Just wanted to thank you. Mine began to commonly not feed the last round which jammed between the mag tube and lifter lever. Sent it to Marlin, which sent a new Mag tube. Worked for 50 rounds and did the same thing. Used your video, took the action apart and slightly shortened the lifter/ejector spring short leg as laid out in the video. So far, 220 rounds without issue.

Repurposed another spring to replace well-worn disconnect spring to return this firearm back to active duty in wildlife control and ventilating targets, as the M60 has done for 48 years. Keep up the good work with your videos.
This helped me! I was at first intimidated by the complexity of the lower mechanism when I first saw it, this video made it nice and approachable. I made a spring tool like Arrowdodger has using a square file and vice grips on a little screwdriver bit. I didn't have a paper clip handy, so I used a blunted fish hook to hold the hammer spring back. My 60 hadn't been taken apart completely and cleaned in about 18 years. It was still running fine, but the buffer fell apart and chunks of it stuck the safety in the 'fire' position. And the bolt felt a little gritty. Now I have a working buffer (I got a 3-d printed one on ebay), a working safety, and a smooth-operating action.
I tried to fire my Marlin 60w today and it wasn't ejecting anything. The last time it was fired was when my dad bought if for me in the early 90s and it had never been cleaned. Got home and took it apart and it was so dirty that I didn't feel right putting it back together without taking apart the action and deep cleaning it. The manual said take it to a gunsmith but I found your video and it gave me the confidence to break down the action and clean it up and reassemble it. I just wanted to tell you I really appreciate you taking the time to record this and post it. Thank you very much.
I can't thank you enough, arrowdodger. My plastic buffer block broke and I assumed the pin with the e-clip slid out for easy replacement. When I finally took the sideplate off, the hammer spring and bridge went one way and the hold open spring came loose from the hold open bar. If not for your video I would have been off to the gunsmith for help. I am beginning to work on my own guns, and as a machinist of 32 years, I feel stupid when something of this nature happens. As a fellow admirer of the 60, I intend to subscribe and watch all of your Marlin Model 60 videos!

"Discontinued item" when I searched for strut bridges, but I found it on the floor. I really don't know how to put all this back together though, it seems like its gotta be opened up to put the bridge back.
Mechanisms like these can really humble a person. If you don't know about "little surprises" beforehand, plan on having some bite you. Any more, I tend to work on such assemblies in a plastic bag. It helps contain flying parts in the "Surprise!!" phase of the job...

Thank you very much for this video. The model 60 is the first 22 semi-auto I've owned. I remember buying it w/Christmas money when I was a kid (approx. 1982). I've put thousands of rounds through it before it started to have FTEs. Lotsa squirrels went down to her. I feel I can order some new springs and rebuild the action with the help of your video. I was going to ask if you know why the bolt catch wasn't working on my Marlin 60 SB but I watched this video and realized the ejector wire was pushes out of place and to the side! It was because I pushed a cleaning rod through the barrel too hard and it hit the bolt knocking the ejector wire out of place. Thank you for this video
I was hitting the ejector with the cleaning rod as well, but then purchased a Boresnake. It Runs the cleaning debris out the muzzle instead of the action. Its super. Thanks.
Very helpful video ! My lifter arm is rubbing on the right side of the channel in the feedthroat where the end of the lifter goes up and down - if I put pressure on the lifter pressing it to the left (so it's in the middle of the channel), it's fine - if not, it rubs enough to cause a squeak and I can feel the difference in the lifter's movement. I don't think that grinding down the leg of the ejector lifter spring is gonna center the lifter - any suggestions ? Thanks!
The point where the lifter spring leg contacts the lifter may be not square? The lifter is punched metal with edges likely not square that may force the lifter to one side. The spring arm likely not parallel either.
Thanks my 99m1 is firing like a champ, used your vids and nickel tip. Feels good. I also used dry lube mopro instead of oil, a little messy but hopefully does the trick.
I have no preference of the black or white ones. I have not seen failures of the newer materials. Seems like 40 plus year old buffers are prone to cracking.

