    The M Plasma Cannon Mk2 works so well, I almost feel like cheating. 15 Nemesis will kill a "K" in a few minutes. It will take a bit longer but they can kill an "I" also. Just need to be OOS cause then the AA of the Xenon will shrew the Nemesis very fast. Thank you very much for this video.

    I use pretty much every size of ship in X4, but for different purposes. The unfortunate truth is that M sized ships rarely belong in large engagements. Corvettes certainly do not. I use them mainly for anti-piracy and anti-Kha'ak patrols. Their speed, resilience and firepower make them perfect for such roles. Deploying multiple small wings of them in sectors in which I mine or trade heavily has saved me some headaches. They can be expensive, but unless they attack a Kha'ak station, they always survive teheir encounters, are fast enough to make it to distressed miners, and save me a lot of time and attention, which ma,es their price worth it. They also make good personal ships for myself. Frigates can also engage in patrols, deploying drones to add that little bit of firepower and distraction. Otherwise, I use them to deploy laser turrets. Might also be good at laying mines. As such, I have few of them, but they have their uses. Gunboats basically have one job: escort larger ships to add their turrets to those of capital ships in case they get caught in a swarm. They don't always survive large encounters, but their sacrifice were usually enough to save my capital ships. And that works for me. Of course, I don't tell their crew that they are expendable. 😅 When I compare to X3, corvettes are generally more useful than their M6 counterparts, thanks to their good speed and the near constant threats of Kha'ak raiding parties. Frigates, however, are significantly less impressive than the M7s. Those were either good brawlers, small carriers, impressive escorts with amazing anti-fighter capabilities, seriously powerful missile lobbers, or a decent combination of the above. Some of the old M7s were capable of taking down swarms of fighters with those flak weapons of theirs. The flak turrets in X4 are seriously underwhelming. In the end, we're missing a size of vessels between L and M for frigates, with the corresponding weapons and emphasis on mainly defensive turrets. Gunboats are new, so... yay? M8s are missing, however. Those were great at anti-capital ship strikes. Keeping them and M7Ms supplied with missiles was a challenge really only met by building seriously huge factories. I would replace the M "frigates" with bombers like that.

    I use a mod to auto restock missiles..... there more than enough to do in the game than restocking ammo and the restocking of bullets is already simulated. I've been running 15 ship Shih Bomber fleets: using Mk2 4 Hvy Torps setups..... They just swarm the ships and melt them... Im going to experiment with an Ion and blast mortars tho. One thing to remember is that one is forced into actually sourcing various warfs to build ships and are thus limited in the builds that the warf can provide. So having a few effective strategies is needed. As well, solid mixed fighter/bomber builds are needed because of the smaller ships that these bombers will inevitably encounter and tangle up with

    A good and in depth look at the straight data of just L ships moving cargo very detailed. As some have said, it's all just one piece of the puzzle but your time in writing this down is appreciated. A couple of other factors to also take into account with L v M ships is if you decide to buy escort ships for the m traders for some peace of mind, and also that L ships can do one trade at the current price for goods. The price of the goods goes up with each trade that depletes the inventory, however large ships can completely deplete a stations inventory of a good in one trade at one price, thereby increasing the profit margin. And can also sell to a station having a high demand price for that good in one trade, adding in even more profit margin.

    Kind of tempted now to use more osprey frigates for larger battles. Give them long range weaponry, and full sets of defense drones on escort. Their slow speed might actually help keep them alive from charging in and engaging. I've liked the gorgan if im doing early boarding for money, with using stronger marines to take over much larger and heavily manned units.

    i am currently at 15th system attacked, was defending systems all day yesterday and its still not over and im tired of it at this stage, its not challenging, just annoying. fleets are only big enough to cause chaos with your trade and mining ships. you cant plan or strategise anything cos the fleets will just drop in at random locations making you jump back and forth for 30 real life hours. hearing the same voice lines X times frustrates even more. feels like this was designed in 5 minutes just to slap a feature on the box so the german govt thinks theyre doing something.

    Sometimes, when I need some breathing room and the Xenon are super aggressive, I build a large number of S-ships with a theoretical high damage output, like mass drivers, and have the ships otherwise be as cheap as possible. And with large number I mean something between 200 and 500. Then I send them directly for the Xenon-Shipyards. These fleets have been usually somewhat too effective and they are extremely unsatisfying in a gameplay way, it's very cheesy, but if you've no other options or just need to buy some time, throwing endless waves of cheap fighters at enemy stations works too damn well.

