This is where I finally could not ignore how EVS treats others he views as competition. He had a chance to prove that he could be at the top of the indie comics mountain, but resting on the success of 1-2 high dollar crowdfunded comics with 214 variant covers is not the play. Eric’s comics are fine. Not the best, but not terrible. And Eric’s haters function with the idea that comics have to be a 10/10 or they’re a failure. I’ve been a Normie comic reader for a long time. I buy comics, I read comics, and that’s really all I want is for them to be fun and passable.
I thought his main problem with Eric was him not taking criticism and wanting to improve. I read Yaira and it was terrible and I could see where Evs was coming from. Yes Eric can get books out on time but the quality of the art and writing aren’t that good, Evs books might be late and the stories might be hit or miss but at least the artwork is phenomenal and you can see why it took so long. I personally haven’t seen much change with Eric’s writing and art.

Manga with monthly release offten has art just as good ditto with Manwha (which unlike manga tends to have color) I get its a graphics novel abd thus slightly longer but rainbow vrutenis closing in on 3 years there is no excuse for being that late particularly when your opening new crowd funders and streaming hours and hours a day. I bought 3 copies of ISOM 1 when it came out, but after that i stuck with just 1 of each book, whichever covers have the lowest print numbers). I dont like to read any of them when i only have 1 copy , so i was thrilled about the sale as i was able to get an extra copy of each to read. I dont get all the hate that Eric gets, its really coming across as mental illness at this point.

The problem with the $5 sale is that some of that stuff was supposed to be limited edition, when it's gone it's gone. So after people paid alot of money for the limited edition stuff and then it pops up for 5 bucks that's not a problem? There's a distinction between running a sale of back issues or surplus of products and limited editions popping back up when they should be gone. Maybe I'm missing something about this.
Ethan has done several discount sales during live streams, I know because i use to watch them and while i didnt took advantage of most of those i did get a nice cyberfrog hoodie on a discount I do think that making it 5 dollars was a mistake though, if i had bought isom at full price, (35 dollars if i recall correctly)and then i had seen it sold for 5 dollars i would be angry tbh.. i think a 15-20 dollars sell would have been alright
Actually, Eric is a Libertarian. While he may share some of the same conservative values, I.E. guns and religion, but he's never been devoted to either side.
I bought a Cyberfrog figure in its box from EVS at Garden State Con in June for $10. He was gracious and it seemed like a good deal. I gave it as a gift to my friend who collects action figures. Is that the same figure that is going for $25 on that campaign you're showing? (Not sure, just asking) Also, in case anyone is interested, the artist who does the covers for our comics is also the colorist for EVS' 'Fearsome'. I imagine I'll see that book at some point in the next 3 years or so.
It's basically a internet forum that catalogues various internet & pop culture personalities that make huge fools of themselves or what they dubbed "lulcows", it originally started as a fan site that followed the outlandish escapades of a certain Christine Weston Chandler a.k.a. Chris-chan but slowly over time grew to incorporate the chronicling of similar colorful characters.
In addition to the above, they also expose and harass various child predators, including doxxing (ie, publishing private information such as home address). I mention it because KF is wildly controversial in other communities up to and including asking ISPs to ban them, and it's all due to the above (the targeting of predators and the doxxing), not the lolcow trolling.
I still found the third season of Star Trek: Picard way better television that was not woke at all unlike that awful season of a so called show like Obi-Wan Kenobi that destroyed any goodwill to the Ewan McGregor version of Obi Wan.

Imagine if i was Midtown and order 1000 copy of isom for 20$ and resale them in their shop for 35$ then suddenly the book is worth only 5$. you would quickly realize Eric scammed his clients. + how can you say Eric is doing everyting right? his sale keeps going down. Isom sold 20k + copies and now he reach 10k sales. Dude as 15+ employees a warehouse + '' big names '' to pay like the soskas and Chuck Dixon. A company can't stay afloat for long barely making any profit at all.

5:18 What the heck, when i used to watch his streams he explicitly said they'll never be as cheap as the campain price they'll be marked up tons! For the record they're pretty solid except the torso, and the heather figure is downright horrendous for articulation just insanely stiff.
I think the comparison between Midtown comic sale and the Rippaverse sale is a false equivalence, so its not a particularly good gotcha. The Cyber frog figure one works better. Having said that there does seem to be a very polarised discussion surrounding Eric, some people are grifting by hating on him, others vitriolically attack anyone who criticise his books. Neither are particularly helpful to the indie sphere I'm sure there's an element of jealousy, and some irrational antagonism from people who used to be and should be on Eric's side (EVS did an 11 hour stream to promote ISOM) but equally, I'm not sure Eric always does himself any favours in his responses. The drama boosted interest in EVS for a while (I'm sure it didn't hurt Yaira's sales either) but people get bored of it sooner or later and can usually recognise when its bad faith rather than a genuine opinion, and the books will stand and fall on their quality. And whilst I have supported Eric, and want Rippaverse to succeed, I can't deny that some of EVS' criticisms of their comics are right. It is weird though, how people are turning on those who were visually at the fore front of the indie "comicsgate" movement (some of it clearly self inflicted), would Rippaverse exist without them I wonder? Personally I'm entirely non-partisan, but it does occur to me there's a weird irony that some who built a big chunk of their following from ripping into others work, now has people building a following by ripping into his.

This is where I finally could not ignore how EVS treats others he views as competition. He had a chance to prove that he could be at the top of the indie comics mountain, but resting on the success of 1-2 high dollar crowdfunded comics with 214 variant covers is not the play.
Eric’s comics are fine. Not the best, but not terrible. And Eric’s haters function with the idea that comics have to be a 10/10 or they’re a failure.