Great vid! I'm subscribed now. I used this vid today to take apart my Marlin model 60, a 1998 model, for replacement of the recoil buffer, the main spring in the bottom(for the Bolt) as well as the firing pin and charging handle. The firing pin has yet to come, but I figured I'd knock the rest off tonight. Charging handle was simple drop in, as was the main spring for the bolt. When I took the 2 halves together, I had intended to keep these parts shown in the vid together and they "disassembled themselves" we will say slightly. They came apart more than I had hoped and i had more work to get the action back together. My hammer spring came off the strut and I was trying to get it back together with my young daughter and my fingernails, haha! I got it though, by the grace of god, that thing is tough! I do have a question though and hope you can help. My model 60 DOES have the "last shot hold open" (LSHO) Feature. I've owned this gun from New and it always holds the breech open when empty. After I did this disassembly and reassembled the gun(to the best of my knowledge, exactly as you did), the LSHO feature does not work now? Do you have any suggestions for me on what it could be? I know the gun is coming back apart and I'm sure I either forgot to rebook a spring, or maybe hooked up the wrong ones etc. I did check to see the LSHO spring is attached at both ends, maybe that can help narrow it down? I just wonder if you could say it would be the LSHO spring? Maybe a different spring I screwed up? Maybe the LSHO lever mechanism wasn't correctly installed? I did notice it seemed to be pretty tight, but dies function and raises a small lever by the bolt... just doesn't release anything. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm sure it was a problem I did, not you vid, lol. Your vid saved me! As long as the gun fires, I don't even mind so much to lose the LSHO... but it is equipped and is a handy feature id like to have back! Great vid and I hope for a reply. Unload the gun. Remove the action assembly and put paper clip in the hammer strut and carefully release the hammer with your thumb on it. When you have the action assembly out, does the LSHO lever move easily (as it should) by manipulating with your fingers? Does its spring return it easily? If not, some problems could be badly burred edges from the factory or rust or bent lever or not assembled correctly. Disconnect the LSHO spring from it and the lever should be able to shake free. If it does not, another teardown is necesary . I have seen the burred edges of the LSHO lever cause binding before and smoothing those edges is simply enough if you do a complete teardown. Check its straightened also after deburring and correct as needed.
@@arrowdodgerluvsmarlins1758 I was going nuts so I took the gun apart again last night. My mistake was that I did not push the spring that "controls" the LSHO(double ended spring, one side sits up near the feed ramp in a notch, the other side is pushed ALL the way under the "bar") all the way down, I had just slipped it halfway as there was a small notch and it looked correct. Once I pushed the spring all the way under, the LSHO lever started acting normal. I put the gun back together, LSHO every time as it was befote. Simple mistake by me. Couldnt see that spring was being pushed all the way down and under in the vid. After watching again with the action in front of me, I got her done! I appreciate it very much! All parts replaced now except the firing pin! Luckily I don't have to get back into the springs and such for that, though it all did start to make sense after messing with it a while and the vid of course.
,,,your are the bad ass of Marlin 60's. The one spring you did not work on was the one that popped out on me. It's the spring against the plate next to the hammer strut.
Just bought a new buffer off eBay. The seller's website had a note: 240 sold. Just that one seller! WTF! Wonder how man get smashed in a year's time. Nice design Marlin! Excellent Choice of materials.
Is this related to the last shot hold open feature? I used this vid as a reference and must have screwed up somewhere as my gun no longer holds the bolt open after the gun is empty. I appreciate any info, then atleast I could know to look into the lifter spring location...
I received my Model 99 for my 11th birthday (in 1981) and I’m having difficulty finding information on it. Your videos, being very thorough were key in getting it apart to replace the old feed throat (with broken ejector). With the feed throat replacement kit now in the mail I’m trying to sort out how the thing is going to eject spent casings. Do you (or anyone here) have any suggestions or do you have a Model 99 for a future video? I am currently at a loss short of essentially converting it internally into a Model 60.
arrowdodger luvs marlins Got the conversion kit installed, which included the new/updated ejector spring. It took a little time but I used 220 grit followed by 1000 grit sandpaper on a flat tabletop to shape the feed throat so I didn’t have to replace my bolt (thank you for that “how too” as well!). After getting the spring in the right spot, she’s operating almost like new! As you advised, I ordered a new recoil spring and figured while I’m at it, I’ll update the firing pin as well. Your videos gave me the confidence to do this myself and I couldn’t be happier about it. Many thanks again! Update: I meant to update back when I did it but I did take your advice again and replaced the recoil spring. My Model 99, which I found was manufactured in January 1966, is working like new and is reducing the population of driveway destroying, ground squirrels on the property. Thank you again!
Hey, I screwed up a bit and sort of sanded my receiver and bolt, thinking that the rough machining was causing gritty action on the bolt. Now it drags worse. I realized the raised machining was to keep the two pieces from having too much contact. Any ideas to fix my mistake?
My first thought is remove/buff/stone any burr from the ejector wire ends (both ends) where it could drag and gouge adjacent surfaces. Then smooth those adjacent surfaces. Wash the action and bolt with solvent. Put a drop of oil in that roller in the bolt.

