- I finally made it to 5000 subscribers thanks you all of you. In appreciation and celebration, I decided to feature a very popular little rifle....the Glenfield/Marlin model 60. Thank you to all of my followers, and I hope to bring you much more in upcoming videos.
Theme song is "Summer of 1984" by RKVC
If your Model 60 features last shot bolt hold open, it was manufactured between 1985-88.
The rifles manufactured 1985-88 are the best Marlin/ Glenfield model 60’s to have in my opinion. You get the 18+1 magazine tube and last round bolt hold open during those years.
All model 60’s pre 1985 had the 18 round magazine tube, but no last shot bolt hold open. Post 1988 rifles had the last shot bolt hold open, but the magazine tubes was shortened to 14 rounds due to gun control measures that were brewing for the early nineteen nineties. Those evil “high capacity” magazines…
Enjoyed the video! 👍🏻💪🏻🤙🏻
I added the LSBHO to this rifle. You are correct about the manufacture dates of the Marlin 60. The fact that Marlin complied to New Jersey's magazine capacity is somewhat disappointing to me, but I guess they didn't want to lose sales in that state so they went along with their liberal ruling.
Your channel is in tune for us older guys. I’m 77 and going strong. I started watching your videos because I’m a black powder guy. I built a Tradition’s.45 cal I bought at Sears over 45 years ago. I’m working on a TVA .54 cal Virginia rifle. Congrats on the 5 k.
I still have my Marlin 60. I love it, still shoits great. Mine has the walnut stock with a American Hunting Tradition medallion and the oak leaves and squirrel with gold trigger. It was manufactured same year i was born-1979. Mines says on the barrel Marlin Model 60-79 Limited Edition and has JM stamped on it as well
You have a great 22 semi-auto that will probably never be manufactured again because Ruger does not want the competition with the 10/22. The Marlin/Glenfield 60 and the Ruger 10/22 were competitors for over 60 years and with Ruger acquiring Marlin the competition is done. The Marlin was just as accurate, and just as well made as the Ruger, but the Marlin was more affordable. Thanks for sharing your Glenfield.
I've had one for 47 year's & it still will empty the tube, as fast as you can pull the trigger. Micro groove barrel's were ahead of their time in 1975. Mine was purchased at Kmart for $49 with a 4× Glenfield scope.
I bought mine in 77 at Kmart also and like yours it’s still a nail driver. Best 22 ever.
Great looking and shooting little 60. Congrats on the channel growth.
Thanks. I'm proud to own it.
Beautiful old squirrel stock model 60. Great job with the stock work. I have a '71 year model just like it. Great shooters. They sure aren't made with the style and quality nowadays. Enjoyed!
Congratulations on 5000, you deserve more with the great quality videos you put out. Light up that squirrel rifle and get ready for fall.
Thank you.
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman Congrats. Really like your channel and the variety it brings. You sure know your stuff. I totally agree with you on the Marlin’s accuracy and its sleek lines. I wish you make a vid on CZ 452, 455 &457. CZs are tack drivers. They may surprise you like the Remington 581 surprised me. I am in the market for one (Remington 581). I have 6 CZs. All are phenomenal shooters.
I thought that was a Simmons scope! man tho whole setup just takes me right back to when I was 14 -15 years old😊 the good ol days brother! And those old marlins, ther wax nothing you couldn't hit with it-
Keep up the good work. You have 5k subs because you are a nice down to earth guy. We can all enjoy your content. All the best. Looking forward to hunting season! 👍👌😁
I'm glad to see that you enjoy the videos I post. Thanks.
Great video Sr like always and I'm totally with you on the classic Marlin 60 👈is the best 22 rifle ever in my opinion and my others shot on my friend 👍
Whatva a great channel national asset congrats great werk
Congratulations, watching your videos is always time well spent. Great job on the rifle restoration. Restoring vintage 22 rifles has been a great pass time for me lately. I get a lot enjoyment from finding beat up great old rimfire rifles and giving them lots of love.
Thank you Cumberland outdoorsman, your a class act!
I'm so glad you enjoyed the videos I posted. I also love old .22's, they are a passion of mine.
I have a problem with watching your videos, I can not stop! I keep going back and watching old ones over and over. The best one that keeps me intrigued is the tests on the hollow point shorts. What a under rated cartridge . Took a lot of Raccoons in my very younger years. Just love your presentation of the 22 rimfire and rifles. 👍👍👍👍👍✌🏻🇺🇸😎
Congratulations on your 5k subs I enjoy your videos, I to enjoy 22 rifles especially the older ones they are hard to beat I bought my first 22 in 1960 a Westley Richards made in 1887 Martini action rook rifle, and it still shoots well today here in Scotland .