I thought his main problem with Eric was him not taking criticism and wanting to improve. I read Yaira and it was terrible and I could see where Evs was coming from. Yes Eric can get books out on time but the quality of the art and writing aren’t that good, Evs books might be late and the stories might be hit or miss but at least the artwork is phenomenal and you can see why it took so long. I personally haven’t seen much change with Eric’s writing and art.

I bought 3 copies of ISOM 1 when it came out, but after that i stuck with just 1 of each book, whichever covers have the lowest print numbers). I dont like to read any of them when i only have 1 copy , so i was thrilled about the sale as i was able to get an extra copy of each to read. I dont get all the hate that Eric gets, its really coming across as mental illness at this point.

I hate to say this but Ethan van sciver stole my money. I participated in his crowdfunding campaign for cyberfrog and I never got my book. Best I could tell, he was too busy doing 10 videos everyday complaining about Star wars everyday and trying to figure out if he wanted to point his camera at the tip of his pen, or his face.

The problem with the $5 sale is that some of that stuff was supposed to be limited edition, when it's gone it's gone. So after people paid alot of money for the limited edition stuff and then it pops up for 5 bucks that's not a problem? There's a distinction between running a sale of back issues or surplus of products and limited editions popping back up when they should be gone. Maybe I'm missing something about this.

I do think that making it 5 dollars was a mistake though, if i had bought isom at full price, (35 dollars if i recall correctly)and then i had seen it sold for 5 dollars i would be angry tbh.. i think a 15-20 dollars sell would have been alright

I bought a Cyberfrog figure in its box from EVS at Garden State Con in June for $10. He was gracious and it seemed like a good deal. I gave it as a gift to my friend who collects action figures. Is that the same figure that is going for $25 on that campaign you're showing? (Not sure, just asking) Also, in case anyone is interested, the artist who does the covers for our comics is also the colorist for EVS' 'Fearsome'. I imagine I'll see that book at some point in the next 3 years or so.

It's basically a internet forum that catalogues various internet & pop culture personalities that make huge fools of themselves or what they dubbed "lulcows", it originally started as a fan site that followed the outlandish escapades of a certain Christine Weston Chandler a.k.a. Chris-chan but slowly over time grew to incorporate the chronicling of similar colorful characters.
In addition to the above, they also expose and harass various child predators, including doxxing (ie, publishing private information such as home address).
I mention it because KF is wildly controversial in other communities up to and including asking ISPs to ban them, and it's all due to the above (the targeting of predators and the doxxing), not the lolcow trolling.

Eric, pretty much, gets a pass on the previous statement as he parlayed his personal popularity into making comics. I will point out that he doesn't, generally, push any kind of agenda in his comics though and his conflicts with other creators are entirely reactive from what I've seen.

The point of all that hate is eric is a publisher and not a retailer. Making a 86% sale devalue his books. Eric compare is sale to retailer website but he isnt a retailer. Imagine if i was Midtown and order 1000 copy of isom for 20$ and resale them in their shop for 35$ then suddenly the book is worth only 5$. you would quickly realize Eric scammed his clients. + how can you say Eric is doing everyting right? his sale keeps going down. Isom sold 20k + copies and now he reach 10k sales. Dude as 15+ employees a warehouse + '' big names '' to pay like the soskas and Chuck Dixon. Rn out of the 450k he made on horseman 90% of that probably goes right in his bills and employees pocket barely making a profit for the month. A company can't stay afloat for long barely making any profit at all.

5:18 What the heck, when i used to watch his streams he explicitly said they'll never be as cheap as the campain price they'll be marked up tons! That's partially why i bought mine at the time fomo i guess, lol. For the record they're pretty solid except the torso, and the heather figure is downright horrendous for articulation just insanely stiff.
I think the comparison between Midtown comic sale and the Rippaverse sale is a false equivalence, so its not a particularly good gotcha. The Cyber frog figure one works better. Having said that there does seem to be a very polarised discussion surrounding Eric, some people are grifting by hating on him, others vitriolically attack anyone who criticise his books. Neither are particularly helpful to the indie sphere
I'm sure there's an element of jealousy, and some irrational antagonism from people who used to be and should be on Eric's side (EVS did an 11 hour stream to promote ISOM) but equally, I'm not sure Eric always does himself any favours in his responses.
The drama boosted interest in EVS for a while (I'm sure it didn't hurt Yaira's sales either) but people get bored of it sooner or later and can usually recognise when its bad faith rather than a genuine opinion, and the books will stand and fall on their quality. And whilst I have supported Eric, and want Rippaverse to succeed, I can't deny that some of EVS' criticisms of their comics are right.
It is weird though, how people are turning on those who were visually at the fore front of the indie "comicsgate" movement (some of it clearly self inflicted), would Rippaverse exist without them I wonder?
Personally I'm entirely non-partisan, but it does occur to me there's a weird irony that some who built a big chunk of their following from ripping into others work, now has people building a following by ripping into his.
I still wished rippaverse comic had better writings and i disliked most of the stories and art style of his comics.

Ethan was garnering 'Buzz'. Then he hit DC and took over Impulse , from Humberto Rameros, i think, and he garnered even more 'Buzz'. Then he exploded onto the pages of X-Men and he was giving Frank Quietly nightmares. Then EVS hit Green Lantern and he became the top artist in comics to this day! Facts!