Thankyou Mine is a 99m1, the other owner did some work, but the buffer was backwards, the lifter spring was messed with, the new one is way to long and the feed ramp doesnt have a groove for it So im not sure what parts are really for the old type. The lifter is the long old one. I saw you grove the one to fit the bolt. Mine has the 4 pins, some had. 3 i read. Thanks for the vids. I think marlin goofed up on the 60.
Is it possible to install the "last shot open" spring on a Glenfield Mod 60? I'm completely redoing my old Glenfield and was curious if it was possible to modify them being they're essentially identical to the Marlins. I will have everything torn down installing new Mcarbo springs so that would be the time to do any further modifications

Hello, I have a Marlin 60 from the early 80’s . The problem I have is the bolt after firing each round continues to stop in the bolt hold position until I release the bolt stop lever. What would be causing this malfunction. .? I have tried everything except the right thing to get it Firing Semi. Hope you have a suggestion? Thanks Dean
Great video! I have a Revelation Model 150 which is equivalent to a Marlin Model 49. It belongs to an old timer neighbor and he asked me to clean it for him. Everything went well until I started to reinstall the trigger assembly. The trigger spring came off and everything went to hell from there. Do you do any reassembly of this Model? I don't want to return it to my neighbor in a bag, but some of the things in your video are just not computing with me. I would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks.

The lifter/ejector spring was messed up. It wouldn't eject or load. I didnt lock the bolt open last time I cleaned it and knocked the ejector side off of the feed ramp all together. With the video I was able to determine the problem, fix it, and keep on shooting. Thanks again for the very detailed video!
My slide bumper broke, so I rolled a piece of gorilla duct tape real tight to the same size of the bumper and jammed in the spot it sits til the replacement part showed up. I think it actually works better that the vinyl bumper.

The side plates can be a little different. Depends on model year. You can easily update the feed throat, ejector and lifter between the old side plates. I have a video for that. You can make the Glenfield better than new that way.
well i may know why my gun doesn't cycle well. i am missing the last shot hold open lever and spring. trying to salvage an old 22 that nobody could get to run.
The is a very small hair-like spring in mine that came out when cleaning today and I need to find video of replacement of springs in older models as trigger will not pull until that small spring is replaced.
Where can i get a marlin 60 reciever? Their pretty much just cast, my brother was climbing up on some rocks and dropped my gun and the housing receiver cracked.
@@arrowdodgerluvsmarlins1758 its cracked from left to right, when i took it apart its in 2 pieces, please understand that it needs to be replaced, the housing is not a hard solid metal but cast metal made, i dunno if it could be welded, brazed or what but think it would be better replaced.
Check that the lever is straight, not burred and operates smoothly. I seen many bent and burred levers. Check the slot in the trigger guard and stock for clearance.

I was putting together my friends model 60 and watched some dudes video I here after fighting with th recoil spring so I then went pulled bolt back and put action in and it fell into place and it slammed home then I went to pull it back and felt a bit of resistance then I could hear something rattling around and the hammer spring fell out....... I swear I will never buy a model 60 like why did this happen? Ruger 10-22 don't do this kinda bull shit if someone could explain that be lightly helpful thank you and maybe I can put this thing back together correctly
I've owned 2 Marlins in my life time. A model 60 and a model 9(Camp carbine). They both had broken plastic buffers that I had to replace. The internals are built with too many itsy, bitsy , parts &.springs. You need 4 hands to fix these Marlins. WTF Marlin.........who designed these things?
The chamber may have a burr from the firing pin striking it. A good test is a new cartridge should slip in and out of the chamber easily. Use a jewellers rounded file gently to fix. I would assume the chamber is very clean.