I'm sad it took me so long to find the channel! Love what you do! Thank you! The 60 is my go to semi auto. I own Marlin and GlenField models in a few configurations. One of my favorite is the 75C which was made to look kind of like an M1 carbine with barrel band. Got a killer deal. It was new in box from Woolworths with receipt and tags from 1974. I bought it that way for $75 in 2014. My go too is the Marlin I bought in 1987 after completing my hunters safety. $100 of snow shoveling money and I had myself the kmart scope case and rifle combo package. I'll be taking it out for squirrels this coming Saturday here in NM. Keep up the good vids!
Good for you young man! It's refreshing to see that there are still folks like you that know the true value of earning something. The things we acquire from work are always more appreciated. I worked for two weeks at a restaurant to earn enough to buy my first .22 rifle (a Remington 581 bolt action), and I still have it to this day.
I like the fact that you earned the money to buy it. You will always have pride of ownership and of it putting gam3 on the table.👍✌🏻🇺🇸🦫
My brother had the 75c carbine I had the anniversary medallion model 1978 otasco..
Love the videos since I’ve found you. You have a lot of great knowledge and I love hearing it. Love watching the hunts also. Looking forward to some archery hunts. Hopefully you have more luck than I’ve been having archery hunting lol. I’ve been holding out for a bigger buck and didn’t want to take any does yet so it’s just the game I’m playing. Keep up the good work 👍🏻
The season is still young my friend, and the rut is yet to happen. Lots to look forward to. Thanks for the nice comment.
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman thanks.
I just gave my oldest son (now 42 ) my Glenfield model 25 that I purchased new in 1968. Now I really miss it even tho I have 5 other 22 rimfire rifles however that was the meat gun for 50 years.
Congratulations on hitting 5000 subscribers 👏👏👏 I think I started to follow your channel 4 years ago. Like all of them and what a wealth of knowledge on the 22s and the ammo they shoot. 👍👍👍👍👍✌🏻
Nice glenfield model 60, well restored
Congratulations on 5,000 subs! Really appreciate your channel and the wholesome content you put out! Looking forward to more great videos! God bless
Just saw this. Congrats! Really enjoy your vids and have told my old friends about you. Your doing a great job. Keep ‘em coming. Doug
A well earned 5300+ subscribers. Another great video, Most youtubers just show spray and pray videos with out the history. I like using 1 inch price stickers for targets, I use a six o'clock hold, and they are much less expensive than the target stickers.
Pretty sweet rifle! I have been wanting one of those like forever!
Beautiful job on cleaning it up.
A great find ! Enjoy your videos keep up the good work.
Thanks!
Just acquired a '79 JM model and really like it!
Congratulations, and thanks this informative video, ammo tests are so good.
Congratulations

that mdl-60 is a masterpiece . i'll take 10 bricks of eley. i like your videos cause their clear and succinct.
I am trying to get more of it myself. I need to try it in my bolt action rifles, I'll bet it shoots lights out!
Your doing great, I really like to see the different rounds shot into different Media showing the results and what you may expect to see on a game animal. Thanks for all the hard work you've put in to make the videos.
Thanks. I am thinking of making another video featuring the .22 short once again, because there is more information I would like to present to my viewers.
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman I have a small channel myself called Love The Hunt. You're probably have to use my name to find it John Rankin we do Hunting and shooting as well. I have multiple boxes of antique rounds including shorts. I'm going to guess they came from the 1950s and '60s. I would love to see a video on the shorts
You are genuine and natural, that’s why I enjoy your content. Congratulations on 5000
I trust your opinion and look forward to your videos keeps me well informed and enhances me Keep up the good work
Congratulations!!! Glad to be a subscriber and watch every video. Great down to earth videos. Now time for you to start harvesting those tree rats !!! 😂😂 Take care !!! 😁🇺🇸😁🇺🇸
Thanks! I really appreciate it. I'll be doing a catch and cook squirrel video real soon.
Congratulations on 5k . I really appreciate you using older firearms. I also have a Remington 581 (1969).
The hunting trips are great to watch since I don't get the opportunity to hunt like I used to.
The demonstrations are great too.
Please continue the great job.
Thank you.
I'll do my best. Thanks for your comment.
Congratulations and yes sir hard pressed to find any firearm of any kind these days for under a hundred dollars.
Under 100 ? That's a parts rifle now . And usually most parts are well worn .
You inspired me to fix mine, best 22 guns ever made! Congrats on the sub count bud
Congratulations keep the squirrel hunts coming this fall
I'll do the best I can. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
Congratulations 👏!
