Ok. I played for most of that first year of the game. But. I'd played a few live service games and MMOs by then, so I looked at it differently than most people knowing that this was a world that was going to evolve and grow. Yes, Bethesda moved at a significantly slower pace than I would have liked, but with live service games the most important difference is that real time is a factor.
Looking back, my experience was that of walking out into a wasteland where everything and everyone else had died, killed by their own bad decisions or turned to the scorched by the plague. Before people could come back to Appalachia, that plague had to end. Which is actually the original story that is told by the Overseer thru the holotapes. Then this Sheepsquatch thing showed up and some robots threw a parade every couple months. A little while after that, Graham started having his yearly cookout. Then, after a year and a half, some people showed up talking about a treasure in a vault and I was like,"yeah, that's what my momma calls me." They said no, it was real and they were right. Capitalism. Then those cultists started to gather a couple of times a year, the Brotherhood of Steel showed up and let me say, those people are dramatic. Trade started booming and some Kaiju started appearing, a travelling circus came by and never left... When the responders started to rebuild, some weirdo in a tuxedo asked me if I wanted to go to Pittsburgh and I regretted it. When they asked me if I wanted to go to jersey a few months ago, I reluctantly agreed, but recently started to really enjoy it.

Too much text, not gonna read as clearly is a bunch of things nobody cares. If you want to write a opinion about anything, make concise and small.
This video convinced me to give it a second chance. Last time I played was in 2019 and it was fun laughing at all the tposing enemies, and all the small enemies would go flying to the sky. Tried it out yesterday and it’s not bad, whole lot more stable and less laggier than I remember. What I really like is the outdoorsy forest atmosphere. My only problem is that I wish on the map menu it wouldn’t flicker and select through all the options, it’s especially annoying when I go on someone’s name and it sends a friend request, invites them, mutes them and views their profile.
Now I’m lvl 50. This game and Holdfast are probably the nicest communities I’ve ever come across. My second day this lvl 200 guy gave me loads of plans, ammo, weapons and advice. An hour ago I came across one of the best looking bases I’ve ever seen, it was like a functioning Nuka World with bunch of nuka cola decorations, told them their base freakin rocks and they gave me bunch of nuka cola. Basically Sheffield.
I do think there’s some issues, mainly bugs. None of the fun bugs are around anymore, only soft locking ones. 1 out of 40 or so terminals will not let me leave and the choice is to reset the game. Sometimes get stuck on aiming down a scope so I’m stuck with iron sights and the dot sights. Bodies of enemies disappearing, this is especially annoying when it’s a legendary. There’s a huge input delay when trying to jump, bolt or lever action weapons tend to get stuck aiming down sights or hip firing. Outside of that, I’ve only had my 76 randomly crash maybe four times.
A huge issue I do have is I feel like every weapon except heavy weapons are really underpowered. I’m not running any combat perks right now but still enemies shouldn’t take two magazines to kill.
Another huge issue is how often you get stunned, it’s just plain annoying, I hope that shit gets removed. I can’t really stop myself from getting melee attacked if most weapons are terrible and scopes can get permanently stuck.
Overall, a neat game that I think should be given a second chance. Just when it’s less than 15 dollars though. And of course, all the shit Bethesda did should not be forgotten and forgiven, and the game’s community should be remembered for how kind and generous they are.
Played at launch hated the game. When NPCs where introduced it was a little better but still very empty. Started up again last Thursday. Completed my bloodied build now I can have power armor tank build. My friend has started a new account so he’s low level we did vault 51 overseer last night he picked locks while I killed enemies we did the door/key puzzle then killed the overseer. It was fallout with friends but that’s not what it normally is like there a lot of grinding events. Fo3 is better than NV too 😂😂😂

Reminds me of the No Man Sky (NMS) launch. Totally soured my experience of that game.
NMS originally was described as a game you could play with friends; if you could find them. In the days after launch it immediately became clear it the su anything BUT what was described.
People dogged it; myself included. It didn’t work properly out of the gate, a familiar issue for many MMO game releases
I think the GameStop destruction video was staged by a group of friends, one of whom was a GameStop employee- but that video's still funny as fuck and encapsulates how we all feel about the game.

I tried to play it several times over the years but this most recent time, I've actually been REALLY enjoying it. It does still need some work but very little overall. Great game in 2024.
It's a damn good game now, people have just brainwashed themselves with the rage propaganda over the last 6 years and continually bash the game over and over again with no sound reasoning. I was an early adopter of the vanilla game and in spite of all its issues it was still a blast to play fallout with four of my friends.
I wouldn’t say it’s “rage propaganda,” but instead the age-old saying that a first impression is very important. The game is definitely fun now, and it is worth a try now at a steeply discounted price.

