I had a similar experience registering a car in Indiana that i owned and had registered at the time in new york state. They told me i had to make an appointment with my location police department to have them come inspect the vehicle and verify it wasnt a stolen car or the parts on it hadnt been stolen. So i called and a unit shows up, signs a piece of paper with my VIN on it, and has a laugh about how it doesnt mame sense to have someone who owns a vehicle have to do the steps of purchasing a vehicle in that way.

that old chestnut has been done to death. about time they got into something different, instead of the same old cars over and over and over. i had hopes when Supergramps blew its engine, but we never saw what replaced it, whether it was stock or modded internally, they bought a Focus RS which we saw them put the bumpers on in the factory, then bolt on the ford approved mountune kit (rather than the dealer doing it) and never saw it again, the last half interesting project i saw was the E30 BMW and LS swap.

NSW sounds like a nightmare for old car lovers in terms of registration. That's a bummer. Glad you guys were able to get it sorted. Loved this build series
It isn’t though, this situation is more of an exception rather than the rule. I’m surprised after copping that the boys didn’t ask to or speak with a manager about that. If there are additional requirements, a reasonable and documented reason must be provided as to why they couldn’t have gotten it registered and for what reasons the other steps were asked of them the first time around. Something def doesn’t add up here.
Full Restoration Modification. That car is like the perfect 180! With an incredible number plate, she's gorgeous, simple and clean AF. Well done guys and congrats! ✌️ 🎉
This episode of mcm was one of my all time favourites the joy and happiness on moogs face says it all. I’m a apprentice mechanic and watching your videos inspires me so much and makes me love what I do even more Well done mcm. I’ve been following you guys for years and you guys have truely motivated me to work and modify cars.
At the end, the 21ish minute mark. moog is talking about the car and how it's his dream build that went up in flames, you can hear that crackle in his voice, the emotion, the time, effort, care and thought that was put into this is something very special to him indeed. I bet his first drive alone was for HOURS and sobbing like a happy child as he should. THIS IS WHAT ITS ALL ABOUT. cars are more than just transportation to some of us. They are like family. they are trials, tribulations, wins and losses. they are memories.
Moog over here making me cry and experience emotions XD Very happy this worked out. One thing I learned a few years back is trying to get registration done is like trying to get a permit. Sometimes you have to try twice.
Stunning build! One of my favorites…but as a painter and body man, have a look at your left headlight…. It’s not aligned right. The gaps drove me mad! Love you guys! Can’t wait for the next project
Yup a couple of little things to fix. Getting aligned today and proper suspension set up. Also got mats for it and a few dress up parts. Will do an update on that soon.
In all my years buying cars in Australia i've had this kind of trouble registering them only once, the last time i bought a car it was a gf8 impreza that was almost half off price without the plates, i went yeah cool ill just give it a look over and make sure its not a dodgy deal. It was fine so i got a revs check to make sure it wasnt stolen or any money owing on it, all good so i bought it and got a blue slip, passed without an issue, i went to rego it and the rms said they needed all this unnecessary info about the previous owner, i already had the receipt of purchase and all the other actually needed stuff. But now the last owner was ghosting me, no problem, down to the cop shop and fill in a statutory declaration in front of a justice of the peace to say i couldn't contact them for info, took that into rms and registered the car without another issue. It was a whole load of running around for a $500 nugget, which actually turned out to be one of the most fun cars i've ever had and kickstarted my love of subarus.
@zoiu tooi its like that for a lot of things in aus everything is overly complicated and no you dont have the freedom to do anything, and anything you do want to try and do is going to have supplies locked behind some wholesaler who wont sell to you unless you have an abn or some other bs
Here in the US so long as you have a document called a Title in your name, or previous owners name, and a receipt of sale you are good to go to get it back in road. Some states have mandatory inspection and insurance but that’s about it.
I had been wondering why this project seamed to mean so much to Moog throughout the series... but knowing how he lost his first one really hits you in the feels.
