18/10/23 - Update! Today I was finally able to test and record the Quest 3 mic quality. Quite frankly it sucks, even worse than Quest 2. If you want to hear a comparison, I've shared a clip on my Twitter and Facebook page. I'm so sorry I couldn't test this sooner, as I mentioned in this video, I've had audio driver issues using link since the headset arrived.
Off topic but is Virtual desktop still a side quest thing or does the actual app work again? Sucks about the mic tho. That makes it a harder upgrade decision for social gamers.☹️
You got a bad one. Others have better sound. How about you address the Quest 3 dead pixels issues being reported and people returning several times to get one with no dead pixels ?
Hi Mike, Just as a warning: the Quest 3 controllers also have an IR tracking light at the bottom of the handle. When you use your Quest 2 grip covers, you are completely covering up this tracking LED. You can probably mod the grip covers by drilling holes in them. Keeping this IR light unobstructed will no doubt improve your tracking a lot!
I have had my Quest 3 for a couple of hours now and I can honestly say it is a big improvement over the Quest 2. Nothing wrong with the Quest 2, but this really is a much better experience. I was shocked at how much clearer and sharper things look. Quest 3 is an awesome headset
Wasn’t that impressed initially because graphics looked quite similar to quest 2. Even the first experience games had those Quest 2 graphics. However when I purchased red matter 2 i was blown away at how good it looks. Comparing red matter 2 to my quest 2 was a night and day difference. Hope more games are going to be optimised for the quest 3 because its amazing.
@@doodgeslagenmugYeah obviously the games are gonna look mostly the same because it’s the game developers that update the textures and stuff lol. It’s oculus themselves that add the new shadows and lighting.
It's interesting how simplistic the packaging is becoming for electronics and such these days. It used to be so flashy and over-the-top. But I like how it's all more eco friendly, and also easier to unbox. No more ridiculous "unboxing experiences."
I also kinda like it, nowadays when a laptop or headphones or some other piece of tech comes in what's basically a pizza box, look at the Lenovo IdeaPad gaming 3 for example, you know it's gonna banging, high quality, from a good company tech
its crazy just how much size the lenses on the quest 2 alone were taking up space when comparing to the quest 3, vr is improving at such a rapid rate that it boggles my mind
It took 3 years for the Quest 3 to arrive but yes in the part of this year 2023 there are many new choices , like the Quest3, the Pico5 coming out, Big Screen Beyond, and later next year maybe the newer model of the Valve Index, and the Apple Vision Pro.
@@cyrusfolami898mate, I started on my little C64, got .y first PC in 1998, first time I accessed the Internet was in 1995 on one of the AOL chat applications and that was ot, hooked for life. I tested the Quest 3 and on my home 1gb connection it gets 800mb every time
@@jamesgornall5731it is incredible, there is no other VR thing like it on the market. It’s more of a computer than a VR headset. Apple is using this product sort of as a way to show off what’s possible, it’s not meant to be a product for the masses yet
As a person who had never touched VR before, I ordered one right away after watching a few reviews. In simple words: Quest 3 will be my very first gateway into VR.
Such a nice headset to be your first! ''you always remember your 1st!'' 😉👌 My first headset was a HTC VIVE and it had my jaw on the floor. I've been a VR junkie ever since! this Quest 3 is well worth the price in my opinion. I got the 512GB Version.
@@WOojerVest3andQuest3onMe As someone who haven't experienced vr yet, but have a decent pc (5800x3d, 4080), would you recommend quest 3 for mainly pc vr and maybe some standalones like ac nexus? I would buy a wifi 6 router for it and use it for games like half life alyx and some sim racing games. The thing im wondering the most is that is this comparable to other pcvr headsets or would it be a lot more compromised compared to something like htc vive or index.
@@nese1 I am similar to you, considering my first VR headset purchase. From research, it seems the main issue compared to the dedicated PCVR headsets is the lack of true blacks, so graphically it will be not quite as good. However, it is MUCH cheaper, and you are not permanently tethered to your computer.
@@nese1honestly if your budget is tight get a quest 2, I used mine for pcvr and it worked great but if money isn't a concern then quest 3 all the way
@@KiRiTO72987 My budget isn’t too tight, could buy Index kit but it seems to be getting old by now, and it appears to have really bad qc issues. Anything else like beyond and vive pro 2 are just really expensive for what you get. Quest 3 seems to tick all the boxes for half the cost but im still wondering if there is a catch, is it the same experience or more like streaming from pc to a mobile device.