    I've usually gone for quality over quantity, simply because I have less micro managing when it comes to replacing ships, and I can keep the fleet sizes smaller. This video won't change that, but it was interesting nonetheless.

    Pilots are worth a lot, you dont want to lose them, and that is why L traders that can survive pirate attacks are the best investment, they do a much better job protecting your biggest investment, your pilots.

    Worst thing on M ships is the extremly bad shield regen which makes them totally useless against more than 2 or 3 enemies while controlled by the AI. S class ships can be totally fine with gun and run while M ships cant do that but still trying which results in even less dps and more incoming dmg

    This Video is a Godsend! I lost a good fleet not knowing that the out-of-sector performance of dumbfire's was crap. I watched/helped them take down a K and H in sector with no problem... I figured 1 K would be nothing and I'd just watch on the map... and I did watch.. as they died. Ouch! I was debating buying those Argon plasma cannons everyone talks about, but thanks to you I now know that Heavy Smart Missiles are the way to go- and my Terran Supremacy campaign can continue. Terra Invicta! XD

    Thanks a lot for the great video. What do you think about the Pulsar, who with the same layout would be double the cost, but due to its 6 hardpoints offer 3x the damage output. As I understand it, the fitted Shih would cost about 4.5x as much, but would only have 2x the damage output. While Pulsar would cost 2x and offer 3x the dmg output. So while reducing the amount of ships with Shih by 4.5x would also reduce your theoretical dmg output, reducing it by half with Pulsar would increase your dmg output by 1.5x @immi

    Heron-E TER engine with basic travel mod and basic mass mod earns eight times as much as a Boa with a split mk3 combat drive. 2 million credits/hour vs 200-300k credits/hour.

    So sad that this is not sorted on developer's side. "Prevent piracy" order and all the ships would do is check for enemy pirates every few seconds and if there is one visible in the system, intercept it. It's really easy to program as well. Whatever is the reason, it's clear that current state makes the experience with the game miserable.

    Thank you for your work. I find myself leaning toward miners and away from traders. With this data I'm willing to try again. I hate the pirates. I pirate them back, but I'm not interested in the expensive loss of trade ships.

    Honestly? I find the best M trader to always be whatever is available in the nearest wharf to the place where I want to fulfill buy orders for. After that, I just keep what I bought and let them go on wherever until I need to fill another shortage "now" and again but what's the nearest available.

    Based in getu fune as terran in my new playthrough. I only have L miners and traders. They are expensive and slow. Yes. but they are strong. The sectors is constantly under attack by khaak and xenons. And expect for a destroyer. They dont risk much at all. If i had gone with m i would have lost plenty of them. I have lost 0 L. So yes m are more business effective but L are peace of mind. Especially in border sector. Go with L

    heavy cluster missiles are cracked and are for blowing xenon defense platform clusters with 1 or 2 missiles. but ur right they aren't good for use against moving targets, but thats cuz they are anti station.. That being said, sense the game has physics you can charge at an enemy destroyer and line up your shot while boosting with a corvette or fighter, and then fire your missiles, they will go (your speed + the 57m/s they normally go). while not intended for use against moving targets they can still be used as a heavy hitting skill weapon vs large moving targets.

    My experience with medium ships is they are made of paper walls and get taken out way too fast. I prefer large as they dont get destroyed very often.

    payback period is what you should consider. payback = initial_cost / period_net_gain As you said, starting to invest in an item makes that item reduce in value so unless there is a dire demand like the patriarch, investment has a disminishing return and you should consider lower value of output.

    That confirmes what i always knew. M traders are the way to go. But since even those often run around half empty, it is even worth to mix in some S traders for small batches. It is still random what ship picks which batch but the average amount of load per ship goes up when you mix in 25-50 % S traders depending on the good you produce and state of the economy. Late game NPC stations often order very small batches of energy cells, so S traders make even sense for energy.

    The Sol system is quite biased towards higher travelspeed. If you trade in the systems along the superhighway ring around the center of the universe map or other systems with highways and/or short travel distances between changes of direction, i think combat engines would pull ahead and top travel speed would become less relevant.
