- Cedric Hailey had been singing gospel music for the majority of his life. However, it wasn’t until he and his brother Joel teamed up with Dalvin and Donald DeGrate to form the group Jodeci that they would receive worldwide attention. The group created its own blueprint and completely changed the landscape of the music scene, but not without struggles and setbacks.

My favorite male group and I try to throw them in ppl faces all the time. The talent is beyond and after what they’ve gone through. They all are still making music. They made a video together just a little while back where their in a cabin in some snow. I love it. Definitely underrated. The soundtracks the collabs. They say Boys II Men are better. Devante also produced for Michael Jackson and The Jacksons unreleased album. Devante produced on Michael's invincible album but some of the tracks are unreleased and in Michael's vault. Michael personally picked De vante and told his mother, Mary De Grate how gifted he was. Dee Swing definitely was one of the pioneers of 90's RnB

Music industry “documentaries” always break my heart bc the story rarely ends well for many artists. There’s always a drug problem, someone dying, people falling out from drama, or the record label scamming their artists smh.
Exactly...!! That's why any singer or rapper gotta really, really, really be aware of that stuff. I've seen/heard many documentaries about music biz & im always like " When are these singers/rappers gonna realize, you're in the entertainment industry stay woke AF. "....Entertainment industry is really shady, brutal & careless. They mostly just want your $$$. And why do they always turn straight to drugs just to stay on track...??
They have people around them who are enablers and providers of drugs and alcohol and loose women..u heard them say that anyone who tried to intervene in their partying lifestyle would be fired immediately! Add money and guns to the mix and u get one HELL of a concoction💯

The record companies aren't in the business to make the artist rich. Record labels are just glorified loan sharks. Most artist don't really make anything from their 1st album. After the label takes their cut, the artists still have to pay writers, producers, graphics, promotion, travel, food, hotel stays, stylist, choreography and every other miscellaneous expenses needed to make a successful album and tour. Most artist don't realize this, when they start spending that big advance that the label gives them during signing. That's why a lot of artist go broke or end up stuck and indebted to the label for more albums than the original agreement.
When you consider what they have to do, go through, and sacrifice, it's not really worth it, unless you're an independent artist or you're the next Whitney Houston and you really know your worth.
Devante could still be having a long-term career. He still got it!! Producing music for these other artists.
I agree. I think he just needs to take care of himself and look into getting help for his anxiety, which I believe is part of Post Traumatic Syndrome, which seems like he may be suffering from since that horrible beating he suffered from the robbery. I wish him the best and hope all of them remain in good health, and can one day make another album together again!
He can make a strong comeback. He knows how to write songs, produce & create a group. I've watched soooo many documentaries on Jodeci. And the beats & song writing was absolutely dope..!!

My girlfriend (now wife) at the time was pregnant when Forever My Lady dropped, and it just made our bond that much tighter. I'm so glad we were able to see them perform when they were at the top of their game.

I remember my mother used to read Sister 2 Sister magazine all the time. She used to get so mad that I would read the articles before she got a chance to. Ms Jamie was a great interviewer. Her interviews were indeed just like conversations. She used t9 get artists so comfortable and they used to be spilling all the tea. Somewhere on the internet is an old s2s interview with Left Eye. In the article she talks about the house burning, the group, her and Andre's crazy relationship also her situationship with Tupac. It was very revealing.......

When I first heard Jodeci in 1991 I was surprised how young they were because they sounded mature for their age. One of the Best Male R&B groups of all time. They're voices was so powerful but the Harmony was so Smooth.

Jodeci was the original writers of Forever My Lady (DeVante and Dalvin wrote almost all their songs). When they teamed up with Uptown they started collaborating with other artist. The original song was performed on Teen Summit before some of the lyrics were changed/ more added on (was going to add the link on here, but looks like it vanished off of YT) It’s one of my favorite songs; along with so many other songs of theirs❤️

Feb. 20, 2022, I finally saw Jodeci open for Charlie Wilson and New Edition (headliner) as a 44-year-old at State Farm Arena as special guests. It brought such joy to my heart seeing them all on the stage together. I'll never forget being in 8th grade and listening to them for the first time on a friend's Sony Walkman cassette player. She had recorded "Forever My Lady" from WGCI in Chicago.
My husband and I (both born in the 80's, straight 90's kids 🤙🏽😝) have been married for 11+ years and JODECI IS OUR SHIT!!!! We still bump their songs like it's 1999 TODAY!!! ❤

@@YouBigDummy I really hate how people just assume the music industry is so evil, like yeah it has it's temptations but that comes with any industry you go in that you can make a lot of money from. The problem is people get caught up in the fast lifestyle of the industry and not really pay attention to what they are doing. But the industry itself isn't all that evil, sure you have shady execs, shady managers, and so forth but what you get out of the industry is what you contribute and you maintaining your career. So many of these artist get in the game but can't sustain a career because they're too busy trying to party, if you care for you career then it can be a long one without drug abuse or getting locked up all the time.