I specifically am getting the quest 3 for the mr possibilities. As a sculptor I'm curious to see how I can use this to enhance sculpting. I'm imagining having a virtual object that I can sculpt in real life, as a 3d sjablone, as it were. And besides that, I travel a lot and spend too much time in hotel rooms. So watching movies on big screen, having a virtual door that opens up to a beach....lovely! That said; I wonder if there will be a possibility to 3d record a room. That way I could be anywhere and go back in my living room when I'm homesick.
Same here. I really enjoy modeling in VR (Gravity Sketch), but dislike being so isolated from the rest of the world the entire time I'm doing so. MR will allow me to easily pet my dog, grab a sip of water, check a text on my phone and such, all without being taken out of "the flow" by having to remove the headset. It should also help alleviate that feeling that someone is quietly sneaking up on me while "blindfolded" in VR.
Oh dear, you should have perhaps at least seen what the Pico 5 would bring. This has a 16MP camera instead of the Quest 3's 4MP camera. I've bought the Quest 3 also but for PCVR, and it just shows how versitle the headset is that we've bought it for two completely separate reasons other than mobile VR gaming.
@JohnnyNoPockets I have been teaching, yes. But nevertheless I'm not aware that there aren't many sculptors around today. I'm a sculptor, so is my wife, and so are most of my friends! I have no idea what you are talking about. Sculptures are still being made... people are still making them.
Great review, thanks. Just a little update about the Zenni prescription lenses - the stated price is £50 but when processing the order you pay just under £75 as tax isn't included (unusual for UK) also you have to pay for express delivery (£12) even though I pre-ordered them and had to wait 2 weeks for delivery. However, I'm glad you found them a good accessory.
God I hate how the US doesn’t include tax ahah, that was the weirdest thing about leaving the US was being able to pay for something that’s 5 euros with a 5 euro note or whatever, so sick. Cash is so clunky in the US.
@@SlunkyBoi US doesn't have a national sales tax so a quoted price with tax would only be for that city if you were to advertise. But the good news is that there is no tax on prescription lenses in most of the US.
Ads only need to say "$16.99+tax". There's literally no reason to not include tax. It's not like the stores don't know what the taxes are (how else would they charge you right at the register?) The rest of the world has done this just fine. If I walk up to a store and the price tag says $10, then I should be able to pay with a $10 bill and walk out with that object.@@kkrazy2263
I wont be upgrading my Rift S but having not checked into this community for a while, my mind is blown with how far it has come along. The MR feature is amazing, and the colour pass through alone looks great.
Upgrading from the CV1 I've had since Mar 2018, talk about a massive, massive leap forward. Going back to the Rift after the batt needed to be charged was mindblowing with how far the lens tech has come. I'm excited to see how the next few years go!
I too have a Rift CV1 I see almost no downsides considering you can play ganes with the graphical quality through wifi streaming ir a dedicated cable, let me know how the blacks compare led vs lcd
My Quest 3 will arrive tomorrow and I also am upgrading from the CV1 that I got during launch week of that headset. Pretty excited to see how much the technology has improved over the last 7 years. Haven't tried any other VR headsets between CV1 and now.
Still rocking an OG Quest. Been wanting to upgrade for a while. For as little as I use it, I haven't felt the improvement in tech has been there to justify it from one generation to the next though. Leapfrogging to the Quest 3 however, may be what I've been waiting for.
That's about where I am. I used my Quest 1 for the first time in a while recently and it was much laggier than I ever remembered it. I guess games getting updates for the graphics & processing the Quest 2 could support have killed the framerates on Quest 1. Beat Saber is still good but the table tennis game I really enjoyed was too laggy/buggy to play, even on the most basic graphics settings. If there are some quality new titles that come out for the Quest 3, I'll definitely consider upgrading.
I had planned on going from the 1 to the 3 but my original fried itself in May of 2022, then the replacement weirdly did the exact same thing a year later in May of 2023, so I figured I'd just get the 2, but I still wish I could've just gotten the 3 lmao
I still use my OG Quest daily with My WOojer Vest 3 for working out! just picked up My Quest 3 512GB yesterday it is Amazing how sharp and crispy clear the image quality actually is. I was immediately blown away. The battery life on this thing is a joke. luckily, I was able to plug in my Anker 26,700K Powerbank into the headset and got about 11 hours of gaming in. Heck Yeah! this is a huge upgrade over the OG Quest except for the OLED. 😉👌
Same here, been using my OG Quest since a couple months after release. I'm planning to get the Quest 3 this week now that I saw I can get it on Amazon with 5 payments of $100 over 5 months. I love their payments, they've helped me buy so many big ticket items, cuz I don't have a credit card so their payments allow me to buy things like a 65" LG C1 for $125/month over 12 months with zero interest. It's awesome.
