  • So I got a chance to explore Pea Ridge mines tailings pile with my buddy's Darin and Dustin , with luck I will get another chance to go back and explore some more. Its completly private property and was lucky enough to be invited out.
    Three types of mining methods are used at Pea Ridge. Currently, pillar robbing (caving) accounts for 80% of mined ore, and the sublevel mining methods account for 20%. Pea Ridge uses sublevel caving and sublevel stoping. The U1 dataset contains 80% of the mine capital cost, and the U2 dataset contains 20%. The U1 dataset is for pillar recovery mining, while the U2 dataset is for sublevel mining. Ore is transferred to the 2475 level, where it is crushed and conveyed to the shaft station storage area. The ore is then loaded into skips and hoisted to the surface.

    After more research from MinDat, I believe the green material that sort of flashes at you is actinolite. Glad you all got to come out with me, it was a great morning! So much out there, so hard to really understand everything that is there and all the combos and mixtures of minerals.

      That is so flippin cool there is so much stuff in that tailings pile that we would have to spend like a month there just to get half an idea of what came out of the ground. By far, it's one of the coolest rockhounding trips I have ever done thank you for inviting me along ( I got to get you up to my trilobite spot 😀)

    AW MAN!!! Where can you find all of that in one place! You LUCKY sonofagun! That piece you called Deep earth Quartz looks more like Chert to mee, since I look for knappable rock for making arrowheads and knives with. The color of it somewhat resembles Quartz I guess but it's kind of grey for quartz. You are very lucky to find so much in that waste rock pile, I bet you're so happy about it, especially if it is going back into operation! That drill steel you found is bent! Do you know how hard it is to bend a drill steel, not only that but the tip is really worn out too, those four tips are some of the purest Tungsten you can get ahold of, so keep that sucker for sure, if you have a Lathe, you can remove those pieces and grind into a cutter for your Lathe. I'll say it once again, you lucky Sonofagun! that Slam of Hematite is going to look really nice once you put a mirror finish on it. You and I are kindred spirits when it comes to rocks, I can tell you that much!!!

    • @huntingrocks
      @huntingrocks  7 місяців тому +4

      It could be chert there was a lot of chert there for sure, but this piece was a little clearer, it was really hard to tell as beat up as it was 😆
      And that drill when I was digging it out I thought it was going to be much longer as hard as it was to get out , then I saw the bend and was like "HOLY CRAPOLA!! How did they bend this " I'm actually thinking of making a shadow box for it cause I love old mining gear and kind of want to show it off

      No doubt about it, and from what I understand, that's just one tailings pile. Once it's up and running again it's going to be even more bonkers I'm sure ... and a huge financial boon for the area

      And yeah that piece of hematite was no joke Dustin helped me at the end because I lost all umph after about 200 yards.. we tried to get Dustin a piece that didn't look as big ... until we started to uncover it 😐. I also learned that cutting the hematite and polishingnit is SUPER dirty work

    Love the rocks, as always, and the industrial history. I remember your insulator vid and I laughed at your reaction to the drill bit because I'm always so thrilled when I find an old hand whetstone or a lime (kiln) quarry worker's clay pipe or whatever. Can't get more personal than tools people used back in the day.

    • @huntingrocks
      @huntingrocks  6 місяців тому +1

      Thats very true that/those were the tools held by a person doing their 9-5 or in some cases 9-9 job. And some of them make me wonder why was to tool abandoned. With the drill bit, it was easy to see and crazy to think how much force was behind it to bend it in such a way. Thank you for watching, and I love your screen name .

    This has really got my imagination running! All these rocks are so unique and totally different from what I’m used to. Really makes me think about all the different interactions that formed these minerals. I’m having trouble finding the words, but I guess it’s more of an appreciation of the Earth and its processes. I need to get to work on my video… sorry man I’m slacking. It’s so hard for me to find time to do the ending of videos with short daytime in the winter. I didn’t even have time to watch this yesterday!

    • @huntingrocks
      @huntingrocks  7 місяців тому

      It's all good, brother, and you have a really good point. I mean, there was some serious geological happenings below the surface. For the amount of minerals found ... Missouri has it all sadly a lot of it we have to dig deep... but not too deep and greedy ... don't want no Balrogs running around 🤣

    Hey, Master Jeff! Hope you are well. Man, I love hematite. It’s so beautiful. I’ve made quite a bit of jewelry with hematite beads. Magnetite also. (Sometimes they actually sell one as the other.)
    That sort of gravelly stuff is something I love searching. Even if it’s just spread in a parking area-I assume a lot of it comes from mine tailings and such. Never know what you might find. Every time I’m walking outside my eyes are on the ground looking for rocks that catch my eye.

    • @huntingrocks
      @huntingrocks  7 місяців тому +1

      Same here with eyes on the ground ... I don't know how many times when waiting to get into a crowded restaurant, Mrs.HuntingRocks has said to me, " Would you stay out of their landscaping !!" 🤣.
      I did learn that cutting the hematite is actually fairly dirty work but it cuts sooooo smooth on the saw, the diamond blade eats through it like butter

    Interesting material. Ore is often overlooked for the flashier stuff!
    Heads up, your thumbnails aren't the correct aspect ratio and get cut off. All YT shows of the text is "ore than you can shake a stick at." Many of your other thumbnails are like this, too, but I thought it was just me for a while.
