You're welcome and that is the main reason I have a Channel, tired of the BS and drawn out yacking and the "don't forget to add a thumbs up and to subscribe so you can get the 1st view of the up coming videos"... 😆 Thanks for watching too.
This is literally the first time I've not had to watch a combo of 5 different videos to work through something. You nailed this man. Exact remedy for what I needed and I have zero questions after spending just a few minutes watching your video. Fantastic.
Dude. . . This is one of the best DIY repair videos: editing was superb, only the pertinent details, excellent examples of what to not to do and why, enjoyable accent and commentary. 1k thumbs up if I could. Thank you for taking the time to make this tutorial.
Soon to be ex (cheating) husband thought I would come running to him for help, but your video helped me replace the cable on my truck by myself! I got to ride past him smiling lol Thanks again!!!
Dude thank you so much for this video. I have a ford ranger I am working on and having a problem with my shift cable not holding in the bracket and all because you showed the bracket and the plastic clip I now know what piece mine is missing and I can return the shift cable and neutral safety switch that I just bought thinking them 2 pieces were gonna fix my problem. You just saved me like $200 so thank you
Same exact thing just happened to my 04. I got the pioneer brand because it has a better heat shield, part number CA-1263. Thank you for making this video, it is the best one on UA-cam for this particular job.
Life saver! Exactly what I'm dealing with in my 2008 F-150. Thanks, going to the dealer tomorrow to get the part and put in on myself, with the help of your video.
Great video, thanks! I managed to do it without completely removing that lower metal bracket. Also, I wrapped that chintzy silver plastic with aluminum tape, and used a loop of wire to keep it up off the exhaust manifold to avoid trouble in the future.
Any idea how to adjust it? Your video helped me take out the old one and put new one in. Shifter and transmission lever were in park. It seamed to shift fine except wonr8go into 1st. Also when I was leaving work it acted like it wasn't going to shift. It was really hard but I forced it to. When I got home it shifted back and forth fine.....weird
thank you very much for showing this video as nobody else shows how to replace that stupid clip off this damn bracket I bet I can buy this clip alone from ford thanks a million
It's been awhile since this was done but the adjustment is on the plastic end at the transmission end, I believe you pop up a clip on the plastic part and that allows you to slide the adjuster to match your position on the shift linkage and then pop back down the clip to lock it in place.
Hello. We replaced one last year, and it has recently "broke", so we replaced it, and the replacement broke/tore. We discovered that the manifold burned through the heat shield, and now wondering if we are supposed to some how tuck it in so it does not touch the manifold. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.
Definitely tie it away from the exhaust manifold..but also buy an exhaust wrap sold at the local autozone, you can wrap the cable in that area to keep the heat out..the wrap comes in a roll and it's made out of a thermo heat resistant material..works out well..try it..you did place it in the metal clip that is factory there to hold it away
I removed everything as you did and worked fine. After starting and driving it for one day, the shift lever started to do the same thing before and won’t properly go into gears. Now ‘Park’ is reverse, ‘Neutral’ is neutral, ‘Drive’ is drive. So the issue is not being able to put the truck into Park. The cable is fine. I actually took one back and got another one just in case it was default. Got any ideas? O2 sensor is fine, nothing out of the ordinary was removed or taken out.
Double check everything, I would disconnect the cable at the transmission link, manually place the transmission in park and see where the cable is , if properly adjusted it should line up.
Scratch what I said above…I figured it out. I had to ‘lock’ the clip at the end of the Shift Cable that is connected to the transmission side. As soon as I locked it in, the gear lever worked like new. ‘Park’ is no longer reverse and all other gears shift perfectly! Thank you again for this video!
Are you talking about the end of the cable underneath by the transmission?..its because its new plastic..some people use a pliers to squeeze it in..and apply some grease or lubricant
My Shift cable went out as well. Only the part that attaches to the transmission broke. I took my old one out and just ordered the new cable. What position of the transmission did you attach the cable to? (Neutral, Park, etc.)
The shift cable has nothing to do with the engine stalling out...if you messed up the adjustment of the cable it will not start in park or neutral...I would clean out the throttle plate on your truck..a dirty plate will cause a stall with no codes or check engine light on...are you sure you didnt accidentally unplug or knocked something off?..take a good look at the area you worked near..like that o2 sensor
Is that shift cable really supposed to be rested on top of exhaust manifold? I found this problem with my truck as well. Luckily I found before it was too late and it melted outer insulation only. I cable tied it off to one of the hole on the transmission because I could not figure out how it was supposed to be mounted. Sealed melted insulation with silicone.
It should be Away from the manifold..if you look closely there is a clip on the transmission that holds it away..it should be shown in the other video I made if the same truck..
@@alyoungcuda My cable did not have any clip, guess it broke off when previous owner replaced engine. I had to replace transmission on this truck and found one of the bell housing bolt was not tightened at all and one was missing LOL..
Thank you for being clear and to the point. I get sick of the people who talk a hour just to show 5 minutes of work. Thank you. I will be fixing mine