Got mine yesterday and I think the improvement in visuals is great. Have been using these headsets since the first Oculus Go and the evolution has been really good. With this one, I’m having trouble finding it comfortable but I am sure it will get better once I get a different head strap and facial interface. Looking forward to see your reviews about those accessories. Keep with the good content! You are my go to person for any VR related info. Always on point and unbiased. Cheers!
How are the black levels compared to PSVR2? I wish Meta would of included local dimming for it's LCD display. The lack luster black levels are going to be the headsets achilles heel and lack of any real 3rd party titles outside of Resident Evil 4. Get ready for another indie VR Cess pool. :P
11:15 The Quest 3 has a battery is roughly 3.6 amp hours. Assuming ~5 volt batteries we get 18 watt-hours. From 18 watt hours we get ~ 9 watts of average power draw assuming a 2 hour playtime. But here's the problem - A USB 3.x port can only provide around 5 watts of power, and the max a normal USB C can provide is 15 watts (but often motherboards don't support this full amount). If you're stuck on a USB 3.x port, you'll only get like 3.5 hours of playtime even with your headset plugged in if my napkin maths are somewhat accurate.
@@leighhaynes Possible but not yet known. It'd need to be running full power to drain which is possible, but at the same time I assume power draw will be slightly lower for PCVR due to not pinning the CPU.
I guess decoding the stream is still quite tasking, Native DisplayPort over USB-C would be a much better solution for PCVR. Hopefully @VirtualRealityOasis will test battery drain and confirm.
Could you not do a proper comparison with PSVR 2? Seems like it was ignored only when bringing in negatives? How’s the visuals compared to PC / PSVR2 ? How are the haptics compared to the PSVR 2? How are the visuals without OLED?
Can't wait to get mine. I'm actually really hyped about the possibilities of MR. That technology is so interesting and spatial computing is the future. About the Quest itself, all I've ever wanted was wider FOV, so I'm glad that's happening and better resolution is always a plus even though the Q2 has always been good enough for me.
I can't see these mixed reality possibilities myself. If it was a lightweight pair of glasses you wore all day and came across augments throughout the day yeah. Can't imagine wanting to walk around with this on my face, full VR is the only way to use their headset
It feels like there have been more new headsets the past few years than new games. I recognize the importance of developing hardware that is comfortable and functional enough for large-scale adoption, but I feel like the lack of software support is really hindering the industry right now. Even as an enthusiast and current Quest 2 owner, I'm just not gonna buy a Quest 3 until there's something new to do with it. Releasing a new headset with ZERO launch titles feels like a huge misstep.
I don't understand the issue? It's completely backwards compatible and it's capable of running better experiences for the general public. I'm also a PCVR enthusiasts, but I like showing off the quest 2 to my relatives and I watched the software continue to get better at a rapid rate. Everything has to start some where. I use my quest 2 pretty regularly and I welcome the hardware upgrade (even if its not very significant to some), because that means more room to grow!
@@smittyvanjagermanjenson182 I'm not saying it's not a good headset, I'm just saying they haven't provided a compelling reason for the average VR user to shell out $500+ to buy one now. There will be some people like yourself for whom the hardware upgrade alone is worth a purchase and that's totally fine, I just think they missed an opportunity for a stronger launch because there are people like me who have played all their current VR games to death already and will wait to buy until there's a couple of new games out that are worth upgrading for.
Im really excited about the whole mixed reality, to be able to customize you room or house like that could be really cool and will only get better in the future
I ordered a 512 model. I’m coming from the quest 1 which I hung onto as I never saw a reason to get the quest 2. Seemed more like a meta rebrand release opposed to an actual upgrade. This seems substantially improved and I’m excited for pass through just to be able to keep the headset on to perform basic tasks.
I was never disappointed with the upgrade from the Q1 to the Q2. However, that being said, I have no doubt that going from the Q1 to the Q3 will be quite the difference for you! I hope to have mine tomorrow.
I don't think I would have been disappointed upgrading from the Q1 to Q2 but (in my opinion) the Q2-Q3 upgrade is more significant. Amazon says I'll have mine Wednesday!@@plasticlife283
When quest two came out, it was called oculus quest 2, it was not a rebrand. It was quite a while after it was released before the company changed the name to Meta quest 2.
I was just trying to look if they shipped from USA or UK so thanks for that. Im in the UK and can see a company called Adlens has them for pre order for £80, im happy to pay £5 more and have them ship from the UK so I get them quicker unless anyone knows a better supplier in the UK?
