing athlete and a very good shooter. She should be a scoring leader on this team, but she is so timid on offense. It doesn’t make sense!!!
It’s great that the Huskies have been able to fight their way to win after win, still being so short-handed, but if they eliminate just half of their unforced turnovers, their games would be so much easier and much less stressful. They have so much talent, grit, and stamina, but also a low basketball IQ that is really hurting them. It’s a very correctable problem. Not sure why they haven’t made a dent as of yet.
I’ve seen some really bad officiating in some games this year, but this was the first game in which I felt it was very one-sided against the Huskies. Several elbows to the head without a whistle. Several shot attempts under the basket where the shooter was hacked and no whistle. Nika gets pushed into Seagrist at the end of the game and called for a foul. It was pretty bad and biased from start to finish.
Great to see Caroline back. Her contributions will be invaluable as she regains her form and gets increased playing time.
Spot on Jeffjoy! I wondered the same things while watching the game! Nika didn’t drive into the lane this game at all? Aubrey has been not herself. She did get stuffed several times so that could have shaken her confidence? The post players moves are unfortunately predictable at this point. Any team watching the films of their play know how to block them. The players need to adjust that. Ever since the SC game, UConn post players have struggled with all their signature moves. I think the WHOLE women’s league watched that game and since then, Dorka and Aaliyah have struggled. The turnovers are still mind boggling! How we win with over 20 turn overs shows that this team is a mental mess, but it comes and goes. It has been hard to watch these games. I almost put a hole into my screen watching these games! But like all fans and or parents, you excuse the stupidity and still support your troubled children! Haha

Yeah…Aubry at times looks hesitant on offense. She was much more “in the flow” earlier in the season. Yet she’s such a talent that you can overlook some parts of her game. You’re spot on about turnovers. It’s a statement about their defense that they’ve been able to win despite those pesky turnovers!

Does absence of paige affects this much. Team struggles. Everyone looking for the person who takes the burden and make the play easy. No court vision mostly. Its pity for the top team lik uconn play like a B team.
This "B" team as you call them has 24 wins against 4 losses, and is rated in the top ten in the country and currently holds down a #1 seed in the ncaa tournament. So you can take your B team for a hike.