Cool video, I have a Glenfield model 10 it's a single shot so I need to make every shot count an I have a Simmons scope on mine as well and it is a tac driver .The Marlin rifles like to shoot the Aguila 60 grain 22LR boy do they pack a punch
Congratulations on the Big 5,000 Cumberland Outdoorsman 😀❤️😀😊
Got the single shot glenfield 22 and a pawn shot years ago for 50 bucks good little guns
Congratulations, Tom, on reaching the 5,000 subscriber mark. Onward and upward, it seems like yesterday you were celebrating the 4,000 subscriber mark. Great content will continue to produce even higher levels of interest. Great video, the Glenfield turned out beautifully. The walnut stain took that stock to a new level. Also, your shooting just seems to get even better. The squirrels in your area are not safe, looking forward to seeing you in the woods soon. Now you’ve not only hooked me on the Remington 581’s, I now have a new found interest in the Glenfield Marlins as well. Within the past two weeks I’ve acquired two Glenfield squirrel stock rifles, one was in unaired condition and the other was hardly used. This week I will be receiving a Marlin 65 “Golden 50,” essentially a 60 but with an interesting feature, it has a brass inner and outer magazine tube and “Golden 50” stamped on the barrel. My understanding is that the 65 was made by Marlin as a promotional item for OTASCO, an Oklahoma auto supply company. Should be interesting.
Old .22's have a special quality to them. That "Golden 50" is a rare piece and well worth obtaining. There is always a story behind every old gun we happen to get.
My twin brother and I got the Glenfield Model 60 for our 12th birthday. I still have mine.
I have my second Model 60 on the way unfortunately the prices on them are going up. I have a dozen .22’s and it’s by far my best shooter. I have an 8 inch steel target 150 yard off my back deck and can consistently nail it with open sights. God I love that ping
Congratulations on your well-deserved success! May your subscribership increase geometrically. You demonstrate and ruminate, but never pontificate. Appreciated. Your .22 Series is my favorite. You’ve done a marvelous job on that Model 60 stock. None better ever arrived from Marlin. Your ammo comparison shooting is immediately valuable and all your work is enjoyable.
Again, congratulations! Standing by for more…
Congratulations on 5k subscribers, My Marlin model 60 is My favorite! I do like My 10/22 but its not My favorite.
The older you get the more you enjoy shooting a 22 i think THey are great rifles
Indeed!😊😊
That's very good I used to own a glenfield model 60 rifle the only ammunition I could get it to shoot was Winchester's.
My model 60 hates winchesters lol. CCI standard velocity and federal match seems to be its favorites
CONGRATULATIONS! Enjoy your vids. Thanks
Congrats (belatedly) on getting 5000 subs! I think you could be dubbed the Bob Ross of shooting, which is why you're enjoying your success. Looking forward to more terrific .22 series videos from you.
My best group ever was with my 1976 Glen 60. 25yds, 5 shots you could cover with a dime.
Them little 60s can shoot
I use the Marlin 795 and this year I am putting it in the 995 wood stock. But I have used the ammo you are showing and a few others, Federal champion 36 grain is my favorite, but of all the squirrel I have taken with the Marlin I am not seeing any proof of bullet expansion in a squirrel. It looks like just a clean pass thru in squirrel. I shot a 30# feral hog in the head with the federal 36 grain and the hole on the far side (exit wound) was MUCH larger than the entry side. I have thought about trying the segmented rounds this year. Oh well, happy hunting. And GREAT looking Squirrel getter ya got there.
I have to say that I have never required a hollow point bullet to kill a squirrel.
Hollow point ammo is not necessarily required to kill small game. One thing I can say with certainty is that it will anchor small critters like squirrels much more effectively. I know this from personal experience.
the Marlin model 60 is an excellent choice I love mine, try a marlin model 80 also one of my favorites. I also have a ruger 10/22 i call it my bellybutton gun, everybody has one......
Watching your video I was getting ready to leave out in few minutes and shoot my Marlin 990 and Ruger 10/22. Had the Marlin since about 1981 and it's a 1979 year production. Would like more information on doing the bolt hold open feature to the Marlin 990. It has the same action as the Marlin 60.
I've had about 5 M60's over the years and all of them have shot good.....But I have always hated the stock crown Marlin puts on them so after I re-crown them with an 11 degree target crown they have all shot better......The current and only one I have left started out as a 2001 M60 SB and it is fully customized and is a tack driver with subsonic ammo.
So you are saying that a target crown will improve my Marlin 60? That may be something to consider.
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman I re-crown my own barrels with Dave Manson barrel crowning tools and I have had fantastic results.....And I'm just saying it has worked for me will it work for you I don't know......A lot of it will depend on who & how you re-crown your barrel.
My first gun, I paid for by working as roofer's helper at 12 years of age, 40 years ago.
Beautiful rifle. I love the model 60. I think Ruger probably won't reproduce the model 60 just like you said but I can see them making the lever action's to rival the Henry's. I would like to see a Mini-14 video if you own one.