So I've had a similar situation when one of my cars got totalled. The guy at the DMV told me I needed a bill of sale from the last registered owner. I told him the situation. It had gone through about 4 different people being unregistered. He low key told me to forge the signature. I did that and had no issues turning that in.
What an ending! I loved this episode one of the MCM master pieces! The car sounds great! The production was on point, the story telling was amazing, Moogs music is obviously top notch - I just love the vibes MCM creates. Love yall
I mean, it isn't mighty car mods if Marty isn't blowing up Subaru gear boxes and Moog isn't trying to beat that Subaru in a car that cost twice as much...
I'm happy you got it registered. I was worried this whole video would be a circus of dealing with trying to get it registered. I've been waiting on my reg-o for my recent car purchase for two weeks. I'm getting really itchy to go for a drive. Enjoy your dream 180 build Moog!! And we get chill jams and a time lapse?!? great finale guys!
This is what makes MCM so special, they tap in to that special passion and feelings we have for certain cars, for guys and girls my age, for lots of us it was the S13 that we lusted after and this one is just perfection
iam 32... my first car was a pearl white s13.... i now have another s13 and iam slowly building it up to perfection like moog. I just had the car sprayed after stripping all the glass and repairing the body. This series hit all the buttons lol
Oh man, I'm sorry about the registration stuff. I know those feels. Here in the US I had a TON of trouble trying to register a brand new car I bought out of state. I went to the DMV again and again and again, doing everything they told me to do, but each time I came back they said I either did it wrong or they tell me something new. The last time I went there I asked them to just put what I need in writing, BUT THEY WOULDN'T DO IT! He was like, "you write it down. I'm not gonna write it down." Oh man. I was so mad. I finally got it done, but, HOT DAMN they made it so ridiculously frustrating, ambiguous, and convoluted. 😡
It definitely depends on who's on the counter. I bought an Up! Recently from a VIC dealer without registration. I went to Access Canberra with my ACT roadworthy certificate and the lady behind the counter just made me declare a Statutory declaration in front of her (with her as a witness) declaring that I bought the car without plates from Victoria. Overall a very friendly experience with no hassle. Glad it all worked out in the end! Excited to see more Up content in the future 👀
Damn seeing the end result now, it’s so easy to forget all that hard work and hours spent, loved the montage and love the 180SEX. Got massive black civic vibes from this series, very nostalgic. Love you
My brain hurts. Here in the states, when we buy a car, we don’t need to go to the last person who registered the car. There is a VIN search to ensure the car isn’t stolen…
And you have a title. The title goes with the owner, unless it's a full on abandoned vehicle, etc. Even then you can have a title created to legally obtain the car, etc.
@@gamedeathmatch rightbut herein the USA we either sign the title of the vehicle over or there's a state sourced bill of sale that works in lieu of title. I once bought a car from a chain of dealers that was unregistered for 3 years. Swapped hands 5 times but I had all the bills of sales from each of the 5 and then my own with the last and it was accepted. This just sounded like a headache in nsw
In some countries, you are required to have a deed of sale and last registration from the original owner, have it notarized etc., else it is considered stolen/fraud.
Ah yes, the "different person behind the counter" is a thing here in Norway as well. The way around that is, you ask for their name and ask to have them constantly assigned your case (car) so that everyone's on the same page through the whole process. 100% they get nervous and don't try to give you a hard time (as they usually do).
Ironically for me my first car was the laser which did get a bit of modding due to the TRD Laser episodes that I started watching all those years ago. It’s not only crazy to see you customise your 180sx again, the craziest part is that I’ve been along with you for the ride this whole way that you’ve got me thinking back to those good ole days. Definitely grabbing a poster. Long live the ONE80T
I miss my old 240sx (in the states). It was a silver 1989 in the 180sx body style and it was my absolute favorite car I have ever owned. I was forced to sell it back in 2004 and have regretted it ever since. I did get another a few years later but it was thrashed and I was forced to sell that one as well. Maybe someday I'll be lucky enough to get another, but it brought me a ton of smiles watching this series and seeing a car so close to my heart get revived by someone who loves and appreciates this particular model as much as I do. Well done.