Its amazing seeing the tech get better each year since 2016 when oculus came out. How that the userbase and hardware are at a certain level i can really see a software boom over the next 2 years.
Software takes a long time. The hardware was never the main concern, but the software dictates the userbase, and the userbase incentivises the software.
@@WavyCats Hardware has always been the main concern. If we could get the form factor of the bigscreen beyond, the processing power of a PC, and the price of a Quest 3 all in one, then everyone would be buying it. But that might be at least a decade away.
I've come really close to pre orfering. But I think I am going to hold off for a few months until more games have been optimised for Q3 and new games etc. Who knows maybe they'll be some discounts in a few months time too!!
@@th3g0sl0w the QUEST 3's preorder are actually quite low compared to any other headset they made... Facebook's quest series has been imploding for a while
You mentioned comparisons to Bigscreen Beyond but would love to hear more on how the lenses and resolution compares to other headsets like the Pimax Crystal or Varjo aero etc.
A friend of mine bought a Quest 3 today and it's his first truly VR headset since Google Cardboard... I can't imagine what his face will be like when he presses the power button for the first time 🤣
Nice review, sold my Q2 to upgrade to this and it seems to be worth it from the review. It's really come a long way, I'm just hoping the next upgrade will feature OLED displays, even wider FOV and of course even smaller. Then we're pretty close to a perfect VR experience. I ordered the 128gb version, hope I won't miss the extra memory with titles becoming bigger.
Pre-ordered and already got a shipping notification from Meta today. Totally hyped for the new controllers - did have lots of tracking issues with the Quest Pro controllers in my environment. Planning to use the Quest 3 for more physically demanding titles - Quest Pro possibly for PC VR simulation only. Let's see, how much display differences I will spot compared to the Quest Pro.
At 5:32, you demonstrated the glare test in TestHMD. Was this captured through the lens with a camera or directly from the application? I ask because it is extremely clean and doesn't appear to exhibit any glare at all.
Glad to see the mention of the Soundcore earbuds. I picked some up for my Quest 1 only to realize it doesn't support USB audio :( So definitely excited for this upgrade and to finally try the earbuds out in VR!
Those earbuds are awesome. I wanted wireless earbuds for my Steam Deck, but didn't want to spend too much since I have AirPods for my main set. After experimenting with different codecs and earbuds trying to deal with audio latency, I got tired of it and just purchased the soundcore vr earbuds. They sound great and no more audio delays - also it's so awesome for VR being able to take off the headset and not have to deal with removing your wired audio first.
You waited out all that time and skipped the quest 2? Respect, man. The image clarity is gonna blow you away, considering how the quest 2's pixel density is already a lot better than the quest 1.
I've been waiting for this review. My Quest 1 is good, but want a more comfortable experience. Thank you for the comprehensive review. I'm looking to streaming to friends in the future, so hoping this will be pretty easy, as well as comfortable to do decent sessions. By the looks of it, it will be. Thank you
@@Puglife2 I'm not surprised by that. Doesn't make good business sense to support something that has a reduced amount of users. Still frustrating though. A friend has bought the Q3 and rates it highly, so time to save some pennies 😁
There is an small extra tracker in the bottom of the controller to combat occlusion when you face the controller centered for possible occlusion worries since the rings were taken off. Not a lot of people know this and I thought more people should know so there's less worry about certain angles away from the 6DoF tracking via the 4 cameras.
Your review seems fair, got the Quest 2 on launch day but skipped this one as it doesnt have that super affordable launch £299 price and there arent any must have platform unique titles in its eco system for me yet.
I got the Quest 3 for Christmas. I came from the Rift S and the 3 is a big improvement. Going full wireless is a huge step forward. I have taken down the cable track system I had. Steam link and the quest link works well and I can can play my PC VR games. Nice thing is they gave me Asgard Wrath PC game and the 2 for quest. When I logged into my Quest PC app, 1 was available to install.
im upgrading from a quest 1, 1 not 2, and im really excited to get my hands on this thing. im steadily watching the tracker and it should be here by tomorrow night
Great video Mike, always check your reveiws first, was waiting for 4 pm! I can't wait to get mine tomorrow. I haven't been that hyped for it as I'm one of the few who has, and loves the Quest Pro, but I'm excited to see what Quest 3 can do. I must say, in your video its a much better looking headset physically than I previously thought, almost cute!
Good Morning, I just received my Quest 3 yesterday, and I can't wait to set it up and see how it works. Thank You for all your help and I hope I will enjoy it as much as these kids do. I am also interested in learning more about about ear pod for the Quest 3.
