Even in the moment where he could repent, Fernand's wicked heart showed no remorse. In that moment, he still believed that his nobility validated his heinous actions. He did not understand that noble birth does not equal to worth and that Edmond's character made him more noble and esteemed, than he could ever be. Jealousy is indeed rottenes.
It cut off the best part, where Mondego learns that the boy was never his child. Mercedes was pregnant with Dantes' son when Dantes was betrayed and she only married him to ensure the safety of their unborn child. The Ultimate Humiliation that Edmond Dantes didn't account for when he was in prison and which fully broke Fernand Mondego.
Alexandre Dumas read Homer (Dumas A., My Memoirs, Paris, Books, 2003, p. 590.) and The Odyssey influenced the story of the book. But Dumas refused to make Albert the count's son because Edmond and Mercedes were not married and virginity was important. Mercedes would have difficulty finding a husband and he would be suspicious of her. Ulyses and Penelope were married when Telemachus was born. Inspired by the Odyssey when Ulysses hangs his servants for having an affair with the men who covet his wife, Edmond refuses to reject Mercedes. The low cultural level of the screenwriter is mixed by the mediocre toteiro.
Doubt that this "humiliated" him, seriously the guy was sleeping around so much that he surely has some bastards out there and he would have known that she wasn't a virgin (at least I think he'd know), so it happening to him (having raised another guy's child)? Not great, but also not the end of the world...losing it all (his name alone is after all not worth much), because he squandered it and that's what Edmond took advantage of, is much worse! For all his claim of nobility, he's crappy with money and knows that he's done for - without the money he thought he'd get from those chests he was blasting open at the start! The chess figurine just drove it home...sure, he blusters ("You don't have it in you!"), but he knows that it's just bluster - otherwise he'd attack Edmond, sword or not!

the movie is rubbish. Alexandre Dumas read Homer and was inspired by In The Odyssey to write the book. Ulysses attacked the suitors by surprise and the film Edmond used a poorly made bait that would not work. Haydee personifies penelope and mercedes in the servants that ulisses punishes. The 1979 French adaptation is better than this rubbish. And the 2024 adaptation will trash that movie. Dumas has a very frank cultural level for jay wolpert who wrote the weak pirates of the caribbean.
@@Penelope-xx5pqYou really hate that movie don't you? Why don't you see the movie as something new, deliberately not faithful to the book? Some weaknesses of the film is not a weakness but a conscious choice of fairytale naivety, at the sacrifice of detailed realism scenery. Every movie has its flaws and strengths. You simply hate this movie, for some reason, and you get blisters...
To be absolutely fair, I would have definitely shared the letter with my best friend. It was Napoleon for gods sake, he’s going to be tricky and untrustworthy. This indicates that Edmond was a poor judge of character. Very naive. On the flip side, I would have simply called him out on the letter so we could read it together, not sending him to prison. Definitely overkill.
yeah but would your friend have a hottie for a wife xd im kidding of course but its obvious jelousy was a big part why he did it. And emptiness of his nobility, and danglar
0:35 - How I would describe a scene as being delicious! As Andy from the office was chasing in wanting to fire Nelly and take back Dunder Mifflin just one delicious f$$king moment! the entire journey of revenge leading to moment of impact on Fernand so immense it shakes his world. Till now he thinks someone is out to take whats his and in a split second realizes its the man who has every right to do so. Loads of series/Films try to emulate these moments but it rarely if ever hits as well as this scene
This movie is by no means a faithful adaption of the book and has a much more happy ending. But it hits all the right spots for me and is my favorite movie.
what a stupid scene. Fernand would have already fled like Cassius and Brutus after the murder of Julius Caesar. Only in films does this idiotic trap work. Edmond would have to pursue Fernand just like Mark Antony and Augustus did with Caesar's assassins. What a poorly written scene. book >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Film trash

That was the seen before. The part it cut off is Edmond learning about Albert.
This movie is amazing 👏
Indeed
It’s actually an improvement on the book.