Did something similar with my Commodore, purchased it from someone that purchased it unregistered from someone else, got everything in order, went down to TMR with the roadworthy and the receipt from the person I bought it from (not the last registered owner) and they just accepted it. Sounds like someone is on a bit of a power trip tbh.
yea i have had it done in the past as well. I have heard of people having issues as well. I guess its 50/50 depending on who serves you lol. Iam currently building a s13 that was traded for a beetle and pretty sure was cold for cash unreg'd before that... so i will have to go through it all again in a few months lol
I was so stoked when you released first episode of this series. I loved the car since childhood, and seeing a sensible, "OEM+" build was really something nice and refreshing. But now that I've seen the teaser at the end.. god damn it you guys, always coming up with something better when you think it just cannot be any better anymore :D
I simply loved watching this journey. The 180sx was always a dream for me before I viewed your channel and saw these episodes, it truly inspires me to get at it one day. Many blessings!
Absolutely loved this, martys lil ending on this was just perfect, happy for you guys, makes me wanna go buy the first car I owned and engine swap it and do all the things I was too broke to do MIGHTY CAR MODS!
I've always thought Marty and Moog looked like the BBs! Marty's too tall, but his face looks strangely like John Belushi. And Moog would make a pretty good Elwood! 😄
Did the dude who "swapped" the 180sx never file the change of ownership forms with the RMS? They might not have a "chain of ownership" in their records, which would maybe indicate that it's stolen?
The annoying thing with these type of cars they often change hands a few times without having rego done on them. I had a similar issue with a s13 that was sold twice since it was last registered. lol.
If it's not registered then there's no record of ownership with the state authority. Hence requesting a copy of the receipt from the person you bought the car off.
Moog: I'm older and more responsible now, I'll wait until I'm on a track. Also Moog: second gear pull in a residential street Sweet build, can't blame him lol
some people really don’t get how much cars can mean to others. i’m really glad i was born at the start of the 2000s, and am lucky enough to still be able to experience older cars in their well deserved glory, epic video boys 💪🏼
That's nuts. I've done the exact same thing as this same situation in VIC twice and haven't needed a receipt. Total BS Edit: Ok well I'm glad you actually got someone with their head screwed on straight. Other difference with VIC is you only need a roady (pink slip in NSW) not a specific one for new rego. the engine and vin is checked by the Vicroads worker.
I get that there has to be rules and regulations - that's part of life. But as someone that lives in Melb and has gone through a similar thing, sometimes the system is an absolute joke. I'm not a conspiracy theories person, but sometimes it does seem the gov is trying to kill off car enthusiasts entirely.
You're not wrong, it's happening all over the world. It's their way of subtly forcing people to steer away from gas vehicles, our hobby is definitely in danger over the next 5-10 years.
It doesn’t seem like anything. The fun police are real.. forget the actual police, most of those guys and girls are actually pretty good if you’re nice to them but the fun police?? The fun police are the extremists within the social justice movement, the people who publicly air their desire to destroy western/white/cis-male ways
Oh, it's not conspiracy - it's full on anti-car culture, for sure. Hell, in the United States I've got money to buy a new car....and you can't even find but two or three models with a fuckin' manual transmission (outside of a sports car, which I don't need/want).
they literally go to car shows and size cars constantly. Australian culture is very much about stopping people from doing things you aren't interested in doing yourself
this video is actually so beautiful. theres something so special about seeing someone finally achieve something they've wanted for so long, not to mention its not even something insane, its just reliving an old dream. keep up the good work guys, so happy for ya! c:
This kind of thing is done fairly frequently in the US, where it's known as title-skipping or title-jumping. Depending on the state, the laws regarding this vary, but usually you just need the signed title document that's been signed from the previous registered owner, and if you have a bill of sale with your name on it, and if there aren't any liens on the car, you're good to register it.
Love that you brought this gem of a car back where it belongs, on the roads. I love the 180 and 200 SX, just phenomenal cars with personality. Congratulations on getting it registered and plated.