I pre ordered quest 3 , I’m on day 2 of pcvr testing and the one downfall I have found about it is the quest 2 Kuject charger link cables are not strong enough to regulate charge while playing , it slowly kills the headset as it is a more powerful headset . You would think the cable does not matter but the smart chip they use in charger style link cables regulate only the power hat a quest 2 needs to stay at or over 75% while gaming. I have tried different ways like air linked to pc while same cord was plugged in and same thing . Hopefully soon a new kuject style cable with a more capable smart chip is made soon , I like the new headset but refuse to part with pcvr
Im pleased with how it looks, i dont feel there is a rush to get one so i will go as planned and get it for xmas. Id rather wait for Amazon to get more in stock as they have better CS if something goes wrong. Will be a great jump from my Quest 1 which i currently use.
It is good idea to wait untill Christmas because this headset is not going to sell out because of its price and the fact that not many non VR fans know about it
Got mine at launch, threw a aftermarket head strap on it and it is way more comfortable then the quest 2 I can't explain why but it's like less on my neck and very little on the face, also it's more comfortable because the sweet spot is larger ur eyes strain less to keep finding it as the headset moves around abit on ur head while playing
4:30 from what i heared and seen in "thorugh the lense" footage, the lenses are so good, that SDE is back like its a 2018 headset. tys videos shows it, its more visible in the q3 then the q2 also: 5:05 53mm minimum ipd? spec sheet says 58mm
I would absolutely LOVE to see a video displaying the differences between the original quest and the new quest 3 to showcase how far vr has come for general users!!!
@MagdalenaLass I can help you out for I have both. Quest 1 looks like 720p Quest 2 looks like 1080p Quest 3 looks like 4K Which one do you prefer...? 🤔 I like em All! 😉👌😁👍
Hi Mike, honeslty am pretty exited about the quest 3, I have already pre ordered it and going from Oculust Rift (Yes the one that is like a brick and was the first oculus headset I think) to Quest 3 is going to be insane
10:00 Something you don't take into consideration is the lack of hair on your head. I bought that head strap on your recommendation for my Quest 2, but due to my hair (which is rather soft after shampoo/conditioner), the fake leather material cannot grip well and it slides up constantly. I had to take it off and never use it again. I imagine being bald helps it grip much better and therefore you may have a better experience using it. Or perhaps if someone has more coarse or textured hair? Or maybe its simply a head shape issue? I am not sure.
Would be nice to know more comparison to Pico 4, as it is 170 € cheaper than new Quest 3. FOV can be compared as same person is doing testing, so it should be relative to all. But how is contrast, optics etc?
I learned from this video that there's a 7th Guest VR game coming out. I LOVED the original 7th Guest; it was one of first CD-Rom games I ever owned. As crazy as this may sound, this might be the killer app that convinces me to get a Quest 3.
So…. I have a meta quest 2 And a PS5 I’m new to VR and love it. Should I buy the quest 3 or psvr2? I care most about processing and fidelity. The higher the image quality the better.
just got the Q3 earlier the week. it's not bad. the pass through cameras could be better but the resolution of the screen is pretty nice and can do some pretty impressive things
9:28 apparently if you just weigh the quest 2 vs the quest 3 without the facial interface the quest 3 is lighter. Apparently they have a more robust facial interface this time round I guess, and since that is literally on your face its center of gravity is of course closer to the center.
Question about performance: how does this compare with Quest 1 in terms of multitasking, user interface, boot up/resume from sleep time, launching non-game apps, etc...? Thanks!
12:52 You're actually blocking an important IR tracking LED by using Quest 2 grips on the new Touch Plus controllers. 🤷 There's not only IR tracking LED's wrapped all the way around the controller's top face, but ALSO a single IR tracking LED on the inside edge of the bottom of the handle that helps significantly with calculating precise controller angle/orientation! That LED is being completely blocked with your current setup (if it hasn't been changed since).
Picked one up yesterday and while it's certainly a better headset (although comfort wise I found it really painful.) It's not enough of an upgrade to warrant the price. I'll be returning it today. If I really looked for the difference it's there but coming from a quest 2 I found it pretty underwhelming.
Mine is out for delivery, but now there is also a waiting game. I bought the official case and elite strap with battery but eventually there will be much cheaper as well as much better option for both of these. But I'll have to be eyeing the VRcover offerings in the coming months.
I'm using Soundcore VR P10 for around a year already, as VR and also smartphone earbuds. They hold up just fine, I wondered why are those not so widely spread. The only thing I'd change in those is ability to quickly switch between at least 2 bluetooth devices and being able to turn off touch controls or customize those better (I trigger "touch and hold" control accidentally a lot).