Don't play this bullshit game lol. The game absolutely deserved the hate it got at launch and for quite a good amount of time after it. Sure it is in a much better state now but it was absolutely not propaganda. What a joke to even pretend ppl had "no sound reasoning" lol. Enjoy the game all you want but don't just lie.

As someone who grew up with 3 and new Vegas, it definitely does.
It's just important to remember that it supposed to be more of an action RPG borderlands

Yeah, this one's dead to me. As a principle, I don't reward the practice of launching incomplete and buggy broken games for a quick cash grab. You can fix it later.. too bad, I'm not playing it, I don't care... there's an entire universe of better games out there that didn't rip their customers off that I can play instead.
I’m not a live service, MMO type of player so when it was revealed that’s what 76 was going to be, I cancelled the preorder because it wasn’t the type of experience I wanted in a game in general. At launch, we all know how bad the initial roll out was, so I felt vindicated in my decision to not get it. The reveal of lots of lore retcons also soured my perception of it. I recognize the experience has greatly improved since then, but the game still overall just isn’t what I want from a fallout game, or even a game I would play in general, so I’ve left it alone and out of my library.
Definitely don’t blame you! It’s very different from the other games.

The battle royals was AWESOME, I don’t know why they didn’t develop it further, it was really popular within the player base but stayed in Beta the whole time.
It was fun but god was it annoying with everyone jumping like they were on the moon

Played the game for two weeks now and I can very much say my only issue is the fact that none of my actions have consequences fr. The new vats is fun to me as a rifleman bc it’s more fast paced. And there’s no such thing as getting a good roll on your weapons.
I've not stopped playing 6 years in. Only took breaks. Have over 7000 hours in this game between 3 accounts and characters over lvl 600 to lvl 1200. This is still my go-to game. I met many friends along the way. Bugs are just part of the fallout experience. People who never picked it up because of critics truly missed out. Its not to late to pick it up. But my glory days were with my legacy weapons that are now banned. But you can still get some great gear. For those skeptical im telling you, just play it. But go easy because it can consume you, lol. Once you go down the 76 rabbit hole, it's too late to turn back. You will meet new friends and be on adventures you never found in any other video game. Nah it wasn't for me when it was released and its not my thing now, but if your having a blast then more power to ya.
I wish I had waited until now to play it for the first time but even a few years ago when I played it I had a really great time for about a year

I picked up fallout 76 on steam for $8 when it was on sale and I've gotten a solid 25 hours of exploration so far. For that price, I think it's worth it if you've already played other fallout games.

as a day one for not just fallout but for f076 especially since ive played since beta, some of your points are fuckin goofy. like, the stash boxes having limits isnt for the membership because when they made stashes neither the membership or scrap boxes existed yet(note the scrap box ONLY stores infinite scrap, not normal items anyways so thats genuinely a stupid point and shouldnt have been brought up the way it was.) the stash is limited because Fo76 is no longer singlepalyer. it already has to load in who knows how fucking much everday in those boxes, imagine if that limit was infinite like what??? its clearly a balancing thing. destiny does it, warframe does it, and helldivers does it, all of which are the current TRIFECTA of live service gaming. Also, the monetization is BARELY predatory and puts most live service games to shame. the currency is only used for things YOU DO NOT NEED NOR WILL EVER NEED or outright things that don't traditionally exist in any prior fallout and IF NOT THAT then things that literally break lore and act as collectors items such as the Ranger outfit. You could play 76 for years without paying a dime, and if so all u gotta do is pay one for a single month just to get the scrap box(because all that happens when it runs out is you just stop getting free daily/weekly atomic shop shit) and youre set. and thats all EXCLUDING the fact that you can grind atoms fairly easily and for free, making the battlepasses also technically free. if you dont wanna spend money, DONT. it literally changes NOTHING. ive probably only spent a grand total of 100 or so bucks on the game since beta testing/launch and its ONLY because they put some genuine cool shit in the shop like prefabs and hyper rare stuff that could take months of grinding to get naturally, and i as a person hate fallout building so prefabs are a life saver and if i get the option to just pay about 200-500 atoms WHICH I COULD GRIND NATURALLY WITHOUT MONEY in about 2-5 days rather than spending several weeks in daily ops or some shit and rely on rng, i totally fucking will. in terms of live service its hard to believe but fo76 is A if not S tier. everything feels nicer than Destiny, but still worse than warframe while being in the same tier as helldivers 2. anyways, not tryna bash you or anything, just research/pay more mind to the way you explain things cuz you could literally be the determining factor for someone getting the game just for them to find out you misinformed them pretty greatly months later. also, youre in a fucking multiplayer game man, of course you arent gonna be freezing time and shit anymore while in VATS. other than VATS changes, fo76 runs off of the same shit fo4 does, which was and still is praised to this day for its gun/gameplay mechanics.
sometimes i wish the modern Fallout playerbase would play the originals, because i guarentee they'd either complain MASSIVELY if not drop all together after saying "76 is the worst of fallout and its mechanics!!" for the last few years just to realize how fucking fun 7o76 really is. Imo, other than just comfort playing and being able to customize your own exerience cuz mods n settings and lore ect ect ect in fo4, there is no better fallout than new vegas and 76 and i say this even after playing the new fo4 update for the last week or so. fo76 created my BEST memories of fallout to date.

