I'm glad you did this video Blake! I won a $50 gift card from Aquarium Co-op from Bob Caylor and I made sure I included three bulbs with my order!! I'm looking forward to them growing! Hopefully I did everything right 😂 what a great tip, because I didn't know that if you kept it trimmed you could keep it from going to the top and producing a bushier plant 🤔👍wonderful and informative! Great video and thank you very much for sharing! 🤗🌱🐟🌿🙏
Try growing one in your pond Blake, they have a nice flower and once it gets to it's adult form in a pond it throws off heaps of suckers, good if you want to propagate it, I haven't got the flower to set seed yet though, I might try again this Summer with a couple of plants, I think it has to be cross pollinated with more then one plant unlike the common Lillies, something for you to try through the warmer months, you have to bring them in for winter though.
They start growing a lot quicker if you let leaves reach the surface. They suck up a LOT of nutrients though, which can be good or bad. Other plants will grow noticeably slower. Mine has floating and underwater leaves.
Yet another plant or fish that's bloody hard to find here in new Zealand. I saw one for sale years ago in a pet shop but I passed, totally regret it now.
I have an open top tank, and I kinda want to let one reach the top. Im cautious though, because everyone says thats a bad idea. My thinking is, if i let it reach the top, it provide shad for some anubias and java fern underneath.
Hey Blake! I have 3 red tiger lotus bulbs and I’ve had them for months and never sprouted. Now all of a sudden after I forgot about them and let them just do their thing bc I couldn’t keep them planted under the gravel… ONE have sprouted red leafs! And white roots! The second one has roots and small sprouts BUT it’s floating!!!?? Why? Should I let it float? Or submerge it? And the 3rd one hasn’t done much but barely sprout red color out the top.. I need help please Blake
They also say this about amazon swords, i havent found this to be true but I guess the roots may go searching for nutrients if you dont keep up with the root tabs
so i recently got one of these but the leaves are already at the top op my tank , how would i go about trimming it to make it grow something like in the video ? there are some shoots underwater like 2inches above the root ?
if that happens id trim it back to maybe 1 leaf, then try to time it so that you trim the last above water leaf when there is enough new underwater growth.
@@BlakesAquatics thanks, hubby bought one home as a gift but it didn’t look right... so he took it back. Ive since realised it had a tuber, not a bulb. So it was a regular water lily 🤨
accidents ripped the plant from the bulb.. planted it with the root & then placed the bulb in another area a little more than halfway through. you think i’m good?

Ooh I have this plant, I am so bad with keeping plants but Manage to grow these 😁 would recommend to anyone wanting to give a red plant a go

big tiger lotus are an amazing sight to behold
Absolutely agree
Great plant, kept it for years it's so nice.
Just started trying a liquid carbon someone sent me and it's going bush.
It’s one of my favorite plants.
my favourite plant
Hey man, thanks for the great information!
Thanks 👌
I love them very different to what I normally have too, I might need to get one soon
Luckily you know the place to get them 👍
cool vieo blake i might have some in my tanks in the future
Awesome video as always
Cheers mate 😊
Mmmmm red plant!

great looking plant. thanks fro the video
Thanks for watching!
Great info, really different plant. 😊👍
Glad you think so!
I had a bulb with leaves and roots on the bulb. When I placed it on top of the soil the roots grabbed the soil and dug the bulb into the soil

Are you able to collect any Lily from the wild?

Itll work but yeah shade out your other plants and itll also turn more green than red
I let quite a few leaves reach the top but it still grows underwater ones too
I bought one the other day. Do I have to plant it in soil first then transfer to the tank or can I just put in straight in the sand in the tank ?
If you are putting it in the sand youll want to put a root tab at the base. Can be done though
@@BlakesAquatics thank you for the advice 🙏🏾

I prefer to plant them so the roots can take anchor asap
I can confirm that once you allow a few leaves to reach the water surface, the plant stops putting out the underwater leaves!
So do I cut it before it does that?
Yep
So do you just cut every leaf that is going to the surface to keep it like the one in the video?
Just leave one so the plant can still take in light
If u trim the floating leaves- will the plant still flower?
no it wont flower underwater.
I was told to plant it bulb and all yesterday now I have to replant again :(
How do you keep it from coming up too high ? …… just cut the leaves off ?
Yep 👍
Great video. Is it true what they say that you must contain the roots or they will overtake the whole substrate?
They also say this about amazon swords, i havent found this to be true but I guess the roots may go searching for nutrients if you dont keep up with the root tabs
I had it melt. The new leaves are tiny. Other plants are doing good. Any advice?
It will likely be converting from emersed growth to submerged mate. Nothing to be concerned about 👍

Would anyone recommend this plant for a 5 gallon aquarium?
Sure
I've issues that the leaves, stems melts after awhile. What's the possible issue?
Not enough nutrients, place a couple of root tabs at the base
Do these plants develop a tuberous rhizome with age? Or would that be a different type of water lily....
Nah not these ones

Thats the best way to give it a chance yeah. Wait and see now
Blake's Aquatics you’re the 🐐 keep up the great videos 👍🏼
You separate bulb and plant every know and then. That’s how I grow many lilies. You just need a good bulb.
Mine. Died. Instantly 😑
