Yeah. This is an amazing story, really well done, complex without being complicated and unintelligible. Great Davros twist - you totally get swerved by... well, you know. :) 7 is great here. Ace is rarely better. Great supporting cast. There's a reason Big Finish have milked that cash cow...
+Cybermat47 I believe it's on the top 10 best stories of all time, as voted for by the fans. It's also 2nd place in the 1980s division, beaten by The Caves of Androzani.
+Matt TooFast4U On different lists, sure, it as time goes on it gets lower. It's usually the top McCoy. Every time I rewatch it I just can't get over just how sharp and glossy the whole thing is.
God, I love this story so much, even after watching it 40+ times. Not only is the plot amazing, the characters all get some screen time even if they aren't important to the plot, really developing the setting. The music also IS SO FREAKING AMAZING, the beats are great, it conveys the emotion and tension well. Call me nostalgic when I say I was lucky the first story I could comprehend was this one (Doctor Who fan parents had just found out the reboot got announced and were watching their tapes.) It opened me up to the conniving Seventh Doctor and his assistant Ace, the cool teen nerd with anger issues, explosives, and a dark past- my favorite duo!
You have to give credit where it's due - McCoy's era had some exceptional music, some of which was well ahead of its time. Try listening to the "Happiness Patrol" soundtrack - it sounds like something you'd hear in Resident Evil 1 on the PSX - very creepy and atmospheric, but spliced with the odd bit of sour 'happiness' to remind you what the story was about. Loving this soundtrack as well.
1:42 - From one of the most iconic cliffhangers in Who history. 4:38 for an equally iconic cliffhanger and arguably Ace's most memorable moment (hint - get out your baseball bat). Not sure if it's included in this video but the funeral music during the ending was bittersweet bliss.
Holy crap, this episode is incredible! I watched it for the first time in over 10 years yesterday, and it was just as amazing as I remembered! In fact, it was better. And this soundtrack really helped, so I’m really glad you were able to find clean versions and upload them. This has got to be one of my favourite stories of all time now, and Sylvester McCoy is one of my favourite Doctors as well.
I don't know if I'm biased for nostalgic reasons, but stories like this one are so much more exciting and memorable than most of the new series ones. I still can't believe the props department actually built a freakin' full size dalek shuttle! Too much is computer generated unbelievable effects these days.
this is the 80'est 80's music to ever 80's... I love it!! There's this unsettling, almost manic verve and vigor to it that matches the intense stakes of the story, as well as its broad-ranging consequences for the future of the show itself (as the Doctor's destruction of Skaro was one of the first shots of the Last Great Time War according to RTD).
It's been nearly 25 years now, but this was the first series of Doctor Who episodes I ever saw, they were running in Syndication on I think PBS of all things in the early 90s. had Nightmares of the Daleks for nearly a Decade before I ever learned what they actually were.
Starting at 8:51, I get chills as I imagine Davros shouting 'THE DALEKS SHALL BECOME THE LORDS OF TIME!!' only to see his plans for Dalek domination over time and space backfire and end the Daleks as we'd known them for so long.
This brings back so many memories when first watching it many years ago. I always loved re-watching Remembrance of the daleks. It is action packed, the music is spot on and you're in for a true 80's feel for Doctor Who. I love the direction and structure the new series followed. It has gone classic again. 7's portrayal really made this story a true peace of television gold. My mother re-noun's it as her all time favourite. 4:38 is my all time favourite when Ace takes out the dalek with a base ball bat and a lot of courage. She is my favourite companion along side Mrs Smith. This is incredibly well scored and with it being one of the top ten dalek stories so it should be. :)