When it comes to vr glasses and body tracking, among other things. I have an idea, the ip camera can be used for body tracking. If you have like 4 in a room, this is completely possible. But then also works for burglary protection. Want to say that many smart home products can be used for things beyond what they are built for.
I know with the quest 2 if you had lower than recommended lighting or wanted to play in the dark, you could buy an infrared light or two and it would make a big difference in tracking. Do you think the quest 3 will benefit from this in the same scenario? Or do you think it’s a waste to buy them for the quest 3
Just got my quest 3 yesterday and wow, absolutely loving it, massive improvement oflver the Q2. Quick question, what do you use to wirelessly stream to your pc? I want to make a video (I use OBS) but for the life in me cannot figure it out
Best to record gameplay directly to the headset mate if playing natively. If you’re playing PCVR you should have an output window to capture with OBS []-)
A lot of people brush over the original strap but completely fail to understand its purpose, the strap works as a basic use strap for kids, but it's also an extremely comfortable strap when laying down, this is entirely impossible to find on any other headset. The fact it can also be replaced is also why they can go for this elastic design in the first place. I'm just a little over people hating on something they don't understand nor have any experience with. Laying down in VR is probably used more than you think, I have over 15K hours in VRChat, kind of emphasizing the point. I know a lot of people like the idea of using their PC while laying down too, as well as watching movies, all of this can be done with the quest strap that no other headset can get even close too.
@@ohhzymo5829 I'm wirelessly connected to vrchat PCVR while charging my headset via longer cable. After doing that for two or three years, I checked my battery, still in great condition. There's no evidence playing while charging is bad for lithium-based batteries.
Hey Mike! Thanks for the review. I had a question, if you don't mind. How do you feel the Q3 stacks up to the Beyond for PCVR? You briefly mentioned image quality here, but I would like to hear your fuller opinion on that.
Removing the tracking rings is nice for you cant bump you rings on things or the other ring, but I, as a somewhat professional beat saber player, see this as a large negative, because for I have adapted the claw grip which will in this case cover the entire faceplate and most of the grip. If you could try out the claw grip and give me feedback on how the tracking is that'd be great, thanks.
Was looking forward to getting an upgrade from the Q2 a while ago but unfortunately with the shutting down of Echo VR there isn’t really any point since most other games are only small one-time experiences, meaning a waste of money if I were to upgrade🤝
Hey! As a long-time vr user who still rocks the OG Rift CV 1 I thought it was time to upgrade and the new quest 3 launch couldn't come a better time. My only problem is I want to use the quest 3 mainly as a PCVR headset and changing from a PC only headset it bugs my a bit to have a 2-3 hour max battery capacity to work with. If i use the quest link will it charge the headset while playing? And if yes how long can a playsession be with the extra charge. Or I'm better with the plus battery strap and air connection?
might be a bit late but it having it linked will change the quest 3 while playing, and it will dramatically improve battery time so you can play for 6 or more hours depending on your pcs power output
I'm having a great time with the Quest 3. I am disappointed in the battery life. I'm only getting 1 hr and 30min of play time. I ordered the Elite strap with battery. I hope that helps.
I'm always plugged in with a HP G2 and what bugs me is the fact that many meta players "have to" leave a good gaming night because their headsets has to be plugged in. Which brings me to my question, if you use a wire to a PC on this meta, do you still have to plug it in after like 2 hours of play?
If I get one, I'll be getting controller straps, VR stand, new faceplate, new strap, headphones, and a lens cover. So that's around $150 beyond the price. I play PCVR, and an annoying thing that Quest headsets do under OpenXR is warp the coloring (they are brightened and appear washed out) - I hate that and it annoys me. To correct it the programmer has to gamma the colors darker before scene submission so that the warping sort of restores them back to their original color, but that makes the darker colors VERY banded under OpenXR. This doesn't happen under OpenVR. I have no idea why their headsets do that. I guess people are having issues with the microphone - and videos aren't discussing that enough.
So I mostly used my Quest 2 for PC VR vial the Occulus (Air) Link and Steam VR to play stuff like Star Wars Squadrons. I know the review here touched on it briefly, but in terms of resolution and framerate, what kind of performance uplift are we talking about? I'm honestly already kind of sold on it just for the size and QoL improvements to pass through, but I don't really play stand-alone VR games on it (though I might grab RE4 on the Quest eventually).
I'm still sporting the old Oculus Rift S, which was a slight improvement over the original rift. Which only works dedicated to the PC. Would this be the time to upgrade my VR setup?
