Bill Alexander was the master. I really liked Bob Ross, but Bill Alexander is the OG. His paintings make Bob's look like cartoons. Bill Alexander bravo!

I started watching Bill Alexander paint in the 1980's. I have taken time off for life experiences and have started painting again. I love Bill. I recently discovered Lowell Speers who was a student of Bill's. He, too, is a fabulous artist as well as a wonderful teacher! I believe Bill is with God now--painting amazing pictures!!

Hi, greetings from Germany. Unfortunately I didn't know Bill until recently, and it's very sad he already passed away years ago. He's great! I wish I had known him earlier. Now I have a lot to do with watching him paint all these beautiful paintings, and listening to his inspiring words. Maybe he'll still receive my "Thank you, Bill (Danke, Wilhelm)" and smile down on us...

You can really tell Bill gets fired up from his artistic passion, when he begins intermixing his German and English expressions like paint on his palette. It makes me think that we can only express our fiercest and deepest passions in our instinctual language. Bill's passion for art truly shines through here.

@@jamescarter4312 bobs show wasn't really about painting, bill is the better painter but thats not the point of the joy of painting is became a huge most watched painting show of all time because its about bobs personality, his ability to help people relax and help with their anxiety and stress, bob soothing and easygoing personality and way of talking about things is what made his show what it became. he could of been cooking, holding animals, or any number of things and his personality is what draws people. watching his show is like taking a tranquilizer, its not about painting lessons, i know a lot of people who know of bob ross and watched his show and none of them are into painting..its about bob not about the painting.

Thank you for keeping Bill Uncensored...He DOES talk about God! For me I too Believe in God and am not offended but somewhat thrilled he had beenable to share so much of his thoughts that to some may seem tough or rude ...here on Alaskan Hideaway he does talk about his philosophy and maybe part is the translation of english but saying thank you and I'm expecting to see Bill in Heaven. His hope that all give Painting a try that all can paint with patience. I know he means well for everyone...and I do find myself laughing a lot! He does have a sense of humor. Great Compassion. Bill was an accomplished artist long before he chose to share his talent with the world on television. These shows were teaching moments for him. Imagine making a great piece of art in 26 minutes. Not sure anyone could do it. Especially while they were teaching at the same time.

A half hour was never enough for Bill Alexander. He always needed an hour to fit in his philosophical dialogue on top of his painting lesson. 1/2 hour painting lessons are cruel and unusual allotments of time for such an endeavor. A lot of painting is driven by thought and feeling, and is just not technique. "I think, therefore I am", I paint, therefore I am able to make mention of that distinction. Take hold of that "mighty brush", and paint on that "mighty canvas".

Sketching pencil on printer paper is different than sketching on heavy art paper, right? You should give the wood a proper texture to bite the paint, and then use latex paint to stop the paint from soaking into the wood. Then when latex paint is dry, start with the magic white or clear or the black he uses. The plywood will not flex like canvas, so try not to break your brush.