Congrats on getting it this far, a whole lot of time, money, blood, sweat and tears went in, and you got what looks like a fantastic product product out of the other end (including the videos)!. As with all projects, it's never over, look after that beautiful box!
Hey gents, For future reference, the power under which they can ask you for receipts/stat decs like this arises under r.9(1)(b) of the Road Transport (Vehicle Registration) Regulation 2017 (NSW). It’s a broader requirement than what’s on the website, but that’s the letter of the law. Glad it worked out for you, though.
Amazing episode, Moogs love for the 180sx gives me such good vibes. glad it all worked out in the end! just out of curiosity; what has happened to the passenger side front bumper/headlight? it doesn't seem to fit very well? No hate on a very clean 180! just curious, and will this be fixed?
it gives you a really warm and fuzzy feeling to know that the same person who originally denied your rego is probably in the same office or in the next cubicle to the person (with rancid armpits and no commonsense) who makes up shit laws for the police to enforce. and an even warmer and fuzzier feeling to know that it's more than likely that NONE of those assclowns owns something that they love to drive on the daily. my congrats to you guys esp. Moog, quite the miniseries and a thorough and enjoyable journey. bring on the next one. 👌👍
Guys! This hits home so hard! I still have my S13 from when I was 17. That was over 23 years ago now. Crazy. It needed so much love. I am only a small bit into the project, but my vision is still the same. And it is almost identical to yours. I smiled so big when you first drove yours. I can not wait to feel that same excitement. I’m so glad to realize I’m not the only one who’s done that at a DMV. That’s one of the main places you can go to. And depending on the person, can get an entirely different result
That 180 is beautiful in white. Something about older cars like this just look so good. Shame there's not many around now that are in respectable condition.
My wife worked in the motor registries for many years (left some time ago) and said it didn’t sound right when I told her about the initial, rejection. The only thing we (I worked in the registration policy area for a time) could think would be an issue was any gap in the ownership trail, but so long as that was complete and legit, you’d be OK. As it turned out. Cheers.

Wouldn't have happened if you were working on the GEMINI!
Maybe go to the cops they may have an easier way of confirming ownership
Take it interstate and register it then transfer too nsw rego maybe 🤔 don’t give up good luck love the vids
Sounds like bureaucracy at it's finest.
Loving everyone commenting on how to fix the rego problem without watching the whole video where it's fixed. Being first is important! Nice job guys - sucks to run into someone probably having a bad day, but its a well earned win.
there was something about this series I cant put my finger on. Really well put together and loved it. 180SX such an iconic car.
Hotwheels cars is codeword for drugs. He traded his 180sx for a lump sum of drugs.
NSW sounds like a nightmare for old car lovers in terms of registration. That's a bummer. Glad you guys were able to get it sorted. Loved this build series
Nsw sounds like a nightmare in general
@@reijin64 you're not wrong
Wait till you meet their police department :D
@isocuda Never will because literally the entire rest of the country is better for cars lol
I’m a apprentice mechanic and watching your videos inspires me so much and makes me love what I do even more
Well done mcm. I’ve been following you guys for years and you guys have truely motivated me to work and modify cars.
Love the turbo flutter, sweet build. Car looks so good.
❤️❤️❤️👍👌
Moog over here making me cry and experience emotions XD Very happy this worked out. One thing I learned a few years back is trying to get registration done is like trying to get a permit. Sometimes you have to try twice.
Stunning build! One of my favorites…but as a painter and body man, have a look at your left headlight…. It’s not aligned right. The gaps drove me mad! Love you guys! Can’t wait for the next project
Yup a couple of little things to fix. Getting aligned today and proper suspension set up. Also got mats for it and a few dress up parts. Will do an update on that soon.
@@mightycarmods not forgetting the nismo cap 😉
Looks legit 90's DIY fitment to me.