Make a CAMP on the Eastern edge of the Savage divide. You can absolutely see distant weather systems. Being above a Radstorm as it rolls thru the Cranberry bog is an awesome sight.
The atomic shop doesnt have pay to win elements. The scrap kits, repair kits, lunchboxes, etc. arent great. Well the lunchboxes are cuz exp. But the rest of the things are not great to actually spend money on. Plus you get them for free through quests, events, even the atom shop gives you one free thing each day. But spending money on scrap kits and even worse repair kits, is an actual waste of money.
16 times the detail was BS but actually you can see distant weather systems. I never played this on launch, I always wait until the price goes way down. It's a lot of fun though.

Honestly, I'm playing Fallout 4 again even though I was disappointed with the next gen update. I don't think I'll ever play Fallout 76 though, even now.
I had more technical issues with Fallout 4 than 76 believe it or not! And that was before the newest update that broke more stuff lol

I just really don't like the direction some modern games are taking with the live service model and Fallout 76 was and is one of those.
I don’t think they can make cross-platform play. I was gonna buy it then I saw it doesn’t support crossplay so it’s garbage.

Bethesda’s gets a lot of hate. BUT there are few developers who support things they way they do. Cynically, you could say they only do it for money. But who else is out there updating games from 10 years ago for enhanced modern hardware? Sure, there FO4 update was a mess….but they really don’t ever abandon anything ever. Like ever. They tend to improve their products as best as they can for ABSURDLY long time of many years.
I mean they abandoned New Vegas, Fallout 3, and kinda Skyrim and FO4. And by abandoned, I mean they kept game breaking bugs in them and forced the community to fix them. I played FO4 even before the new update, and it still had a myriad of bugs. Skyrim Anniversary edition and FO4 added even more bugs and made the game less stable. Not sure if they fired all of their QC people, but it sure seems like it.
@@FANTAVISION I think the bugs are literally a by-product of their process, another problem in and of itself…but leaving the bugs in, I think, is not indicative of a lack of support, but rather, and indictment on their flawed / outdated development processes. I think people conflate the two a lot. Do you hate their entire process, or their post-launch practices? Both? I’d argue their post launch stuff is well intentioned, persistent, sloppy, but overall represents a shrinking minority of developers. We will keep complaining about Bethesda until eventually we will get the future we apparently want….one where we are literally just money slaves for entertainment lmao.

Playing with friends or alone?
The game is just okay. It doesn't feel like Fallout, which is the big problem. The NPC's I've interacted tend to pull me out of the immersion, as many of them sound like bored employees doing a job. Gravitas and personality are severely lacking! The quests are generally underwhelming too, but I'd imagine it would be far better with a friend or two. I thought I'd have fun building settlements other players can use, but that was borked when I realized the storage limit was behind a paywall.
I’d say it still feels like a Fallout game, just a more shallow one due to its self-imposed limitations.

Bethesda is the the epitome of Corporate Culture. I can’t get into it. It feels like the most sanitized safe version of everything it aims to be. The merch, the games everything feels like something you’d get as a”SWAG”(stuff we all get) at a corporate party or retreat. Fallout is literally a corporation a wet dream about a world that was destroyed by corporate greed lol

I’ve tried multiple times to play this game. I gave it another shot a week ago. Played for 2 hours and was bored out of my mind. And it still feels janky as hell. Enemies still freeze for a second before they “die”. It’s so off putting.
What ?!? No kill cam or gore ? That was the most epic part of all their games (full stop)
I think the game is kind of shit still but it definitely deserves a second chance and for people to at least try it. It's a very different game from launch and I was surprised by how much fun I was having.
I think the most serious flaw of this game is instanced dungeons where my party can't complete it together. I understand the reasoning but honestly I think I'd prefer my friends messing up my story and shooting essential npc's over playing a singleplayer game side by side with all my friends. The options to actually play the game instead of just free roaming are to do everything 2-4 times or to play it singleplayer even though I have friends sitting here playing the same multiplayer game as me. And free roaming with friends quickly falls apart when we discover that every cool location we find is part of a later quest and we both can't complete what we started, and wasted our times here to begin with.
I wouldn't recommend anyone who isn't a fallout fan get this game, even if its free. But I would tell any fallout fan who's itching for a fix to give it a try if it's cheap.