I to love Marlins! have a 1975 model 60, 1983 model 60, 1986 model 336, and a 2015 model 795. (Love the older model 60s the best,18 round mags)
yup, I have one of the old ones with 18 round tube. But I think it's 17 plus one in the chamber.

I saw no differences at all, so if this happened after one of your reassemblies... what would be your first suspect youd look at? I appreciate any advice and will watch future vids if you post them. I'm constantly searching for things on my marlin rifle for sure! As I said, im subscribed for future vids!

Unload the gun. Remove the action assembly and put paper clip in the hammer strut and carefully release the hammer with your thumb on it. When you have the action assembly out, does the LSHO lever move easily (as it should) by manipulating with your fingers? Does its spring return it easily? If not, some problems could be badly burred edges from the factory or rust or bent lever or not assembled correctly. Disconnect the LSHO spring from it and the lever should be able to shake free. If it does not, another teardown is necesary . I have seen the burred edges of the LSHO lever cause binding before and smoothing those edges is simply enough if you do a complete teardown. Check its straightened also after deburring and correct as needed.
@@arrowdodgerluvsmarlins1758 I was going nuts so I took the gun apart again last night. My mistake was that I did not push the spring that "controls" the LSHO(double ended spring, one side sits up near the feed ramp in a notch, the other side is pushed ALL the way under the "bar") all the way down, I had just slipped it halfway as there was a small notch and it looked correct. Once I pushed the spring all the way under, the LSHO lever started acting normal. I put the gun back together, LSHO every time as it was befote. Simple mistake by me. Couldnt see that spring was being pushed all the way down and under in the vid. After watching again with the action in front of me, I got her done! I appreciate it very much! All parts replaced now except the firing pin! Luckily I don't have to get back into the springs and such for that, though it all did start to make sense after messing with it a while and the vid of course.
,,,your are the bad ass of Marlin 60's. The one spring you did not work on was the one that popped out on me. It's the spring against the plate next to the hammer strut.

Check to see if Lifter spring leg end is gouging the side plate.
I would also check for kinked recoil spring.

Is this related to the last shot hold open feature? I used this vid as a reference and must have screwed up somewhere as my gun no longer holds the bolt open after the gun is empty. I appreciate any info, then atleast I could know to look into the lifter spring location...

I received my Model 99 for my 11th birthday (in 1981) and I’m having difficulty finding information on it. Your videos, being very thorough were key in getting it apart to replace the old feed throat (with broken ejector). With the feed throat replacement kit now in the mail I’m trying to sort out how the thing is going to eject spent casings.
Do you (or anyone here) have any suggestions or do you have a Model 99 for a future video? I am currently at a loss short of essentially converting it internally into a Model 60.
Putting in the feed Throat kit of throat, spring and lifter is the best. A newer straight recoil spring is likely needed too
arrowdodger luvs marlins Got the conversion kit installed, which included the new/updated ejector spring. It took a little time but I used 220 grit followed by 1000 grit sandpaper on a flat tabletop to shape the feed throat so I didn’t have to replace my bolt (thank you for that “how too” as well!). After getting the spring in the right spot, she’s operating almost like new! As you advised, I ordered a new recoil spring and figured while I’m at it, I’ll update the firing pin as well. Your videos gave me the confidence to do this myself and I couldn’t be happier about it. Many thanks again!
Update: I meant to update back when I did it but I did take your advice again and replaced the recoil spring. My Model 99, which I found was manufactured in January 1966, is working like new and is reducing the population of driveway destroying, ground squirrels on the property. Thank you again!
Hey, I screwed up a bit and sort of sanded my receiver and bolt, thinking that the rough machining was causing gritty action on the bolt. Now it drags worse. I realized the raised machining was to keep the two pieces from having too much contact. Any ideas to fix my mistake?
My first thought is remove/buff/stone any burr from the ejector wire ends (both ends) where it could drag and gouge adjacent surfaces. Then smooth those adjacent surfaces. Wash the action and bolt with solvent. Put a drop of oil in that roller in the bolt.
Would the process be different if it was an older model without the last shot hold open?

