  • Another older recording of the best band in the world. The sound of this particular concert is not as good as the Long beach shows, but the mixing at times is better. All being said, this concert has probably the best sounding live version of peace of mind out of all that I heard.
RIP Sib Hashian and Brad Delp
Again, this stuff is not mine, so don't get all mad about it

This was basically their peak. Was downhill from here in many respects, imo. Brad doing his best but flat on some of the really high chest voice notes but nailing some of those falsetto highs really well. Except that insane one near the end of More than a feeling. Bit flat on that one. But he is being asked to sing high stuff on every song for a full concert and that is a hard task, I think. People say Brad is the best rock vocalist but it's not just albums to consider. Look at Steve Perry on live vids. NAILING everything live. Dio. NAILING everything. No flat notes and strains like we hear in this video. Not bashing, just stating facts. I think Brad's vocals were pushed as far as they could go in the recordings and he just couldn't replicate it all accurately live. But I like this version better than that other guy Tom got to replace him.

Probably my favorite year of Boston's was 1978 for live concerts. Particularly the Selland Arena recordings, they were a bit more polished by this point musically.

@@machineryman7197 Knowing how picky Tom was and is, I wonder how they managed to tour then get another album out in 2 years. Prob had the tunes already worked up before and a few written during touring I guess. 1974 to 78 was good music times for me. Post 78 was starting to go all disco and hip hop and R&B and I liked a small bit of what was called "funk" music back then. Prince I was listening to in 79. His 2nd album. lots of musical styles popping out at that time. Synth stuff and pop synth stuff and of course the heavy metal was just starting to really take off around 1980 probably. Sabbath was 74 okay but takes time for other people to soak it up and if it's cool, it'll spread. Yeah.... the 70s were something for music, I think.

Awesome! My home state of PA. I've seen several shows at the Spectrum (r.i.p.), sadly none of which were Boston. Thanks for sharing this great piece of rock history! Love it!

If you have Boston at the Spectrum on October 30th 1978, please post it! It was my Dad's first concert.

Alex Higginbotham I'm afraid not. Not too much material from 78. I'll look for it though!