Aftermarket makes a better heat shield...that's great for all..
Exactly what happened to my 2005. Great video, super quick, explanation was fast without the b.s. that so many do. Thanks!

I have a 1997, so mine is somewhat different, but you video pointed me in the right direction. Thanks for the fine video.
Hope it helped you out

You probably had it in the wrong position either too far back or forward..it just needs to move alittle to make the adjustment
thank you very much for showing this video as nobody else shows how to replace that stupid clip off this damn bracket I bet I can buy this clip alone from ford thanks a million
Should be able to since its plastic they will break
How do you adjust the plastic piece? Brand new cable but it isn’t reaching park.
It's been awhile since this was done but the adjustment is on the plastic end at the transmission end, I believe you pop up a clip on the plastic part and that allows you to slide the adjuster to match your position on the shift linkage and then pop back down the clip to lock it in place.
Would you recommend wrapping it with additional heat tape?
You can, it won't hurt, but the main culprit was the bracket that broke and sent the cable close to the exhaust manifold

After I installed this Shifter cable it still acted a little funny then it would go back to normal any possibilities that can cause this?
What do you mean by acting funny?
Why is so hard to push the cable end to the shifting? I did everything but when I get to the shifter is just not going in
Are you talking about the end of the cable underneath by the transmission?..its because its new plastic..some people use a pliers to squeeze it in..and apply some grease or lubricant
Gotta ask how did you reconnect the new Tan clip, onto the Linkage? Not the one that attached to the bracket.
The one that attaches to the round ball on the transmission linkage? ..i put a dab of grease on it and squeezed it on with channel locks

I got mine from the dealership and it came with a new clip ,100$ part for me overnight shipping
Bought this one from the dealership too but no new clip..guess they might of revised it
Having a bitch of a time getting the linkage lined up,any advice other than buy a Chevy?
Place the shifter in park and set the trans mission lever in the same position..they should both be close to alignment
Nicely done
Thank you so much! Life saver!
Thanks for info.. Understandable.
Where did u get that part from
Davien Alvarado the ford dealer..they sell aftermarket but I only wanted to do this once incase the aftermarket cable didn't work
What length cable is it?
Crystal DeShields there should be only 1 size from the ford dealer..I stay away from the aftermarket ones..
The toughest part of the whole replacement is getting the grommet seated back in. It wouldn't "bore" most people to have a section on that. Weak.l
Lol
This looks hard. Hope I can do it.
Chrissy Roberts you can do it...
One step at a time, Chrissy, and don't rush yourself.
Very helpful, thanks for the video! Even more impressive that you did all this with one hand while holding a camera! :o)
Where the installation vid?
I showed you how to remove it, the installation is in reverse
Thanks for the video, you explained it really well. Mine just failed exactly the same way as yours, a 2007 4.6 f150
Thanks for watching..seems to be a common thing on Fords