18/10/23 - Update! Today I was finally able to test and record the Quest 3 mic quality. Quite frankly it sucks, even worse than Quest 2. If you want to hear a comparison, I've shared a clip on my Twitter and Facebook page.

Hi Mike,
Just as a warning: the Quest 3 controllers also have an IR tracking light at the bottom of the handle. When you use your Quest 2 grip covers, you are completely covering up this tracking LED.
You can probably mod the grip covers by drilling holes in them. Keeping this IR light unobstructed will no doubt improve your tracking a lot!
Oh, good! I was wondering how putting in Walkabout would work with the controller facing the floor!
drill the controller drill the controller drill the controller
I was just about to ask about this. I love my quest 2 grips that I use, but figured they would obstruct the new placement of IR tracking lights.
Thanks for letting us know.
I'll just cut the tip off the grip covers I use. Should be easy enough with how soft the material is.
it doesn't with any current club designs@@newDell-q4w
I have had my Quest 3 for a couple of hours now and I can honestly say it is a big improvement over the Quest 2. Nothing wrong with the Quest 2, but this really is a much better experience. I was shocked at how much clearer and sharper things look. Quest 3 is an awesome headset
is it worth the extra 300 dollars more than the quest 2 for a quest 3?
Hows the comfort?
Comfort is the main reason why i dont use my quest 2
Wasn’t that impressed initially because graphics looked quite similar to quest 2. Even the first experience games had those Quest 2 graphics. However when I purchased red matter 2 i was blown away at how good it looks. Comparing red matter 2 to my quest 2 was a night and day difference. Hope more games are going to be optimised for the quest 3 because its amazing.
@@doodgeslagenmugYeah obviously the games are gonna look mostly the same because it’s the game developers that update the textures and stuff lol. It’s oculus themselves that add the new shadows and lighting.
@humbleprogress1226 yes lol, it really is worth it
It's interesting how simplistic the packaging is becoming for electronics and such these days. It used to be so flashy and over-the-top. But I like how it's all more eco friendly, and also easier to unbox. No more ridiculous "unboxing experiences."
I miss the CV1 box, that was quality
I prefer the chest box for the Quest 2. It was actually useful for storage.
I also kinda like it, nowadays when a laptop or headphones or some other piece of tech comes in what's basically a pizza box, look at the Lenovo IdeaPad gaming 3 for example, you know it's gonna banging, high quality, from a good company tech
@@dogmeat2418 Do you have a Lenovo IdeaPad gaming 3? Just wondering because I am on one right now.
Still having a Rift S with original packaging - that package was a beast in terms of quality and very satisfying to unbox ;D
its crazy just how much size the lenses on the quest 2 alone were taking up space when comparing to the quest 3, vr is improving at such a rapid rate that it boggles my mind
It took 3 years for the Quest 3 to arrive but yes in the part of this year 2023 there are many new choices , like the Quest3, the Pico5 coming out, Big Screen Beyond, and later next year maybe the newer model of the Valve Index, and the Apple Vision Pro.
I was born when internet took off. I’m still flabbergasted at how far tech has improved so quickly

As a person who had never touched VR before, I ordered one right away after watching a few reviews. In simple words: Quest 3 will be my very first gateway into VR.
Such a nice headset to be your first! ''you always remember your 1st!'' 😉👌
My first headset was a HTC VIVE and it had my jaw on the floor.
The thing im wondering the most is that is this comparable to other pcvr headsets or would it be a lot more compromised compared to something like htc vive or index.
@@nese1 I am similar to you, considering my first VR headset purchase. From research, it seems the main issue compared to the dedicated PCVR headsets is the lack of true blacks, so graphically it will be not quite as good. However, it is MUCH cheaper, and you are not permanently tethered to your computer.

@@KiRiTO72987 My budget isn’t too tight, could buy Index kit but it seems to be getting old by now, and it appears to have really bad qc issues. Anything else like beyond and vive pro 2 are just really expensive for what you get.
@@numlok I'm excited by the idea that you can sculpt around an actual object

I'm thinking of upgrading from my CV1 as well... say more things to convince me!
I too have a Rift CV1 I see almost no downsides considering you can play ganes with the graphical quality through wifi streaming ir a dedicated cable, let me know how the blacks compare led vs lcd

That's me too. I'm thinking the 3 might get me to use it often again. Wish I could see a direct comparison of features.

So the battery is going to run down even when connected with a link cable? Real shame they don’t have a low power DisplayPort mode for PCVR.
