I’m beyond grateful right now I watched Bill many years ago on PBS along with my baby brother who was Autistic. My brother never spoke a word his whole life but my fondest memories of him were sitting and watching Bill paint as well as other PBS programs. Bill if you’re listening thank you for bringing back some great memories

Mr Alexander I know this video is two years old now, but watching you paint this very wonderful redwood scene is a real delight. Very serene and colourful complete with sunshine. This painting reminds me of my youth, when I would often spend time wondering in the woods with my dog. Once, I was wondering along a woodland track, when all of a sudden there were red deer leaping across the track from left to right and right to left. Worried that I was going to get crashed into by these creatures, I decided it was safer to leave the track and walk among the trees for safety. Having avoided more deer leaping around, I walked with my dog, and having gone about four hundred yards into the woods, I came upon a small clearing with a little pond in it, just like in your painting. As I stood there listening to the silence of the wood along with my dog, I suddenly heard a snapping of twigs to my right. Having turned to see what caused this sound, I was suddenly approached by a Stag, which came right up to within two feet of me. So I stood very still and hoped my dog would do the same, as I was very aware of the danger I now faced from the presence of this magnificent beast complete with regal looking antlers. This went on for about five to ten minutes. I was careful NOT to eyeball this creature. After a while, I plucked up the courage to slowly put my right arm out to touch the Stag. Suddenly He jumped slightly in response, lifted his head up a bit and stared intently at me, before stepping between me and the small pond, and within about a foot of me,He passed right across my path and wondered off into the trees to my left. Ho amazing that was to realise this Stag did not consider me as a threat to him or to his harem. Back to you beautiful sun lit painting, everything you skillfully placed on canvas was an almost mirror image of that day back in my youth approximately fifty years ago
Thank you for sharing your artwork with me sir, and for reminding me of the incident I described above.

As if it was yesterday. Such a beautiful, powerful moment. I can tell that one is a prize memory, your brain synapses have preserved that memory at the top of the list. I know exactly about that environment and have had the same experience. The Dogs pick up totally on your mood and actions and they do the same, (most of the time haha). When you get home, you have not only had a beautiful, memorable time, but so too have your pets. They too will remember that beautiful moment and time, frolicking through the trees and sniffing all the scents of the forest.. taking in all that glowing, bright green light and that moment when the Stag accepted you there. Wow..

' the brush has only two sides.. that can be a problem '' he says.
Yes, he would like to have it doing more.. What an example for the rest of us this fantastic man is.
I hope he is at peace being looked after and has that smile on his face, like he wanted.
What a wonderful character full of life and aware of nature.
Much love to him and his family from Nz. ♥️

That one spot on the Shadow Side of the big Redwood on the Right (looks like about 12" of bark is missing, and it drives my OCD. I just want to reach in with 1 hit of the pallet knife and place the bark in there. lol, it preoccupied me all through the video.
We each have our observing idiosyncrasies ...
But the whole painting comes to life by the completion, with the details of Light and Shadows.

Yes, Bill died in 1997, but his line of oil paints and brushes is still available online. The link is in the video description. His brushes are some of the best I've ever used, and the paints are necessary for this style of painting.