Mine is a 99m1, the other owner did some work, but the buffer was backwards, the lifter spring was messed with, the new one is way to long and the feed ramp doesnt have a groove for it
So im not sure what parts are really for the old type. The lifter is the long old one. I saw you grove the one to fit the bolt. Mine has the 4 pins, some had. 3 i read. Thanks for the vids. I think marlin goofed up on the 60.

Is it possible to install the "last shot open" spring on a Glenfield Mod 60? I'm completely redoing my old Glenfield and was curious if it was possible to modify them being they're essentially identical to the Marlins. I will have everything torn down installing new Mcarbo springs so that would be the time to do any further modifications

Hello, I have a Marlin 60 from the early 80’s . The problem I have is the bolt after firing each round continues to stop in the bolt hold position until I release the bolt stop lever. What would be causing this malfunction. .? I have tried everything except the right thing to get it Firing Semi. Hope you have a suggestion? Thanks Dean

Great video! I have a Revelation Model 150 which is equivalent to a Marlin Model 49. It belongs to an old timer neighbor and he asked me to clean it for him. Everything went well until I started to reinstall the trigger assembly. The trigger spring came off and everything went to hell from there. Do you do any reassembly of this Model? I don't want to return it to my neighbor in a bag, but some of the things in your video are just not computing with me. I would appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks.

The lifter/ejector spring was messed up. It wouldn't eject or load.
I didnt lock the bolt open last time I cleaned it and knocked the ejector side off of the feed ramp all together.
With the video I was able to determine the problem, fix it, and keep on shooting.

My slide bumper broke, so I rolled a piece of gorilla duct tape real tight to the same size of the bumper and jammed in the spot it sits til the replacement part showed up. I think it actually works better that the vinyl bumper.
The most important tip for me is the hold up spring going clear to the bottom of the lever
Will need to come back, i was given a job that was apart and missiong all the e-clips

The side plates can be a little different. Depends on model year. You can easily update the feed throat, ejector and lifter between the old side plates. I have a video for that. You can make the Glenfield better than new that way.

The is a very small hair-like spring in mine that came out when cleaning today and I need to find video of replacement of springs in older models as trigger will not pull until that small spring is replaced.
That is the disconnector spring. Look up MCARBO. He shows how to insert it.

Where can i get a marlin 60 reciever? Their pretty much just cast, my brother was climbing up on some rocks and dropped my gun and the housing receiver cracked.

Seems like a fixable, non-critical crack from your description . Maybe drill it so it does not propagate. Fill and paint.
@@arrowdodgerluvsmarlins1758 its cracked from left to right, when i took it apart its in 2 pieces, please understand that it needs to be replaced, the housing is not a hard solid metal but cast metal made, i dunno if it could be welded, brazed or what but think it would be better replaced.

Check that the lever is straight, not burred and operates smoothly. I seen many bent and burred levers. Check the slot in the trigger guard and stock for clearance.

I was putting together my friends model 60 and watched some dudes video I here after fighting with th recoil spring so I then went pulled bolt back and put action in and it fell into place and it slammed home then I went to pull it back and felt a bit of resistance then I could hear something rattling around and the hammer spring fell out....... I swear I will never buy a model 60 like why did this happen? Ruger 10-22 don't do this kinda bull shit if someone could explain that be lightly helpful thank you and maybe I can put this thing back together correctly
I used to own a 1022 but I love the Marlin's accuracy and value. Learning the model 60 takes a little time.

Welp. I am completely missing a spring.
I've owned 2 Marlins in my life time. A model 60 and a model 9(Camp carbine). They both had broken plastic buffers that I had to replace. The internals are built with too many itsy, bitsy , parts &.springs.
You need 4 hands to fix these Marlins. WTF Marlin.........who designed these things?

The chamber may have a burr from the firing pin striking it. A good test is a new cartridge should slip in and out of the chamber easily. Use a jewellers rounded file gently to fix. I would assume the chamber is very clean.