@zoiu tooi its like that for a lot of things in aus everything is overly complicated and no you dont have the freedom to do anything, and anything you do want to try and do is going to have supplies locked behind some wholesaler who wont sell to you unless you have an abn or some other bs
so in other words, get back to work, stfu and do what your told, u can retire only moments before u die, now stfu and make me rich
Love yall
Amen brother
Holy throwback Batman! Does this mean we get to watch Marty blow up a Subaru transmission in the near future?
*I will destroy all Nissans*
Hope so that's always fun
I mean, it isn't mighty car mods if Marty isn't blowing up Subaru gear boxes and Moog isn't trying to beat that Subaru in a car that cost twice as much...
I'm happy you got it registered. I was worried this whole video would be a circus of dealing with trying to get it registered. I've been waiting on my reg-o for my recent car purchase for two weeks. I'm getting really itchy to go for a drive. Enjoy your dream 180 build Moog!!
And we get chill jams and a time lapse?!? great finale guys!
INCREDIBLE. Thank you for taking us on this journey with you.
More than anything, I'm glad to see the spoiler finally attached to it. Great work defeating the paper pushers, lads!
They would've had more trouble with the rego if the car had come from another state in Aus too.
People just don't wanna do their dang jobs man.
Sounds like it's worth it to drive an extra half hour or whatever to try your next closest branch
Love you
The cinematic summary of the builds are always so mint 👌🏽👌🏽let’s go boys
My brain hurts. Here in the states, when we buy a car, we don’t need to go to the last person who registered the car. There is a VIN search to ensure the car isn’t stolen…
And you have a title. The title goes with the owner, unless it's a full on abandoned vehicle, etc. Even then you can have a title created to legally obtain the car, etc.
The issue isn't the VIN it's that it was traded when unregistered
@@gamedeathmatch again… not an issue here. As long as the title is transferred. Registration status doesn’t matter
@@oskar6661 I forgot about that. Been a while since I bought a used car…
In some countries, you are required to have a deed of sale and last registration from the original owner, have it notarized etc., else it is considered stolen/fraud.
Massive props boys. Seeing this thing transform has been an awesome journey to watch.
Love projects like this. Seems to transcend the actual work itself. Beautiful stuff.
I simply loved watching this journey. The 180sx was always a dream for me before I viewed your channel and saw these episodes, it truly inspires me to get at it one day. Many blessings!
Absolutely loved this, martys lil ending on this was just perfect, happy for you guys, makes me wanna go buy the first car I owned and engine swap it and do all the things I was too broke to do
MIGHTY CAR MODS!
Great resto boys, you really have done a great job. The music was epic Moog. Cheers.
Jake: "Where's the Caddy?"
Elwood: "I traded it for a microphone"
Jake: *looks at Elwood*
"I can see that..."
I can’t imagine many mcm fans will get a BB reference… it’s dark, and we’re wearing sunglasses. Hit it
But is it 200miles?
Do you smoke?
Gas in the tank?
I've always thought Marty and Moog looked like the BBs! Marty's too tall, but his face looks strangely like John Belushi. And Moog would make a pretty good Elwood! 😄
Bro the vocals hit me in the heart @14:00
You guys rock.
The spoiler alert at the end brought it to another level
Did the dude who "swapped" the 180sx never file the change of ownership forms with the RMS? They might not have a "chain of ownership" in their records, which would maybe indicate that it's stolen?
Even if it was stolen...if insurance paid for it then it's free and clear.
The annoying thing with these type of cars they often change hands a few times without having rego done on them. I had a similar issue with a s13 that was sold twice since it was last registered. lol.
@@tristanmeadows all of the cars ive owned were from the third non registered owner (bc cars like that are cheap)
If it's not registered then there's no record of ownership with the state authority.
Hence requesting a copy of the receipt from the person you bought the car off.
can you do a change of ownership on a deregistered/unregistered car anyway?
Moog: I'm older and more responsible now, I'll wait until I'm on a track.
Also Moog: second gear pull in a residential street
Sweet build, can't blame him lol
some people really don’t get how much cars can mean to others. i’m really glad i was born at the start of the 2000s, and am lucky enough to still be able to experience older cars in their well deserved glory, epic video boys 💪🏼
That's nuts. I've done the exact same thing as this same situation in VIC twice and haven't needed a receipt. Total BS
Edit: Ok well I'm glad you actually got someone with their head screwed on straight.