I heard rumor that the president of Ruger is considering producing the model 60 again. It would be interesting to see what they come up with.
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman that would be awesome. I know that they would be quality firearms.
Second DK's comment
.......ever heard of Marlin 99c?.......Walnut stock & with WWhi-vel solids as accurate as some(most)bolt .22s. Congrats on your videos!,& keep the accuracy testing in your reports. Very well done. Good bless.
Much prefer the model 60 Marlin. They are really two different rifles from the 10/22 so I am hoping Ruger/Marlin does bring them back.
Great vid great gun my 99c is jamming you could really fix it with ur expertise
What is the best way to get the old finish out of the checking of the stock that seems to the hardest part of refinishing a stock would like to know what you do to remove the old finish from the checking. Good video Thanks👍🌞
Remington Yellow Jackets work great in my Glenfield 60 and are Great on Ground Hogs But I would not use on Squirrels they are just to Destructive ! I use 22 Shorts for Squirrels
Don't mean to brag, but I use to hit cans without a scope as a kid at about 45 to 50 yards hit those cans and make them pop up spinning off the ground. Everytime with that gun
I was wondering what scopes you use on your squirrel rifles? Are any rimfire specific scopes?( parallax, power etc.) Also been looking for awhile and found a Remington 552. Video on that one would be great. Thanks again for your videos.
That's an interesting idea. Mostly I use Bushnell, Bausch&Lomb, Redfield, or whatever I have available.
I heard that Rosi has the right to the Marlin 925 . Rossi has a 120$ 22 rimfire rifle for around 120$ shoots great and the gun does look just like the Marlin.
Sir,where are you buying your parts for the bolt lock back for your older Marlin 60? I also have an older model with out the lock back assembly and would like to add it to my rifle, any help will be appreciated. Also i really enjoy your videos and tips.Thank you .
I know at 50yds I have 2 marlin m/60s one short an one long barrel both out shoots my savage mark 2 an ruger American. Cci standard an mini mags make nickel groups
I have a question on your rifle. I have the exact model mine is the 1979 Glenfield 60 but my safety will not move to safe unless I tap it over. If you still have your old trigger assembly I will buy it if you could part with it. I've taken my safety apart to try and solve the problem cleaning and inspecting every part. It catches on the ball bearing in under the capture spring like it falls down to far and obstructs the travel. I've taken it apart and tried everything to fix it. Please let me know if you would be willing to sell the old one if you still have it. Thanks so much John.
The only thing I replaced was the actual trigger itself. I had a similar problem with the safety before. I fixed the stiffness in that safety by machining down the center of the safety by putting it in a hand drill and using a file to machine it down while it was turning in the chuck. Taking about 1/3rd off of the ridge will usually make it work easier. If not, take a bit more off until you get it the way you want it.
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman Thanks so much for the help I will do that. I'll let you know if I'm successful.
My opinion is that Ruger will not ever produce the marlin 60 and 795 because it will compete with their beloved 10/22.I have one 10/22 and that's enough.I just keep it for my collections of .22lr rifles.I have one marlin 795 and I would buy another one.I have four model 60, two Glenfields 18 round tube mag with squirrel stock. One 18 round tube with last shot bolt hold open model 600 with a gold trigger a Big 5 sporting good store exclusive. One 15 round tube mag with last shot bolt hold open.Thats how much I like my marlins.I subscribe.
Wow! You must be a rimfire rifle collector, or just a true .22 enthusiast. Thanks for the support, I appreciate it.
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman I'm both a collector and an enthusiast.
I'm 56. My first rifle was the Glenfield mod. 60, " Alamo commemorative". Bought it at an Otasco store in East Point, Ga. Lost it. Anybody got one they dont mind getting rid of?
Where did you buy the parts for the Marlin 60 ? I am hoping they are still available. Looked in Brownells and could not find anything. Thank you.
I know what you mean. The parts I found I actually gathered from a local gun shop and ebay. Hopefully Ruger will start making the model 60 again, and also parts to fit the older rifles. I guess we'll see.
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman time will tell, those Marlin 60 give the Ruger 10 / 22 a real run for the money.
I have 2 mod 60 😊 parts are getting scarce 😢both run great
The president of Ruger has stated that they will be making the model 60 soon. I can see his thinking. Why not corner the market on the 2 best selling semi auto .22's ever made.
I sure hope you are right......I would love to see a Ruglin model 60......I sure hope they don't screw it up.
She is beautiful,I have the same gun,I even have a Simons 4x scope😊
hard to beat the old tube loaders I'll admit I prefer for a range trip my Marlin 795 for ease of reloads but for a working gun you can't beat the old k mart special
I need to make a video review on the 795.
@@CumberlandOutdoorsman since I got it from a friend during coof I've put like 26000 rounds and change through it