Thanks for including us PCVR gamers in the thoughts!

Why is that amazing? That is pretty normal in our lifetime.

At 5:32, you demonstrated the glare test in TestHMD. Was this captured through the lens with a camera or directly from the application? I ask because it is extremely clean and doesn't appear to exhibit any glare at all.
Glad to see the mention of the Soundcore earbuds. I picked some up for my Quest 1 only to realize it doesn't support USB audio :(
So definitely excited for this upgrade and to finally try the earbuds out in VR!

I learned from this video that there's a 7th Guest VR game coming out. I LOVED the original 7th Guest; it was one of first CD-Rom games I ever owned.
As crazy as this may sound, this might be the killer app that convinces me to get a Quest 3.
I just learned that from this video too. Crazy and it looks good too!
8:12 I had this issue with my quest 2. You need to go into your sound settings and enable the oculus mic. I dont know why.
So…. I have a meta quest 2
And a PS5
I’m new to VR and love it.
Should I buy the quest 3 or psvr2?
I care most about processing and fidelity. The higher the image quality the better.
Quest 3
We know pounds are British 😉
just got the Q3 earlier the week. it's not bad. the pass through cameras could be better but the resolution of the screen is pretty nice and can do some pretty impressive things
compared to other reviewers you are a god of review, its literally like I can't even compare you to others because it such a huge difference wth lol
9:28 apparently if you just weigh the quest 2 vs the quest 3 without the facial interface the quest 3 is lighter.
Apparently they have a more robust facial interface this time round I guess, and since that is literally on your face its center of gravity is of course closer to the center.
Is it possible to connect controllers from quest 2 to quest 3?
Does anybody know what game he is playing at 7:57 ? It’s a FPS game thanks in advance
Half life alyx
Does the progress that we have in our games get saved when transferring over from quest 2 to quest 3
Mine is out for delivery, but now there is also a waiting game. I bought the official case and elite strap with battery but eventually there will be much cheaper as well as much better option for both of these. But I'll have to be eyeing the VRcover offerings in the coming months.
The best lenses you ever seen in any VR headset you say?
What headsets are you comparing to? Index, psvr2, cv1 etc?
I wonder if you can use the face cover from the quest 2 on the quest 3 and I am using the vr cover
I guess I'll find out, since I already have an ir lamp for my quest 2
Just got my quest 3 yesterday and wow, absolutely loving it, massive improvement oflver the Q2.
Quick question, what do you use to wirelessly stream to your pc? I want to make a video (I use OBS) but for the life in me cannot figure it out
Best to record gameplay directly to the headset mate if playing natively. If you’re playing PCVR you should have an output window to capture with OBS []-)
@VirtualRealityOasis legend mate cheers for the info and really appreciate the reply, I'll have a play around tonight once the Gremlins are in bed 🤣
Best quest 3 review i have watched so far. Thanks for the upload!
Best Quest 3 review I've seen. Thanks for the great info!
I know a lot of people like the idea of using their PC while laying down too, as well as watching movies, all of this can be done with the quest strap that no other headset can get even close too.
you think its good for vrchat? 2 hours of battery seems rly bad
@@ohhzymo5829 I'm wirelessly connected to vrchat PCVR while charging my headset via longer cable. After doing that for two or three years, I checked my battery, still in great condition. There's no evidence playing while charging is bad for lithium-based batteries.
Valve should really hurry up with the Deckard - I still love my Index, but I could really need an upgrade :)
Or I'm better with the plus battery strap and air connection?
might be a bit late but it having it linked will change the quest 3 while playing, and it will dramatically improve battery time so you can play for 6 or more hours depending on your pcs power output
it will charge the q3*
I'm having a great time with the Quest 3. I am disappointed in the battery life. I'm only getting 1 hr and 30min of play time. I ordered the Elite strap with battery. I hope that helps.
Upgrading from Quest 1. The battery only lasts 30 to 45 mins at this point. Really excited for when the Quest 3 arrives at my doorstep.
What’s the best way to set up a play space for room-scale VR? Looking for some advice!
I don’t know if you will see this comment but, should I buy this as a first vr headset? If not which one should I get. Budget is not an issue
This is a great first headset for anyone looking at getting into VR for the first time []-)
@@VirtualRealityOasis thank you
Great review! Slickly edited and very thorough.
Your literally the reason I got into vr back in like 2020 tysm 🙏🙏🙏
your reviews are just awesome man, good job!
Have you played “the climb” yet? And if so, How is the tracking when reaching above your head?
Thanks for the great review. Hopefully there is a video comparing Quest 3 with Pico 4 too.