Other difference with VIC is you only need a roady (pink slip in NSW) not a specific one for new rego. the engine and vin is checked by the Vicroads worker.
@@tristanmeadows Yeah I mean how are they going to tell otherwise? Not that it should matter anyway as we don't have titles like the US
Yep Vic is easy to get it registered
unless its club reg they dont need to see car at all
That’s such a nice build. Not too heavy, not too light. Just right 👍🏽. Love your work guys.
Love the content regardless of the major bummer. Keep it up boys.
The visuals at the end are just of the chart, the 180 looks and sounds amazing!
Not just car enthusiasts... All ICE. They want all electric for sure.
Depending on the state, the laws regarding this vary, but usually you just need the signed title document that's been signed from the previous registered owner, and if you have a bill of sale with your name on it, and if there aren't any liens on the car, you're good to register it.
never had a problem.. maybe in commie-fornia?
@@Tiny_Boats_And_Bikes wow, that stinks.
Hey gents,
For future reference, the power under which they can ask you for receipts/stat decs like this arises under r.9(1)(b) of the Road Transport (Vehicle Registration) Regulation 2017 (NSW). It’s a broader requirement than what’s on the website, but that’s the letter of the law.
Glad it worked out for you, though.
The person behind the counter makes all the difference.
I was doing a huge slide in Forza Horizon 5 while watching this video and when the music kicked in at like 14:25 I got chills. Epic stuff.
Omg I’m glad for you guys. I literally feeling angry about the bad parts I could feel the beats of my heart in my neck and forehead lmao
Also, it will forever be "one bot", not the expected "180 T" you were going for 😅
It'll actually forever be " OG 180" from the days of jdmst
Could a police check avoid needing a receipt from the last registered owner?
Poster arrived at the Netherlands and I'm very happy with it!
Thank you MCM
Such a nanny state when it comes to passing perfectly road worthy cars. Try a different state to rego it?
I have a feeling the 1st person Marty and Moog saw really hates their job or they they get their rocks off making customers miserable or both !
It will be another year before it happens. But it will happen!
Congrats on such an awesome story! 🤘
If only you had used your time to fix the GEMINI!
ive seen so many MCM cars over the years and i must say i think this gorgeous 180 is my favorite of the bunch. you gentlemen did a great job. hats off
Still own my '91 S13. It's been sitting, rusting, neglected for years now due to lifes requirements. I really want to bring it back to life though. Ive owned it for 13 years now and think it deserves to be brought back to its former glory. It's my favourite car, period.
This is probably one of, if not, my favourite epiaode of MCM. This hit me right in the feels and really started a fire under me to find time to bring my KA-T S13 back to life.
Cheers boys, keep doing what you do. Cant wait to see this car on the track.
Really nice to see this build finished and the hurt of your first version alleviated! 💔
amazing build and video I saving up for a 180sx as my first car and repairing with dad also bought your 180SX Poster 2 days a gone cant wait to get it
Much love from the USA!
Glad you got the vehicle registered.
Oh man, nostalgic! Wow watching this series was a blast, a touching remembering "that" car from back in the day. Sticking through it all, am totally stoked to see you realize the dream Moog. MCM rocks!
Moog, mate the vocal in that track giving me goose bumps ....epic tuuuuuuune .. epic build. Love this channel :)
Wow what an amazing result for an amazing journey and car. Well done to all involved and thank you for bringing us along for the ride!
Congrats guys, I'm happy to see you built a nice looking 180sx with not going crazy on mods and stuff.
That's crazy! Our cars have plates after registration and it's only swapped when changing owner. It's good to see that 180 will live on!
This series made me so happy and inspired. Like everything these boys make! I'm in love with those noises.
Man... This is what it is all about! I am so proud of you guys. Builds like this make me so hopeful for my 91 BRG Miata build!
Cheers.
